As world events have morphed teachers’roles within English medium of instruction(EMI)contexts to incorporate more online teaching practices, teachers’integration of digital tools has faced technological and curricular challenges. While previous research has examined the integration of digital tools in face-to-face and hybrid EMI settings(e.g.,Finardi,2015;O’Dowd,2018),more research is needed to understand the familiarization process teachers engage in as they implement fully-online teaching to support their content and language integrated learning(CLIL)teaching. As part of a larger project, this case study sets out to fill this gap by examining the practices and perspectives of 30 Kazakhstani university teachers who adopted CLIL approaches while needing to adapt to fully-online teaching contexts.Using the concept of technological pedagogical content knowledge(Mishra&Koehler,2006)in tandem with Ball et al.’s(2016)seven CLIL principles as a framework, this study thematically analyzed workshop artifacts, survey responses,semi-structured interview transcripts, and videos from online class lessons to find that teachers were mediators and curators of content, language, pedagogy, and digital tools. The findings offer pedagogical insights for the implementation of professional development(PD)to prepare teachers to meaningfully curate and mediate technology into their CLIL pedagogy to teach content within EMI contexts. 展开更多

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI)technology, its application in higher education has gradually shifted from traditional teaching aids to deeper levels of interactive learning and emotional connection support.AI can enhance teaching efficiency, personalized learning, and real-time feedback;however,in areas such as emotional communication and teacher-student interaction,AI still cannot fully replace the role of teachers. This study aims to explore the transformation of teacher-student relationships in the era of AI,analyze the impact of AI technology on teaching interaction, emotional support, and teacher-student trust, and propose strategies to address these challenges. The research findings indicate that while AI has significant advantages in improving educational efficiency,it has limitations in interpersonal emotional support and the transformation of the teacher’s role.To ensure the comprehensiveness and humanization of education, educators should strengthen emotional care and improve students’emotional literacy in the use of AI,and implement transparent data management and privacy protection measures to enhance teacher-student trust. The study also suggests that by enhancing teacher-student trust, strengthening emotional support, and increasing transparency, educators can effectively address the challenges of teacher-student relationships in the AI era. This research provides theoretical support and practical guidance for the integration of AI technology with educational humanistic care, promoting more comprehensive, personalized, and humane educational development. 展开更多

Student engagement in learning is a concern for teachers in the implementation of blended learning, which reflects the effectiveness of the pedagogical measures taken by teachers.Blended learning encompasses traditional blended, blended online, and blended synchronous, which combine synchronous and asynchronous teaching and learning activities. This paper adopts an inductive approach to investigate and analyse students‘engagement in learning from three dimensions:behavioural, affective and cognitive, specifically focusing on three meta-categories,namely,course structure and arrangement, choice of teaching and learning activities, and teacher’s role in relation to the course,to investigate the teaching of teachers of different disciplines in three vocational colleges and to analyse the pedagogical strategies that the teachers use in order to improve students’engagement in blended learning. The findings suggest that communicating about the course at the beginning of the semester, clarifying course requirements, and building a trusting relationship with students play a key role in increasing student engagement in blended learning, and that the use of digital tools is an important means of promoting students’behavioural and emotional active participation in learning. 展开更多
