Trace theory is a very important linguistic hypothesis within the framework of Generative Grammar. But whether the theory is correct, namely whether the assumed empty trace exists in syntactic representation, must be ...Trace theory is a very important linguistic hypothesis within the framework of Generative Grammar. But whether the theory is correct, namely whether the assumed empty trace exists in syntactic representation, must be verified by experiments concerning the neural mechanisms of language. On the basis of Generative Grammar, the current study uses event- related potentials (ERP) to examine the neural mechanism of trace in Chinese topicalized constructions. The results show that three types of waves (a sustained negativity, a negativity elicited by the verb and a P600 elicited at the sentence-final position) are observed in the processing of Chinese topicalized constructions. These neural electrophysiological indexes indicate that the sentence-initial topic does leave a trace in the position out of which it moves, i.e. the sentence-final position, suggesting that there is a syntactic dependency between the topic and its trace. Consequently, we draw the conclusion that trace is neurologically supported in Chinese topicalized constructions and trace theory isneurophysiologically viable. Meanwhile, the study also adds neural evidence to the view that Chinese topicalized constructions are structures derived from syntactic movement.展开更多
Purpose:The study examines the synergy and hysteresis in the evolution of funding and its supported literature,depicts their temporal correlation mechanism,which aids in improving trend predictions.Design/methodology/...Purpose:The study examines the synergy and hysteresis in the evolution of funding and its supported literature,depicts their temporal correlation mechanism,which aids in improving trend predictions.Design/methodology/approach:The study uses the LDA model to identify topics in funding texts and supported papers.A cosine similarity algorithm was employed to estimate the nexus between topics and construct the topic evolution time series.Similarly,the hysteresis effect in topic evolution is analyzed based on topic popularity and content,leading to insights into their temporal correlation mechanism.Findings:The study finds that fund and sponsored paper topics exhibit strong collaboration with a noticeable lag in evolution.The fund topics significantly influence sponsored paper topics after a two-year lag.Moreover,the lag effect is inversely proportional to the topic’s similarity.Research limitations:We use the LDA model to determine the hysteresis effect in topic evolution despite its limitations in handling long-tail words and domain-specific vocabulary.Furthermore,the timing of the emergence of the focal topic in funds is undermined,affecting the findings.Practical implications:These findings enhance the accuracy and scientific validity of trend prediction.Estimating and identifying patterns can help technology managers anticipate future research hotspots,supporting informed decision-making and technology management.Originality/value:This study introduces a research framework to quantitatively and visually analyze the hysteresis effect,revealing the correlation and evolutionary patterns between fund research topics and their funded papers.展开更多
BACKGROUND Eosinophilic esophagitis(EoE)is a chronic inflammatory disorder presenting as symptoms of dysphagia,esophageal food impaction,chest pain,and heartburn.After an initial trial of proton pump inhibitor(PPI)the...BACKGROUND Eosinophilic esophagitis(EoE)is a chronic inflammatory disorder presenting as symptoms of dysphagia,esophageal food impaction,chest pain,and heartburn.After an initial trial of proton pump inhibitor(PPI)therapy,swallowed topical corticosteroids(STC)are effective as induction therapy for EoE.However,out-come data for STC as a maintenance strategy is limited.RESULTS Three randomized control trials and one observational study were included,involving 303 patients(189 in the STC group,114 in the placebo-controlled group).Analysis showed that histologic recurrence was significantly lower with STC(OR:0.04,95%CI:0.01-0.28,P<0.00001,I^(2)=78%).Overall symptom recurrence was similar between groups(OR:0.23,95%CI:0.02-3.54,P=0.29,I^(2)=92%).On sensitivity analysis,symptom recurrence was significantly lower in the STC group(OR:0.05,95%CI:0.02-0.17,P=0.00001,I^(2)=39%).Odds of repeat dilation were significantly lower in the STC group(OR:0.14,95%CI:0.02-0.91,P=0.04,I^(2)=0%).Candida infection rates were similar between groups(OR:6.13,95%CI:0.85-44.26,P=0.07,I^(2)=24%).Proportion of concomitant PPI use was similar between groups(OR:1.64,95%CI:0.83-3.21,P=0.15,I^(2)=0%).CONCLUSION For patients who successfully achieved remission of EoE with STC induction therapy,maintaining treatment is effective in sustaining histologic remission,while newer regimens may be effective in preventing symptom recurrence compared to placebo.We found no significant difference for oropharyngeal/esophageal candidiasis with STC maintenance therapy.Future studies with longer follow-up periods are needed.展开更多
BACKGROUND Erythrodermic psoriasis(EP)is a rare and life-threatening form of psoriasis associated with significant morbidity and mortality.Systemic immunosuppre-ssive therapies are often required but may predispose to...BACKGROUND Erythrodermic psoriasis(EP)is a rare and life-threatening form of psoriasis associated with significant morbidity and mortality.Systemic immunosuppre-ssive therapies are often required but may predispose to opportunistic infections.Disseminated herpes simplex virus type-1(HSV-1)is an unusual complication in otherwise immunocompetent patients and has not been reported in association with ixekizumab therapy for EP.CASE SUMMARY We describe a 49-year-old man with longstanding severe plaque psoriasis,liver cirrhosis,and bipolar disorder who developed EP involving>90%of body surface area[Psoriasis Area and Severity Index(PASI)45].Following initial stabil-ization,he was admitted to the intensive care unit(ICU)with hemodynamic instability,leukocytosis with eosinophilia,and diffuse desquamation.Ixekizumab was initiated with high-dose topical clobetasol.During his ICU stay,he developed recurrent bacteremias and neurologic decline(Glasgow Coma Scale 7/15),fo-llowed by the appearance of widespread vesicles and hemorrhagic crusts.HSV-1 infection was confirmed by polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Immunosuppressive therapy was withheld,and intravenous acyclovir was started,leading to progre-ssive improvement.After ten days,ixekizumab was reintroduced with careful monitoring,resulting in marked clinical improvement(PASI 9.7 at six weeks).The patient remained stable on long-term follow-up with oral acyclovir prophylaxis.CONCLUSION This case highlights the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of managing EP in the setting of biologic therapy.Disseminated cutaneous HSV-1 should be considered in immunosuppressed patients presenting with new vesicular eruptions,and prompt PCR testing with early antiviral therapy is essential.A multidisciplinary approach is critical to balance immunosuppression for disease control with infection risk.展开更多

Background:Corneal scarring following bacterial keratitis,particularly from Pseudomonas infections,poses significant challenges in ophthalmic care.Current treatments often fall short in effectively reducing corneal ha...Background:Corneal scarring following bacterial keratitis,particularly from Pseudomonas infections,poses significant challenges in ophthalmic care.Current treatments often fall short in effectively reducing corneal haze and restoring vision.To our knowledge,this is the first report documenting the use of topical losartan,an angiotensin II receptor antagonist known to inhibit the transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)pathway,for treating corneal haze resulting from bacterial keratitis.Case Description:A 30-year-old male presented with a persistent corneal scar in his right eye,178 days post-Pseudomonas keratitis.Despite a prolonged course of topical corticosteroids,his best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA)stabilized at 20/40 with a hybrid contact lens over a 2-month period.Given the lack of improvement,we initiated treatment with topical losartan at a concentration of 0.8 mg/mL,administered six times daily.After 4 months of therapy,the patient’s BCVA improved to 20/25.Slit-lamp examination and corneal tomography revealed a significant reduction in corneal haze,indicating a positive response to the treatment.Conclusions:This case suggests that topical losartan may be a promising therapeutic option for reducing corneal opacity following bacterial keratitis by inhibiting the TGF-βpathway.However,further clinical studies are necessary to confirm its efficacy and safety in broader patient populations.展开更多
With the popularization of social media,public opi-nion information on emergencies spreads rapidly on the Internet,the impact of negative public opinions on an event has become more significant.Based on the organizati...With the popularization of social media,public opi-nion information on emergencies spreads rapidly on the Internet,the impact of negative public opinions on an event has become more significant.Based on the organizational form of public opinion information,the knowledge graph is used to construct the knowledge base of public opinion risk cases on the emer-gency network.The emotion recognition model of negative pub-lic opinion information based on the bi-directional long short-term memory(BiLSTM)network is studied in the model layer design,and a linear discriminant analysis(LDA)topic extraction method combined with association rules is proposed to extract and mine the semantics of negative public opinion topics to real-ize further in-depth analysis of information topics.Focusing on public health emergencies,knowledge acquisition and knowl-edge processing of public opinion information are conducted,and the experimental results show that the knowledge graph framework based on the construction can facilitate in-depth theme evolution analysis of public opinion events,thus demon-strating important research significance for reducing online pub-lic opinion risks.展开更多
Modules enable students to engage with content at their own pace,fostering autonomy and deeper understanding.The modular approach ensures clarity in presenting objectives,instructions,and concepts,while having illustr...Modules enable students to engage with content at their own pace,fostering autonomy and deeper understanding.The modular approach ensures clarity in presenting objectives,instructions,and concepts,while having illustrations,activities,and assessments could enhance comprehension and retention.This paper was a developmental study on STS module for college students using the ADDIE Model(Analysis,Design,Development,Implementation,and Evaluation).Sampled 673 first-year students from Northwest Samar State University participated in the study,with 299 participating in a test try-out and 374 in the students’performance evaluation.Three expert evaluators with backgrounds in science,English,and psychology,each with over four years of experience,assessed the modules to ensure alignment with the study’s constructivist learning goals and instructional integrity.The findings revealed that both students and experts had rated the instructional module positively,indicating its effectiveness in facilitating learning and completing lessons.Key aspects such as the style of illustrations and written expressions,the usefulness of learning activities,and the guidance provided by illustrations and captions were especially well-received.The module was praised for its clear objectives,understandable instructions,and engaging tasks like trivia and puzzles.Expert evaluations highlighted relevance,simplicity,and balanced emphasis on topics in the module content.Furthermore,students in test group demonstrated significant improvement in performance,with post-test scores notably higher than pre-test scores,confirming the module’s effectiveness in enhancing learning outcomes.Consequently,this paper provides an opportunity to integrate science learning with initiatives aimed at promoting environmental preservation and driving social change.展开更多

Topic modeling is a fundamental technique of content analysis in natural language processing,widely applied in domains such as social sciences and finance.In the era of digital communication,social scientists increasi...Topic modeling is a fundamental technique of content analysis in natural language processing,widely applied in domains such as social sciences and finance.In the era of digital communication,social scientists increasingly rely on large-scale social media data to explore public discourse,collective behavior,and emerging social concerns.However,traditional models like Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)and neural topic models like BERTopic struggle to capture deep semantic structures in short-text datasets,especially in complex non-English languages like Chinese.This paper presents Generative Language Model Topic(GLMTopic)a novel hybrid topic modeling framework leveraging the capabilities of large language models,designed to support social science research by uncovering coherent and interpretable themes from Chinese social media platforms.GLMTopic integrates Adaptive Community-enhanced Graph Embedding for advanced semantic representation,Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection-based(UMAP-based)dimensionality reduction,Hierarchical Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise(HDBSCAN)clustering,and large language model-powered(LLM-powered)representation tuning to generate more contextually relevant and interpretable topics.By reducing dependence on extensive text preprocessing and human expert intervention in post-analysis topic label annotation,GLMTopic facilitates a fully automated and user-friendly topic extraction process.Experimental evaluations on a social media dataset sourced from Weibo demonstrate that GLMTopic outperforms Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)and BERTopic in coherence score and usability with automated interpretation,providing a more scalable and semantically accurate solution for Chinese topic modeling.Future research will explore optimizing computational efficiency,integrating knowledge graphs and sentiment analysis for more complicated workflows,and extending the framework for real-time and multilingual topic modeling.展开更多

The current dialogue system can be sensitive to the emotions in the user's words,generating an empathetic response to help calm the user's emotions.But in some cases,eliciting empathetic responses may not adeq...The current dialogue system can be sensitive to the emotions in the user's words,generating an empathetic response to help calm the user's emotions.But in some cases,eliciting empathetic responses may not adequately mitigate the adverse effects that the current conversation topic is having on users.The dialogue system will continue the conversation with the user under this uncomfortable topic,which will lead to a worse chat situation or even an impasse.To solve this problem,a dialogue system that can change the topic autonomously according to the user's emotions is proposed in this paper.Specifically,the dialogue system first collects the emotional semantic information of the users and then detects it according to the emotion classification module.Once the detection results show that the user is in a bad mood,the topic change module selects a new topic from the context to shift to and generates a response.This not only helps to calm the user's mood but also move the conversation to a new area,steering the user away from the uncomfortable topic.The experimental results show that the proposed method incurs less cost in terms of content quality,but improves the emotional perception ability.Additionally,it endows the dialogue system with the ability to change the topic,and improves the user's dialogue experience.展开更多

文摘Background:Corneal scarring following bacterial keratitis,particularly from Pseudomonas infections,poses significant challenges in ophthalmic care.Current treatments often fall short in effectively reducing corneal haze and restoring vision.To our knowledge,this is the first report documenting the use of topical losartan,an angiotensin II receptor antagonist known to inhibit the transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β)pathway,for treating corneal haze resulting from bacterial keratitis.Case Description:A 30-year-old male presented with a persistent corneal scar in his right eye,178 days post-Pseudomonas keratitis.Despite a prolonged course of topical corticosteroids,his best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA)stabilized at 20/40 with a hybrid contact lens over a 2-month period.Given the lack of improvement,we initiated treatment with topical losartan at a concentration of 0.8 mg/mL,administered six times daily.After 4 months of therapy,the patient’s BCVA improved to 20/25.Slit-lamp examination and corneal tomography revealed a significant reduction in corneal haze,indicating a positive response to the treatment.Conclusions:This case suggests that topical losartan may be a promising therapeutic option for reducing corneal opacity following bacterial keratitis by inhibiting the TGF-βpathway.However,further clinical studies are necessary to confirm its efficacy and safety in broader patient populations.

文摘With the popularization of social media,public opi-nion information on emergencies spreads rapidly on the Internet,the impact of negative public opinions on an event has become more significant.Based on the organizational form of public opinion information,the knowledge graph is used to construct the knowledge base of public opinion risk cases on the emer-gency network.The emotion recognition model of negative pub-lic opinion information based on the bi-directional long short-term memory(BiLSTM)network is studied in the model layer design,and a linear discriminant analysis(LDA)topic extraction method combined with association rules is proposed to extract and mine the semantics of negative public opinion topics to real-ize further in-depth analysis of information topics.Focusing on public health emergencies,knowledge acquisition and knowl-edge processing of public opinion information are conducted,and the experimental results show that the knowledge graph framework based on the construction can facilitate in-depth theme evolution analysis of public opinion events,thus demon-strating important research significance for reducing online pub-lic opinion risks.
文摘Modules enable students to engage with content at their own pace,fostering autonomy and deeper understanding.The modular approach ensures clarity in presenting objectives,instructions,and concepts,while having illustrations,activities,and assessments could enhance comprehension and retention.This paper was a developmental study on STS module for college students using the ADDIE Model(Analysis,Design,Development,Implementation,and Evaluation).Sampled 673 first-year students from Northwest Samar State University participated in the study,with 299 participating in a test try-out and 374 in the students’performance evaluation.Three expert evaluators with backgrounds in science,English,and psychology,each with over four years of experience,assessed the modules to ensure alignment with the study’s constructivist learning goals and instructional integrity.The findings revealed that both students and experts had rated the instructional module positively,indicating its effectiveness in facilitating learning and completing lessons.Key aspects such as the style of illustrations and written expressions,the usefulness of learning activities,and the guidance provided by illustrations and captions were especially well-received.The module was praised for its clear objectives,understandable instructions,and engaging tasks like trivia and puzzles.Expert evaluations highlighted relevance,simplicity,and balanced emphasis on topics in the module content.Furthermore,students in test group demonstrated significant improvement in performance,with post-test scores notably higher than pre-test scores,confirming the module’s effectiveness in enhancing learning outcomes.Consequently,this paper provides an opportunity to integrate science learning with initiatives aimed at promoting environmental preservation and driving social change.

文摘Topic modeling is a fundamental technique of content analysis in natural language processing,widely applied in domains such as social sciences and finance.In the era of digital communication,social scientists increasingly rely on large-scale social media data to explore public discourse,collective behavior,and emerging social concerns.However,traditional models like Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)and neural topic models like BERTopic struggle to capture deep semantic structures in short-text datasets,especially in complex non-English languages like Chinese.This paper presents Generative Language Model Topic(GLMTopic)a novel hybrid topic modeling framework leveraging the capabilities of large language models,designed to support social science research by uncovering coherent and interpretable themes from Chinese social media platforms.GLMTopic integrates Adaptive Community-enhanced Graph Embedding for advanced semantic representation,Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection-based(UMAP-based)dimensionality reduction,Hierarchical Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise(HDBSCAN)clustering,and large language model-powered(LLM-powered)representation tuning to generate more contextually relevant and interpretable topics.By reducing dependence on extensive text preprocessing and human expert intervention in post-analysis topic label annotation,GLMTopic facilitates a fully automated and user-friendly topic extraction process.Experimental evaluations on a social media dataset sourced from Weibo demonstrate that GLMTopic outperforms Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA)and BERTopic in coherence score and usability with automated interpretation,providing a more scalable and semantically accurate solution for Chinese topic modeling.Future research will explore optimizing computational efficiency,integrating knowledge graphs and sentiment analysis for more complicated workflows,and extending the framework for real-time and multilingual topic modeling.

文摘The current dialogue system can be sensitive to the emotions in the user's words,generating an empathetic response to help calm the user's emotions.But in some cases,eliciting empathetic responses may not adequately mitigate the adverse effects that the current conversation topic is having on users.The dialogue system will continue the conversation with the user under this uncomfortable topic,which will lead to a worse chat situation or even an impasse.To solve this problem,a dialogue system that can change the topic autonomously according to the user's emotions is proposed in this paper.Specifically,the dialogue system first collects the emotional semantic information of the users and then detects it according to the emotion classification module.Once the detection results show that the user is in a bad mood,the topic change module selects a new topic from the context to shift to and generates a response.This not only helps to calm the user's mood but also move the conversation to a new area,steering the user away from the uncomfortable topic.The experimental results show that the proposed method incurs less cost in terms of content quality,but improves the emotional perception ability.Additionally,it endows the dialogue system with the ability to change the topic,and improves the user's dialogue experience.
