In Cote d’Ivoire, they are commonly known as “bissap” and are of great interest to local people, who use them to make an eponymous herbal tea. This drink has potential medicinal and nutritional value (Khan et al., 2022). Nine (9) samples of dried flowers of the plant, packaged in 3 g sachets of a local Kuinafo brand, were used for physico-chemical analyses. Heavy metals, mineral salts, ash and moisture content were determined using methods adapted from the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC). The results showed the presence of heavy metals at levels whose intake should take into account the weight of the consumer in the case of mercury and arsenic (0.5 mg/Kg and 0.7 mg/Kg respectively). Apart from lead, whose level was not compliant (1.310 mg/Kg for a CSHPF standard of 0.5 mg/Kg), cadmium had a regulatory level (0.18 mg/Kg for a CSHPF standard of 0.20 mg/Kg). Nutrient intakes were significant (calcium, iron and potassium respectively at 1.79 g/100g;17.27 mg/100g and 1.76 g/100g of dried Hibiscus sabdarrifa flowers) and the moisture content suggested that the dried flowers were better preserved. The study of the physico-chemical characteristics of Hibiscus sabdarrifa flowers has enabled us to highlight the importance of quality control and the need to prevent any adverse effects on consumer health.展开更多

文摘Background:Ampelopsis grossedentata, vine tea, which is the tea alternative beverages in China. In vine tea processing,a large amount of broken tea is produced, which has low commercial value. Methods:This study investigates the influence of different extraction methods(room temperature water extraction, boiling water extraction,ultrasonic-assisted room temperature water extraction, and ultrasonic-assisted boiling water extraction, referred to as room temperature water extraction(RE),boiling water extraction(BE),ultrasonic assistance at room temperature water extraction(URE),and ultrasonic assistance in boiling water extraction(UBE))on the yield, dihydromyricetin(DMY)content, free amino acid composition, volatile aroma components, and antioxidant properties of vine tea extracts. Results:A notable influence of extraction temperature on the yield of vine tea extracts(P<0.05),with BE yielding the highest at 43.13±0.26%,higher than that of RE(34.29±0.81%).Ultrasound-assisted extraction significantly increased the DMY content of the extracts(P<0.05),whereas DMY content in the RE extracts was 59.94±1.70%,that of URE reached 66.14±2.78%.Analysis revealed 17 amino acids, with L-serine and aspartic acid being the most abundant in the extracts, nevertheless ultrasound-assisted extraction reduced total free amino acid content.Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis demonstrated an increase in the diversity and quantity of compounds in the vine tea water extracts obtained through ultrasonic-assisted extraction.Specifically,69 and 68 volatile compounds were found in URE and UBE extracts, which were higher than the number found in RE and BE extracts. In vitro, antioxidant activity assessments revealed varying antioxidant capacities among different extraction methods, with RE exhibiting the highest DPPH scavenging rate,URE leading in ABTS•+free radical scavenging, and BE demonstrating superior ferric ion reducing antioxidant activity. Conclusion:The findings suggest that extraction methods significantly influence the chemical composition and antioxidant properties of vine tea extracts.Ultrasonic-assisted extraction proved instrumental in elevating the DMY content in vine tea extracts, thereby enriching its flavor profile while maintaining its antioxidant properties.

文摘Pu-erh tea has been shown to reduce gut inflammation in dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced mice. Also,we found abnormal liver cholesterol metabolism in DSS-induced mice. However,it's not clear how Pu-erh tea improves DSS-induced impaired liver cholesterol metabolism. Here,we established the DSS-induced model and clarified that DSS exacerbated gut inflammation accompanied by disorders of liver cholesterol metabolism.Pu-erh tea reshaped gut microbes, limited gut oxidative stress and inflammation(nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase 2/reactive oxygen species/myeloid differentiation primary response protein 88/nuclear factor kappa-B,24.97%-52.89%),reduced gut bile acid reabsorption(up-regulation of farnesoid X receptor(FXR)/fibroblast growth factor 15,24.53%-55.91%),and promoted liver bile acid synthesis(up-regulation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α/cholesterol 7-alpha hydroxylase,34.65%-79.14%),thereby partly restoring liver cholesterol metabolism(regulated FXR/small heterodimer partner/sterol-regulatory element binding proteins,53.19%-95.40%).Altered bile acid metabolic profiles(increased chenodeoxycholic acid, ursodeoxycholic acid, lithocholic acid, etc.)may also improve liver cholesterol metabolism by altering gut and liver inflammation. Thus, gut microbial reshaping and altered bile acid metabolism may be key targets of Pu-erh tea for improving DSS-induced liver cholesterol metabolism disorders via the gut-gut microbe-bile acid-liver axis.
文摘Hibiscus sabdarrifa flowers are known the world over. The study of the physico-chemical characteristics of Hibiscus sabdarrifa flowers has enabled us to highlight the importance of quality control and the need to prevent any adverse effects on consumer health.
文摘The global incidence of breast cancer remains high and is increasing annually in some regions.Despite the variety of current treatments for breast cancer, the preventive and therapeutic effects are still limited due to the highly heterogeneous nature and complex biological mechanisms of breast cancer. In recent years, tea consumption has emerged as a research focus due to its possible anti-cancer properties.Numerous preclinical studies have demonstrated that regular tea intake could potentially curb the progression of breast cancer by influencing various biological mechanisms, including signaling pathways, cell cycle regulation, and immune system responses, among others.Nonetheless, the findings from epidemiological studies show considerable variability, and the connection between tea drinking and both the risk and outlook for breast cancer is shaped by numerous elements. These include the specific type of tea consumed, the quantity consumed, individual genetic variations, and environmental influences. This article summarizes the current research findings and delves into the connection between tea consumption and the risk as well as the prognosis of breast cancer among different regional populations.Meanwhile,it expounds on the potential molecular biological mechanisms behind it.The aim is to offer a theoretical foundation for the personalized prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
