A fracture propagation model of radial well fracturing is established based on the finite element-meshless method. The model considers the coupling effect of fracturing fluid flow and rock matrix deformation. The fracture geometries of radial well fracturing are simulated, the induction effect of radial well on the fracture is quantitatively characterized, and the influences of azimuth, horizontal principle stress difference, and reservoir matrix permeability on the fracture geometries are revealed. The radial wells can induce the fractures to extend parallel to their axes when two radial wells in the same layer are fractured. When the radial wells are symmetrically distributed along the direction of the minimum horizontal principle stress with the azimuth greater than 15,the extrusion effect reduces the fracture length of radial wells. When the radial wells are symmetrically distributed along the direction of the maximum horizontal principal stress, the extrusion increases the fracture length of the radial wells. The fracture geometries are controlled by the rectification of radial borehole, the extrusion between radial wells in the same layer, and the deflection of the maximum horizontal principal stress. When the radial wells are distributed along the minimum horizontal principal stress symmetrically, the fracture length induced by the radial well decreases with the increase of azimuth;in contrast, when the radial wells are distributed along the maximum horizontal principal stress symmetrically, the fracture length induced by the radial well first decreases and then increases with the increase of azimuth. The fracture length induced by the radial well decreases with the increase of horizontal principal stress difference. The increase of rock matrix permeability and pore pressure of the matrix around radial wells makes the inducing effect of the radial well on fractures increase. 展开更多

The core sampling experiments were conducted after hydraulic fracturing in the three-dimensional development zone of Fuling shale gas.Six coring wells of different well types were systematically designed.Based on the integrated engineering technology of post-fracturing drilling, coring and monitoring of shale and the analysis of fracture source tracing, the evaluation of the fracture network after fracturing in the three-dimensional development of shale gas was conducted. The data of core fractures after fracturing indicate that three major types of fractures are formed after fracturing:natural fractures, hydraulic fractures, and fractures induced by external mechanical force, which are further classified into six subcategories:natural structural fractures, natural bedding fractures, hydraulic fractures, hydraulically activated fractures, drilling induced fractures, and fractures induced by core transportation. The forms of the artificial fracture network after fracturing are complex.Hydraulic fractures and hydraulically activated fractures interweave with each other, presenting eight forms of artificial fracture networks, among which the“一”-shaped fracture is the most common, accounting for approximately 70%of the total fractures. When the distance to the fractured wellbore is less than 35 m,the density of the artificial fracture network is relatively high;when it is 35–100 m,the density is lower;and when it is beyond 100 m,the density gradually increases. The results of the fracture tracing in the core sampling area confirm that the current fracturing technology can essentially achieve the differential transformation of the reservoir in the main area of Jiaoshiba block in Fuling. The three-layer three-dimensional development model can efficiently utilize shale gas reserves, although there is still room for improvement in the complexity and propagation uniformity of fractures. It is necessary to further optimize technologies such as close-cutting combined with temporary blocking and deflection within fractures or at fracture mouths,as well as limited flow perforation techniques,to promote the balanced initiation and extension of fractures. 展开更多

The increase in CO_(2)injectivity and shifting of CO_(2)-absorbing layers in multilayered geological CO_(2)sequestration(GCS)reservoirs in Ordos,China indicate significantpermeability variations in certain layers. To capture these system changes,a numerical model incorporating all 21 aquifers and internal aquitards was developed. The monitored pressure was well matched through multiphase and thermalhydraulic-mechanical(THM)coupling numerical simulations by introducing permeability variations. The results revealed that the permeability in the second layer increased on approximately day 13 due to the abrupt pressure buildup and temperature decrease.Even such a low rate of CO_(2)(2.8 kg/s)injected into the low permeability system initiated some fractures and the permeability in the second layer around the wellbore increased by 722 times. The second critical system change occurred on approximately day 386.As demonstrated in the numerical simulation, the substantial injection of cold CO_(2)induced strong thermal stress, leading to rock contraction and the initiation of several cracks. The permeability of the firstlayer around the wellbore unexpectedly increased by 4 orders of magnitude.Since no additional pressure could drive the CO_(2)into the remaining 17 layers, the total storage capability of the multilayered system was reduced.A whole picture of the system variation is fully presented and the underlying mechanisms are analyzed. It is believed that the phenomenon of thermal-hydraulic fracturing observed in this fieldand the simulation procedures will benefitother fluidinjection and production works in various geotechnical settings. 展开更多

Fractures are typically characterized by roughness that significantlyaffects the mechanical and hydraulic characteristics of reservoirs. However, hydraulic fracturing mechanisms under the influenceof fracture morphology remain largely unexplored.Leveraging the advantages of the finite-discrete element method(FDEM)for explicitly simulating fracture propagation and the strengths of the unifiedpipe model(UPM)for efficientlymodeling dual-permeability seepage,we propose a new hydromechanical(HM)coupling approach for modeling hydraulic fracturing.Validated against benchmark examples, the proposed FDEM-UPM model is further augmented by incorporating a Fourier-based methodology for reconstructing non-planar fractures, enabling quantitative analysis of hydraulic fracturing behavior within rough discrete fracture networks(DFNs).The FDEM-UPM model demonstrates computational advantages in accurately capturing transient hydraulic seepage phenomena, while the asynchronous time-stepping schemes between hydraulic and mechanical analyses substantially enhanced computational efficiencywithout compromising computational accuracy. Our results show that fracture morphology can affect both macroscopic fracture networks and microscopic interaction types between hydraulic fractures(HFs)and natural fractures(NFs).In an isotropic stress field, the initiation azimuth, propagation direction and microcracking mechanism are significantly influencedby fracture roughness. In an anisotropic stress field,HFs invariably propagate parallel to the direction of the maximum principal stress, reducing the overall complexity of the stimulated fracture networks.Additionally, stress concentration and perturbation attributed to fracture morphology tend to be compromised as the leak-off increases, while the breakdown and propagation pressures remain insensitive to fracture morphology. These findingsprovide new insights into the hydraulic fracturing mechanisms of fractured reservoirs containing complex rough DFNs. 展开更多

To address the key scientific challenge of monitoring the dynamic fracturing of surrounding rock in deep roadways, this study systematically investigates the quantitative relationship between stress and charge signals during coal mass loading.By integrating innovative analytical approaches, introducing quantitative evaluation indices, and developing a charge–stress inversion model, and incorporating underground monitoring practices, significant progress has been achieved in elucidating the correlation between stress variations and charge signals throughout the entire coal mass fracturing process.First,in the field of stress–charge correlation analysis, empirical mode decomposition(EMD)was combined with wavelet coherence analysis for the first time, enabling the removal of slow-varying stress trends while retaining high-frequency fluctuations. This approach allowed for the quantitative characterization of the evolution of coherence between stress variations and charge fluctuations across multiple time scales.Second, coherence skewness and the proportion of high-coherence intervals were innovatively introduced to examine the influence of time scale selection on correlation results. On this basis,a criterion for determining the near-optimal observation scale of charge signals was proposed, providing a quantitative reference for time scale selection in similar signal analyses. Finally,by correlating charge signals with coal damage factors and stress states,a charge-based damage evolution equation was established to achieve effective stress inversion.Combined with in situ monitoring of stress and charge in roadway surrounding rock, this approach revealed the correlation characteristics of stress and charge intensity responses during the dynamic fracturing process. The results indicate, first, that charge signals are not significantly correlated with the absolute stress level of coal but are directly associated with stress variations following coal damage and failure, with the amplitude of charge fluctuations increasing alongside stress fluctuations.Second, coherence between stress and charge signals varies markedly across time scales, with excessively small or large scales leading to distortion, and the scale corresponding to the peak proportion of intervals with coherence>0.8 was identified as the near-optimal observation scale.Third, charge signals can effectively characterize coal damage factors, and the established damage evolution equation can effectively invert stress variation trends.Fourth,in underground roadways, zones of dynamic fracturing in surrounding rock are commonly located in areas where stress concentration overlaps with regions of high charge intensity, further confirming the strong consistency between charge and stress variations. These findings improve the theoretical framework of charge signal responses in loaded coal and provide a scientific basis for precise“stress-charge”monitoring of dynamic disasters, offering practical potential for engineering applications. 展开更多

In the development of coalbed methane(CBM)reservoirs using multistage fractured horizontal wells, there often exist areas that are either repeatedly stimulated or completely unstimulated between fracturing stages, leading to suboptimal reservoir performance.Currently, there is no well-established method for accurately evaluating the effectiveness of such stimulation. This study introduces, for the first time, the concept of the Fracture Network Bridging Coefficient(FNBC)as a novel metric to assess stimulation performance.By quantitatively coupling the proportions of unstimulated and overstimulated volumes, the FNBC effectively characterizes the connectivity and efficiency of the fracture network.A background grid calibration method is developed to quantify the stage-controlled volume, effectively stimulated volume, unstimulated volume, and repeatedly stimulated volume among different stages of horizontal wells.Furthermore,an optimization model is constructed by taking the FNBC as the objective function and the fracturing injection rate and fluid volume as optimization variables. The Simultaneous Perturbation Stochastic Approximation(SPSA)algorithm is employed to iteratively perturb and optimize these variables, progressively improving the FNBC until the optimal displacement rate and fluid volume corresponding to the maximum FNBC are obtained.Field application in a typical CBM multistage fractured horizontal well in China demonstrates that the FNBC increased from 0.358 to 0.539(a 50.6% improvement),with the injection rate rising from 16 m^(3)/min to 24 m^(3)/min and the average fluid volume per stage increasing from 2490 m^(3) to 3192 m^(3),significantly enhancing the stimulation effectiveness. This research provides theoretical support for designing high-efficiency stimulation strategies in unconventional reservoirs under dynamic limits. 展开更多

Methane in-situ deflagration fracturing in shale is a revolutionary anhydrous technology. This paper selects shale samples from the Longmaxi Formation in Southern Sichuan to conduct deflagration fracturing tests with pressures ranging from 25 MPa to 91 MPa.Pore structure changes were experimentally measured to explore the modification differences of nanoscale pore characteristics under varying deflagration pressures. The results show that within the deflagration pressure range examined in this study,(1)Deflagration fracturing can alter the pore volume and specific surface area but does not affect the distribution characteristics of the pore size's peak position. The maximum increments of total pore volume occur at a pressure of 45 MPa.(2)When the deflagration pressure is less than 45 MPa,porosity gradually increases with rising deflagration pressure. When it is greater than 45 MPa,the porosity does not change significantly. With increasing deflagration pressure,it gradually increases:from nanopores, such as mesopores and macropores,to large pores and microcracks.(3)At the low deflagration pressure stage, under the influence of high temperature, slippage pores gradually increase, which is conducive to gas desorption and diffusion migration. As pressure increases, the impact of the explosion shock wave gradually increases, the volume of seepage pores increases significantly, and seepage dominates the migration mode. 展开更多

According to the Mindlin plate theory and the first-order piston theory, this work obtains accurate closed-form eigensolutions for the flutter problem of three-dimensional(3D)rectangular laminated panels. The governing differential equations are derived by the Hamilton's variational principle, and then solved by the iterative Separation-of-Variable(i SOV)method, which are applicable to arbitrary combinations of homogeneous Boundary Conditions(BCs).However, only the simply-support,clamped and cantilever panels are considered in this work for the sake of clarity. With the closed-form eigensolutions, the flutter frequency, flutter mode and flutter boundary are presented, and the effect of shear deformation and aerodynamic damping on flutter frequencies is investigated.Besides, the relation between panel energy and the work of aerodynamic load is discussed. The numerical comparisons reveal the following.(A)The flutter eigenvalues obtained by the present method are accurate, validated by the Finite Element Method(FEM)and the Galerkin method.(B)When the span-chord ratio is larger than 3,simplifying a 3D panel to 2D(two-dimensional)panel is reasonable and the relative differences of the flutter points predicted by the two models are less than one percent.(C)The reciprocal relationship between the mechanical energy of the panel and the work done by aerodynamic load is verified by using the present flutter eigenvalues and modes, further indicating the high accuracy of the present solutions.(D)The coupling of shear deformation and aerodynamic damping prevents frequency coalescing. 展开更多

Methane in-situ explosion fracturing(MISEF)enhances permeability in shale reservoirs by detonating desorbed methane to generate detonation waves in perforations.Fracture propagation in bedding shale under varying explosion loads remains unclear. In this study, prefabricated perforated shale samples with parallel and vertical bedding are fractured under five distinct explosion loads using a MISEF experimental setup.High-frequency explosion pressure-time curves were monitored within an equivalent perforation, and computed tomography scanning along with three-dimensional reconstruction techniques were used to investigate fracture propagation patterns.Additionally, the formation mechanism and influencing factors of explosion crack-generated fines(CGF)were clarified by analyzing the morphology and statistics of explosion debris particles. The results indicate that methane explosion generated oscillating-pulse loads within perforations.Explosion characteristic parameters increase with increasing initial pressure.Explosion load and bedding orientation significantly influence fracture propagation patterns. As initial pressure increases, the fracture mode transitions from bi-wing to 4–5 radial fractures. In parallel bedding shale, radial fractures noticeably deflect along the bedding surface.Vertical bedding facilitates the development of transverse fractures oriented parallel to the cross-section.Bifurcation-merging of explosioninduced fractures generated CGF.CGF mass and fractal dimension increase, while average particle size decreases with increasing explosion load. This study provides valuable insights into MISEF technology. 展开更多

Similar to hydraulic fracturing(HF), the coalescence and fracture of cracks are induced within a rock under the action of an ultrasonic field, known as ultrasonic fracturing(UF). Investigating UF is important in both hard rock drilling and oil and gas recovery. A three-dimensional internal laser-engraved crack(3D-ILC) method was introduced to prefabricate two parallel internal cracks within the samples without any damage to the surface. The samples were subjected to UF. The mechanism of UF was elucidated by analyzing the characteristics of fracture surfaces. The crack propagation path under different ultrasonic parameters was obtained by numerical simulation based on the Paris fatigue model and compared to the experimental results of UF. The results show that the 3D-ILC method is a powerful tool for UF research.Under the action of an ultrasonic field, the fracture surface shows the characteristics of beach marks and contains powder locally, indicating that the UF mechanism includes high-cycle fatigue fracture, shear and friction, and temperature load. The two internal cracks become close under UF. The numerical result obtained by the Paris fatigue model also shows the attraction of the two cracks, consistent with the test results. The 3D-ILC method provides a new tool for the experimental study of UF. Compared to the conventional numerical methods based on the analysis of stress-strain and plastic zone, numerical simulation can be a good alternative method to obtain the crack path under UF. 展开更多

This paper presents a three-dimensional fully hydro-mechanical coupled distinct element study on fault reactivation and induced seismicity due to hydraulic fracturing injection and subsequent backflow process, based on the geological data in Horn River Basin,Northeast British Columbia,Canada. The modeling results indicate that the maximum magnitude of seismic events appears at the fracturing stage. The increment of fluid volume in the fault determines the cumulative moment and maximum fault slippage, both of which are essentially proportional to the fluid volume. After backflow starts, the fluid near the joint intersection keeps flowing into the critically stressed fault, rather than backflows to the wellbore.Although fault slippage is affected by the changes of both pore pressure and ambient rock stress, their contributions are different at fracturing and backflow stages. At fracturing stage, pore pressure change shows a dominant effect on induced fault slippage. While at backflow stage, because the fault plane is under a critical stress state, any minor disturbance would trigger a fault slippage. The energy analysis indicates that aseismic deformation takes up a majority of the total deformation energy during hydraulic fracturing.A common regularity is found in both fracturing-and backflow-induced seismicity that the cumulative moment and maximum fault slippage are nearly proportional to the injected fluid volume. This study shows some novel insights into interpreting fracturing-and backflowinduced seismicity, and provides useful information for controlling and mitigating seismic hazards due to hydraulic fracturing. 展开更多

In this context, recent developments in the coupled three-dimensional(3 D) hydro-mechanical(HM)simulation tool TOUGH-RBSN are presented. This tool is used to model hydraulic fracture in geological media, as observed in laboratory-scale tests. The TOUGH-RBSN simulator is based on the effective linking of two numerical methods: TOUGH2, a finite volume method for simulating mass transport within a permeable medium; and a lattice model based on the rigid-body-spring network(RBSN) concept. The method relies on a Voronoi-based discretization technique that can represent fracture development within a permeable rock matrix. The simulator provides two-way coupling of HM processes, including fluid pressure-induced fracture and fracture-assisted flow. We first present the basic capabilities of the modeling approach using two example applications, i.e. permeability evolution under compression deformation, and analyses of a static fracturing simulation. Thereafter, the model is used to simulate laboratory tests of hydraulic fracturing in granite. In most respects, the simulation results meet expectations with respect to permeability evolution and fracturing patterns. It can be seen that the evolution of injection pressure associated with the simulated fracture developments is strongly affected by fluid viscosity. 展开更多

Acid fracturing is an indispensable technology in the efficient development of carbonate oil and gas rosarvoirs. As for deep and ultra-deep marine carbonate oil and gas reservoirs, however, existing acid fracturing technologies can hardly create complex fracture networks because of their particular engineering and geological characteristics. In order to realize the efficient three-dimensional development of deep and ultra-deep marine carbonate oil and gas reservoirs, this paper revealed the acid fracturing difficulties of this kind of reservoirs based on the engineering and geological characteristics of deep marine carbonate oil and gas reservoirs in China. Then,by taking the efficient three-dimensional development of deep and ultra-deep marine carbonate oiland gas reservoirs as the target, the technical conceptof three-dimensional acid fracturing(3D-AF)was putforward based on the techniques of volume acid fracturing and deep acid fracturing. In addition, its technical connotation was il lustrated, and its key technologies were described in detail. Finally, its development direction in the next step was pointed out.And the following research results were obtained.First, the 3D-AF technology contains three basic connotations:(1)selecting the corresponding acid penetration technology according to reservoir types so as to realize sufficient resarvoir stimulation on the plane;(2)creating complex acid-fracture volume with higher flow conductivity under high closed pressure;(3)deploying acid-fracture volume rationally along the long hole section so as to realize sufficient reservoir stimulation in the wellbore direction.Second, there are three key technologies of 3D-AF,i.e.,the technology for predicting the effective acid-penetrate distance under the coupling action of multi-feld,multi-scale and multi-fluid,the technology for optimizing the flow conductivity of complex acid-fracture volume, and the technology for precisely deploying acid in the long section of horizontal well or highly deviated well.Third,in order to promote the further development of 3D-AFtechnology,it is necessary to carry out researches on three technologies,i.e.,the technology for predicting and reducing the fracturing pressure of ultra-deep reservoir, the tech-nology for predicting the geometry of acid-fracture body ina strongly heterogeneous reservoir, and the staged reservoir production technology and new fluid technology with high temperature resistance, low reaction rate and low friction resistance coefficient for long hole sections(over 7000 m). 展开更多

The feasibility of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology cgmbined with minimally invasive surgery in the treatment of pubic rami fractures was explored. From August 2015 to October 2017,a series of 30 patients who underwent surgical stabilization of their anterior pelvic ring (all utilizing the 3D printing technology)by one surgeon at a single hospital were studied. The minimally invasive incisions were made through anterior inferior cilia spine and pubic nodule.Data collected included the operative duration, the blood loss, the damage of the important tissue, the biographic union and therecovery of the function after the operation.Measurements on inlet and outlet pelvic cardiograph were made immediately post-operation and at all follow-up clinic visits. The scores of reduction and function were measured during follow-up.Results showed that the wounds of 30 patients were healed in the first stage, and there was no injury of important structures such as blood vessels and nerves.According to the Matta criteria, excellent effectiveness was obtained in 22 cases and good in 8 cases.According to the functional evaluation criteria of Majeed, excellent effectiveness was obtained in 21 cases and good in 9 cases. It was suggested that the 3D printing technology assisted by minimally invasive surgery can better evaluate the pelvic fracture before operation, which was helpful in plate modeling, and can shorten surgery duration and reduce intraoperative blood loss and complications. The positioning accuracy was improved, and better surgical result was finally achieved. 展开更多

This paper is concerned with evaluation of various ductile fracture criteria in a general three-dimensional stress state of stress triaxiality, the Lode parameter and the equiva- lent plastic strain to fracture. Evaluation is carried out by comparing fracture loci constructed by fracture criteria to experimental results of A12024-T351. Comparison demonstrates that the Modified Mohr-Coulomb criterion and a newly proposed criterion provide sufficient predictabil- ity of fracture strain. Moreover, evaluation is emphasized on the predicted cut-off value for stress triaxiality. Determining the width of an induced hydraulic fracture is the first step for applying wellbore strengthening and hydraulic fracturing techniques. However, current 2-D analytical solutions obtained from the plane strain assumption may have large uncertainties when the fracture height is small. To solve this problem, a 3-D finite element method(FEM) is used to model wellbore strengthening and calculate the fracture width. Comparisons show that the 2-D plane strain solution is the asymptote of the 3-D FEM solution. Therefore, the 2-D solution may overestimate the fracture width. This indicates that the2-D solution may not be applicable in 3-D conditions. Based on the FEM modeling, a new 3-D semi-analytical solution for determining the fracture width is proposed, which accounts for the e ects of 3-D fracture dimensions, stress anisotropy and borehole inclination. Compared to the 2-D solution, this new 3-D semi-analytical solution predicts a smaller fracture width. This implies that the 2-D-based old design for wellbore strengthening may overestimate the fracture width, which can be reduced using the proposed 3-D solution. It also allows an easy way to calculate the fracture width in complex geometrical and geological conditions. This solution has been verified against 3-D finite element calculations for field applications. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Posterior malleolar fractures have been reported to occur in<40%of ankle fractures.AIM To reveal the recurrent patterns and characteristics of posterior malleolar fractures by creating fracture maps of the posterior malleolar fractures through the use of computed tomography mapping.METHODS A consecutive series of posterior malleolar fractures was used to create threedimensional reconstruction images, which were oriented and superimposed to fit an ankle model template by both aligning specific biolandmarks and reducing reconstructed fracture fragments.Fracture lines were found and traced in order to generate an ankle fracture map.RESULTS This study involved 112 patients with a mean age of 49,comprising 32 pronationexternal rotation grade IV fractures and 80 supination-external rotation grade IV fractures according to the Lauge-Hansen classification system.Three-dimensional maps showed that the posterior ankle fracture fragments in the supinationexternal rotation grade IV group were relatively smaller than those in the pronation-external rotation grade IV group after posterior malleolus fracture. In addition, the distribution analyses on posterior malleolus fracture lines indicated that the supination-external rotation grade IV group tended to have higher linear density but more concentrated and orderly distribution fractures compared to the pronation-external rotation grade IV group.CONCLUSION Fracture maps revealed the fracture characteristics and recurrent patterns of posterior malleolar fractures, which might help to improve the understanding of ankle fracture as well as increase opportunities for follow-up research and aid clinical decision-making. 展开更多

Objective: To analyze the biomechanical elements of Nitinol Patellar Concentrator (NT-PC) in heating commi nuted patellar fractures. Methods: The epoxy resin three dimensional photoelasticity pobal model was loaded with Nitinol Patellar Connector and frozen. After dividing layer, photographing and tracing, iterative method was used to calculate the stress value of every tuteed node. Rasults: Stress values of 1 262 nodes scattered in 12 layers were obtained The stress distribution indicated that an overall stress field was yield when the NT-PC fixated the patellar model, and there existed fixative stress in the facies articularis and distal pole of the patellar model. Conclusion: The NT-PC has evident therapeutic effect for the comminuted patellar fractures. The existing stress is helpful in maintaining anatomical reduction and enhancing fracture healing. 展开更多

Osteoporosis is a common metabolic skeletal disorder characterized by decreased bone mass and deteriorated bone structure, leading to increased susceptibility to fractures. With aging population, osteoporotic fractures are of global health and socioeconomic importance. The three-dimensional microstructural information of the common osteoporosis-related fracture sites, including vertebra, femoral neck and distal radius, is a key for fully understanding osteoporosis pathogenesis and predicting the fracture risk. Low vertebral bone mineral density(BMD) is correlated with increased fracture of the spine. Vertebral BMD decreases from cervical to lumbar spine, with the lowest BMD at the third lumbar vertebra. Trabecular bone mass of the vertebrae is much lower than that of the peripheral bone. Cancellous bone of the vertebral body has a complex heterogeneous three-dimensional microstructure, with lower bone volume in the central and anterior superior regions. Trabecular bone quality is a key element to maintain the vertebral strength. The increased fragility of osteoporotic femoral neck is attributed to low cancellous bone volume and high compact porosity. Compared with age-matched controls, increased cortical porosity is observed at the femoral neck in osteoporoticfracture patients. Distal radius demonstrates spatial inhomogeneous characteristic in cortical microstructure. The medial region of the distal radius displays the highest cortical porosity compared with the lateral, anterior and posterior regions. Bone strength of the distal radius is mainly determined by cortical porosity, which deteriorates with advancing age. 展开更多

As mass transport mechanisms, the spreading and mixing(dilution) processes of miscible contaminated compounds are fundamental to understanding reactive transport behaviors and transverse dispersion. In this study, the spreading and dilution processes of a miscible contaminated compound in a three-dimensional self-affine rough fracture were simulated with the coupled lattice Boltzmann method(LBM).Moment analysis and the Shannon entropy(dilution index) were employed to analyze the spreading and mixing processes, respectively. The corresponding results showed that the spreading process was anisotropic due to the heterogeneous aperture distribution.A compound was transported faster in a large aperture region than in a small aperture region due to the occurrence of preferential flow. Both the spreading and mixing processes were highly dependent on the fluid flow velocity and molecular diffusion. The calculated results of the dilution index showed that increasing the fluid flow velocity and molecular diffusion coefficient led to a higher increasing rate of the dilution index. 展开更多
