Corrosion is an essential issue limiting the application of high-strength low-carbon steel in seawater environment. The impact of retained austenite on its corrosion behavior with immersion experiments and related corrosion sensor technology was explored. A model that clarifies the micro-galvanic effect and the heat-induced changes to the shape and composition of retained austenite was used to discuss the findings. The results indicated that retained austenite was generated following an intercritical process and demonstrated approximately 48 mV higher Volta potential than the matrix. The retained austenite content first increased and then decreased with increasing intercritical temperatures, while reaching the maximum value of 8.5% at 660℃. With the increase in retained austenite content, the corrosion rate was increased by up to 32.8% compared to “quenching + tempering” (QT) specimen. The interfaces between the retained austenite and matrix were the priority nucleation sites for corrosion. Moreover, the retained austenite reduced the corrosion resistance of the steel by increasing the micro-galvanic effect and reducing rust layer compactness. 展开更多

The development of efficient catalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is of great significance for the practical application of water splitting in alkaline electrolytes.Transition metal sulfide electrocatalysts have been widely recognized as efficient catalysts for water splitting in alkaline media. In this work,an original and efficient synthesis strategy is proposed for the fabrication of asymmetric anode(N-(Co-Cu)S_(x))and cathode(N-CoS/Cu_(2)S).Impressively,these electrodes exhibit superior performance, benefiting from the construction of three-dimensional(3D)structures and the electronic structure adjustment caused by N-doping with increased active sites, improved mass/charge transport and enhanced evolution and release of gas bubbles.Hence,N-(Co-Cu)S_(x)anode exhibits excellent OER performance with only 217 mV overpotential at 10 mA·cm^(-2),while N-CoS/Cu_(2)S cathode possesses excellent HER performance with only 67 mV overpotential at 10 mA·cm^(-2).N-(Co-Cu)S_(x)||N-CoS/Cu_(2)S electrolyzer presents a low cell voltage of 1.53 V at 10 mA·cm^(-2)toward overall water splitting, which is superior to most recently reported transition metal sulfide-based catalysts. 展开更多

The efficient utilization of propeller slipstream energy is important for improving the ultra-short takeoff and landing capability of Distributed Electric Propulsion(DEP)aircraft. This paper presents a quasi-three-dimensional(2.5D)high-lift wing design approach considering the three-dimensional(3D)effects of slipstream for DEP aircraft, aiming at maximizing the comprehensive lift enhancement benefit of the airframe-propulsion coupling unit.A high-precision and efficient momentum source method is adopted to simulate the slipstream effects, and the distributed propellers are replaced by a rectangular actuator disk to reduce the difficulty of grid generation and improve the grid quality.A detailed comparison of the 2.5D and 3D configurations based on the X-57 ModⅣis performed in terms of flow characteristics and computational cost to demonstrate the rationality of the above design approach. The optimization results of the high-lift wing of the X-57 ModⅣshow that the aerodynamic performance of the landing configuration is significantly improved, for instance, the lift coefficient increases by 0.094 at the angle of attack of 7°,and 0.097 at the angle of attack of 14°.This novel approach achieves efficient and effective design of high-lift wings under the influence of distributed slipstream, which has the potential to improve the design level of DEP aircraft. 展开更多

The 2D limit equilibrium method is widely used for slope stability analysis. However, with the advancement of dump engineering, composite slopes often exhibit significant 3D mechanical effects.Consequently,it is of significant importance to develop an effective 3D stability calculation method for composite slopes to enhance the design and stability control of open-pit slope engineering.Using the composite slope formed by the mining stope and inner dump in Baiyinhua No.1 and No.2 open-pit coal mine as a case study, this research investigates the failure mode of composite slopes and establishes spatial shape equations for the sliding mass.By integrating the shear resistance and sliding force of each row of microstrip columns onto the bottom surface of the strip corresponding to the main sliding surface,a novel 2D equivalent physical and mechanical parameters analysis method for the strips on the main sliding surface of 3D sliding masses is proposed.Subsequently,a comprehensive 3D stability calculation method for composite slopes is developed, and the quantitative relationship between the coordinated development distance and its 3D stability coefficients is examined. The analysis reveals that the failure mode of the composite slope is characterized by cutting-bedding sliding, with the arc serving as the side interface and the weak layer as the bottom interface, while the destabilization mechanism primarily involves shear failure. The spatial form equation of the sliding mass comprises an ellipsoid and weak plane equation. The analysis revealed that when the coordinated development distance is 1500 m,the error rate between the 3D stability calculation result and the 2D stability calculation result of the composite slope is less than 8%,thereby verifying the proposed analytical method of equivalent physical and mechanical parameters and the 3D stability calculation method for composite slopes.Furthermore,the3D stability coefficient of the composite slope exhibits an exponential correlation with the coordinated development distance, with the coefficient gradually decreasing as the coordinated development distance increases. These findings provide a theoretical guideline for designing similar slope shape parameters and conducting stability analysis. 展开更多

As a new kind of technology in retaining structures, the characteristics of double-row piles are significantly affected by spatial effects. In this paper, double-row piles as a retaining structure are simulated numerically in three-dimension by finite element software PLAXIS 3D FOUNDATION. The behavior differences of piles in different positions around the foundation pit are analyzed. By changing the parameters, including the length-width ratio, the excavation depth, the distance between rows and the diameter of piles, the variations of the lateral deformation, the bending moment and the earth pressure around the piles are determined. The reasonable values of parameters and some suggestions with consideration of earth pressure are proposed for the design of double-row piles as a retaining structure. The results show that the lateral deformation and bending moment are the largest in the middle of long side of the foundation pit, which is identified as the most unfavorable position. It is indicated that the earth pressure between rows above pit bottom is close to active earth pressure, while the earth pressure between rows under pit bottom is close to static earth pressure. It is suggested that 1/2-2/3 of pile length, 0.6-1.2 m, 3d-6d, and 2d-2.5d be chosen as embedded depth of piles, diameter of piles, distance between rows, and distance between piles, respectively, where d is the pile diameter. 展开更多

BACKGROUND : Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is always regarded as the golden standard for diagnosis of intracranial aneurysm; however, the procedure is complex, traumatic, expensive and easy to induce vascular complication. Three-dimensional computed tomography angiography (3D-CTA) can make up deficiencies of DSA; therefore, it is used in clinical therapy wider and wider. OBJECTIVE : To evaluate the clinical effect of 3D-CTA on disruption and hemorrhage of intracranial aneurysm pre- and post-operation and compare with the effect of DSA. DESIGN : Auto-control contrast observation SETTING : Department of Neurosurgery, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University PARTICIPANTS : A number of 106 patients with disruption and hemorrhage of intracranial aneurysm were selected from the Department of Neurosurgery, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from January 2003 to April 2006. All patients were diagnosed with cranial operation and consent. There were 47 males and 59 females aged from 3-76 years with the mean age of (47±13) years. Among them, 82 patients had extensive subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), 7 had hemorrhage at longitudinal fissure, and 17 had hemorrhage at ambiens cistema and lateral fissure. Moreover, intraventricular hematocele was accompanied on 13 patients and hematom on 9 patients. METHODS: (1) 3D-CTA examination: Siemens SOMATOM Sensation 64 CT was used in this study. The thickness was 1 mm and interval of reconstruction was 0.8 mm. Localizing section was plainly scanned as the standard of canthus line. Scan ranged from 30 mm below sella to 50 mm above sella. Non-ion contrast medium of Omnipaque 350 (concentration of iodine was 350 g/L) was inserted into anterior vein of elbow with 18G trochar retained with high-pressured injectoc pum. The speed was 4.5 mL/s and the total volume was 80-100 mL with the means of 90 mL. Scan started at 10-20 s after injection of contrast medium. Original image was dealt with Leonardo workstation and retreated with Syngo software. Volume rendering and maximum intensity projection were used to reconstructed images, (2) All 106 patients suffered from occlusion of aneurysm clamp. Before operation, 3D-CTA was undertaken and DSA was followed. After operation, patients were rechecked with 3D-CTA. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Comparisons between 3D-CTA and DSA. RESULTS : All 106 patients were involved in the final analysis. (1) Examination of 3D-CTA and DSA: Among 118 patients with aneurysm, 110 were checked with 3D-CTA and the detected rate was 93.2% (110/118). Among other 8 cases, 3 were negative and checked again with DSA; 1 had pericallosal aneurysm, 1 ophthalmic aneurysm, and 1 anterior choroidal artery of aneurysm. 3D-CTA results of other 5 cases were suspicious, and then, they were regarded as having aneurysm with DSA. Before operation, correlation among site, body, neck of aneurysm and peripheral anatomic structure were shown sufficiently. After operation, 82 patients were rechecked with 3D-CTA, which was complete occlusion, precise, unobvious constriction, emphraxis or remains as compared with 3D-CTA those pre-operation. (2) Characteristics of 3D-CTA: With multiple vessels and angles, 3D-CTA observed the relationship between aneurysm neck and carried artery and showed thrombosis in cavity of aneurysm, calcification of aneurysm wall and peripheral structure of vessel at the same time. However, DSA could not detect the reactions mentioned above. It could delete image of cranium, simulate image of operative route, eliminate artifact induced by metal, but not distinguish blood stream direction. Meanwhile, posterior communicating artery was always poor during circle of Willis artery showing. CONCLUSION: (1) 3D-CTA is characterized by simple operation and non-invasive showing vascular stereo structure and correlation. Therefore, it is significant for diagnosis and designing plan of operative approach and focal location pre-operation and evaluating effect post-operation. (2) 3D-CTA does not completely replace DSA on the diagnosis of intracranial aneurysm. 展开更多

The microstructural evolution of a cold-rolled and intercritical annealed medium-Mn steel(Fe-0.10C-5Mn)was investigated during uniaxial tensile testing.In-situ observations under scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis were conducted to characterize the progressive transformation-induced plasticity process and associated fracture initiation mechanisms. These findings were discussed with the local strain measurements via digital image correlation. The results indicated that Lüders band formation in the steel was limited to 1.5%strain,which was mainly due to the early-stage martensitic phase transformation of a very small amount of the less stable large-sized retained austenite(RA),which led to localized stress concentrations and strain hardening and further retardation of yielding. The small-sized RA exhibited high stability and progressively transformed into martensite and contributed to a stably extended Portevin-Le Chatelier effect. The volume fraction of RA gradually decreased from 26.8%to 8.2%prior to fracture. In the late deformation stage, fracture initiation primarily occurred at the austenite/martensite and ferrite/martensite interfaces and the ferrite phase. 展开更多

A three-dimensional (3-D) approach based on the state space method is proposed to study size-dependent mechanical properties of ultra-thin plate-like elastic structures considering surface effects. The structure is modeled as a laminate composed of a bulk bounded with upper and bottom surface layers, which are allowed to have different material properties from the bulk layer. State equations, including the surface properties of the structure, can be established on the basis of 3-D fundamental elasticity to analyze the size-dependent static characteristics of the thin plate-like structure. Compared with two-dimensional plate theories based size-dependent models for thin film structures in literature, the present 3-D approach is exact, which can provide benchmark results to assess the accuracy of 2-D plate theories and various numerical approaches. To show the feasibility of the proposed approach, a 3-D analytical solution for a simply supported plate-like thin structure including surface layers is derived. An algorithm is proposed for the calculation of the state equations obtained to ensure that the numerical results can reveal the surface effects clearly even for extremely thin surface layers. Numerical examples are carried out to exhibit the surface effects and some discussions are provided based on the results obtained. 展开更多

The commonly used Mohr-Coulomb(M-C) failure condition has a limitation that it overestimates the tensile strength of cohesive soils. To overcome this limitation, the tensile strength cut-off was applied where the predicted tensile strength is reduced or eliminated. This work then presented a kinematical approach to evaluate the active earth pressure on subgrade retaining walls in cohesive backfills with saturated seepage effects. An effective rotational failure mechanism was constructed assuming an associative flow rule. The impact of seepage forces, whose distribution is described by a closed-form solution, was incorporated into the analysis. The thrust of active earth pressure was derived from the energy conservation equation, and an optimization program was then coded to obtain the most critical solution. Several sets of charts were produced to perform a parameter analysis. The results show that taking soil cohesion into account has a distinct beneficial influence on the stability of retaining walls, while seepage forces have an adverse effect. The active earth pressure increases when tensile strength cut-off is considered, and this increment is more noticeable under larger cohesion. 展开更多

The quantum Hall effect(QHE),which is usually observed in two-dimensional systems, was predicted theoretically and observed experimentally in three-dimensional(3 D)topological semimetal. However, there are some inconsistencies between the theory and the experiments showing the theory is imperfect. Here,we generalize the theory of the 3 D QHE of Fermi arcs in Weyl semimetal.Through calculating the sheet Hall conductivity of a Weyl semimetal slab,we show that the 3 D QHE of Fermi arcs can occur in a large energy range and the thickness dependences of the QHE in different Fermi energies are distinct. When the Fermi energy is near the Weyl nodes, the Fermi arcs give rise to the QHE which is independent of the thickness of the slab. When the Fermi energy is not near the Weyl nodes, the two Fermi arcs form a complete Fermi loop with the assistance of bulk states giving rise to the QHE which is dependent on the sample thickness. We also demonstrate how the band anisotropic terms influence the QHE of Fermi arcs. Our theory complements the imperfections of the present theory of 3 D QHE of Fermi arcs. 展开更多

Objective: To observe the recently therapeutic effects and toxicity of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with whole brain irradiation for patients with brain metastasis. Methods: 33 cases were treated by whole brain irradiation at first, the dose of which was 36-40 Gy (18-20 f). Then three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy was added to the focus with a total dose of 20-25 Gy, whose fractionated dose was 2-5 Gy/time, 5 times/week or 3 times/week. Results: Within 1 month after radiotherapy, according to imaging of the brain, the CR of all patients was 45.5%, PR 36.4%, NC 15.1%, and PD 3%. For the 32 cases with neural symptoms before radiation, the CR of the symptoms was 40.6% and PR 59.4%. All patients gained different increases in KPS grade. By the end of the follow-up period, there were 22 deaths with the mean survival time up to 9.3 months. Conclusion: Three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy combined with whole brain irradiation can not only effectively control brain metastases and improve life quality, but also tends to prolong survival time. 展开更多

Previous researches on the mechanical model of toppling failure mainly concentrated on twodimensional mechanical model(TwDM) analysis. The TwDM analysis assumes the width of the slab beam is unit width without considering the lateral constraint force. The assumed conditions are obviously different from the site conditions, thus there is a certain difference between the calculated results and the field work. A three-dimensional mechanical model(ThDM)of toppling failure was established, considering that the slab beam was mainly subject to self-weight, the frictional resistance of interlayer and lateral constraint force. Due to the progressive characteristics of toppling failure, the concept and the formula of the first fracture depth(FFD) of toppling was raised and constructed. The case study indicates that the ThDM is more effective and can be accurately used to calculate the toppling fracture depth of the slab beam. The FFD decreases proportionally with the increase of slab beam width. FFD grows fast when the slab beam width is less than 2.0 m and it tends to be stable when the slab beam width is above 2.0 m. The FFD decreases with the increase of the lateral constraint coefficient, indicating that the boundary condition of the free space is positively correlated with the stability and depth of toppling. This is a good explanation of the free space effect. This study provides a reference for the stability evaluation and prevention-control design of toppling slope in the future. 展开更多

In this paper, we investigate the performance of the bulk fin field effect transistor (FinFET) through a three- dimensional (3D) full band Monte Carlo simulator with quantum correction. Several scattering mechanisms, such as the acoustic and optical phonon scattering, the ionized impurity scattering, the impact ionization scattering and the surface roughness scattering are considered in our simulator. The effects of the substrate bias and the surface roughness scattering near the Si/SiO2 interface on the performance of bulk FinFET are mainly discussed in our work. Our results show that the on-current of bulk FinFET is sensitive to the surface roughness and that we can reduce the substrate leakage current by modulating the substrate bias voltage. 展开更多

The failure mechanism of two-dimensional(2D) and three-dimensional(3D) slopes were investigated by using the strength reduction method. An extensive study of 3D effect was conducted with respect to boundary conditions, shear strength and concentrated surcharge load. The results obtained by 2D and 3D analyses were compared and the applicable scope of 2D and 3D method was analyzed. The results of the numerical simulation show that 3D effect is sensitive to the width of slip surface. As for slopes with specific geometry,3D effect is influenced by dimensionless parameter c/(γHtanφ).For those infinite slopes with local loading, external load has the major impact on failure mode. For those slopes with local loading and geometric constraints, the failure mode is influenced by both factors. With the increase of loading length, boundary condition exerts a more significant impact on the failure mode, and then 2D and 3D stability charts are developed, which provides a rapid and reliable way to calculate 2D and 3D factor of safety without iteration. Finally,a simple and practical calculation procedure based on the study of 3D effect and stability charts is proposed to recognize the right time to apply 2D or 3D method. 展开更多

Suspensions of a latosol with a clay concentration of 30 g kg^(-1) wereprepared from electrodialyzed clay fractions, less than 2 μm in diameter, five nitrate solutionswith a concentration of 1 X 10^(04)/z mol L^(-1), where z is the valence, and five sodium saltsolutions with a concentration of 3.3 X 10^(-5)/2 mol L^(-1). The direct current (DC) electricalconductivities (ECs) of the colloidal suspensions were measured at a constant temperature of 25 ℃,using a newly established method of measuring the Wien effect in soil suspensions at field strengthsranging from 13.5 to 150 kV cm^(-1), to determine their electrical conductivity-field strengthrelationships and to infer the order of the bonding strength (retaining force) between soilparticles and various ions. The measurements with the latosol suspensions in NaNO_3, KNO_3,Ca(NO_3)_2, Mg(NO_3)_2 and Zn(NO_3)_2 solutions resulted in increments of the suspension ECs, ΔECs,of 7.9, 5.0, 7.1, 7.0 and 5.8 μS cm^(-1), respectively, when the applied field strength increasedfrom 14.5 to 142 kV cm^(-1). As for the suspensions in NaNO_3, NaCl, Na_2SO_4, Na_3PO_4 andNa_3AsO_4 solutions, the ΔECs were 6.2, 5.3, 4.1, 4.0 and 3.7μS cm^(-1), respectively, when theapplied field strength increased from 13.5 to 90 kV cm^(-1). Thus, it can be deduced that theretaining forces of the clay fraction of the latosol for the cations were in the descending orderK^+ > Zn^(2+) > Mg^(2+) ≥ Ca^(2+) > Na^+, and for the anions in the descending order H_2AsO_4^- >H_2PO_4^-≥ SO_4^(2-) > Cl^- > NO_3~ -. 展开更多

A three-dimensional electrochemical oxidation (3D-EC) reactor with introduction of activated carbon (AC) as particle micro-electrodes was apphed for the advanced treatment of secondary wastewater effluent of a wet-spun acrylic fiber manufacturing plant. Under the optimized conditions (current density of 500 A/m2, circulation rate of 5 mL/min, AC dosage of 50 g, and chloride concentration of 1.0 g/L), the average removal efficiencies of chemical oxygen demand (CODer), NH3-N, total organic carbon (TOC), and ultraviolet absorption at 254 nm (UV2s4) of the 3D-EC reactor were 64.5%, 60.8%, 46.4%, and 64.8%, respectively; while the corresponding effluent concentrations of CODcr, NH3-N, TOC, and UV2s4 were 76.6, 20.1, and 42.5 mg/L, and 0.08 Abs/cm, respectively. The effluent concentration of CODer was less than 100 mg/L, which showed that the treated wastewater satisfied the demand of the integrated wastewater discharge standard (GB 8978-1996). The 3D-EC process remarkably improved the treatment efficiencies with synergistic effects for CODer, NH3-N, TOC, and UV2s4 during the stable stage of 44.5%, 38.8%, 27.2%, and 10.9%, respectively, as compared with the sum of the efficiencies of a two-dimensional electrochemical oxidation (2D-EC) reactor and an AC adsorption process, which was ascribed to the numerous micro-electrodes of AC in the 3D-EC reactor. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis revealed that electro- chemical treatment did not generate more toxic organics, and it was proved that the increase in acute biotoxicity was caused primarily by the production of free chlorine. 展开更多

Using bathymetry and altimetric gravity anomalies, a 1°×9 1° lithospheric effective elastic thickness(Te) model over the Louisville Ridge and its adjacent regions is calculated using the moving window admittance technique. For comparison, three bathymetry models are used: general bathymetric charts of the oceans, SIO V15.1,and BAT_VGG. The results show that BAT_VGG is more suitable for calculating T e than the other two models. T e along the Louisville Ridge was re-evaluated. The southeast of the ridge has a medium Te of 10–20 km, while Te increases dramatically seaward of the Tonga-Kermadec trench as a result of the collision of the Pacific and IndoAustralian plates. 展开更多
