The NPMOC displays a multi-cell structure with four cells in the North Pacific altogether. The TC and the STC are a strong clockwise meridional cell in the low latitude ocean and a weaker clockwise meridional cell between 7°N and 18°N, respectively, while the DTC and the subpolar cell are a weaker anticlockwise meridional cell between 3°N and 15°N and a weakest anticlockwise meridional cell between 35°N and 50°N, respectively. The DTC, the TC and the STC are all of very strong seasonal variations. As to the DTC, the southward transport is strongest in fall and weakest in spring. For the TC, the northward transport is strongest in winter and weakest in spring, while the southward transport is strongest in fall and weakest in spring, which is associated with the strong southward fiow of the DTC in fall. As the STC, the northward transport is strongest in winter and weakest in summer, while the southward transport is strongest in summer and weakest in spring. This seasonal difference may be associated with the DTC. The zonal wind stress and the east-west slope of sea level play important roles in the seasonal variations of the TC, the STC and the DTC.展开更多

The model solves the three-dimensional wave-averaged equations of motion. Wave-induced effects on circulation were introduced in the form of radiation stresses, wave-induced mass transport, wave-induced enhancement of bottom friction and wave-induced turbulent mixing. Effects of breaking waves were considered following Svendsen (1984a and 1984b) and Stive and Wind (1986). The model was successfully tested against the analytical solution of longshore currents by Longuet and Higgins (1970). The model successfully simulated the undertow as observed in a laboratory experiment by Stive and Wind (1982). In addition, the model was applied to a physical model by Mory and Hamm (1997) and successfully reproduced the eddy behind a detached breakwater as well as the longshore current on the open beach and the contiguous eddy in the open area of the wave tank. While the qualitative agreement between model results and experimental observations was very good, the quantitative agreement needs to be further improved. Albeit difficult to explain every discrepancy between the model results and observations, in general, sources of errors are attributed to the lack of understanding and comprehensive description of following processes: (1)the horizontal and vertical distribution of radiation stress, especially for breaking waves;(2)the detailed structure of turbulence;(3)Wave-current interaction (not included at this moment); and (4)the wave-current boundary layer and the resulting bottom shear stress.展开更多

The results show that the optimal initial perturbations of temperature and salinity exciting the strongest decadal THC variations have similar structures: the perturbations are mainly in the northwestern basin at a depth ranging from 1500 to 3000 m. These temperature and salinity perturbations act as the optimal precursors for future modifications of the THC, highlighting the importance of observations in the northwestern basin to monitor the variations of temperature and salinity at depth. The decadal THC variation in the nonlinear model initialized by the optimal salinity perturbations is much stronger than that caused by the optimal temperature perturbations, indicating that salinity variations might play a relatively important role in exciting the decadal THC variability. Moreover, the decadal THC variations in the tangent linear and nonlinear models show remarkably different characteristics, suggesting the importance of nonlinear processes in the decadal variability of the THC.展开更多

In the SCS middle and deep layer, a southward boundary current exists along the east shore of the Indo-China Peninsula all year long. A cyclonic eddy (gyre) is formed by the current in the above sea areas except in the middle layer in spring, when an anticyclonic eddy exists on the eastern side of the current. In the deep layer, a large-scale anticyclonic eddy often exists in the sea areas between the Zhongsha Islands and west shore of southern Luzon Island. 2. In the middle layer in summer and autumn, and in the deep layer in autumn and winter, there is an anticyclonic eddy (gyre) in the northeastern SCS, while in the middle layer in winter and spring, and in the deep layer in spring and summer, there is a cyclonic one. 3. In the middle layer, there is a weak northeastward current in the Nansha Trough in spring and summer, while in autumn and winter it evolves into an anticyclonic eddy (gyre), which then spreads westward to the whole western Nansha Islands sea areas.展开更多

Diagnostic analyses, analogous to the approaches in meteorology: ω-equation and Q-vector method, are for the first time developed to examine the mesoscaie dynamical processes and mechanisms of the unstable waves propagating in the mid-latitude ocean. The weaknesses and strengths of these two diagnostic approaches are evaluated and compared to the model results. The Q-vector method is then recommended to diagnose the vertical motion associated with the mesoscaie dynamics from a hydrographic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) array, while the quasi-geostrophic equations produce some small-scale features (errors) in the diagnosed fields.展开更多

Solutions to the three dimensional N-S equations were obtained by the finite volume method. The focus of this numerical simulation was to research the characteristics of pressure distribution (drag and litt forces) and vortex tubes at high Reynolds numbers. The results of the calculations showed that the forces at every section in the spanwise direction of the cylinder were symmetrical about the middle section and smaller than the forces calculated in two dimensional cases. Moreover, the flow around the cylinder obviously presents three dimensional characteristics.展开更多

The spalling failure under SWC can be divided into four periods: calm period, buckling deformation period, period of rock fragment gradual buckling and exfoliation, and period of formation of symmetrical V-shaped notches. When the horizontal axial and vertical stresses were constant, the spalling failure severity was reduced with the increase in lateral stress. Under natural water content, a strong rockburst with dynamic failure characteristics occurred on the circular hole sidewall. Under SWC, the failure severity was reduced and the circular hole sidewall experienced spalling failure, exhibiting progressive static failure characteristics. Therefore, water can reduce the failure severity of surrounding rocks in deep underground engineering, which has a certain guiding significance for the prevention and control of rockbursts.展开更多

The radial deformation function of the fexspline (FS), obtained through Finite Element (FE) analysis, is incorporated into the kinematics model. By analyzing the FS tooth enveloping process, the optimization of the overlapping conjugate tooth profle is achieved. By utilizing the hobbing process, the three-dimensional machinable tooth surface of FS can be acquired. Utilizing the coning deformation of the FS, simulations are conducted to analyze the multi-section assembly and meshing motion of the machinable tooth surface. The FE method is utilized to analyze and compare the loaded contact characteristics. Results demonstrate that the proposed design method can achieve an internal gear pair consisting of a circular spline with a spur gear tooth surface and the FS with a machinable tooth surface. With the rated torque, approximately 24% of the FS teeth are engaged in meshing, and more than 4/5 of the tooth surface in the axial direction carries the load. The contact patterns, maximum contact pressure, and transmission error of the machinable tooth surface are 227.2%, 40.67%, and 71.24% of those on the spur gear tooth surface, respectively. It clearly demonstrates exceptional transmission performance.展开更多

Albeit difficult to explain every discrepancy between the model results and observations, in general, sources of errors are attributed to the lack of understanding and comprehensive description of following processes: (1)the horizontal and vertical distribution of radiation stress, especially for breaking waves;(2)the detailed structure of turbulence;(3)Wave-current interaction (not included at this moment); and (4)the wave-current boundary layer and the resulting bottom shear stress.

文摘The decadal variability of the North Atlantic thermohaline circulation(THC) is investigated within a three-dimensional ocean circulation model using the conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation method. Moreover, the decadal THC variations in the tangent linear and nonlinear models show remarkably different characteristics, suggesting the importance of nonlinear processes in the decadal variability of the THC.
文摘A three-dimensional baroclinic shelf sea model’s numerical simulation of the South China Sea (SCS) middle and deep layer circulation structure showed that: 1. 3. In the middle layer, there is a weak northeastward current in the Nansha Trough in spring and summer, while in autumn and winter it evolves into an anticyclonic eddy (gyre), which then spreads westward to the whole western Nansha Islands sea areas.
文摘A three-dimensional density field associated with mesoscaie unstable waves generated by the 3-D, primitive-equation model (Wang and Ikeda, 1996) is provided to the quasi-geostrophic pressure tendency and ω-equations, and to the (ageostrophic) Q-vector equation. The Q-vector method is then recommended to diagnose the vertical motion associated with the mesoscaie dynamics from a hydrographic CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) array, while the quasi-geostrophic equations produce some small-scale features (errors) in the diagnosed fields.
文摘The hydrodynamic characteristics of a rigid, single, circular cylinder in a three dimensional, incompressible, uniform cross flow were calculated using the large-eddy simulation method of CFX5. Moreover, the flow around the cylinder obviously presents three dimensional characteristics.

文摘The movement of global ocean circulation in the Earth’s main magnetic field generates a measurable induced magnetic field(about 2 nT at geomagnetic satellite altitudes). However, this ocean circulation-induced magnetic field has not been previously estimated or incorporated into geomagnetic field models, potentially causing leakage into the core field model. Here,we present a method to account for the circulation-induced magnetic field during geomagnetic field modeling.First,a forward model of the circulation-induced magnetic field is constructed by numerically solving electromagnetic induction equations based on a realistic ocean circulation model. Then, this forward model is subtracted from the observed data. Finally, the core and lithospheric fields, magnetospheric and Earth’s mantle-induced fields, and the ocean tide-induced magnetic field are co-estimated.Applying our method to over 20 years of MSS-1,Swarm,CryoSat-2,and CHAMP satellite magnetic data,we derive a new multisource geomagnetic field model(MGFM).We find that incorporating a forward model of the circulation-induced magnetic field marginally improves the fit to the data.Furthermore,we demonstrate that neglecting the circulation-induced magnetic field in geomagnetic field modeling results in leakage into the core field model. The highlights of the MGFM model include:(i)a good agreement with the widely used CHAOS model series;(ii)the incorporation of magnetic fields induced by both ocean tides and circulation;and(iii)the suppression of leakage of the circulation-induced magnetic field into the core field model.

文摘Carbon dioxide(CO2),the main gas emitted from fossil burning,is the primary contributor to global warming.Circulating fluidized bed reactor(CFBR)is proved as an energy-efficient method for post-combustion CO2 capture. The numerical simulation by computational fluid dynamics(CFD)is believed as a promising tool to study CO2 adsorption process in CFBR.Although three-dimensional(3D)simulations were proved to have better predicting performance with the experimental results,two-dimensional(2D)simulations have been widely reported for qualitative and quantitative studies on gas-solid behavior in CFBR for its higher computational efficiency recently. However, the discrepancies between 2D and 3D simulations have rarely been evaluated by detailed study.Considering that the differences between the 2D and 3D simulations will vary substantially with the changes of independent operating conditions,it is beneficial to lower computational costs to clarify the effects of dimensionality on the numerical CO2 adsorption runs under various operating conditions. In this work, the comparative analysis for CO2 adsorption in 2D and 3D simulations was conducted to enlighten the effects of dimensionality on the hydrodynamics and reaction behaviors,in which the separation rate, species distribution and hydrodynamic characteristics were comparatively studied for both model frames. With both accuracy and computational costs considered, the viable suggestions were provided in selecting appropriate model frame for the studies on optimization of operating conditions, which directly affect the capture and energy efficiencies of cyclic CO2 capture process in CFBR.

文摘Three-dimensional(3D)urban structures play a critical role in informing climate mitigation strategies aimed at the built environment and facilitating sustainable urban development.Regrettably, there exists a significant gap in detailed and consistent data on 3D building space structures with global coverage due to the challenges inherent in the data collection and model calibration processes. In this study,we constructed a global urban structure(GUS-3D)dataset,including building volume, height, and footprint information,at a 500 m spatial resolution using extensive satellite observation products and numerous reference building samples. Our analysis indicated that the total volume of buildings worldwide in2015 exceeded 1×10^(12)m^(3).Over the 1985 to 2015 period,we observed a slight increase in the magnitude of 3D building volume growth(i.e.,it increased from 166.02 km3 during the 1985–2000 period to 175.08km3 during the 2000–2015 period),while the expansion magnitudes of the two-dimensional(2D)building footprint(22.51×10^(3) vs 13.29×10^(3)km^(2))and urban extent(157×10^(3) vs 133.8×10^(3)km^(2))notably decreased. This trend highlights the significant increase in intensive vertical utilization of urban land.Furthermore,we identified significant heterogeneity in building space provision and inequality across cities worldwide. This inequality is particularly pronounced in many populous Asian cities, which has been overlooked in previous studies on economic inequality. The GUS-3D dataset shows great potential to deepen our understanding of the urban environment and creates new horizons for numerous 3D urban studies.
文摘To address the problem of multi-missile cooperative interception against maneuvering targets at a prespecified impact time and desired Line-of-Sight(LOS)angles in ThreeDimensional(3D)space,this paper proposes a 3D leader-following cooperative interception guidance law.First,in the LOS direction of the leader,an impact time-controlled guidance law is derived based on the fixed-time stability theory, which enables the leader to complete the interception task at a prespecified impact time.Next,in the LOS direction of the followers,by introducing a time consensus tracking error function,a fixed-time consensus tracking guidance law is investigated to guarantee the consensus tracking convergence of the time-to-go.Then,in the direction normal to the LOS,by combining the designed global integral sliding mode surface and the second-order Sliding Mode Control(SMC)theory,an innovative 3D LOS-angle-constrained interception guidance law is developed, which eliminates the reaching phase in the traditional sliding mode guidance laws and effectively saves energy consumption. Moreover,it effectively suppresses the chattering phenomenon while avoiding the singularity issue, and compensates for unknown interference caused by target maneuvering online, making it convenient for practical engineering applications. Finally, theoretical proof analysis and multiple sets of numerical simulation results verify the effectiveness, superiority, and robustness of the investigated guidance law.

文摘True-triaxial compression tests were carried out on cubic granite samples with a circular through hole using a true-triaxial testing system to investigate the influence of saturated water content(SWC) on the failure process and characteristics of a circular tunnel of surrounding rocks. Therefore, water can reduce the failure severity of surrounding rocks in deep underground engineering, which has a certain guiding significance for the prevention and control of rockbursts.

文摘Due to complex geological structures and a narrow safe mud density window, offshore fractured formations frequently encounter severe lost circulation(LC)during drilling, significantly hindering oil and gas exploration and development.Predicting LC risks enables the targeted implementation of mitigation strategies, thereby reducing the frequency of such incidents. To address the limitations of existing 3D geomechanical modeling in predicting LC,such as arbitrary factor selection, subjective weight assignment, and the inability to achieve pre-drilling prediction along the entire well section,an improved prediction method is proposed. This method integrates multi-source data and incorporates three LC-related sensitivity factors:fracture characteristics, rock brittleness, and in-situ stress conditions.A quantitative risk assessment model for LC is developed by combining the subjective analytic hierarchy process with the objective entropy weight method(EWM)to assign weights.Subsequently,3D geomechanical modeling is applied to identify regional risk zones, enabling digital visualization for pre-drilling risk prediction. The developed 3D LC risk prediction model was validated using actual LC incidents from drilled wells. Results were generally consistent with field-identified LC zones, with an average relative error of 19.08%,confirming its reliability. This method provides practical guidance for mitigating potential LC risks and optimizing drilling program designs in fractured formations.

文摘A three-dimensional conjugate tooth surface design method for Harmonic Drive with a double-circular-arc tooth profle is proposed. It clearly demonstrates exceptional transmission performance.
文摘Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas, however, its occurrence rate is still rare compared to other cancers.Due to its rarity,in vitro experiments are an essential approach to elucidate liposarcoma pathobiology.Conventional cell culture-based research(2D cell culture)is still playing a pivotal role, while several shortcomings have been recently under discussion. In vivo, mouse models are usually adopted for pre-clinical analyses with expectations to overcome the issues of 2D cell culture. However, they do not fully recapitulate human dedifferentiated liposarcoma(DDLPS)characteristics.Therefore,three-dimensional(3D)culture systems have been the recent research focus in the cell biology field with the expectation to overcome at the same time the disadvantages of 2D cell culture and in vivo animal models and fill in the gap between them.Given the liposarcoma rarity,we believe that 3D cell culture techniques, including 3D cell cultures/co-cultures,and Patient-Derived tumor Organoids(PDOs),represent a promising approach to facilitate liposarcoma investigation and elucidate its molecular mechanisms and effective therapy development. In this review,we first provide a general overview of 3D cell cultures compared to 2D cell cultures. We then focus on one of the recent 3D cell culture applications,Patient-Derived Organoids(PDOs),summarizing and discussing several PDO methodologies. Finally,we discuss the current and future applications of PDOs to sarcoma, particularly in the field of liposarcoma.
文摘The development of minimally invasive surgery has transformed the management of gastrointestinal cancer.Notably,three-dimensional visualization systems have increased surgical precision. This editorial discusses a recent study by Shen and Zhang, which compared the clinical applications of naked-eye threedimensional laparoscopic systems vs traditional optical systems in radical surgery for gastric and colorectal cancer. Both systems appeared to yield comparable surgical and oncological outcomes in terms of safety parameters, operating times, and quality of lymph node dissection. However, the spectacle-free system’s technical and logistical limitations hindered its effects on the surgical team’s overall competency. This editorial examines the authors’findings within the broader context of the evolution of oncologic laparoscopy, discusses the relevance of the results in light of the current literature, and proposes future research directions focused on multicenter validation, comprehensive ergonomic analysis, and technological advancements aimed at enhancing intraoperative collaboration. As technology continues to evolve, clinical implementation of new methods must be supported by robust scientific evidence and standardized criteria,to ensure tangible improvements in efficiency, safety, and oncologic outcomes.

文摘During drilling operations in deep fractured tight gas reservoirs, lost circulation of working fluid frequently occurs due to the formationʼs low pressure-bearing capacity.Adding lost circulation materials(LCMs)to drilling fluids is the most common method for controlling lost circulation.Among these, granular LCMs are widely used, but the application frequency of flaky LCMs has been increasing annually due to their unique morphology. However, the migration and plugging behavior of flaky LCMs within fractures, and the mechanisms enhancing the pressure-bearing capacity of the plugging zone are not well understood. Therefore, this study conducted visual plugging experiments and dynamic fracture plugging experiments to evaluate the plugging mode and pressure-bearing capacity of the plugging slurry with various particle sizes and concentrations of flaky LCMs.The experimental results demonstrate that the fracture plugging process can be divided into four stages:uniform flow stage of the plugging slurry, formation and development stage of the bridging area, formation and development stage of the plugging area, and pressure-bearing stage of the plugging zone. The inclusion of flaky LCMs notably reduces the duration of stages 1 and 2,while simultaneously increasing the proportion of the plugging zone and enhancing its surface porosity.Flaky LCMs reduce the effective fracture width through“interception”and“co-bridging”modes,thus improving plugging zone formation efficiency.Appropriate particle size and concentration of flaky LCMs increase the area and length of the plugging zone. This reduces the fracture width increment caused by injection pressure and enhances frictional force between the plugging zone and fracture surface, thereby improving the pressure-bearing capacity of the plugging zone. However, excessively high concentrations of flaky LCMs result in decreased structural stability of the plugging zone, and excessively large particle sizes increase the risk of plugging outside fracture inlet. The recommended concentration of flaky LCMs in the plugging slurry is 2%–3%,with a particle size 1.2 to 1.5 times that of the bridging granular LCMs and not exceeding twice the fracture width. This study provides a theoretical foundation for selecting LCMs and designing plugging formulations for field applications.
