However, the prevalence of the ...Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) still causes significant morbidity and mortality amongst adults and children despite all the efforts which have been put into the control of the disease. However, the prevalence of the disease in school age children is unknown because of scarcity of TB screening surveys in Nigerian schools. The aim of this study was to evaluate the proportion of school age children treated for TB in the Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTS) clinic of University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH). Methods: The records of all children 6 to 18 years who were treated in the DOTS clinic from 2011 to 2014 were reviewed. Information sought included age, sex, sputum Acid Fast Bacillus (AFB) status, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) status and treatment outcome. Results: One hundred and forty children aged 6 to 18 years were treated in the University Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital DOTS clinic, representing 41.79% of childhood TB cases seen over the study period. Seventy one (50.71%) patients were males and 69 (49.29%) were females. Their mean age was 12 ± 3.86. Thirty-one (22.14%) had smear positive TB. Sputum smear positivity was commonest (54.84%) among those who were 16 years and above compared to the other age groups and this is statistically significant (x2 = 17.72, p = 0.001). Forty-one (35%) patients were HIV positive and 6 (4.29%) were positive for both HIV and AFB. Ninety (64.29%) patients recovered fully following treatment, 48 (34.29%) were referred to other DOTS centres and 2 (1.43%) died. Gender, age group, AFB and HIV status showed no relationship with treatment outcome. Conclusion: School age children 6 to 18 years made up a large proportion of childhood TB cases seen within the study period in the DOTS clinic. More than one third of them were HIV/TB co-infected. An effective School Health Services should be established in schools in Port Harcourt to curb the spread of TB and other communicable diseases within the schools.展开更多

This study investigated the capacity building needs for manual and computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting for entrepreneurship in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.The study was conducted and guided by two rese...This study investigated the capacity building needs for manual and computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting for entrepreneurship in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.The study was conducted and guided by two research questions and two hypotheses.This study adopted an ex-post facto research design.The population for the study consisted of 131 Home Economics lecturers from the Universities,Polytechnic,and Colleges of Education in South East Nigeria.The entire population was studied because of its manageable size,hence there was no sampling.The results of this study showed that the Home Economics lecturers are competent in drafting patterns using manual method.Technical skills required for lecturers of Home Economics to advance from manual to computer-assisted teaching of pattern drafting were identified.They include ability to grade patterns,ability to use software packages,and ability to discuss procedures of pattern drafting among others.Based on the findings,it was recommended among others that computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting should be incorporated and applied by Home Economics lecturers to ensure that students acquire technical skills that will enable them to enter into entrepreneurship.展开更多

Objective:To investigate the effectiveness of standardized patient scenario simulation teaching in geriatric medicine clinical education and provide references for improving teaching methods in geriatrics.Methods:Sixt...Objective:To investigate the effectiveness of standardized patient scenario simulation teaching in geriatric medicine clinical education and provide references for improving teaching methods in geriatrics.Methods:Sixty-five clinical physicians from other departments who rotated into the Geriatric Medicine Department for training between August 2024 and July 2025 were randomly divided into a control group(n=32)and an observation group(n=33).The control group received traditional centralized theoretical lectures combined with instructor-led clinical mentoring,while the observation group underwent standardized patient scenario simulation training.The two groups were compared on post-rotation examination scores and teaching satisfaction metrics.Results:The observation group achieved significantly higher post-rotation examination scores(88.37±3.04)than the control group(80.17±3.29)(p<0.01).Teaching satisfaction surveys revealed that trainees in the observation group demonstrated significantly higher satisfaction than the control group(p<0.05)regarding the teaching method’s effectiveness in enhancing learning interest,independent learning ability,comprehensive clinical problem-solving skills,patient communication skills,teamwork capabilities,and research conceptualization abilities.Conclusion:Standardized patient scenario simulation teaching effectively improves clinical teaching quality in geriatric medicine,enhances trainees’comprehensive clinical competencies,and holds value for broader application.展开更多

文摘As new-generation intelligent technologies rapidly evolve,enhancing artificial intelligence(AI)education has become a global consensus,and improving AI literacy is a key focus in higher education.To address the lack of relevant knowledge among non-computer science students,the complexity of the material,which leads to low interest and high difficulty in learning,this paper proposes a three-pronged teaching design model:“BOPPPS model+large language models(LLMs)+mind maps with 3w2h”.This model aims to assist teachers in designing practical teaching cases and engaging,interactive activities,and provides examples of its application to help teachers better teach AI and improve the AI literacy of non-computer science students.

文摘The development of a new round of artificial intelligence(AI)science and technology provided good technical support and condition guarantee for college English teaching,but it also brought new challenges.It is necessary and inevitable for English teaching to experience reform and innovation.China’s AI digital teaching transformation is in the exploratory stage,and AI teaching mode has become the focus of future teaching development.Herein we propose a research method of integrating AI tools in college English teaching to adapt to the personalized learning of the new generation of college students,make the teaching process efficiently integrate the tide of the development of AI,promote the development of education evaluation system more accurately,and provide theoretical and data references for college English teaching reform.

文摘With the increasingly prominent trend of globalization,English,as the common language of international communication,plays an increasingly important role in university education.As a key link in English teaching,the college English audio-visual oral course not only imparts language knowledge and skills,but also shoulders the important task of cultivating students’critical thinking.As one of the essential core qualities of modern talents,critical thinking ability plays an irreplaceable role in students’in-depth understanding of English knowledge,improving intercultural communication ability and cultivating innovative thinking.This paper expounds the significance of cultivating students’critical thinking ability in college English audio-visual and oral teaching,and puts forward a series of innovative teaching strategies to cultivate students’critical thinking ability combined with practical teaching experience and cutting-edge education theory,in order to provide new ideas and practical guidance for the improvement of college English teaching quality and the development of students’comprehensive quality.

文摘This study investigated the capacity building needs for manual and computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting for entrepreneurship in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.The study was conducted and guided by two research questions and two hypotheses.This study adopted an ex-post facto research design.The population for the study consisted of 131 Home Economics lecturers from the Universities,Polytechnic,and Colleges of Education in South East Nigeria.The entire population was studied because of its manageable size,hence there was no sampling.The results of this study showed that the Home Economics lecturers are competent in drafting patterns using manual method.Technical skills required for lecturers of Home Economics to advance from manual to computer-assisted teaching of pattern drafting were identified.They include ability to grade patterns,ability to use software packages,and ability to discuss procedures of pattern drafting among others.Based on the findings,it was recommended among others that computer assisted teaching of pattern drafting should be incorporated and applied by Home Economics lecturers to ensure that students acquire technical skills that will enable them to enter into entrepreneurship.
文摘This paper aims at strengthening teachers’understanding as well as optimizing future curriculum design of ESP(Eng⁃lish Specific Purpose).According to the literature ESP is one of the means for language learning and teaching,which is based on learners’needs.By adopting needs analysis,teachers are able to deeply and appropriately understand the needs from students and the real-life settings like working places in society.According to the three cases that have been reviewed,there are always discrep⁃ancies between teaching and learning in the classroom,and the real-life needs of job requirements in society.Combining the curric⁃ulum design of ESP and the method of needs analysis is an effective way to close the discrepancy.

文摘This study investigated the status quo and further improvement needs of foreign language teachers’teaching competence in curriculum-based ideological education(CIE)in Xinjiang colleges and universities.The results show that the teachers’teaching competence in CIE is generally good,with the“cultivating quality”being the highest and the“scientific research quality”the lowest;there still exist several problems,such as teachers’lack of theoretical knowledge in CIE,lack of teaching resources,and insufficient abilities in teaching design and research.It is hoped that with the support and efforts from university administrations,teachers can improve their teaching competence in CIE through various approaches adopted and multiple measures taken,thus optimizing their teaching effectiveness,promoting the construction of CIE in Xinjiang colleges and universities in the new era,and contributing to Xinjiang’s high-quality development.
文摘Teaching and research activities are of great significance to the professional development of teachers.The basic psychological needs of teachers include autonomy,competence,and attribution.The engagement of teachers in teaching and research activities can be analyzed from these three perspectives.Under the management system of teaching and research,teachers generally lack autonomy in the organization of teaching and research activities;they are also lack scientific research knowledge and ability;in addition,under the influence of harmonious interpersonal relationships and the culture of individualism,there is a dearth in real communication among teachers.In light of this,we propose targeted countermeasures to promote the vitality of teaching and research activities.
文摘The disconnection between teaching,learning,and evaluation is particularly pronounced in traditional high school chemistry teaching.To align with the demands of the new curriculum standards for talent development,it is essential to implement reforms and innovations in teaching methods.This paper initially elucidates the integrated concept of teaching,learning,and evaluation,as well as its practical significance in the classroom.Subsequently,it explores the effective teaching design centered on the theme of iron and its compounds,actively investigating the implementation approach of the integration principle of teaching,learning,and evaluation in classroom.Furthermore,the paper emphasizes the pivotal role of the evaluation part in fostering the professional development of teachers and enhancing the core competencies of students,ultimately aiming to achieve high efficiency and quality in chemistry classroom teaching.

文摘Under the background of competency-based transformation of higher education,bioengineering major urgently needs to solve the problems such as the disconnect between practical teaching and industry needs and the lack of resources.This paper proposed supplementing traditional experimental teaching with video resources to construct a closed-loop model of"theoretical instruction,case analysis,video demonstration,and reflective application".Through the development of instructional videos covering core techniques such as PCR,Western blot,CRISPR-Cas9,cell culture,HPLC,GMP operations,and bioinformatics analysis,teaching costs can be reduced,spatiotemporal constraints can be overcome,and process visualization can be enhanced,thereby supporting students in mastering the entire workflow of modern biomanufacturing.The paper further explored resource development pathways,university-enterprise collaboration mechanisms,and curriculum integration strategies,offering actionable solutions for practical teaching reform.
文摘Objective:To investigate the effectiveness of standardized patient scenario simulation teaching in geriatric medicine clinical education and provide references for improving teaching methods in geriatrics.Methods:Sixty-five clinical physicians from other departments who rotated into the Geriatric Medicine Department for training between August 2024 and July 2025 were randomly divided into a control group(n=32)and an observation group(n=33).The control group received traditional centralized theoretical lectures combined with instructor-led clinical mentoring,while the observation group underwent standardized patient scenario simulation training.The two groups were compared on post-rotation examination scores and teaching satisfaction metrics.Results:The observation group achieved significantly higher post-rotation examination scores(88.37±3.04)than the control group(80.17±3.29)(p<0.01).Teaching satisfaction surveys revealed that trainees in the observation group demonstrated significantly higher satisfaction than the control group(p<0.05)regarding the teaching method’s effectiveness in enhancing learning interest,independent learning ability,comprehensive clinical problem-solving skills,patient communication skills,teamwork capabilities,and research conceptualization abilities.Conclusion:Standardized patient scenario simulation teaching effectively improves clinical teaching quality in geriatric medicine,enhances trainees’comprehensive clinical competencies,and holds value for broader application.
