A complete method of synchronization technology of bistatic radar using global position system (GPS) is presented. The pulse per second signal (1PPS) is elaborately modified to increase the time synchronization precision and keep loop locking. A very high time synchronization precision is achieved. Using the modified 1PPS to discipline the local OCXO, the reference frequency signal achieves both high long term stability (LTS) and short term stability (STS) properties. An algorithm, named phase abrupt change CFAR is presented to restrain the 1PPS phase abrupt change and keep loop locking. The experimental results indicate that this time and frequency synchronization method is effective and the time synchronization precision of the synchronization system can be improved from ±100 ns to ±25 ns. In addition, the phase noise is improved to 20 dB. 展开更多

A system of jointly transferring time signals with a rate of 1 pulse per second (PPS) and frequency signals of 10 MHz via a dense wavelength division multiplex-based (DWDM) fiber is demonstrated in this paper. The noises of the fiber links are suppressed and compensated for by a controlled fiber delay line. A method of calibrating and characterizing time is described. The 1PPS is synchronized by feed-forward calibrating the fiber delays precisely. The system is experimen- tally examined via a 110 km spooled fiber in laboratory. The frequency stabilities of the user end with compensation are 1.8x 10-14 at 1 s and 2.0x 10-17 at 104 s average time. The calculated uncertainty of time synchronization is 13.1 ps, whereas the direct measurement of the uncertainty is 12 ps. Next, the frequency and 1PPS are transferred via a metropoli- tan area optical fiber network from one central site to two remote sites with distances of 14 km and 110 km. The frequency stabilities of 14 km link reach 3.0x 10-14 averaged in 1 s and 1.4x 10-17 in 104 s respectively; and the stabilities of 110 km link are 8.3 x 10-14 and 1.7 x 10-17, respectively. The accuracies of synchronization are estimated to be 12.3 ps for the 14 km link and 13.1 ps for the 110 km link, respectively. 展开更多

We propose a physical model of estimating noise and asymmetry brought by high isolation Bi-directional erbiumdoped fiber amplifiers(Bi-EDFAs),no spontaneous lasing even with high gain,in longdistance fiber-optic time and frequency(T/F)synchronization system.It is found that the Rayleigh scattering noise can be suppressed due to the high isolation design,but the amplified spontaneous emission(ASE)noise generated by the high isolation Bi-EDFA and the bidirectional asymmetry of the transmission link caused by the high isolation Bi-EDFA will deteriorate the stability of the system.The calculated results show that under the influence of ASE noise,the frequency instability of a 1200 km system composed of 15 high isolation Bi-EDFAs is 1.773×10^(-13)/1 s.And the instability caused by asymmetry is 2.6064×10^(-16)/30000–35000 s if the total asymmetric length of the bidirectional link length is 30 m.The intensity noises originating from the laser and detector,the transfer delay fluctuations caused by the variation in ambient temperature and the jitter in laser output wavelength are also studied.The experiment composed of three high isolation Bi-EDFAs is done to confirm the theoretical analysis.In summary,the paper shows that the short-term instability of the T/F synchronization system composed of high isolation Bi-EDFAs is limited by the accumulation of ASE noise of amplifiers and the laser frequency drift,while the long-term instability is limited by the periodic variation in ambient temperature and the asymmetry of the amplifiers.The research results are useful for pointing out the direction to improve the stability of the fiber-optic T/F synchronization system. 展开更多

Bistatic/multistatic radar has great potential advantages over its monostatic counterpart. However, the separation of a transmitter and a receiver leads to difficulties in locating the target position accurately and guaranteeing space-timefrequency synchronization of the transmitter and the receiver.The error model of space-time-frequency synchronization in a motion platform of bistatic/multistatic radar is studied. The relationship between the space synchronization error and the transmitter platform position, receiver platform position, moving state, and beam pointing error, is analyzed. The effect of space synchronization error on target echo power is studied. The target scattering characteristics are restructured by many separate scattering centers of the target in high frequency regions. Based on the scattering centers model of the radar target, this radar target echo model and the simulation method are discussed. The algorithm of bistatic/multistatic radar target echo accurately reflects the scattering characteristics of the radar target, pulse modulation speciality of radar transmitting signals, and spacetime-frequency synchronization error characteristics between the transmitter station and the receiver station. The simulation of bistatic radar is completed in computer, and the results of the simulation validate the feasibility of the method. 展开更多

Propelled by the rise of artificial intelligence,cloud services,and data center applications,next-generation,low-power,local-oscillator-less,digital signal processing(DSP)-free,and short-reach coherent optical communication has evolved into an increasingly prominent area of research in recent years.Here,we demonstrate DSP-free coherent optical transmission by analog signal processing in frequency synchronous optical network(FSON)architecture,which supports polarization multiplexing and higher-order modulation formats.The FSON architecture that allows the numerous laser sources of optical transceivers within a data center can be quasi-synchronized by means of a tree-distributed homology architecture.In conjunction with our proposed pilot-tone assisted Costas loop for an analog coherent receiver,we achieve a record dual-polarization 224-Gb/s 16-QAM 5-km mismatch transmission with reset-free carrier phase recovery in the optical domain.Our proposed DSP-free analog coherent detection system based on the FSON makes it a promising solution for next-generation,low-power,and high-capacity coherent data center interconnects. 展开更多

The rise of time-sensitive applications with broad geographical scope drives the development of time-sensitive networking(TSN)from intra-domain to inter-domain to ensure overall end-to-end connectivity requirements in heterogeneous deployments.When multiple TSN networks interconnect over non-TSN networks,all devices in the network need to be syn-chronized by sharing a uniform time reference.How-ever,most non-TSN networks are best-effort.Path delay asymmetry and random noise accumulation can introduce unpredictable time errors during end-to-end time synchronization.These factors can degrade syn-chronization performance.Therefore,cross-domain time synchronization becomes a challenging issue for multiple TSN networks interconnected by non-TSN networks.This paper presents a cross-domain time synchronization scheme that follows the software-defined TSN(SD-TSN)paradigm.It utilizes a com-bined control plane constructed by a coordinate con-troller and a domain controller for centralized control and management of cross-domain time synchroniza-tion.The general operation flow of the cross-domain time synchronization process is designed.The mecha-nism of cross-domain time synchronization is revealed by introducing a synchronization model and an error compensation method.A TSN cross-domain proto-type testbed is constructed for verification.Results show that the scheme can achieve end-to-end high-precision time synchronization with accuracy and sta-bility. 展开更多

This paper investigates modified fixed-time synchronization(FxTS)of complex networks(CNs)with time-varying delays based on continuous and discontinuous controllers.First,for the sake of making the settling time(ST)of FxTS is independent of the initial values and parameters of the CNs,a modified fixed-time(FxT)stability theorem is proposed,where the ST is determined by an arbitrary positive number given in advance.Then,continuous controller and discontinuous controller are designed to realize the modified FxTS target of CNs.In addition,based on the designed controllers,CNs can achieve synchronization at any given time,or even earlier.And control strategies effectively solve the problem of ST related to the parameters of CNs.Finally,an appropriate simulation example is conducted to examine the effectiveness of the designed control strategies. 展开更多

This study proposes a novel time-synchronization protocol inspired by stochastic gradient algorithms.The clock model of each network node in this synchronizer is configured as a generic adaptive filter where different stochastic gradient algorithms can be adopted for adaptive clock frequency adjustments.The study analyzes the pairwise synchronization behavior of the protocol and proves the generalized convergence of the synchronization error and clock frequency.A novel closed-form expression is also derived for a generalized asymptotic error variance steady state.Steady and convergence analyses are then presented for the synchronization,with frequency adaptations done using least mean square(LMS),the Newton search,the gradient descent(GraDes),the normalized LMS(N-LMS),and the Sign-Data LMS algorithms.Results obtained from real-time experiments showed a better performance of our protocols as compared to the Average Proportional-Integral Synchronization Protocol(AvgPISync)regarding the impact of quantization error on synchronization accuracy,precision,and convergence time.This generalized approach to time synchronization allows flexibility in selecting a suitable protocol for different wireless sensor network applications. 展开更多

Efficient One-Way Time Synchronization for VANET withMLE-Based Multi-Stage Update

As vehicular networks become increasingly pervasive,enhancing connectivity and reliability has emerged as a critical objective.Among the enabling technologies for advanced wireless communication,particularly those targeting low latency and high reliability,time synchronization is critical,especially in vehicular networks.However,due to the inherent mobility of vehicular environments,consistently exchanging synchronization packets with a fixed base station or access point is challenging.This issue is further exacerbated in signal shadowed areas such as urban canyons,tunnels,or large-scale indoor hallswhere other technologies,such as global navigation satellite system(GNSS),are unavailable.One-way synchronization techniques offer a feasible approach under such transient connectivity conditions.One-way schemes still suffer from long convergence times to reach the required synchronization accuracy in these circumstances.In this paper,we propose a WLAN-based multi-stage clock synchronization scheme(WMC)tailored for vehicular networks.The proposed method comprises an initial hard update stage to rapidly achieve synchronization,followed by a high-precision stable stage based on Maximum Likelihood Estimation(MLE).By implementing the scheme directly at the network driver,we address key limitations of hard update mechanisms.Our approach significantly reduces the initial period to collect high-quality samples and offset estimation time to reach sub-50μs accuracy,and subsequently transitions to a refined MLE-based synchronization stage,achieving stable accuracy at approximately 30μs.The windowed moving average stabilized(reaching 90%of the baseline)in approximately 35 s,which corresponds to just 5.1%of the baseline time accuracy.Finally,the impact of synchronization performance on the localization model was validated using the Simulation of Urban Mobility(SUMO).The results demonstrate that more accurate conditions for position estimation can be supported,with an improvement about 38.5%in the mean error. 展开更多

Stratigraphic correlations are essential for the fine-scale characterization of reservoirs.However,conventional data-driven methods that rely solely on log data struggle to construct isochronous stratigraphic frameworks for complex sedimentary environments and multi-source geological settings.In response,this study proposed an intelligent,automatic,log-seismic integrated stratigraphic correlation method that incorporates wavelet frequency-division transform(WFT)and dynamic time warping(DTW)(also referred to as the WFT-DTW method).This approach integrates seismic data as constraints into stratigraphic correlations,enabling accurate tracking of the seismic marker horizons through WFT.Under the constraints of framework construction,a DTW algorithm was introduced to correlate sublayer boundaries automatically.The effectiveness of the proposed method was verified through a stratigraphic correlation experiment on the SA0 Formation of the Xingshugang block in the Lasaxing oilfield,the Songliao Basin,China.In this block,the target layer exhibits sublayer thicknesses ranging from 5 m to 8 m,an average sandstone thickness of 2.1 m,and pronounced heterogeneity.The verification using 1760 layers in 160 post-test wells indicates that the WFT-DTW method intelligently compared sublayers in zones with underdeveloped faults and distinct marker horizons.As a result,the posterior correlation of 1682 layers was performed,with a coincidence rate of up to 95.6%.The proposed method can complement manual correlation efforts while also providing valuable technical support for the lithologic and sand body characterization of reservoirs. 展开更多

For multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, a joint timing synchronization and frequency offset acquisition algorithm based on fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) is proposed. The linear frequency modulation signals superimposed on the data signals are used as the training signals. By performing FRFT on the received signals and searching the peak value of the FRFT results, the receiver can realize timing synchronization and frequency offset acquisition simultaneously. Compared with the existing methods, the proposed algorithm can provide better timing synchronization performance and larger frequency offset acquisition range even under multi-path channels with low signal to noise ratio. FrFT Based Joint Time-Frequency Signal Processing for Coherent Optical Fiber Communications

The linear transmission impairments,such as the timing offset(TO),frequency offset(FO),and chromatic dispersion(CD),are major factors of signal degradations in coherent optical fiber communication systems.The estimation and compensation of such impairments play significant roles in the receiver side digital signal processing(DSP)unit.In this paper,we propose to combat the linear impairments systematically(including TO,FO and CD)with a joint timefrequency signal processing by taking the advantage of fractional Fourier transform(FrFT).In view of geometrical analysis,TO/FO induces a shift in time/frequency coordinate and the CD leads to the rotation in the fractional domain.Both mathematical derivations and geometrical interpretations have been established to unveil the relationships between impairments and linear frequency modulated(LFM)training symbols(TSs).By considering a typical coherent optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing(COOFDM)transmission system,three kinds of linear impairments have been jointly estimated by simple geometric calculations using appropriately designed TS based on FrFTs.Simulation and experimental results confirmed the feasibility of time-frequency techniques with better accuracy,less complexity,and improved spectral efficiency. 展开更多

Temporal optics,which enables lossless manipulation of ultrafast pulses,offers a new dimension for the regulation of quantum optical fields.In this paper,we established a temporal Fourier transform(TF)system based on a four-wave mixing(FWM)time lens and constructed a full quantum theoretical model for the resulting temporal SU(1,1)interferometer.This interferometer has high temporal resolution,can impose interference in both time and frequency domains,and is sensitive to the phase derivative.By introducing linear time-varying phase modulation,we achieved sub-picosecond precision in temporal autocorrelation measurements and generatedan optical frequency comb with a fixed interval based on a feedback iteration mechanism.Theoretical analysis revealsthe crucial regulatory role of time-frequency coupling in quantum interference,providing novel solutions for ultrafast quantum imaging,temporal mode encoding,and the generation of optical frequency quantization. 展开更多

Central nerve signal evoked by thoughts can be directly used to control a robot or prosthetic devices without the involvement of the peripheral nerve and muscles.This is a new strategy of human-computer interaction.A method of electroencephalogram(EEG) phase synchronization combined with band energy was proposed to construct a feature vector for pattern recognition of brain-computer interaction based on EEG induced by motor imagery in this paper,rhythm and beta rhythm were first extracted from EEG by band pass filter and then the frequency band energy was calculated by the sliding time window;the instantaneous phase values were obtained using Hilbert transform and then the phase synchronization feature was calculated by the phase locking value(PLV) and the best time interval for extracting the phase synchronization feature was searched by the distribution of the PLV value in the time domain.Finally,discrimination of motor imagery patterns was performed by the support vector machine(SVM).The results showed that the phase synchronization feature more effective in4s-7s and the correct classification rate was 91.4%.Compared with the results achieved by a single EEG feature related to motor imagery,the correct classification rate was improved by 3.5 and4.3 percentage points by combining phase synchronization with band energy.These indicate that the proposed method is effective and it is expected that the study provides a way to improve the performance of the online real-time brain-computer interaction control system based on EEG related to motor imagery. 展开更多

The frame offset owing to incorrect start point position of the fast Fourier transform (FFT) window, and the carrier frequency offset (CFO) due to Doppler frequency shift or the frequency mismatch between the transmitter and receiver oscil ators, can bring severe inter-symbol interference (ISI) and inter-carrier interference (ICI) for the OFDM system. Relying on the relatively good correlation charac-teristic of the pseudo-noise (PN) sequence, a joint frame offset and normalized CFO estimation algorithm based on PN preamble in time domain is developed to realize the frame and frequency synchronization in the OFDM system. By comparison, the perfor-mances of the traditional algorithm and the improved algorithm are simulated under different conditions. The results indicate that the PN preamble based algorithm both in frame offset estimation and CFO estimation is more accurate, resource-saving and robust even under poor channel condition, such as low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and large normalized CFO. 展开更多

Deep Auto-Encoder Based Intelligent and Secure Time Synchronization Protocol(iSTSP)for Security-Critical Time-Sensitive WSNs

Accurate time synchronization is fundamental to the correct and efficient operation of Wireless Sensor Networks(WSNs),especially in security-critical,time-sensitive applications.However,most existing protocols degrade substantially under malicious interference.We introduce iSTSP,an Intelligent and Secure Time Synchronization Protocol that implements a four-stage defense pipeline to ensure robust,precise synchronization even in hostile environments:(1)trust preprocessing that filters node participation using behavioral trust scoring;(2)anomaly isolation employing a lightweight autoencoder to detect and excise malicious nodes in real time;(3)reliability-weighted consensus that prioritizes high-trust nodes during time aggregation;and(4)convergence-optimized synchronization that dynamically adjusts parameters using theoretical stability bounds.We provide rigorous convergence analysis including a closed-form expression for convergence time,and validate the protocol through both simulations and realworld experiments on a controlled 16-node testbed.Under Sybil attacks with five malicious nodes within this testbed,iSTSP maintains synchronization error increases under 12%and achieves a rapid convergence.Compared to state-ofthe-art protocols like TPSN,SE-FTSP,and MMAR-CTS,iSTSP offers 60%faster detection,broader threat coverage,and more than 7 times lower synchronization error,with a modest 9.3%energy overhead over 8 h.We argue this is an acceptable trade-off for mission-critical deployments requiring guaranteed security.These findings demonstrate iSTSP’s potential as a reliable solution for secure WSN synchronization and motivate future work on large-scale IoT deployments and integration with energy-efficient communication protocols. 展开更多

The dynamics of such a system are obtained using the describing function method, and the necessary conditions for phase synchronization are also achieved. Finding the vicinity of the synchronization frequency is the major advantage of the describing function method over other traditional methods. The equations obtained based on this method justify the phenomenon of the synchronization of coupled oscillators on a frequency either higher, between, or lower than the highest, in between, or lowest natural frequency of the aggregate oscillators. Several numerical examples simulate the different cases versus the various synchronization frequency delays. 展开更多

Synchronization of networked phase oscillators depends essentially on the correlation between the topological structure of the graph and the dynamical property of the elements. We propose the concept of 'reduced frequency', a measure which can quantify natural frequencies of each pair of oscillators. Then we introduce an evolving network whose linking rules are controlled by its own dynamical property. The simulation results indicate that when the linking probability positively correlates with the reduced frequency, the network undergoes a first-order phase transition. Meanwhile, we discuss the circumstance under which an explosive synchronization can be ignited. The numerical results show that the peculiar butterfly shape correlation between frequencies and degrees of the nodes contributes to an explosive synchronization transition. 展开更多

As modern electromagnetic environments are more and more complex,the anti-interference performance of the synchronization acquisition is becoming vital in wireless communications.With the rapid development of the digital signal processing technologies,some synchronization acquisition algorithms for hybrid direct-sequence(DS)/frequency hopping(FH)spread spectrum communications have been proposed.However,these algorithms do not focus on the analysis and the design of the synchronization acquisition under typical interferences.In this paper,a synchronization acquisition algorithm based on the frequency hopping pulses combining(FHPC)is proposed.Specifically,the proposed algorithm is composed of two modules:an adaptive interference suppression(IS)module and an adaptive combining decision module.The adaptive IS module mitigates the effect of the interfered samples in the time-domain or the frequencydomain,and the adaptive combining decision module can utilize each frequency hopping pulse to construct an anti-interference decision metric and generate an adaptive acquisition decision threshold to complete the acquisition.Theory and simulation demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly enhances the antiinterference and anti-noise performances of the synchronization acquisition for hybrid DS/FH communications. 展开更多
