Wave information retrieval from videos captured by a single camera has been increasingly applied in marine observation.However,when the camera observes ocean waves at low grazing angles,the accurate extraction of wave...Wave information retrieval from videos captured by a single camera has been increasingly applied in marine observation.However,when the camera observes ocean waves at low grazing angles,the accurate extraction of wave information from videos will be affected by the interference of the fine ripples on the sea surface.To solve this problem,this study develops a method for estimating peak wave periods from videos captured at low grazing angles.The method extracts the motion of the sea surface texture from the video and obtains the peak wave period via the spectral analysis.The calculation results captured from real-world videos are compared with those obtained from X-band radar inversion and tracking buoy movement,with maximum deviations of 8%and 14%,respectively.The analysis of the results shows that the peak wave period of the method has good stability.In addition,this paper uses a pinhole camera model to convert the displacement of the texture from pixel height to actual height and performs moving average filtering on the displacement of the texture,thus conducting a preliminary exploration of the inversion of significant wave height.This study helps to extend the application of sea surface videos.展开更多
Surface textures had long been recognized as primary factors to provide the skid resistance on pavements; however, no measurement of skid resistance on pervious concrete pavement with various surface texture parameter...Surface textures had long been recognized as primary factors to provide the skid resistance on pavements; however, no measurement of skid resistance on pervious concrete pavement with various surface texture parameters had been made. Fractal geometry was introduced in the present work to accurately simulate transect contour curves of pervious concrete specimens through fractal interpolation. It is proved that its fractal dimension (D) can be adopted to measure the skid resistance on pervious concrete pavement, overcoming the shortcomings of both macrotexture depth (DT ) and British portable pendulum number (NBP). Combined with Fujikawa-Koike tire/road contact model, the optimization method of all surface textures was recommended for designing and constructing excellently skid-resistant and noise-absorptive pervious concrete pavement. In addition, evaluating of the abrasion process and attenuation of the surface textures on concrete pavement slabs was also the focus of this work based on accelerated abrasion test. Results show that the surface textures on pervious concrete pavement slabs is extremely durable, compared to those on conventional grooved or exposed aggregate concrete pavement slabs.展开更多

However,the mechanisms through which textured patterns and texturing methods prove beneficial remains unclear. To address this issue,the tribological system of the cylinder liner?piston ring(CLPR) is investigated in this work. Two types of surface textures(Micro concave,Micro V?groove) are processed on the cylinder specimen using di erent processing methods. Comparative study on the friction coe cients,worn surface texture features and oil film characteristics are performed. The results demonstrate that the processing method of surface texture a ect the performance of the CLPR pairs under the specific testing conditions. In addition the micro V?groove processed by CNCPM is more favorable for improving the wear performances at the low load,while the micro?con?cave processed by CE is more favorable for improving the wear performances at the high load. These findings are in helping to understand the e ect of surface texture on wear performance of CLPR.展开更多

Parameters of the 2-5 order Gauss-MRF models for 300 wood samples' surface texture are also estimated by using LMS. The data analysis shows that: 1) different rexture parameters have a clear scattered distribution, 2) the main direction of texture is the direction represented by the maximum parameter of Gauss-MRF parameters, and 3) for those samples having the same main direction, the finer the texture is, the greater the corresponding parameter is, and the smaller the other parameters are; and the higher the order of Gauss-MRF is, the more clearly the texture is described. On the condition of the second order Gauss MRF model, parameter B1, B2 of tangential texture are smaller than that of radial texture, while B3 and B4 of tangential texture are greater than that of radial texture. According to the value of separated criterion, the parameter of the fifth order Gauss-MRF is used as feature vector for Hamming neural network classification. As a result, the ratio of correctness reaches 88%.展开更多

This paper presents the use of digital image analysis combined with fractal theory as a tool to quantify the particle morphology and surface texture of two types of quartz sands widely used in the region of Vitória, Espírito Santo, southeast of Brazil. The two investigated sands are sampled from different locations. The purpose of this paper is to present a simple, straightforward,reliable and reproducible methodology that can identify representative sandy soil texture parameters.The test results of the soil samples of the two sands separated by sieving into six size fractions are presented and discussed. The main advantages of the adopted methodology are its simplicity, reliability of the results, and relatively low cost. The results show that sands from the coastal spit(BS) have a greater degree of roundness and a smoother surface texture than river sands(RS). The values obtained in the test are statistically analyzed, and again it is confirmed that the BS sand has a slightly greater degree of sphericity than that of the RS sand. Moreover, the RS sand with rough surface texture has larger specific surface area values than the similar BS sand, which agree with the obtained roughness fractal dimensions. The consistent experimental results demonstrate that image analysis combined with fractal theory is an accurate and efficient method to quantify the differences in particle morphology and surface texture of quartz sands.展开更多
Gear power-honing is mainly applied to finish small and medium-sized automotive gears,especially in new energy vehicles.The distinctive curved surface texture greatly improves the noise emission and service life of ho...Gear power-honing is mainly applied to finish small and medium-sized automotive gears,especially in new energy vehicles.The distinctive curved surface texture greatly improves the noise emission and service life of honed gears.The surface texture for honed gear considering the motion path and geometrical shape of abrasive particles has not been investigated.In this paper,the kinematics of the gear honing process is analyzed,and the machining marks produced by the abrasive particles of honing wheel scratching abrasive particles against the workpiece gear are calculated.The tooth surface roughness is modeled considering abrasive particle shapes and material plastic pile-ups.This results in a mathematical model that characterizes the structure of the tooth surface and the orientation of the machining marks.Experiments were used to verify the model,with a maximum relative error of less than 10%when abrasive particles are spherical.Based on this model,the effects of process parameters on the speeds of discrete points on the tooth flank,orientations of machining marks and roughness are discussed.The results show that the shaft angle between the workpiece gear and the honing wheel and the speed of the honing wheel is the main process parameters affecting the surface texture.This research proposes a surface texture model for honed gear,which can provide a theoretical basis for optimizing process parameters for gear power-honing.展开更多

Much important information referring to fault motion (e.g., fault activities period, intensity, frequency, and even dynamic background) can be revealed by resolving fault gouge, which is the result of fault motion w...Much important information referring to fault motion (e.g., fault activities period, intensity, frequency, and even dynamic background) can be revealed by resolving fault gouge, which is the result of fault motion while extruding or grinding. The field investigation encompassed sample collecting from the Bailong River fault system of the western segment of the Qinling Orogenic Belt (QOB); 44 samples of fault gouges were collected for quartz micro-morphology analysis. These samples were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscopy. In addition, 14 samples were tested for thermo-luminescence dating. The results showed that most of the surface textures of quartz grains are characterized by fish scale, moss-like texture, and stalactite. However, a small amount of orange peel-like fractures and worm-hole-like shaped surface texture were observed. Moreover, a few typical conchoids or subconchoidal fractures in quartz grains can be seen. This implies that the Bailong River Fault was active repeatedly during the Quaternary period, but the main motion period is the Pleistocene. The 14 thermo-luminescence dating values showed two age groups: 343.29-184.06 ka and 92.18-13.87 ka. These study data reveal that fault movement started during the Pliocene, occurred frequently in the early-middle period of the Pleistocene, and the peak frequency of the motion was reached in the early Pleistocene. The fault motions were stopped terminated in the early Holocene. The results are significant for the natural disaster risk evaluation in the western segment of the QOB.展开更多
Joining metal to plastic can lighten weight of products to reduce energy consumption.However,it is difficult to achieve high-strength welding between metal and plastic.To address this problem,the methods of surface te...Joining metal to plastic can lighten weight of products to reduce energy consumption.However,it is difficult to achieve high-strength welding between metal and plastic.To address this problem,the methods of surface texture pretreatment and laser irradiation welding was proposed to achieve the high-strength connection of metal and plastic.In this study,with different parameters of laser power and texture morphology,1060 Al with surface texture treatment was joined to polyethylene terephthalate(PET)by laser irradiation welding from metal side.Study showed that as the laser power increased,the tensile shear strength of joints increased first,and decreased thereafter.Tensile shear tests demonstrated that the mechanical force of joint was strengthened contributed to mechanical anchorage formed by surface texture.The depth-width ratio of the texture grooves affected the tensile shear process of the joint.According to the result of temperature simulation,the existence of texture grooves reduced the heat transfer efficiency,and the heat dissipation at interface was also impeded in course of laser welding.Finally,the maximum tensile strength of 1060Al-PET joint reached 48.4 MPa,which was close to the strength of PET matrix.The bonding mechanism of the 1060Al-PET joints was composed of mechanical bonding and chemical bonding.This study proposes an effective method to join metal to plastic which achieved high-strength connection between metal and plastic.展开更多

The Eckhardt-Grossmann-Lohse (EGL) theory, derived base...The behavior of Taylor-Couette (TC) flow has been extensively studied. However, no suitable torque prediction models exist for high-capacity fluid machinery. The Eckhardt-Grossmann-Lohse (EGL) theory, derived based on the Navier-Stokes equations, is proposed to model torque behavior. This are the significant energy theory suggests that surfaces transfer interfaces between cylinders and annular flow. This study mainly focuses on the effects of surface texture on momentum transfer behavior through global torque measurement. First, a power-law torque behavior model is built to reveal the relationship between dimensionless torque and the Taylor number based on the EGL theory. Second, TC flow appa- ratus is designed and built based on the CNC machine tool to verify the torque behavior model. Third, four surface texture films are tested to check the effects of surface texture on momentum transfer. A stereo microscope and three-dimensional topography instrument are employed to analyze surface morphology. Global torque behavior is measured by rotating a multi component dynamometer, and the effects of surface texture on the annular flow behavior are observed via images obtained using a high-speed camera. Finally, torque behaviors under four differentsurface conditions are fitted and compared. The experi- mental results indicate that surface textures have a remarkable influence on torque behavior, and that the peak roughness of surface texture enhances the momentum transfer by strengthening the fluctuation in the TC flow.展开更多
The research on surface texture is developing from single macro-texture to composite micro-nano texture.The current research on the anti-friction mechanism and theoretical models of textures is relatively weak.Studyin...The research on surface texture is developing from single macro-texture to composite micro-nano texture.The current research on the anti-friction mechanism and theoretical models of textures is relatively weak.Studying the characteristics of different types of surface textures and determining the applicable working conditions of each texture is the focus of current research.In this paper,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication is established based on Navier-Stokes equations.The FLUENT software is used to simulate and analyze the four texture models,explore the dynamic pressure lubrication characteristics of different texture types,and provide data support for texture optimization.The key variable values required by the mathematical model are obtained through the simulation data.The friction coefficient of the texture under different working conditions was measured through friction and wear experiments,and the mathematical model was verified by the experimental results.The research results show that circular texture is suitable for low to medium speed and high load conditions,chevron texture is suitable for medium to high speed and medium to high load conditions,groove texture is suitable for high speed and low load conditions,and composite texture is suitable for high speed and medium to high load conditions.Comparing the experimental results with the results obtained by the mathematical model,it is found that the two are basically the same in the ranking of the anti-friction performance of different textures,and there is an error of 10%−40%in the friction coefficient value.In this study,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication was proposed,and the solution method of the optimal surface texture model was determined.展开更多

Unlike self-similarity based 2D texture editing approaches which only make changes to pixel color or inten- sity values, this technique also allows surface geometry and reflectance of the captured 3D surface textures to be edited and relit us- ing illumination conditions and viewing angles that differ from those of the original. A single editing operation at a given location affects all similar areas and produces changes on all images of the sample rendered under different conditions. Since surface height and albedo maps can be used to describe seabed topography and geologic features, which play important roles in many oceanic proc- esses, the proposed method can be effectively employed in applications regarding visualization and simulation of oceanic phenom- ena.展开更多
Background Adequate data collection can enhance the realism of online rendering or offline playback of haptic surface textures.A parallel challenge is to reduce communication delays and improve storage space utilizati...Background Adequate data collection can enhance the realism of online rendering or offline playback of haptic surface textures.A parallel challenge is to reduce communication delays and improve storage space utilization.Methods Based on the similarity of the short-term amplitude spectrum trend,this study proposes a frequency-domain compression method.A compression framework is designed,which first maps the amplitude spectrum into grayscale images,compresses them with a still image compression method,and then adaptively encodes the maximum amplitude and part of the initial phase for each time window to achieve the final compression.Results The comparison between the original signal and the recovered signal shows that when the time-frequency similarity is 90%,the average compression ratio of our method is 9.85%in the case of a single interaction point.The subjective score for similarity was found to be high,with an average of 87.85.Conclusions Our method can be used for offline compression of vibrotactile data.For multi-interaction points in space,the trend similarity grayscale image can be reused,and the compression ratio is further reduced.展开更多

GH4169D superalloy exhibits exceptional service performance,enhancing the capabilities of aero-engines.However,it also poses challenges to component machining.Ultrasonic vibration-assisted machining has demonstrated a...GH4169D superalloy exhibits exceptional service performance,enhancing the capabilities of aero-engines.However,it also poses challenges to component machining.Ultrasonic vibration-assisted machining has demonstrated advantages in enhancing material machinability.However,comprehensive analyses that pertain to the tool cutting edge path,material removal mechanism,and surface texture in longitudinal ultrasonic vibration-assisted side-milling(LUVM)are rare.In this study,GH4169D superalloy was subjected to LUVM and conventional milling(CM)to investigate the material removal mechanism and surface texture generation.Furthermore,a noncutting time ratio model was proposed to predict the reduction in maximum milling force achieved by LUVM.Results indicated that compared with that of CM,the machining of LUVM was divided into milling and noncutting.The inclusion of noncutting contributed to a reduction in the maximum milling force during LUVM.However,as milling speed increased,noncutting time ratio decreased and subsequently diminished the advantage of LUVM.The chip morphology formed using LUVM exhibited a greater degree of curliness compared with that obtained using CM,facilitating chip breaking.The utilization of LUVM resulted in the formation of a thinner lamellar structure on the free surface of chips compared with the use of CM.The machined surface exhibited a distinct ultrasonic vibration texture in LUVM,which was characterized by a physics formula.The utilization of LUVM demonstrated a reduction in machined surface roughness Ra compared with the use of CM at a low milling speed.The findings of this study contribute to the prediction of the effects of LUVM on reducing maximum milling force and achieving control over chip morphologies and machined surface texture.展开更多
Road traffic noise is a significant environmental issue in urban areas with major health and economic implications for communities.Thus,a comprehensive understanding of tire/road noise mechanism is crucial for road pa...Road traffic noise is a significant environmental issue in urban areas with major health and economic implications for communities.Thus,a comprehensive understanding of tire/road noise mechanism is crucial for road pavement engineering.This study evaluates the noise behaviour of six innovative microsurfacing mixtures incorporating natural and artificial aggregates(geopolymers and crumb rubber)with varying particle size distributions and binders.A 2D laser analysis aims at collecting surface texture indicators,while noise-related indicators were derived according to ISO 10844 standards.Noise levels were predicted using the SPERoN^(R)model(statistical physical explanation of rolling noise),analysing the vibro-dynamic and the aerodynamic contributions separately.Correlations between tire/road noise levels predicted by the model and surface texture indicators elucidate the key factors influencing noise generation mechanism.The findings indicate that lower nominal maximum aggregate size(NMAS)and uniformly shaped artificial aggregates substantially mitigate rolling noise.Moreover,profiles with negative skewness and positive kurtosis exhibit reduced noise generation.The study highlights the limitations of traditional indicators like the estimated noise difference due to texture(ENDT)and highlights the g-factor from the Abbott curve as a more reliable predictor of pavement noise properties.These findings provide valuable insights for designing low-noise pavements with enhanced performance,offering new perspectives on the noise behaviour and acoustic properties of microsurfacing.展开更多

The data analysis shows that: 1) different rexture parameters have a clear scattered distribution, 2) the main direction of texture is the direction represented by the maximum parameter of Gauss-MRF parameters, and 3) for those samples having the same main direction, the finer the texture is, the greater the corresponding parameter is, and the smaller the other parameters are; and the higher the order of Gauss-MRF is, the more clearly the texture is described. On the condition of the second order Gauss MRF model, parameter B1, B2 of tangential texture are smaller than that of radial texture, while B3 and B4 of tangential texture are greater than that of radial texture. According to the value of separated criterion, the parameter of the fifth order Gauss-MRF is used as feature vector for Hamming neural network classification. As a result, the ratio of correctness reaches 88%.
文摘The particle morphology and surface texture play a major role in influencing mechanical and hydraulic behaviors of sandy soils. This paper presents the use of digital image analysis combined with fractal theory as a tool to quantify the particle morphology and surface texture of two types of quartz sands widely used in the region of Vitória, Espírito Santo, southeast of Brazil. The two investigated sands are sampled from different locations. The purpose of this paper is to present a simple, straightforward,reliable and reproducible methodology that can identify representative sandy soil texture parameters.The test results of the soil samples of the two sands separated by sieving into six size fractions are presented and discussed. The main advantages of the adopted methodology are its simplicity, reliability of the results, and relatively low cost. The results show that sands from the coastal spit(BS) have a greater degree of roundness and a smoother surface texture than river sands(RS). The values obtained in the test are statistically analyzed, and again it is confirmed that the BS sand has a slightly greater degree of sphericity than that of the RS sand. Moreover, the RS sand with rough surface texture has larger specific surface area values than the similar BS sand, which agree with the obtained roughness fractal dimensions. The consistent experimental results demonstrate that image analysis combined with fractal theory is an accurate and efficient method to quantify the differences in particle morphology and surface texture of quartz sands.

文摘Gear power-honing is mainly applied to finish small and medium-sized automotive gears,especially in new energy vehicles.The distinctive curved surface texture greatly improves the noise emission and service life of honed gears.The surface texture for honed gear considering the motion path and geometrical shape of abrasive particles has not been investigated.In this paper,the kinematics of the gear honing process is analyzed,and the machining marks produced by the abrasive particles of honing wheel scratching abrasive particles against the workpiece gear are calculated.The tooth surface roughness is modeled considering abrasive particle shapes and material plastic pile-ups.This results in a mathematical model that characterizes the structure of the tooth surface and the orientation of the machining marks.Experiments were used to verify the model,with a maximum relative error of less than 10%when abrasive particles are spherical.Based on this model,the effects of process parameters on the speeds of discrete points on the tooth flank,orientations of machining marks and roughness are discussed.The results show that the shaft angle between the workpiece gear and the honing wheel and the speed of the honing wheel is the main process parameters affecting the surface texture.This research proposes a surface texture model for honed gear,which can provide a theoretical basis for optimizing process parameters for gear power-honing.

文摘Three kinds of aggregates were polished by genuine pneumatic rubber tyres.The initial states of surface texture and dynamic friction coefficient were measured and their developments in polishing process were monitored.The characterizations of height distribution and power spectral density of aggregate surface texture were estimated.The changes of micro-texture were also investigated based on a fractal filtering method with sound theoretical backgrounds of rubber friction on rough surfaces.Global height reduction and differential removal of mineral component are observed in polishing process.It is concluded that the tyre-polishing action plays the critical roles in the micro-scale texture,and the evolution of friction of aggregate is governed by the micro-texture changes due to the differential removal of mineral component.

文摘Much important information referring to fault motion (e.g., fault activities period, intensity, frequency, and even dynamic background) can be revealed by resolving fault gouge, which is the result of fault motion while extruding or grinding. The field investigation encompassed sample collecting from the Bailong River fault system of the western segment of the Qinling Orogenic Belt (QOB); 44 samples of fault gouges were collected for quartz micro-morphology analysis. These samples were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscopy. In addition, 14 samples were tested for thermo-luminescence dating. The results showed that most of the surface textures of quartz grains are characterized by fish scale, moss-like texture, and stalactite. However, a small amount of orange peel-like fractures and worm-hole-like shaped surface texture were observed. Moreover, a few typical conchoids or subconchoidal fractures in quartz grains can be seen. This implies that the Bailong River Fault was active repeatedly during the Quaternary period, but the main motion period is the Pleistocene. The 14 thermo-luminescence dating values showed two age groups: 343.29-184.06 ka and 92.18-13.87 ka. These study data reveal that fault movement started during the Pliocene, occurred frequently in the early-middle period of the Pleistocene, and the peak frequency of the motion was reached in the early Pleistocene. The fault motions were stopped terminated in the early Holocene. The results are significant for the natural disaster risk evaluation in the western segment of the QOB.

文摘Joining metal to plastic can lighten weight of products to reduce energy consumption.However,it is difficult to achieve high-strength welding between metal and plastic.To address this problem,the methods of surface texture pretreatment and laser irradiation welding was proposed to achieve the high-strength connection of metal and plastic.In this study,with different parameters of laser power and texture morphology,1060 Al with surface texture treatment was joined to polyethylene terephthalate(PET)by laser irradiation welding from metal side.Study showed that as the laser power increased,the tensile shear strength of joints increased first,and decreased thereafter.Tensile shear tests demonstrated that the mechanical force of joint was strengthened contributed to mechanical anchorage formed by surface texture.The depth-width ratio of the texture grooves affected the tensile shear process of the joint.According to the result of temperature simulation,the existence of texture grooves reduced the heat transfer efficiency,and the heat dissipation at interface was also impeded in course of laser welding.Finally,the maximum tensile strength of 1060Al-PET joint reached 48.4 MPa,which was close to the strength of PET matrix.The bonding mechanism of the 1060Al-PET joints was composed of mechanical bonding and chemical bonding.This study proposes an effective method to join metal to plastic which achieved high-strength connection between metal and plastic.

文摘The behavior of Taylor-Couette (TC) flow has been extensively studied. However, no suitable torque prediction models exist for high-capacity fluid machinery. The Eckhardt-Grossmann-Lohse (EGL) theory, derived based on the Navier-Stokes equations, is proposed to model torque behavior. This are the significant energy theory suggests that surfaces transfer interfaces between cylinders and annular flow. This study mainly focuses on the effects of surface texture on momentum transfer behavior through global torque measurement. First, a power-law torque behavior model is built to reveal the relationship between dimensionless torque and the Taylor number based on the EGL theory. Second, TC flow appa- ratus is designed and built based on the CNC machine tool to verify the torque behavior model. Third, four surface texture films are tested to check the effects of surface texture on momentum transfer. A stereo microscope and three-dimensional topography instrument are employed to analyze surface morphology. Global torque behavior is measured by rotating a multi component dynamometer, and the effects of surface texture on the annular flow behavior are observed via images obtained using a high-speed camera. Finally, torque behaviors under four differentsurface conditions are fitted and compared. The experi- mental results indicate that surface textures have a remarkable influence on torque behavior, and that the peak roughness of surface texture enhances the momentum transfer by strengthening the fluctuation in the TC flow.

文摘The research on surface texture is developing from single macro-texture to composite micro-nano texture.The current research on the anti-friction mechanism and theoretical models of textures is relatively weak.Studying the characteristics of different types of surface textures and determining the applicable working conditions of each texture is the focus of current research.In this paper,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication is established based on Navier-Stokes equations.The FLUENT software is used to simulate and analyze the four texture models,explore the dynamic pressure lubrication characteristics of different texture types,and provide data support for texture optimization.The key variable values required by the mathematical model are obtained through the simulation data.The friction coefficient of the texture under different working conditions was measured through friction and wear experiments,and the mathematical model was verified by the experimental results.The research results show that circular texture is suitable for low to medium speed and high load conditions,chevron texture is suitable for medium to high speed and medium to high load conditions,groove texture is suitable for high speed and low load conditions,and composite texture is suitable for high speed and medium to high load conditions.Comparing the experimental results with the results obtained by the mathematical model,it is found that the two are basically the same in the ranking of the anti-friction performance of different textures,and there is an error of 10%−40%in the friction coefficient value.In this study,a mathematical model of hydrodynamic lubrication was proposed,and the solution method of the optimal surface texture model was determined.

文摘To understand the research status of asphalt pavement texture,the related achievements and progress of pavement surface texture were systematically sorted out from three aspects:the characterization of pavement surface texture,the texture measurement and evaluation,and the relationship between texture and the skid resistance.Based on the statistical geometric characteristics,the spectral characteristics,the fractal characteristics and the multifractal characteristics,the characteristics of pavement texture were discussed.The test methods of pavement texture were divided into two categories:direct measurement methods and indirect measurement methods.The advantages and disadvantages of each measurement method were summarized.The effects of macro-texture and micro-texture on asphalt pavement were discussed,respectively.The relationship between texture and skid resistance was studied.This review shows that multifractal theory should be further studied from the aspect of road engineering.High-precision non-contact integrated detection technology should be further studied to meet the needs of complex testing environments.The method of finite element numerical simulation has potential for the analysis of pavement skid resistance.In addition,methods such as big data analysis,neural network,and deep learning should be studied to achieve the intelligent perception and management of the whole state of skid resistance prediction.
文摘This paper presents an inexpensive method for self-similarity based editing of real-world 3D surface textures by using height and albedo maps. Unlike self-similarity based 2D texture editing approaches which only make changes to pixel color or inten- sity values, this technique also allows surface geometry and reflectance of the captured 3D surface textures to be edited and relit us- ing illumination conditions and viewing angles that differ from those of the original. A single editing operation at a given location affects all similar areas and produces changes on all images of the sample rendered under different conditions. Since surface height and albedo maps can be used to describe seabed topography and geologic features, which play important roles in many oceanic proc- esses, the proposed method can be effectively employed in applications regarding visualization and simulation of oceanic phenom- ena.

文摘Background Adequate data collection can enhance the realism of online rendering or offline playback of haptic surface textures.A parallel challenge is to reduce communication delays and improve storage space utilization.Methods Based on the similarity of the short-term amplitude spectrum trend,this study proposes a frequency-domain compression method.A compression framework is designed,which first maps the amplitude spectrum into grayscale images,compresses them with a still image compression method,and then adaptively encodes the maximum amplitude and part of the initial phase for each time window to achieve the final compression.Results The comparison between the original signal and the recovered signal shows that when the time-frequency similarity is 90%,the average compression ratio of our method is 9.85%in the case of a single interaction point.The subjective score for similarity was found to be high,with an average of 87.85.Conclusions Our method can be used for offline compression of vibrotactile data.For multi-interaction points in space,the trend similarity grayscale image can be reused,and the compression ratio is further reduced.
文摘This thesis presents a new approach to classify 3D surface textures by using lifting transform with quincunx subsampling. Feature vectors are generated from eight different lifting prediction directions. We classify 3D surface texture images based on minimum Euclidean distance between the test images and the training sets. The feasibility and effectiveness of our proposed approach can be validated by the experimental results.

文摘When the machine tool is in the start-and stop-stages,the stick-slip phenomenon will be observed and highprecision positioning,machining accuracy and fretting feed will not be guaranteed. The most critical reason is that there is the difference between the dynamic and the static friction coefficients. Textures with different area ratios are fabricated on the surfaces of the upper PTFE-based composite and the friction tests are carried out on a reciprocating tribotester under the boundary lubrication and flat-on-flat contact conditions. The results show that there exists an optimal textured area ratio of 19.6% that can minimize the difference between the dynamic and the static friction coefficients.
文摘The wearing course conditions strongly affect road pavements quality in terms of traffic safety and overall functionality.Surface texture can be considered a very strategic aspect to assess road pavement status,in order to predict its degradation and to define an effective maintenance program.Nowadays,common texture assessment approaches are mainly empirical and based on in-situ and/or laboratory direct measurements,thus the quantity and quality of the obtainable information are limited.On the other hand,advanced contactless techniques require expensive and often complicated equipment that can be hardly used in common applications.In this regard,a low budget close-range photogrammetry technique for road pavements 3D surface texture analysis is here proposed.14 areal texture parameters including depth,volume,distribution and feature indicators have been determined by analysing the 3D models.The outcomes have been compared with those found with the traditional volumetric patch and pendulum tests,and a complete pairwise correlation matrix has been obtained.Volume patch test exhibits a high relationship with different volume and height surface texture parameters,while lowcorrelations have been found comparing pendulum test with the intrinsic and statistical indicators.The results and their relationships have been commented in-depth along with proposed further research activities.

文摘GH4169D superalloy exhibits exceptional service performance,enhancing the capabilities of aero-engines.However,it also poses challenges to component machining.Ultrasonic vibration-assisted machining has demonstrated advantages in enhancing material machinability.However,comprehensive analyses that pertain to the tool cutting edge path,material removal mechanism,and surface texture in longitudinal ultrasonic vibration-assisted side-milling(LUVM)are rare.In this study,GH4169D superalloy was subjected to LUVM and conventional milling(CM)to investigate the material removal mechanism and surface texture generation.Furthermore,a noncutting time ratio model was proposed to predict the reduction in maximum milling force achieved by LUVM.Results indicated that compared with that of CM,the machining of LUVM was divided into milling and noncutting.The inclusion of noncutting contributed to a reduction in the maximum milling force during LUVM.However,as milling speed increased,noncutting time ratio decreased and subsequently diminished the advantage of LUVM.The chip morphology formed using LUVM exhibited a greater degree of curliness compared with that obtained using CM,facilitating chip breaking.The utilization of LUVM resulted in the formation of a thinner lamellar structure on the free surface of chips compared with the use of CM.The machined surface exhibited a distinct ultrasonic vibration texture in LUVM,which was characterized by a physics formula.The utilization of LUVM demonstrated a reduction in machined surface roughness Ra compared with the use of CM at a low milling speed.The findings of this study contribute to the prediction of the effects of LUVM on reducing maximum milling force and achieving control over chip morphologies and machined surface texture.

文摘Road traffic noise is a significant environmental issue in urban areas with major health and economic implications for communities.Thus,a comprehensive understanding of tire/road noise mechanism is crucial for road pavement engineering.This study evaluates the noise behaviour of six innovative microsurfacing mixtures incorporating natural and artificial aggregates(geopolymers and crumb rubber)with varying particle size distributions and binders.A 2D laser analysis aims at collecting surface texture indicators,while noise-related indicators were derived according to ISO 10844 standards.Noise levels were predicted using the SPERoN^(R)model(statistical physical explanation of rolling noise),analysing the vibro-dynamic and the aerodynamic contributions separately.Correlations between tire/road noise levels predicted by the model and surface texture indicators elucidate the key factors influencing noise generation mechanism.The findings indicate that lower nominal maximum aggregate size(NMAS)and uniformly shaped artificial aggregates substantially mitigate rolling noise.Moreover,profiles with negative skewness and positive kurtosis exhibit reduced noise generation.The study highlights the limitations of traditional indicators like the estimated noise difference due to texture(ENDT)and highlights the g-factor from the Abbott curve as a more reliable predictor of pavement noise properties.These findings provide valuable insights for designing low-noise pavements with enhanced performance,offering new perspectives on the noise behaviour and acoustic properties of microsurfacing.
