The system consists of two kinds of units, which are respectively subjected to the deterioration failure described by Gamma process and the random failure described by Poisson process. A two-level opportunistic policy defined by three decision parameters is proposed to coordinate the different maintenance actions and minimize the long-run maintenance cost rate of the system. A computable expression of the average cost rate is established by using the renewal property of the stochastic process of the maintained system state. The optimal values of three deci- sion parameters are derived by an iteration approach based on the characteristic of Gamma process. The behavior of the proposed policy is illustrated through a numerical experiment. Comparative study with the widely used corrective maintenance policy demonstrates the advantage of the proposed opportunistic maintenance method in significantly reducing the maintenance cost. Simultane- ously, the applicable area of this opportunistic model is discussed by the sensitivity analysis of the set-up cost and random failure rate.展开更多

A parallel and time-based task division method is introduced and the multi-task software architecture is built in the software system for electronic unit pump (EUP) system. The V-model software development process is used to control algorithm of each task. The simulation results of the hardware-in-the-loop simulation system (HILSS) and the engine experimental results show that the OS is an efficient real-time kernel, and can meet the real-time demands of EUP system; The built multi-task software system is real-time, determinate and reliable. V-model development is a good development process of control algorithms for EUP system, the control precision of control system can be ensured, and the development cycle and cost are also decreased.展开更多

Modular unit systems provide an eco-friendly advanced construction method that improves productivity and reduces carbon emissions and construction waste. In these systems, the prefabrication ratio of the modules shoul...Modular unit systems provide an eco-friendly advanced construction method that improves productivity and reduces carbon emissions and construction waste. In these systems, the prefabrication ratio of the modules should be high in order to support these eco-friendly features. The purpose of this study was to verify the functionality and driving safety of fixing a modular unit with a high prefabrication ratio to a vehicle for transportation to the site using two novel adapter blocks specially developed for this purpose. When asked to evaluate their performance for this study, the truck drivers selected adaptor block type B as providing the highest convenience and functionality. In real-world driving experiments, maximum loads of 15 kN and 25 kN were measured on adapter block types A and B, respectively. Future improvements in the adapter blocks that take the safety ratio and the improved convenience of use into account are confidently expected to contribute to the eco-friendliness and the improved productivity of modular unit systems.展开更多

Aiming at the shortages of conceptual design, introducing the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) into the mechanical product design for producing innovative ideas, and using the advanced computer-aided technique, the intelligent decision support system (IDSS) based on TRIZ (TRIZ-IDSS) has been constructed. The construction method, system structure, conceptual production, decisionmaking and evaluation of the problem solving subsystem are discussed. The innovative conceptual design of pumping units indicates that the system can help the engineers open up a new space of thinking, overcome the thinking inertia, and put forward innovative design concepts. These calculations are performed using a new wavefunction correlated to Hylleraas-type. The possibility of using the SCUNC method in the investigation of high-lying Doubly Excited States(DES) in two-electron systems is demonstrated in the present work in the case of the (<em>nl</em><sup>2</sup>) <sup>1</sup><em>L</em><sup><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><em>π</em></span></span></span></sup> doubly excited states, where accurate total energies are tabulated up to <em>n</em> = 20. All the results obtained in this paper are in agreement with the values of the available literature and may be useful for future experimental and theoretical studies on the doubly excited (<em>nl</em><sup>2</sup>) <sup>1</sup><em>L</em><sup><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><span style="white-space:nowrap;"><em>π</em></span></span></sup> states of two-electron systems.展开更多
Inspired by the modulation mechanism of neuroendocrine-immune system(NEIs),a novel structure of artificial neural network(ANN) named NEI-NN and its learning method are presented.The NEI-NN includes two parts,i.e.,posi...Inspired by the modulation mechanism of neuroendocrine-immune system(NEIs),a novel structure of artificial neural network(ANN) named NEI-NN and its learning method are presented.The NEI-NN includes two parts,i.e.,positive subnetwork(PSN) and negative sub-network(NSN).The neuron functions of PSN and NSN are designed according to the increased and decreased secretion functions of hormone,respectively.In order to make the novel neural network learn quickly,the novel neuron based on some characteristics of NEIs is also redesigned.Besides the normal input signals,two control signals are considered in the proposed solution.One is the enable/disable signal,and the other is the slope control signal.The former can modify the structure of NEI-NN,and the later can regulate the evolutionary speed of NEINN.The NEI-NN can obtain the optimized network structure by using error back-propagation(BP) learning algorithm.Since the modeling of the beam pumping unit is very difficult by using the conventional method,the modeling of bean bump unit is chosen to examine the performance of the NEI-NN.The experiment results show that the optimized structure and learning speed of NEI-NN are better than those of the conventional neural network.展开更多

For a system with multiple non-identical units, its maintenance requirements ...In the optimal maintenance modeling, all possible maintenance activities and their corresponding probabilities play a key role in modeling. For a system with multiple non-identical units, its maintenance requirements are very complicated, and it is time-consuming, even omission may occur when enumerating them with various combinations of units and even with different maintenance actions for them. Deterioration state space partition (DSSP) method is an efficient approach to analyze all possible maintenance requirements at each maintenance decision point and deduce their corresponding probabilities for maintenance modeling of multi-unit systems. In this paper, an extended DSSP method is developed for systems with multiple non-identical units considering opportunistic, preventive and corrective maintenance activities for each unit. In this method, different maintenance types are distinguished in each maintenance requirement. A new representation of the possible maintenance requirements and their corresponding probabilities is derived according to the partition results based on the joint probability density function of the maintained system deterioration state. Furthermore, focusing on a two-unit system with a non-periodical inspected condition-based opportunistic preventive-maintenance strategy;a long-term average cost model is established using the proposed method to determine its optimal maintenance parameters jointly, in which “hard failure” and non-negligible maintenance time are considered. Numerical experiments indicate that the extended DSSP method is valid for opportunistic maintenance modeling of multi-unit systems.展开更多
This paper presents a new hybrid approach that combines Modified Priority List (MPL) with Charged System Search (CSS), termed MPL-CSS, to solve one of the most crucial power system’s operational optimization problems...This paper presents a new hybrid approach that combines Modified Priority List (MPL) with Charged System Search (CSS), termed MPL-CSS, to solve one of the most crucial power system’s operational optimization problems, known as unit commitment (UC) scheduling. The UC scheduling problem is a mixed-integer nonlinear problem, highly-dimensional and extremely constrained. Existing meta-heuristic UC solution methods have the problems of stopping at a local optimum and slow convergence when applied to large-scale, heavily-constrained UC applications. In the first step of the proposed method, initial hourly optimum solutions of UC are obtained by Modified Priority List (MPL);however, the obtained UC solution may still be possible to be further improved. Therefore, in the second step, the CSS is utilized to achieve higher quality solutions. The UC is formulated as mixed integer linear programming to ensure the tractability of the results. The proposed method is successfully applied to a popular test system up to 100 units generators for both 24-hr and 168-hr system. Computational results show that both solution cost and execution time are superior to those of published methods.展开更多
