A three-dimensional path-planning approach has been developed to coordinate multiple fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)while avoiding collisions. The hierarchical path-planning architecture that divides the path-planning process into two layers is proposed by designing the velocityobstacle strategy for satisfying timeliness and effectiveness. The upper-level layer focuses on creating an efficient Dubins initial path considering the dynamic constraints of the fixed wing.Subsequently, the lower-level layer detects potential collisions and adjusts its flight paths to avoid collisions by using the threedimensional velocity obstacle method, which describes the maneuvering space of collision avoidance as the intersection space of half space. To further handle the dynamic and collisionavoidance constraints,a priority mechanism is designed to ensure that the adjusted path is still feasible for fixed-wing UAVs.Simulation experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Stress raisers such as holes are inevitable in structures at which stress concentration occurs and the static as well as fatigue strength of the structures can be significantly weakened. Therefore,to accurately evaluate the stress concentration factor and stress fields at holes is of essential importance for structure design and service life prediction.Although stress and strain concentration and fields at holes in finite thickness plates strongly change with and along the thickness, manuals of stress concentration for engineering design are mainly based on twodimensional theory and no explicit formula is available even for circular holes in finite thickness plates. Here we obtain for the first time a complete set of explicit formulae for stress and strain concentration factors and the out-of-plane constraint factor at circular as well as elliptical holes in finite thickness plates by integrating comprehensive three-dimensional finite element analyses and available theoretical solutions. The three-dimensional stress distributions ahead of holes can also be predicted by the obtained formulae. With their accuracy and the corresponding applicable range being analyzed and outlined in detail, the formulae can serve as an important fundamental solution for three-dimensional engineering structure design and guideline for developing threedimensional analytical methods. 展开更多

This study investigates the mechanical response of an underground cavern subjected to cyclic high gas pressure, aiming to establish a theoretical foundation for the design of lined rock caverns(LRCs)for energy storage with high internal pressure,e.g.compressed air energy storage(CAES)underground caverns or hydrogen storage caverns.Initially, the stress paths of the surrounding rock during the excavation, pressurization, and depressurization processes are delineated.Analytical expressions for the stress and deformation of the surrounding rock are derived based on the MohreCoulomb criterion. These expressions are then employed to evaluate the displacement of cavern walls under varying qualities of surrounding rock, the contact pressure between the steel lining and the surrounding rock subject to different gas storage pressures, the load-bearing ratio of the surrounding rock, and the impact of lining thickness on the critical gas pressure.Furthermore, the deformation paths of the surrounding rock are evaluated, along with the effects of tunnel depth and diameter on residual deformation of the surrounding rock, and the critical minimum gas pressure at which the surrounding rock and the lining do not detach. The results indicate that residual deformation of the surrounding rock occurs after depressurization under higher internal pressure for higher-quality rock masses, leading to detachment between the surrounding rock and the steel lining. The findings indicate that thicker linings correspond to higher critical minimum gas pressures. However, for lower-quality surrounding rock, thicker linings correspond to lower critical minimum gas pressures. These findings will provide invaluable insights for the design of LRCs for underground energy storage caverns. 展开更多

Using the twin shear stress yield criterion, the surface integral of the co-line vectors, and the integration depending on upper limit, Kobayashi's three-dimensional velocity field of rolling was analyzed and an analytical expression of rolling torque and single force was obtained. Through redoing the same experiment of rolling pure lead as Sims, the calculated results by the above expression were compared with those of Kobayashi and Sims formulae. The results show that the twin shear stress yield criterion is available for rolling analysis and the calculated results by the new formula are a little higher than those by Kobayashi and Sims ones if the reduction ratio is less than 30%. 展开更多

In the repair of peripheral nerve injury using autologous or synthetic nerve grafting, the mag- nitude of tensile forces at the anastomosis affects its response to physiological stress and the ultimate success of the treatment. One-dimensional stretching is commonly used to measure changes in tensile stress and strain; however, the accuracy of this simple method is limited. There- fore, in the present study, we established three-dimensional finite element models of sciatic nerve defects repaired by autologous nerve grafts. Using PRO E 5.0 finite element simulation software, we calculated the maximum stress and displacement of an anastomosis under a 5 N load in 10-, 20-, 30-, 40-mm long autologous nerve grafts. We found that maximum displacement increased with graft length, consistent with specimen force. These findings indicate that three-dimensional finite element simulation is a feasible method for analyzing stress and displacement at the anas- tomosis after autologous nerve grafting. 展开更多

The objective of the present paper is to develop nonlinear finite element method models for predicting the weld-induced initial deflection and residual stress of plating in steel stiffened-plate structures. For this purpose, three-dimensional thermo-elastic-plastic finite element method computations are performed with varying plate thickness and weld bead length (leg length) in welded plate panels, the latter being associated with weld heat input. The finite element models are verified by a comparison with experimental database which was obtained by the authors in separate studies with full scale measurements. It is concluded that the nonlinear finite element method models developed in the present paper are very accurate in terms of predicting the weld-induced initial imperfections of steel stiffened plate structures. Details of the numerical computations together with test database are documented. 展开更多

To study the energy evolution and failure characteristics of saturated sandstone under unloading conditions, rock unloading tests under different stress paths were conducted. The energy evolution mechanism of the unloading failure of saturated sandstone was systematically explored from the perspectives of the stress path, the initial confining pressure, and the energy conversion rate. The results show that(1)before the peak stress, the elastic energy increases with an increase in deviatoric stress, while the dissipated energy slowly increases first. After the peak stress, the elastic energy decreases with the decrease of deviatoric stress, and the dissipated energy suddenly increases. The energy release intensity during rock failure is positively correlated with the axial stress.(2)When the initial confining pressure is below a certain threshold, the stress path is the main factor influencing the total energy difference. When the axial stress remains constant and the confining pressure is unloading, the total energy is more sensitive to changes in the confining pressure. When the axial stress remains constant, the compressive deformation ability of the rock cannot be significantly improved by the increase in the initial confining pressure. The initial confining pressure is positively correlated with the rock's energy storage limit.(3)The initial confining pressure increases the energy conversion rate of the rock;the initial confining pressure is positively correlated with the energy conversion rate;and the energy conversion rate has a high confining pressure effect. The increase in the axial stress has a much greater impact on the elastic energy than the confining pressure.(4)When the deviatoric stress is small, the confining pressure mainly plays a protective role.Compared with the case of triaxial compression paths, the rock damage is more severe under unloading paths, and compared with the case of constant axial stress, the rock damage is more severe under increasing axial stress. 展开更多

As the traditional forging process has many problems such as low efficiency, high consumption of material and energy, large cylindrical shell rolling is introduced. Large cylindrical shell rolling is a typical rotary forming technology, and the upper and lower rolls have different radii and speeds. To quickly predict the three-dimensional stresses and eliminate fishtail defect, an improved strip layer method is developed, in which the asymmetry of the upper and lower rolls, non-uniform deformation and stress, as well as the asymmetrical spread on the end surface are considered. The deformation zone is divided into a certain number of layers and strips along the thickness and width, respectively. The transverse displacement model is constructed by polynomial function, in order to increase the computation speed greatly. From the metal plastic mechanics principle, the three-dimensional stress models are established. The genetic algorithm is used for optimization calculation in an industrial experiment example. The results show that the rolling pressure, the normal stresses, the upper and lower friction stress distributions are not similar with those of a general plate rolling. There are two relative maximum values in rolling pressure distribution. The upper and lower longitudinal friction stresses change direction nearby the upper and lower neutral points, respectively. The fishtail profile of spread on the end surface is predicted satisfactorily. The reduction could be helpful to eliminate fishtail defect. The large cylindrical shell rolling example illustrates the calculation results acquired rapidly are good agreements with the finite element simulation and experimental values of previous study. A highly effective and reliable three-dimensional simulation method is proposed for large cylindrical shell rolling and other asymmetrical rolling. 展开更多

The theoretical solutions are obtained for the three-dimensional(3-D)stress field in an infinite isotropic elastic plate with a through-the-thickness circular hole subjected to shear load at far field by using Kane and Mindlin′s assumption based on the stress function method.Based on the present solutions, the characteristics of 3-D stress field are analyzed and the emphasis is placed on the effects of the plate thickness and Poisson′s ratio on the deviation of the present 3-D in-plane stress from the related plane stress solutions, the stress concentration and the out-of-plane constraint. The present solutions show that the stress concentration factor reaches its peak value of about 8.9% which is higher than that of the plane stress solutions. As expected, the out-of-plane stress constraint factor can reach 1on the surface of the hole when the plate is a very thick one. 展开更多

By making use of the direct integration method,an exact analysis of the general three-dimensional thermoelasticity problem is performed for the case of a transversely isotropic homogeneous half-space subject to local thermal and force loadings. The material plane of isotropy is assumed to be parallel to the limiting surface of the halfspace.By reducing the original thermoelasticity equations to the governing ones for individual stress-tensor components, the effect of material anisotropy in the stress field is analyzed with regard to the feasibility requirement,i.e.,the finiteness of the stress field at a distance from the disturbed area.As a result, the solution is constructed in the form of explicit analytical dependencies on the force and thermal loadings for various kinds of transversely isotropic materials and agrees with the basic principles of the continua mechanics. The solution can be efficiently used as a benchmark one for the direct computation of temperature and thermal stresses in transversely isotropic semi-infinite domains,as well as for the verification of solutions constructed by different means. 展开更多

A numerical method was used in order to establish the constitutive relationship of sands under different stress paths, Firstly, based on the numerical method modeling the constitutive law of sands, the elastoplastic constitutive relationship of sand was established for three paths: the constant proportion of principle stress path, the conventional triaxial compression (CTC) path, and the p=constant (TC) path. The yield lines of plastic volumetric strain and plastic generalized shear strain were given. Through visualization, the three dimensional surface of the stress-strain relationship in the whole stress field (p, q) obtained under the three paths was plotted. Also, by comparing the stress-strain surfaces and yield locus of the three stress paths, the differences were found to be obvious, which demonstrates that the influence of the stress paths on constitutive law was not neglected. The numerical modeling method overcame the difficulty of finding an analytical expression for plastic potential. The results simulated the experimental data with an accuracy of 90% on average, so the constitutive model established in this paper provides an effective constitutive equation for this kind of engineering, reflecting the effect of practical stress paths that occur in sands. 展开更多

Coarse aggregates are the major infrastructure materials of concrete-faced rock-fill dams and are consolidated to bear upper and lateral loads. With the increase of dam height, high confining pressure and complex stress states complicate the shear behavfor of coarse aggregates, and thus impede the high dam's proper construction, operation and maintenance. An experimental program was conducted to study the shear behavior of dam coarse aggregates using a large-scale triaxial shear apparatus.Through triaxial shear tests, the strain-stress behaviors of aggregates were observed under constant confining pressures:300 kPa,600 kPa 900 kPa and 1200 kPa.Shear strengths and aggregate breakage characteristics associated with high pressure shear processes are discussed.Stress path tests were conducted to observe and analyze coarse aggregate response under complex stress states. In triaxial shear tests,it was found that peak deviator stresses increase along with confining pressures, whereas the peak principal stress ratios decrease as confining pressures increase With increasing confining pressures, the dilation decreases and the contraction eventually prevails.Initial strength parameters(Poisson's ratio and tangent modulus)show a nonlinear relationship with confining pressures when the pressures are relatively low.Shear strength parameters decrease with increasing confining pressures. The failure envelope lines are convex curves, with clear curvature under low confining pressures.Under moderate confining pressures, dilation is offset by particle breakage.Under high confining pressures, dilation disappears. 展开更多

A new method, the stream surface strip element method, for simulating the three-dimensional deformation of plate and strip rolling process was proposed. The rolling deformation zone was divided into a number of stream surface(curved surface)strip elements along metal flow traces, and the stream surface strip elements were mapped into the corresponding plane strip elements for analysis and computation. The longitudinal distributions of the lateral displacement and the altitudinal displacement of metal were respectively constructed to be a quartic curve and a quadratic curve,of which the lateral distributions were expressed as the third-power spline function, and the altitudinal distributions were fitted in the quadratic curve. From the flow theory of plastic mechanics, the mathematical models of the three-dimensional deformations and stresses of the deformation zone were constructed.Compared with the streamline strip element method proposed by the first author of this paper, the stream surface strip element method takes into account the uneven distributions of stresses and deformations along altitudinal direction, and realizes the precise three-dimensional analysis and computation. The simulation example of continuous hot rolled strip indicates that the method and the model accord with facts and provide a new reliable engineering-computation method for the three-dimensional mechanics simulation of plate and strip rolling process. 展开更多

An incrementally nonlinear hypoplastic constitutive model was introduced, which was developed without recourse to the concepts in elastoplasticity theory such as yield surface, plastic potential and the decomposition of the deformation into elastic and plastic parts. Triaxial drained tests on rockfill were conducted on a large scale triaxial apparatus under two types of stress paths, which were the stress paths of constant stress ratio and the complex stress paths with transitional features. Motivated by the effect of stress path, the Gudehus-Bauer hypoplastic model was improved by considering the parameter variations with different ratios of stress increment. Fitting parameter a presents a piecewise linear relationship with cosine of the slope angle θ determined by instantaneous stress path. The improved hypoplastic model can present peak stress increasing and volumetric strain changing from dilatancy to contractancy with the increase of transitional confining pressure σ3t and the decrease of slope angle θ of stress path. Compared with the test data, it is shown that the model is capable of fully considering the effect of stress path on rockfill. 展开更多

A three-dimensional wave radiation stress is introduced into the hydrodynamic sediment coupled model COHERENS-SED, which has been developed through introducing wave-enhanced bottom shear stress, wave dependent surface drag coefficient, wave-induced surface mixing, SWAN, damping function of sediment on turbulence, sediment model and depth-dependent wave radiation stress to COHERENS. The COHERENS-SED is adopted to study the effects induced by wave-induced three-dimensional longshore current on suspended sediment spreading of the Huanghe River (Yellow River) mouth. Several different cases divided by setting different wave parameters of inputting boundary waves are carried out. The modeling results agree with measurement data. In terms of simulation results, it is easy to know that three-dimensional wave radiation stress plays an obvious role when inputting boundary wave height is stronger than 3 m. Moreover, wave direction also affects the sediment spreading rules of the mouth strongly too. 展开更多
