Purpose: This study aimed to develop teaching materials to prevent the dangers of ablution and bathing infants, based on the dangerous experiences of mothers and family members, and examine their appropriateness. Meth...Purpose: This study aimed to develop teaching materials to prevent the dangers of ablution and bathing infants, based on the dangerous experiences of mothers and family members, and examine their appropriateness. Methods: A total of 20 midwives and public health nurses were selected as participants. Teaching materials and anonymous self-administered questionnaires were distributed, and the participants were asked to view the teaching materials and fill in the questionnaires. Retrieval was done by mail. The teaching materials included digital content, such as videos, sounds, and characters, which incorporated dangerous situations, preventions, and innovations in ablution and bathing procedures. The analysis was conducted by simple tabulation for each survey item. The free description was coded to preserve anonymity. This study was conducted with the approval of the Research Ethics Review Board of the authors’ affiliated university. Results: The teaching materials were found to be appropriate in terms of suitability to purpose, degree of difficulty of content, ease of viewing the videos, validity of time, appropriateness of expression, and usability. Conclusions: Ablution teaching materials that are used at the present time do not focus on dangers, and to date, no resources on bathing have been used as teaching materials. The created teaching materials in this study can be viewed multiple times, and mothers and family members who are unfamiliar with ablution and bathing can acquire knowledge regarding dangers and danger prevention. The addition of specific preventive measures and countermeasures for the occurrence of danger, along with practice, would result in the development of further appropriate teaching materials to reduce danger and alleviate anxiety.展开更多

Descriptive geometry is very important and recognized as a basic skill and knowledge for mechanical engineering student. In this study, PC-based electronic teaching/learning materials for descriptive geometry are crea...Descriptive geometry is very important and recognized as a basic skill and knowledge for mechanical engineering student. In this study, PC-based electronic teaching/learning materials for descriptive geometry are created using Flash, which is a typical animation creator. Furthermore, several axonometric representations, created by 3D-CAD, SolidWorks, for 3D objects are auxiliary materials to promote understanding of descriptive geometry. The axonometric representations in 3D-CAD are also dynamic, in other words, a viewpoint can be moved free. The movement of 3D model in a PC monitor can be recorded using a normal function of SolidWorks and replayed by typical animation software. The developed materials are excellent at accuracy of drawing, repeatability of self-study and visual attraction in comparison to oral presentation using still image and inaccurate drawing on a textbook or blackboard in a classroom. Actually, questionnaire survey results present favorable impressions from student-users, although they point out the further improvement in the replaying speed. The replaying speed can be controlled easily by using a normal function of Flash. In addition, usual playback software for animation has functions of pause and replay on demand and, thus, it is not contro-versial.展开更多
This paper examines the grain of content in junior high mathematics digital textbooks from People’s Education Press(PEP)using Cognitive Load Theory(CLT)in a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design:(1)bibliometric...This paper examines the grain of content in junior high mathematics digital textbooks from People’s Education Press(PEP)using Cognitive Load Theory(CLT)in a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design:(1)bibliometric analysis of 2008–2023142 publications found substantial gaps in cognitive-aligned pedagogical design;then,(2)large-scale surveys of 231 teachers and 102 students found critical gaps in navigation intuitiveness(71.3%),interactive affordance deficiency(68.9%),and personal pathway rigidity(76.5%).(3)Interviews with 6 teachers and 3 developers further revealed these deficiencies lay in:(1)content fragmentation serving procedural skills at the expense of conceptual integration;(2)sequence disruption violating CLT’s intrinsic load tenets;and(3)passive multimodal serving static text/images(82%of resources)limiting germane processing.We thus innovated a CLT-driven framework to reduce intrinsic load by animating schema builders chunking complex concepts,minimize extraneous load by Gestalt-principled UI redesign serving spatial consistency,and enhance germane load by adaptive analytics serving personal pathways.Empirical results showed 34%more knowledge retention(p<0.01,d=1.87)and 28%less perceived cognitive load(NASA-TLX)relative to conventional textbooks.Our work contributed both a theoretically grounded resource optimization model and an advancement of CLT in technology-enhanced mathematics instruction.展开更多

The paper introduces initial notions on applying linguistic criteria as the basic ones in the process of creating ME textbooks. Through the historical development and under the influence of extra linguistic factors （globalization of the shipping industry, in particular）, ME has accumulated and stored various resources being in current use： vocabulary, grammar and phonology, operational and semiotic systems, specific means of communication, functional models, patterns of narration and description, etc..
