There are a number of positive changes compared to the original text, but some shortcomings still exist. For instan... China's Amendment to the Criminal Procedure Law of 2012 revises the provisions on rules of evidence. There are a number of positive changes compared to the original text, but some shortcomings still exist. For instance, although the legislation recognizes the right against compulsory self-incrimination, it does not acknowledge the right to silence and retains the obligation of the accused to confess; the amended provisions are more tolerant of the use of illegal tactics like "threats," "enticement" and "deceit" to obtain confessions; the legislative approach does not resolutely deter unlawful search and seizure in the collection of evidence; and although there are provisions for protection of persona/safety, financial compensation and judicial sanctions to ensure that witnesses appear before court to testify, there are no provisions on the most important rule in the evidence system, the hearsay rule. 展开更多

Seed germination is associated with grain yield and quality in crop production.Gibberellic acid(GA)serves as a major phytohormone in the promotion of seed germination.It is synthesized in the embryos and transmitted to the aleurone layers,where GA triggers the synthesis and secretion of a set of hydrolases,especiallyα-amylase.Subsequently,the storage nutrients such as starch in the endosperm are digested by these hydrolases and absorbed by the embryo to sustain seed germination and early seedling establishment(Kaneko et al,2002).The detailed GA biosynthesis process has been well studied and thoroughly reviewed in several literatures(Sakamoto et al,2004;Reinecke et al,2013).Briefly,geranylgeranyl diphosphate(GGDP)is turned into ent-kaurene by two terpene synthases,ent-copalyl diphosphate synthase(CPS)and ent-kaurene synthase(KS).Subsequently,the conversion of GA precursor ent-kaurene to ent-kaurenoic acid is catalyzed by ent-kaurene oxidase(KO),and that from ent-kaurenoic acid to GA12 is catalyzed by ent-kaurenoic acid oxidase(KAO).Ultimately,GA12 is converted to various GA intermediates and bioactive GAs by GA20-oxidase(GA20ox)and GA3-oxidase(GA3ox),respectively. 展开更多

Potato invertase inhibitor(StInvInh2)positively regulates cold-induced sweetening(CIS)resistance by inhibiting the activity of vacuolar invertase.The distinct expression patterns of StInvInh2 have been thoroughly characterized in different potato genotypes,but the related CIS ability has not been characterized.The understanding of the regulatory mechanisms that control StInvInh2 transcription is unclear.In this study,we identified an ERF‐Ⅶ transcription factor,StRAP2.3,that directly regulates StInvInh2 to positively modulate CIS resistance.Acting as a nuclear-localized transcriptional activator,StRAP2.3 directly binds the ACCGAC cis-element in the promoter region of StInvInh2,enabling promoter activity.Overexpression of StRAP2.3 in CIS-sensitive potato tubers induced StInvInh2 mRNA abundance and increased CIS resistance.In contrast,silencing StRAP2.3 in CIS-resistant potato tubers repressed the expression of StInvInh2 and decreased CIS resistance.We conclude that cold-responsive StInvInh2 is due to the binding of StRAP2.3 to the ACCGAC cis-element in the promoter region of StInvInh2.Overall,these findings indicate that StRAP2.3 directly regulates StInvInh2 to positively modulate CIS resistance,which may provide a strategy to improve the processing quality of potatoes. 展开更多

A new space era is bringing deployments of thousands of networked assets in near-Earth and deep-space.Delay-Tolerant Networking(DTN)protocols and algorithms such as Contact Graph Routing(CGR)are state-of-the-art technologies certainly capable of achieving this ambitious objective.Nevertheless,in this paper,we highlight and analyze the roots of current scalability limits of CGR,to then propose more efficient alternatives.In particular,we leverage a different graph modeling approach that enables optimizations such as priority queues and spanning-tree searches in the core route determination process.While such abstract data types are difficult to adapt to CGR,we incorporate them into a novel Shortest-Path Tree Approach for Routing in Space Networks(SPSN),which is presented as a compute-efficient alternative.This paper thoroughly describes the SPSN approach including route object modeling,capacity-oriented search,and potential route management techniques.Prototype evaluations analyzed in this paper present significant evidence that SPSN outperforms legacy CGR in more than an order of magnitude in contact plans comprising thousands of contacts. 展开更多

Computational bioacoustics is a relatively young research area,yet it has increasingly received attention over the last decade because it can be used in a wide range of appli-cations in a cost-effective manner.This work focuses on the problem of detecting the novel bird calls and songs associated with various species and individual birds.To this end,variational autoencoders,consisting of deep encoding-decoding networks,are employed.The encoder encompasses a series of convolutional layers leading to a smooth high-level abstraction of log-Mel spectrograms that characterise bird vocalisations.The decoder operates on this latent representation to generate each respective original observation.Novel species/individual detection is carried out by monitoring and thresholding the expected reconstruction probability.We thoroughly evaluate the pro-posed method on two different data sets,including the vocalisations of 11 North American bird species and 16 Athene noctua individuals. 展开更多

A study is conducted on the performances of a solar powered continuous-adsorption refrigerator considering two particular days as references cases,namely,the summer solstice(June 21st)and the autumn equinox(September 21st).The cooling capacity,system performance coefficient and the daily rate of available cooling energy are assessed.The main goal is to compare the performances of a solar adsorption chiller equipped with a hot water tank(HWT)with an equivalent system relying on solar collectors with no heat storage module.The daily cooling rates for the solar refrigerator are found to be 102.4 kWh and 74.3 kWh,respectively,on June 21st and on September 21st,using a total collector’s area of 43.47 m2.The corresponding values for the adsorption chiller equipped with a hot water tank of 2 m3(and using a total collector’s area of 72.45 m2),are 127.1 kWh and 106.13 kWh,respectively. 展开更多

Structural variants(SVs)are a type of genetic variation that contribute substantially to phenotypic diversity and evolution.Further study of SVs will help us understand the influence of SVs associated with tea quality and stress resistance and provide new insight into tea plant breeding improvement and genetic research.However,SVs have not been thoroughly discovered in the tea plant genomes.Herein,we constructed a large-scale SV map across a population of 107 resequenced genomes,including both ancient and cultivated tea plants.A total of 44,240 highconfident SVs were identified,including 34,124 DEL(deletions),4,448 DUP(duplications),2,503 INV(inversions),544 INS(insertions)and 2,621 TRA(translocations).In total,12,400 protein-coding genes were overlapped with SVs,of which 49.5%were expressed in all five tea tissues.SVbased analysis of phylogenetic relationships and population structure in tea plants showed a consistent evolutionary history with the SNP-based results.We also identified SVs subject to artificial selection and found that genes under domestication were enriched in metabolic pathways involving theanine and purine alkaloids,biosynthesis of monoterpenoid,phenylpropanoid,fatty acid,and isoflavonoid,contributing to traits of agronomic interest in tea plants.In addition,a total of 27 terpene synthase(TPS)family genes were selected during domestication.These results indicate that these SVs could provide extensive genomic information for tea quality improvement. 展开更多

A thorough investigation have been first carried out on the electron trans- ferring between molecules by using the ab initio electrostatic potential method.By this method,we made a theoretical estimation of the energy barrier that electrons tunnel when they move from one molecule to another.The results show that for two molecules very close to each other the height of the barrier goes down exponentially with a decreasing intermolecular distance.Substituting groups have effect on the height of the barrier. Medical education is an important cornerstone for the development of healthcare,and medical humanities education,as an integral part of medical education,plays an irreplaceable role in cultivating people’s health guardians with high medical ethics.We adopted the method of stratified random sampling to select 309 students and 107 faculty members from three independent medical colleges in Sichuan province as the research subjects and distributed questionnaire surveys investigating in three dimensions:overall cognition of medical humanities,evaluation of medical humanistic qualities,and the current situation of medical humanities education,supplemented by an in-depth literature review and interviews with subject matter experts.We found that“tech-centrism”still has a great influence,the self-evaluation of medical students’humanistic quality is generally not high,the educational concept of“emphasizing professional skills over morality”of faculty and staff is still quite prevalent,and there is still the“last mile”phenomenon in medical humanities education.In order to promote the integrated development of“new medicine”and“new liberal arts”and break the barriers of“tech-centrism”and“instrumental rationality,”it is necessary to change the educational concept and strengthen the education of all employees,break through the bottleneck of internships and strengthen the whole process of education,integrate educational resources and strengthen all-round education,improve the incentive mechanisms,strengthen the assessment methods,and provide Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions for the development of medical humanities education. 展开更多
