There are two widely used radiative models without consideration of aerosol inhomogeneity for satellite remote sensing application, the Homogeneous Model and the Two-layer Model with aerosol in the lower layer. In this paper, effects of the aerosol vertical inhomogeneity on upwelling radiance and satellite remote sensing of surface reflectance are analyzed through numerical simulations by using two models. As shown in the simulations by using 24 representative aerosol models, there is often a considerably large error in upwel-ling radiance calculated by two models (Homogeneous and Two-layer) for the short wavelength channel with strong molecular scattering, owing to the difference between molecular and aerosol scattering proper-ties. For the long wavelength channel, the error is small if aerosol optical parameters are less variable with height, but it could also be significant if there are aerosol layers with different scattering phase functions and single scattering albedo. The radiance errors by the Homogeneous Model and the Two-layer Model can be up to 31.4% and 31.5% for the clean atmosphere, and in case of turbid atmosphere 67.8% and 59.2%, respectively. The radiance error could result in a large uncertainty of surface reflectance retrievals, especially for the short wavelength channel and the strongly absorbing aerosol. For the turbid atmosphere with strong-ly absorbing aerosol, the Homogeneous Model and the Two-layer Model are not suitable for atmospheric correction application. This paper proposed a method to retrieve the land surface reflectance from the HJ-1A/B CCD data. The aerosol optical depth(AOD), the most important factor affecting the atmospheric correction of CCD images at all bands, is proposed to retrieve from the CCD imagery by the approach of dense dark vegetation(DDV) method. A look-up table in terms of the transmittances, the path radiances and the atmospheric spherical albedo as functions of the AOD was established for a variety of sun-sensor geometry and aerosol loadings. The atmospheric correction is then achieved with the look-up table and the MODIS surface reflectance output(MOD09) as the priori datasets. Based on the retrieved AOD and the look-up table of atmospheric correction coefficients, the land surface reflectance was retrieved for the HJ-1A/B data according to the atmospheric radiative transfer equation. Some in-situ measurement Data for Yanzhou of Shandong province in East China and MODIS land surface reflectance products MOD09 are used to preliminarily validate the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can remove effectively the atmospheric contributions, and the overall accuracy of the retrieval land surface reflectance can be improved substantially. 展开更多

Existing Generalized Receive Spatial Modulation(GRSM)with Symbol-Level Precoding(SLP)forces the received signals(excluding noise)at unintended antennas to be zero, which restricts the generation of strong constructive interference to intended receive antennas and thus limits the performance improvement over conventional GRSM with Zero-Forcing(ZF)precoding.In this paper,we propose a novel GRSM-SLP scheme that relaxes the zero receive power constraint and achieves superior performance by integrating Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces(IRSs).Specifically, our advanced GRSM-RSLP jointly exploits SLP at the transmitter and passive beamforming at the IRS to maximize the power difference between intended and unintended receive antennas, where the received signals at unintended antennas are relaxed to lie in a sphere centered at origin with a preset radius that depends on the Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR)value. The precoding matrix and passive beamforming vectors are optimized alternately by considering both phase shift keying and quadrature amplitude modulation signaling. It is worth emphasizing that GRSM-RSLP is a universal solution, also applicable to systems without IRS,although it performs better in IRS-assisted systems. We finally conduct extensive simulations to prove the superiority of GRSM-RSLP over GRSM-ZF and GRSM-SLP.Simulation results show that the performance of GRSM-RSLP is significantly influenced by the number of unintended antennas, and the larger the number, the better its performance. In the best-case scenario,GRSM-RSLP can achieve SNR gains of up to 10.5 dB and 12.5 dB over GRSM-SLP and GRSM-ZF,respectively. 展开更多

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)-Terra surface reflectance product(MOD09A1),with bands 1 to 7,is a gridded,eight-day composite product derived from the MODIS-Terra top of atmosphere reflectance swaths. It performs cloud detection and corrects for the effects of atmospheric gases and aerosols. The cloud mask(CM)algorithms for MODIS are based on empirical thresholds on spectral reflectance and brightness temperature.Since the spatial resolution of the thermal band is 1000 m,while that of MOD09A1 is 500 m,many undetected and false clouds are observed in MOD09A1.These errors always result in temporal and spatial inconsistencies in higher-level products. In this paper,a cloud detection algorithm(TSCD)based on a MOD09A1 time series is introduced.Time series cloud detection(TSCD)algorithm is based on the relative stability of ground reflectance and the sudden variations in reflectance that result from cloud cover. The algorithm first searches the clear-sky reference data, and then discriminates clouded and unclouded pixels by detecting a sudden change of reflectance in the blue wavelength and spectral correlation coefficient at the pixel level.Compared with cloud cover assessments obtained from MODIS’original CM,TSCD provides similar or better discrimination in most situations when the land surface changes slowly. 展开更多

Lower Earth Orbit(LEO) satellite becomes an important part of complementing terrestrial communication due to its lower orbital altitude and smaller propagation delay than Geostationary satellite. However, the LEO satellite communication system cannot meet the requirements of users when the satellite-terrestrial link is blocked by obstacles. To solve this problem, we introduce Intelligent reflect surface(IRS) for improving the achievable rate of terrestrial users in LEO satellite communication. We investigated joint IRS scheduling, user scheduling, power and bandwidth allocation(JIRPB) optimization algorithm for improving LEO satellite system throughput. The optimization problem of joint user scheduling and resource allocation is formulated as a non-convex optimization problem. To cope with this problem, the nonconvex optimization problem is divided into resource allocation optimization sub-problem and scheduling optimization sub-problem firstly. Second, we optimize the resource allocation sub-problem via alternating direction multiplier method(ADMM) and scheduling sub-problem via Lagrangian dual method repeatedly.Third, we prove that the proposed resource allocation algorithm based ADMM approaches sublinear convergence theoretically. Finally, we demonstrate that the proposed JIRPB optimization algorithm improves the LEO satellite communication system throughput. 展开更多

This work employs intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)to enhance secure and covert communication performance. We formulate an optimization problem to jointly design both the reflection beamformer at IRS and transmit power at transmitter Alice in order to optimize the achievable secrecy rate at Bob subject to a covertness constraint. We first develop a Dinkelbach-based algorithm to achieve an upper bound performance and a high-quality solution. For reducing the overhead and computational complexity of the Dinkelbach-based scheme,we further conceive a low-complexity algorithm in which analytical expression for the IRS reflection beamforming is derived at each iteration.Examination result shows that the devised low-complexity algorithm is able to achieve similar secrecy rate performance as the Dinkelbach-based algorithm. Our examination also shows that introducing an IRS into the considered system can significantly improve the secure and covert communication performance relative to the scheme without IRS. 展开更多

Seismic isolation is an effective strategy to mitigate the risk of seismic damage in tunnels. However, the impact of surface-reflected seismic waves on the effectiveness of tunnel isolation layers remains under explored. In this study,we employ the wave function expansion method to provide analytical solutions for the dynamic responses of linings in an elastic half-space and an infinite elastic space.By comparing the results of the two models,we investigate the seismic isolation effect of tunnel isolation layers induced by reflected seismic waves. Our findings reveal significant differences in the dynamic responses of the lining in the elastic half-space and the infinitely elastic space.Specifically, the dynamic stress concentration factor(DSCF)of the lining in the elastic half-space exhibits periodic fluctuations, influenced by the incident wave frequency and tunnel depth, while the DSCF in the infinitely elastic space remain stable.Overall, the seismic isolation application of the tunnel isolation layer is found to be less affected by surface-reflected seismic waves. Our results provide valuable insights for the design and assessment of the seismic isolation effect of tunnel isolation layers. 展开更多

Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS),with the potential capability to reconstruct the electromagnetic propagation environment, evolves a new IRSassisted covert communications paradigm to eliminate the negligible detection of malicious eavesdroppers by coherently beaming the scattered signals and suppressing the signals leakage. However, when multiple IRSs are involved, accurate channel estimation is still a challenge due to the extra hardware complexity and communication overhead.Besides the crossinterference caused by massive reflecting paths,it is hard to obtain the close-formed solution for the optimization of covert communications. On this basis, the paper improves a heterogeneous multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient(MADDPG)approach for the joint active and passive beamforming(Joint A&P BF)optimization without the channel estimation, where the base station(BS)and multiple IRSs are taken as different types of agents and learn to enhance the covert spectrum efficiency(CSE)cooperatively. Thanks to the‘centralized training and distributed execution’feature of MADDPG,each agent can execute the active or passive beamforming independently based on its partial observation without referring to others.Numeral results demonstrate that the proposed deep reinforcement learning(DRL)approach could not only obtain a preferable CSE of legitimate users and a low detection of probability(LPD)of warden, but also alleviate the communication overhead and simplify the IRSs deployment. 展开更多

The research for the Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS)which has the advantages of cost and energy efficiency has been studied.Channel capacity can be effectively increased by appropriately setting the phase value of IRS elements according to the channel conditions. However, the problem of obtaining an appropriate phase value of IRs is difficult to solve due to the non-convex problem. This paper proposes an iterative algorithm for the alternating optimal solution in the Single User Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output(SU-MIMO)systems.The proposed iterative algorithm finds an alternating optimal solution that is the phase value of IRS one by one.The results show that the proposed method has better performance than that of the randomized IRS systems. The number of iterations for maximizing the performance of the proposed algorithm depends on the channel state between the IRS and the receiver. 展开更多

Wireless Power Transfer(WPT)technology can provide real-time power for many terminal devices in Internet of Things(IoT)through millimeterWave(mmWave)to support applications with large capacity and low latency.Although the intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)can be adopted to create effective virtual links to address the mmWave blockage problem, the conventional solutions only adopt IRS in the downlink from the Base Station(BS)to the users to enhance the received signal strength. In practice, the reflection of IRS is also applicable to the uplink to improve the spectral efficiency. It is a challenging to jointly optimize IRS beamforming and system resource allocation for wireless energy acquisition and information transmission. In this paper,we first design a Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy(LEACH)clustering protocol for clustering and data collection. Then, the problem of maximizing the minimum system spectral efficiency is constructed by jointly optimizing the transmit power of sensor devices, the uplink and downlink transmission times, the active beamforming at the BS,and the IRS dynamic beamforming. To solve this non-convex optimization problem,we propose an alternating optimization(AO)-based joint solution algorithm.Simulation results show that the use of IRS dynamic beamforming can significantly improve the spectral efficiency of the system, and ensure the reliability of equipment communication and the sustainability of energy supply under NLOS link. 展开更多

Intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)can efficiently improve the performance of wireless commu-nication networks by intelligently reconfiguring the wireless propagation environment.Recently,IRS has been integrated with cognitive radio(CR)network in order to improve the resource utilization of communication systems. It is a challenging issue for IRS-assisted CR networks to improve the rate performance of the secondary user(SU)through the rational design of IRS passive beamforming while limiting the interference to the primary network. This paper investigates the optimization of downlink rate of SU in a double-IRS-assisted CR network. The achievable rate is maximized by jointly optimizing the active beamforming vector at the secondary transmitter(SU-TX)and the coop-eratively passive reflective beamforming at the two distributed IRSs.To solve the proposed non-con-vex joint optimization problem, the alternating optimization(AO)and semidefinite relaxation(SDR)techniques are then adopted to iteratively optimize the two variables.Numerical results vali-date that the proposed double-IRS assisted system can significantly improve the performance of the CR network compared with the existing single-IRS assisted CR system. 展开更多

In this paper,we study an Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS)assisted Mobile Edge Computing(MEC)system under eavesdropping threats, where the IRS is used to enhance the energy signal transmission and the offloading performance between Wireless Devices(WDs)and the Access Point(AP).Specifically,in the proposed scheme, the AP first powers all WDs with the wireless power transfer through both direct and IRS-assisted links. Then, powered by the harvested energy, all WDs securely offload their computation tasks through the two links in the time division multiple access mode.To determine the local and offloading computational bits,we formulate an optimization problem to jointly design the IRS's phase shift and allocate the time slots constrained by the security and energy requirements. To cope with this non-convex optimization problem,we adopt semidefinite relaxations, singular value decomposition techniques, and Lagrange dual method. Moreover,we propose a dichotomy particle swarm algorithm based on the bisection method to process the overall optimization problem and improve the convergence speed. The numerical results illustrate that the proposed scheme can boost the performance of MEC and secure computation rates compared with other IRS-assisted MEC benchmark schemes. 展开更多

The simultaneous transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface(STAR-RIS)can independently adjust surface’s reflection and transmission coefficients so as to enhance space coverage. For a multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)communication system with a STAR-RIS,a base station(BS),an eavesdropper, and multiple users, the system security rate is studied.A joint design of the power allocation at the transmitter and phase shift matrices for reflection and transmission at the STAR-RIS is conducted,in order to maximize the worst achievable security data rate(ASDR).Since the problem is nonconvex and hence challenging,a particle swarm optimization(PSO)based algorithm is developed to tackle the problem. Both the cases of continuous and discrete phase shift matrices at the STAR-RIS are considered.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and shows the benefits of using STAR-RIS in MIMO mutliuser systems. 展开更多

As a novel signaling technology, the power splitting receiver(PSR)simultaneously employs both the coherent and non-coherent signal processing. In order to improve its communication performance,an intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)is introduced into its signal propagation path.Consequently,an IRSaided PSR is concerned for a point-to-point(P2P)data link, where both the single-antenna and multiantenna deployments on the receiver are discussed. We aim at maximizing the capacity of the concerned P2P data-link by jointly optimizing the passive beamforming of IRS and the splitting ratio of PSR,either in single-antenna or multi-antenna case. However, owing to the coupling of multiple variables, the optimization problems are non-convex and challenging, especially in the later multi-antenna case. The proposed alternating-approximating algorithm(A-A),aided by semi-definite relaxation(SDR)and successive convex approximation(SCA)methods, etc.,successfully overcomes these challenges. We compare the IRS-aided PSR system that optimized by our proposed algorithm to the systems without IRS or PSR,and the systems without joint optimization. The simulation results show that our proposal has a better performance. 展开更多

Digital content such as games, extended reality(XR),and movies has been widely and easily distributed over wireless networks. As a result, unauthorized access, copyright infringement by third parties or eavesdroppers, and cyberattacks over these networks have become pressing concerns. Therefore, protecting copyrighted content and preventing illegal distribution in wireless communications has garnered significant attention. The Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS)is regarded as a promising technology for future wireless and mobile networks due to its ability to reconfigure the radio propagation environment. This study investigates the security performance of an uplink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access(NOMA)system integrated with an IRS and employing Fountain Codes(FCs).Specifically, two users send signals to the base station at separate distances.A relay receives the signal from the nearby user first and then relays it to the base station. The IRS receives the signal from the distant user and reflects it to the relay, which then sends the reflected signal to the base station.Furthermore,a malevolent eavesdropper intercepts both user and relay communications. We construct mathematical equations for Outage Probability(OP),throughput, diversity evaluation, and Interception Probability(IP),offering quantitative insights to assess system security and performance.Additionally,OP and IP are analyzed using a Deep Neural Network(DNN)model.A deeper comprehension of the security performance of the IRS-assisted NOMA systemin signal transmission is provided by Monte Carlo simulations, which are also carried out to confirm the theoretical conclusions. 展开更多

The performance of traditional regular Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS)improves as the number of IRS elements increases, but more reflecting elements lead to higher IRS power consumption and greater overhead of channel estimation. The Irregular Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IIRS)can enhance the performance of the IRS as well as boost the system performance when the number of reflecting elements is limited. However, due to the lack of radio frequency chain in IRS,it is challenging for the Base Station(BS)to gather perfect Channel State Information(CSI),especially in the presence of Eavesdroppers(Eves). Therefore,in this paper we investigate the minimum transmit power problem of IIRS-aided Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer(SWIPT)secure communication system with imperfect CSI of BS-IIRS-Eves links, which is subject to the rate outage probability constraints of the Eves, the minimum rate constraints of the Information Receivers(IRs),the energy harvesting constraints of the Energy Receivers(ERs),and the topology matrix constraints.Afterward, the formulated nonconvex problem can be efficiently tackled by employing joint optimization algorithm combined with successive refinement method and adaptive topology design method.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and the superiority of IIRS. 展开更多

This paper investigates the secure communication between legitimate users in the presence of eavesdroppers, where the Intelligent Reflective Surface-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (IRS-UAV) and Buffer-Aided (BA) relaying techniques are utilized to enhance secrecy performance. By jointly optimizing the link selection strategy, the UAV position, and the reflection coefficient of the IRS, we aim to maximize the long-term average secrecy rate. Specifically, we propose a novel buffer in/out stabilization scheme based on the Lyapunov framework, which transforms the long-term average secrecy rate maximization problem into two per-slot drift-plus-penalty minimization problems with different link selection factors. The hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization-Artificial Fish Swarm Algorithm (PSO-AFSA) is adopted to optimize the UAV position, and the IRS reflection coefficient optimization problem is solved by iterative optimization in which auxiliary variables and standard convex optimization algorithms are introduced. Finally, the delay constraint is set to ensure the timeliness of information packets. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme outperforms the comparison schemes in terms of average secrecy rate. Specifically, the addition of BA improves the average secrecy rate by 1.37 bps/Hz, and the continued optimizations of IRS reflection coefficients and UAV positions improve the average secrecy rate by 2.46 bps/Hz and 3.75 bps/Hz, respectively. 展开更多

The deployment of multiple intelligent reflecting surfaces(IRSs)in blockage-prone millimeter wave(mmWave)communication networks have garnered considerable attention lately.Despite the remarkably low circuit power consumption per IRS element, the aggregate energy consumption becomes substantial if all elements of an IRS are turned on given a considerable number of IRSs,resulting in lower overall energy efficiency(EE).To tackle this challenge,we propose a flexible and efficient approach that individually controls the status of each IRS element.Specifically, the network EE is maximized by jointly optimizing the associations of base stations(BSs)and user equipments(UEs),transmit beamforming, phase shifts of IRS elements, and the associations of individual IRS elements and UEs.The problem is efficiently addressed in two phases.First, the Gale-Shapley algorithm is applied for BS-UE association, followed by a block coordinate descent-based algorithm that iteratively solves the subproblems related to active beamforming, phase shifts, and element-UE associations. To reduce the tremendous dimensionality of optimization variables introduced by element-UE associations in large-scale IRS networks,we introduce an efficient algorithm to solve the associations between IRS elements and UEs.Numerical results show that the proposed elementwise control scheme improves EE by 34.24% compared to the network with IRS-all-on scheme. 展开更多

The beamforming is ... A joint beamforming algorithm is proposed for intelligent reflecting surface(IRS) aided wireless multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) communication using statistical channel state information(CSI). The beamforming is done by alternatively optimizing the IRS reflecting coefficients and the covariance matrix of the transmit symbol vector, such that the ergodic rate of the system is maximized. The algorithm utilizes only the second order momentum of the random channel matrices and does assume any specific channel distribution, leading to a general framework for ergodic rate evaluation. A practical channel correlation model is configured to validate the performance gain. It is found that the rate can be enlarged by the joint optimization algorithm, however, the gain over that of randomly deployed reflecting coefficients depends highly on the relative correlation distance of the IRS elements and the spatial position of the IRS. In particular, the results suggest that IRS should be placed in the vicinity of either the transmitter or the receiver. Placing IRS far away from those positions is non-beneficial. 展开更多
