The efficient utilization of propeller slipstream energy is important for improving the ultra-short takeoff and landing capability of Distributed Electric Propulsion(DEP)aircraft. This paper presents a quasi-three-dimensional(2.5D)high-lift wing design approach considering the three-dimensional(3D)effects of slipstream for DEP aircraft, aiming at maximizing the comprehensive lift enhancement benefit of the airframe-propulsion coupling unit.A high-precision and efficient momentum source method is adopted to simulate the slipstream effects, and the distributed propellers are replaced by a rectangular actuator disk to reduce the difficulty of grid generation and improve the grid quality.A detailed comparison of the 2.5D and 3D configurations based on the X-57 ModⅣis performed in terms of flow characteristics and computational cost to demonstrate the rationality of the above design approach. The optimization results of the high-lift wing of the X-57 ModⅣshow that the aerodynamic performance of the landing configuration is significantly improved, for instance, the lift coefficient increases by 0.094 at the angle of attack of 7°,and 0.097 at the angle of attack of 14°.This novel approach achieves efficient and effective design of high-lift wings under the influence of distributed slipstream, which has the potential to improve the design level of DEP aircraft. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Fracture is one of the most pervasive injuries in the musculoskeletal system, and there is a complex interaction between macrophages and adipose tissue-derived stem cells(ADSCs)in fracture healing.However,two-dimensional(2D)coculture of macrophages and ADSCs can not accurately mimic the in vivo cell microenvironment.AIM To establish both 2D and 3D osteogenic coculture models to investigate the interaction between macrophages and ADSCs.METHODS After obtaining ADSCs from surgery and inducing differentiation of the THP1 cell line,we established 2D and 3D osteogenic coculture models. To assess the level of osteogenic differentiation,we used alizarin red staining and measured the relative expression levels of osteogenic differentiation markers osteocalcin,Runt-related transcription factor 2,and alkaline phosphatase through polymerase chain reaction.Verification was conducted by analyzing the expression changes of N-cadherin and the activation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway using western blotting.RESULTS In this study,it was discovered that macrophages in 3D culture inhibited osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs,contrary to the effect in 2D culture. This observation confirmed the significance of intricate intercellular connections in the 3D culture environment.Additionally, the 3D culture group exhibited significantly higher N-cadherin expression and showed reducedβ-catenin and Wnt1 protein levels compared to the 2D culture group.CONCLUSION Macrophages promoted ADSC osteogenic differentiation in 2D culture conditions but inhibited it in 3D culture. The 3D culture environment might inhibit the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway by upregulating N-cadherin expression, ultimately hindering the osteogenic differentiation of ADSCs.By investigating the process of osteogenesis in ADSCs,this study provides novel ideas for exploring 3D osteogenesis in ADSCs,fracture repair, and other bone trauma repair. 展开更多

In existing studies, most slope stability analyses concentrate on conditions with constant temperature, assuming the slope is intact, and employ the Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) failure criterion for saturated soil to characterize the strength of the backfill. However, the actual working temperature of slopes varies, and natural phenomena such as rainfall and groundwater infiltration commonly result in unsaturated soil conditions, with cracks typically present in cohesive slopes. This study introduces a novel approach for assessing the stability of unsaturated soil stepped slopes under varying temperatures, incorporating the effects of open and vertical cracks. Utilizing the kinematic approach and gravity increase method, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) rotational wedge failure mechanism to simulate slope collapse, enhancing the traditional two-dimensional analyses. We integrated temperature-dependent functions and nonlinear shear strength equations to evaluate the impact of temperature on four typical unsaturated soil types. A particle swarm optimization algorithm was employed to calculate the safety factor, ensuring our method’s accuracy by comparing it with existing studies. The results indicate that considering 3D effects yields a higher safety factor, while cracks reduce slope stability. Each unsaturated soil exhibits a distinctive temperature response curve, highlighting the importance of understanding soil types in the design phase. 展开更多

BACKGROUND : Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is always regarded as the golden standard for diagnosis of intracranial aneurysm; however, the procedure is complex, traumatic, expensive and easy to induce vascular complication. Three-dimensional computed tomography angiography (3D-CTA) can make up deficiencies of DSA; therefore, it is used in clinical therapy wider and wider. OBJECTIVE : To evaluate the clinical effect of 3D-CTA on disruption and hemorrhage of intracranial aneurysm pre- and post-operation and compare with the effect of DSA. DESIGN : Auto-control contrast observation SETTING : Department of Neurosurgery, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University PARTICIPANTS : A number of 106 patients with disruption and hemorrhage of intracranial aneurysm were selected from the Department of Neurosurgery, Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from January 2003 to April 2006. All patients were diagnosed with cranial operation and consent. There were 47 males and 59 females aged from 3-76 years with the mean age of (47±13) years. Among them, 82 patients had extensive subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), 7 had hemorrhage at longitudinal fissure, and 17 had hemorrhage at ambiens cistema and lateral fissure. Moreover, intraventricular hematocele was accompanied on 13 patients and hematom on 9 patients. METHODS: (1) 3D-CTA examination: Siemens SOMATOM Sensation 64 CT was used in this study. The thickness was 1 mm and interval of reconstruction was 0.8 mm. Localizing section was plainly scanned as the standard of canthus line. Scan ranged from 30 mm below sella to 50 mm above sella. Non-ion contrast medium of Omnipaque 350 (concentration of iodine was 350 g/L) was inserted into anterior vein of elbow with 18G trochar retained with high-pressured injectoc pum. The speed was 4.5 mL/s and the total volume was 80-100 mL with the means of 90 mL. Scan started at 10-20 s after injection of contrast medium. Original image was dealt with Leonardo workstation and retreated with Syngo software. Volume rendering and maximum intensity projection were used to reconstructed images, (2) All 106 patients suffered from occlusion of aneurysm clamp. Before operation, 3D-CTA was undertaken and DSA was followed. After operation, patients were rechecked with 3D-CTA. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Comparisons between 3D-CTA and DSA. RESULTS : All 106 patients were involved in the final analysis. (1) Examination of 3D-CTA and DSA: Among 118 patients with aneurysm, 110 were checked with 3D-CTA and the detected rate was 93.2% (110/118). Among other 8 cases, 3 were negative and checked again with DSA; 1 had pericallosal aneurysm, 1 ophthalmic aneurysm, and 1 anterior choroidal artery of aneurysm. 3D-CTA results of other 5 cases were suspicious, and then, they were regarded as having aneurysm with DSA. Before operation, correlation among site, body, neck of aneurysm and peripheral anatomic structure were shown sufficiently. After operation, 82 patients were rechecked with 3D-CTA, which was complete occlusion, precise, unobvious constriction, emphraxis or remains as compared with 3D-CTA those pre-operation. (2) Characteristics of 3D-CTA: With multiple vessels and angles, 3D-CTA observed the relationship between aneurysm neck and carried artery and showed thrombosis in cavity of aneurysm, calcification of aneurysm wall and peripheral structure of vessel at the same time. However, DSA could not detect the reactions mentioned above. It could delete image of cranium, simulate image of operative route, eliminate artifact induced by metal, but not distinguish blood stream direction. Meanwhile, posterior communicating artery was always poor during circle of Willis artery showing. CONCLUSION: (1) 3D-CTA is characterized by simple operation and non-invasive showing vascular stereo structure and correlation. Therefore, it is significant for diagnosis and designing plan of operative approach and focal location pre-operation and evaluating effect post-operation. (2) 3D-CTA does not completely replace DSA on the diagnosis of intracranial aneurysm. 展开更多

The failure mechanism of two-dimensional(2D) and three-dimensional(3D) slopes were investigated by using the strength reduction method. An extensive study of 3D effect was conducted with respect to boundary conditions, shear strength and concentrated surcharge load. The results obtained by 2D and 3D analyses were compared and the applicable scope of 2D and 3D method was analyzed. The results of the numerical simulation show that 3D effect is sensitive to the width of slip surface. As for slopes with specific geometry,3D effect is influenced by dimensionless parameter c/(γHtanφ).For those infinite slopes with local loading, external load has the major impact on failure mode. For those slopes with local loading and geometric constraints, the failure mode is influenced by both factors. With the increase of loading length, boundary condition exerts a more significant impact on the failure mode, and then 2D and 3D stability charts are developed, which provides a rapid and reliable way to calculate 2D and 3D factor of safety without iteration. Finally,a simple and practical calculation procedure based on the study of 3D effect and stability charts is proposed to recognize the right time to apply 2D or 3D method. 展开更多

Three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) La1?xKxNiO3 perovskite-type catalysts were successfully prepared by a colloidal crystal template method and characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray scattering elemental mapping, X-ray diffraction, Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed reduction of H2. Further, their catalytic activity in soot combustion was determined by temperature-programmed oxidation reaction. K substitution into the LaNiO3 lattice led to remarkably improved catalytic activity of this catalyst in soot combustion. Amongst various catalysts, La0.95K0.05NiO3 exhibited the highest activity in soot combustion (with its T50 and CO2 S values being 338 °C and 98.2%, respectively), which is comparable to the catalytic activities of Pt-based catalysts under the condition of poor contact between the soot and the catalyst. K-substitution improves the valence state of Ni and increases the number of oxygen vacancies, thereby leading to increased density of surface-active oxygen species. The active oxygen species play a vital role in catalyzing the elimination of soot. The perovskite-type La1?xKxNiO3 nanocatalysts with 3DOM structure without noble metals have potential for practical applications in the catalytic combustion of diesel soot particles. 展开更多

Objective:This study investigated the effect of proximal contact strength on the three-dimensional displacements of cantilever fixed partial denture(CFPD) under vertically concentrated loading with digital laser speckle(DLS) technique. Methods:Fresh mandible of beagle dog was used to establish the implant-supported CFPD for specimen.DLS technique was employed for measuring the three-dimensional displacement of the prosthesis under vertically concentrated loading ranging from 200 to 3 000 g.The effect of the contact tightness on the displacement of CFPD was investigated by means of changing the contact tightness. Results:When an axial concentrated loading was exerted on the pontic of the implant-supported CFPD,the displacement of the CFPD was the greatest. The displacement of the prosthesis decreased with the increase of contact strength. When the contact strength was 0,0.95,and 3.25 N,the displacement of the buccolingual direction was smaller than that of the mesiodistal direction but greater than that of the occlusogingival direction. When the force on the contact area was 6.50 N,the mesiodistal displacement of the prosthesis was the biggest while the buccolingual displacement was the smallest. Conclusions:The implant supported CFPD is an effective therapy for fully or partially edentulous patients. The restoration of the contact area and the selection of the appropriate contact strength can reduce the displacement of the CFPD,and get a better stress distribution. The most appropriate force value is 3.25 N in this study. 展开更多

A three-dimensional finite element simulation was carried out to investigate the effects of tunnel construction on nearby pile foundation. The displacement controlled model (DCM) was used to simulate the tunneling-induced volume loss effects. The numerical model was verified based on the results of a centrifuge test and a set of parametric studies was implemented based on this model. There is good agreement between the trend of the results of the centrifuge test and the present model. The results of parametric studies show that the tunnelling-induced pile internal force and deformation depend mainly on the pile?tunnel distance, the pile length to tunnel depth ratio and the volume loss. Two different zones are separated by a 45° line projected from the tunnel springline.Within the zone of influence, the pile is subjected to tensile force and large settlement;whereas outside the zone of influence, dragload and small settlement are induced. It is also established that the impact of tunnelling on a pile group is substantially smaller as compared with a single pile in the same location with the rear pile in a group, demonstrating a positive pile group effect. 展开更多

Three-dimensional(3D)urban structures play a critical role in informing climate mitigation strategies aimed at the built environment and facilitating sustainable urban development.Regrettably, there exists a significant gap in detailed and consistent data on 3D building space structures with global coverage due to the challenges inherent in the data collection and model calibration processes. In this study,we constructed a global urban structure(GUS-3D)dataset,including building volume, height, and footprint information,at a 500 m spatial resolution using extensive satellite observation products and numerous reference building samples. Our analysis indicated that the total volume of buildings worldwide in2015 exceeded 1×10^(12)m^(3).Over the 1985 to 2015 period,we observed a slight increase in the magnitude of 3D building volume growth(i.e.,it increased from 166.02 km3 during the 1985–2000 period to 175.08km3 during the 2000–2015 period),while the expansion magnitudes of the two-dimensional(2D)building footprint(22.51×10^(3) vs 13.29×10^(3)km^(2))and urban extent(157×10^(3) vs 133.8×10^(3)km^(2))notably decreased. This trend highlights the significant increase in intensive vertical utilization of urban land.Furthermore,we identified significant heterogeneity in building space provision and inequality across cities worldwide. This inequality is particularly pronounced in many populous Asian cities, which has been overlooked in previous studies on economic inequality. The GUS-3D dataset shows great potential to deepen our understanding of the urban environment and creates new horizons for numerous 3D urban studies. 展开更多

To address the problem of multi-missile cooperative interception against maneuvering targets at a prespecified impact time and desired Line-of-Sight(LOS)angles in ThreeDimensional(3D)space,this paper proposes a 3D leader-following cooperative interception guidance law.First,in the LOS direction of the leader,an impact time-controlled guidance law is derived based on the fixed-time stability theory, which enables the leader to complete the interception task at a prespecified impact time.Next,in the LOS direction of the followers,by introducing a time consensus tracking error function,a fixed-time consensus tracking guidance law is investigated to guarantee the consensus tracking convergence of the time-to-go.Then,in the direction normal to the LOS,by combining the designed global integral sliding mode surface and the second-order Sliding Mode Control(SMC)theory,an innovative 3D LOS-angle-constrained interception guidance law is developed, which eliminates the reaching phase in the traditional sliding mode guidance laws and effectively saves energy consumption. Moreover,it effectively suppresses the chattering phenomenon while avoiding the singularity issue, and compensates for unknown interference caused by target maneuvering online, making it convenient for practical engineering applications. Finally, theoretical proof analysis and multiple sets of numerical simulation results verify the effectiveness, superiority, and robustness of the investigated guidance law. 展开更多

The distance of the bubbles to the free surface is the key factor to different phenomena. When the inception distance varies in some range, crown phenomenon would happen after the impact of weak buoyancy bubbles, so this kind of spike is defined as crown spike in the present paper. Based on potential flow theory, a three-dimensional numerical model is established to simulate the motion of the free-surface spike generated by one bubble or a horizontal line of two in-phase bubbles. After the downward jet formed near the end of the collapse phase, the simulation of the free surface is performed to study the crown spike without regard to the toroidal bubble's effect. Calculations about the interaction between one bubble and free surface agree well with the experimental results conducted with a high-speed camera, and relative error is within 15%. Crown spike in both single- and two-bubble cases are simulated numerically. Different features and laws of the motion of crown spike, depending on the bubble-boundary distances and the inter-bubble distances, have been investigated. 展开更多

As a new kind of technology in retaining structures, the characteristics of double-row piles are significantly affected by spatial effects. In this paper, double-row piles as a retaining structure are simulated numerically in three-dimension by finite element software PLAXIS 3D FOUNDATION. The behavior differences of piles in different positions around the foundation pit are analyzed. By changing the parameters, including the length-width ratio, the excavation depth, the distance between rows and the diameter of piles, the variations of the lateral deformation, the bending moment and the earth pressure around the piles are determined. The reasonable values of parameters and some suggestions with consideration of earth pressure are proposed for the design of double-row piles as a retaining structure. The results show that the lateral deformation and bending moment are the largest in the middle of long side of the foundation pit, which is identified as the most unfavorable position. It is indicated that the earth pressure between rows above pit bottom is close to active earth pressure, while the earth pressure between rows under pit bottom is close to static earth pressure. It is suggested that 1/2-2/3 of pile length, 0.6-1.2 m, 3d-6d, and 2d-2.5d be chosen as embedded depth of piles, diameter of piles, distance between rows, and distance between piles, respectively, where d is the pile diameter. 展开更多

A three-dimensional wave radiation stress is introduced into the hydrodynamic sediment coupled model COHERENS-SED, which has been developed through introducing wave-enhanced bottom shear stress, wave dependent surface drag coefficient, wave-induced surface mixing, SWAN, damping function of sediment on turbulence, sediment model and depth-dependent wave radiation stress to COHERENS. The COHERENS-SED is adopted to study the effects induced by wave-induced three-dimensional longshore current on suspended sediment spreading of the Huanghe River (Yellow River) mouth. Several different cases divided by setting different wave parameters of inputting boundary waves are carried out. The modeling results agree with measurement data. In terms of simulation results, it is easy to know that three-dimensional wave radiation stress plays an obvious role when inputting boundary wave height is stronger than 3 m. Moreover, wave direction also affects the sediment spreading rules of the mouth strongly too. 展开更多

The fabrication process dependent effects on single event effects (SEEs) are investigated in a commercial silicon- germanium heterojunction bipolar transistor (SiGe HBT) using three-dimensional (3D) TCAD simulations. The influences of device structure and doping concentration on SEEs are discussed via analysis of current transient and charge collection induced by ions strike. The results show that the SEEs representation of current transient is different from representation of the charge collection for the same process parameters. To be specific, the area of C/S junction is the key parameter that affects charge collection of SEE. Both current transient and charge collection are dependent on the doping of collector and substrate. The base doping slightly influences transient currents of base, emitter, and collector terminals. However, the SEEs of SiGe HBT are hardly affected by the doping of epitaxial base and the content of Ge. 展开更多

Due to seasonal climate alterations, the microstructure and permeability of granite residual soil are easily affected by multiple dry-wet cycles. The X-ray micro computed tomography(micro-CT)acted as a nondestructive tool for characterizing the microstructure of soil samples exposed to a range of damage levels induced by dry-wet cycles.Subsequently, the variations of pore distribution and permeability due to drywet cycling effects were revealed based on three-dimensional(3D)pore distribution analysis and seepage simulations.According to the results, granite residual soils could be separated into four different components, namely, pores, clay, quartz, and hematite, from micro-CT images. The reconstructed 3D pore models dynamically demonstrated the expanding and connecting patterns of pore structures during drywet cycles. The values of porosity and connectivity are positively correlated with the number of dry-wet cycles, which were expressed by exponential and linear functions, respectively. The pore volume probability distribution curves of granite residual soil coincide with the χ^(2)distribution curve, which verifies the effectiveness of the assumption of χ^(2)distribution probability. The pore volume distribution curves suggest that the pores in soils were divided into four types based on their volumes,i.e.micropores,mesopores,macropores,and cracks. From a quantitative and visual perspective, considerable small pores are gradually transformed into cracks with a large volume and a high connectivity.Under the action of dry-wet cycles, the number of seepage flow streamlines which contribute to water permeation in seepage simulation increases distinctly,as well as the permeability and hydraulic conductivity. The calculated hydraulic conductivity is comparable with measured ones with an acceptable error margin in general, verifying the accuracy of seepage simulations based on micro-CT results. 展开更多

In this paper, the three-dimensional (3D) coupling effect is discussed for nanowire junctionless silicon-on-insulator (SOI) FinFETs. With fin width decreasing from 100 nm to 7 nm, the electric field induced by the lateral gates increases and therefore the influence of back gate on the threshold voltage weakens. For a narrow and tall fin, the lateral gates mainly control the channel and therefore the effect of back gate decreases. A simple two-dimensional (2D) potential model is proposed for the subthreshold region of junctionless SO1 FinFET. TCAD simulations validate our model. It can be used to extract the threshold voltage and doping concentration. In addition, the tuning of back gate on the threshold voltage can be predicted. 展开更多

Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas, however, its occurrence rate is still rare compared to other cancers.Due to its rarity,in vitro experiments are an essential approach to elucidate liposarcoma pathobiology.Conventional cell culture-based research(2D cell culture)is still playing a pivotal role, while several shortcomings have been recently under discussion. In vivo, mouse models are usually adopted for pre-clinical analyses with expectations to overcome the issues of 2D cell culture. However, they do not fully recapitulate human dedifferentiated liposarcoma(DDLPS)characteristics.Therefore,three-dimensional(3D)culture systems have been the recent research focus in the cell biology field with the expectation to overcome at the same time the disadvantages of 2D cell culture and in vivo animal models and fill in the gap between them.Given the liposarcoma rarity,we believe that 3D cell culture techniques, including 3D cell cultures/co-cultures,and Patient-Derived tumor Organoids(PDOs),represent a promising approach to facilitate liposarcoma investigation and elucidate its molecular mechanisms and effective therapy development. In this review,we first provide a general overview of 3D cell cultures compared to 2D cell cultures. We then focus on one of the recent 3D cell culture applications,Patient-Derived Organoids(PDOs),summarizing and discussing several PDO methodologies. Finally,we discuss the current and future applications of PDOs to sarcoma, particularly in the field of liposarcoma. 展开更多

The quantum Hall effect(QHE),which is usually observed in two-dimensional systems, was predicted theoretically and observed experimentally in three-dimensional(3 D)topological semimetal. However, there are some inconsistencies between the theory and the experiments showing the theory is imperfect. Here,we generalize the theory of the 3 D QHE of Fermi arcs in Weyl semimetal.Through calculating the sheet Hall conductivity of a Weyl semimetal slab,we show that the 3 D QHE of Fermi arcs can occur in a large energy range and the thickness dependences of the QHE in different Fermi energies are distinct. When the Fermi energy is near the Weyl nodes, the Fermi arcs give rise to the QHE which is independent of the thickness of the slab. When the Fermi energy is not near the Weyl nodes, the two Fermi arcs form a complete Fermi loop with the assistance of bulk states giving rise to the QHE which is dependent on the sample thickness. We also demonstrate how the band anisotropic terms influence the QHE of Fermi arcs. Our theory complements the imperfections of the present theory of 3 D QHE of Fermi arcs. 展开更多
