The effect of superheated steam(SHS)treatment on the quality characteristics of rape bee pollen were studied,and the efficiency of inactivation and inhibition of lipid oxidation were analyzed to investigate the differences between SHS and cobalt-60 isotope(^(60)Co)radiation treatment.The number of total plate count(TPC)and mold colonies(MC)remained within the limits of the standards after SHS treatment at 140℃for 2 min.Neither TPC nor MC were detected after^(60)Co irradiation.Peroxidase(POD)and polyphenol oxidase(PPO)activities significantly decreased with increasing temperature and duration of SHS,while^(60)Co radiation completely inactivated PPO.Compared to^(60)Co radiation,SHS treatment inhibited the deterioration of rape bee pollen by avoiding hydroperoxide production and lipid oxidation due to lack of oxygen.These results suggested SHS under 140℃for 2 min was the most suitable to inactivate the microorganisms and enzymes in rape bee pollen with minimal lipid oxidation. 展开更多

Experimental research into the boiling-up of a free jet of superheated water discharging through a short cylindrical nozzle with sharp inlet and outlet edges into the atmosphere has been carried out.The change in the shape of a liquid jet has been traced through changes in thermodynamic parameters(temperature,pressure)along the saturation line in both the visible range and the infrared spectrum.The flow shapes corresponding to various modes of boiling-up have been identified.With thermal-imaging diagnostics,heterogeneities in the spray plume of a superheated liquid jet have been recorded and temperature distributions have been obtained in various sections of a boiling-up flow.The maximum temperature in the flare of a boiling-up jet has been determined at different distances from the short nozzle’s exit edge. 展开更多

Whole grain foods are valued for their health benefits but face persistent challenges related to sensory acceptability,storage stability,and processing complexity.This review evaluates superheated steam(SHS)technology as a disruptive approach to whole grain processing,highlighting its ability to enhance nutritional retention,modulate microstructure,and extend shelf-life under low-oxygen,high-temperature conditions.SHS suppresses oxidative degradation,restructures starch–protein–lipid matrices,and inactivates enzymes and spoilage microorganisms with minimal nutrient loss.Despite these advantages,SHS faces limitations,including uneven heat penetration in dense kernels,component specific thermal sensitivity and higher equipment costs.By integrating mechanistic insights with practical outcomes,this paper synthesizes recent advances,highlights key scientific and technological gaps,and proposes strategies for industrial application and integration with intelligent food processing systems.This review provides a concise theoretical and technical roadmap for sustainable whole grain innovation. 展开更多

In order to incorporate the decision maker's preference into multiobjective optimization a preference-based multiobjective artificial bee colony algorithm PMABCA is proposed.In the proposed algorithm a novel reference point based preference expression method is addressed.The fitness assignment function is defined based on the nondominated rank and the newly defined preference distance.An archive set is introduced for saving the nondominated solutions and an improved crowding-distance operator is addressed to remove the extra solutions in the archive.The experimental results of two benchmark test functions show that a preferred set of solutions and some other non-preference solutions are achieved simultaneously.The simulation results of the proportional-integral-derivative PID parameter optimization for superheated steam temperature verify that the PMABCA is efficient in aiding to making a reasonable decision. 展开更多

Aquathermolysis was studied o... This paper presents a new aquathermolysis study of conventional heavy oil in superheated steam. A new high temperature autoclave was designed, where volume and pressure could be adjusted. Aquathermolysis was studied on two different conventional heavy oil samples under different reaction times and temperatures. Experimental results show that aquathermolysis does take place for conventional heavy oil. As reaction time increases, the oil viscosity reduces. However, the reaction will reach equilibrium after a certain period of time and won't be sensitive to any further reaction time any more. Analysis shows that, while resin and asphaltenes decrease, saturated hydrocarbons and the H/C ratio increase after reaction. The main mechanism of aquathermolysis includes hydrogenization, desulfuration reaction of resin and asphaltenes, etc. 展开更多

The anodizing parameters of voltage, current density, temperature, and electrolyte choice were assessed to find an appropriate combination for the superheated slurry cast 7075 Al alloy substrate.The alloy was anodized in sulfuric acid electrolyte or alternatively in sulfuric acid mixed with boric acid or citric acid. The voltages applied were in the range of 15-30 V. Anodizing current densities tested were 2 and 3 A/dm^2,while temperatures tested were 5 and 15 ℃. Thickness, surface morphology, hardness,and corrosion resistance of the oxide film were then evaluated.It was found that 25 V,2 A/dm^2 and 5 ℃ were suitable for this alloy when anodized in sulfuric acid. The oxide film was smooth with uniform thickness, low porosity, high hardness,and had the highest corrosion resistance at these parameters. However, discontinuous oxide films were observed from samples anodized at higher temperature of 15 ℃.Alternative electrolytes considered were sulfuric acid mixed with boric acid or citric acid. The results showed that electrolytes with boric acid or citric acid increased thickness, hardness, corrosion resistance and quality of the oxide films.However, these oxide films were inferior to those obtained with sulfuric acid electrolyte at lower temperature(25 V, 2 A/dm^2 and5 ℃). 展开更多

The dissolution, crystallization and hydrolysis behaviors of polyamide 6 (PA 6) in superheated water (140℃ _〈 TH 〈 200 ℃) are investigated. The hydrothermal processing of PA 6 can be divided into four regions: (I) TH 〈 140 ℃, (II) 140 ℃ 〈 TH 〈 155 ℃, (III) 155 ℃ 〈 TH 〈 160℃ and (IV) TH 〉 160 ℃. Below 140 ℃, the hydrothermal processing does not have obvious impact on PA 6. Between 140 ℃ and 155 ℃, an annealing effect is observed that the hydrothermally treated resin shows increased melting temperature and lamellar thickness compared with the original PA 6. Between 155 ℃ and 160 ℃, the hydrothermal processing induces both annealing and surface swelling. Above 160 ℃, PA 6 dissolves fully in the superheated water. As PA 6 dissolves in the superheated water, hydrolysis takes place and becomes more prominent at higher temperatures and longer processing time. The hydrolysis induced molecular weight decrease fits an exponential decay. 展开更多

In addition, superheated steam drying of wood is a promising technology but this has notbeen widely accepted commercially, partially due to the lack of understanding of the dryingphenomena occurred during drying. In this work, experimental investigation was performed to quantifythe heat transfer between wood surface and surrounding moist air or superheated steam. In theexperiment, saturated radiata pine sapwood samples were dried using dry-bulb/wet-bulb temperaturesof 60℃/50℃, 90℃/60℃, 120℃/70℃, 140℃/90℃, 160℃/90℃, 140℃/100℃ and 160℃/100℃. The lasttwo schedules were for superheated steam drying as the wet-bulb temperature was set at 100℃. Thecirculation velocity over the board surface was controlled at 4.2m·s^(-1). Two additional runs(90℃/60℃) using air velocities of 2.4 m·s^(-1) and 4.8 m·s^(-1) were performed to check theeffect of the circulation velocity. During drying, sample weight and temperatures at wood surfaceand different depths were continuously measured. Prom these measurements, changes in woodtemperature and moisture content were calculated and external heat-transfer coefficient wasdetermined for both the moist air and the superheated steam drying. 展开更多

The result reveals that for both convective heat transfer coefficient and resistance of mass transfer on the surface, superheated steam drying under vacuum is superior to air-drying under the same condition. With Masson pine as specimen, we found that the inversion temperature really exists through comparable experiments of air-drying and superheated steam drying under vacuum. When temperature is above inversion point of temperature, drying speed is faster than that of air-drying; however, if temperature is below the point, the result is opposite. The inversion temperature of experiment ranges from 80 to 85 ℃. 展开更多

When a liquid undergoes sudden reduction in the surrounding pressure below its saturation pressure, the liquid then enters in a metastable state. In order to regain equilibrium, part of the liquid evaporates quickly in a phenomenon called "flash evaporation", and the excess sensible heat contained in the liquid is converted into latent heat of vaporization. Therefore, temperatures of both the liquid and the generated vapor decline to the saturation temperature for the reduced pressure. As the heat and mass transfer occur in direct contact between the liquid and its own vapors, the process involves a very high heat transfer rate which makes it suitable for exchanging heat between sources of relatively small temperature difference. Moreover, dispensability of the heat exchange surfaces in this process is a considerable advantage as these surfaces constitute major part of the total system expenses in addition to the associated maintenance problems, especially when dealing with corrosive fluids such like seawater in the thermal desalination processes and in the OTEC (ocean thermal energy conversion) systems. This paper reports on the heat flux variation profiles during the flash evaporation of superheated water jets at various flow conditions. Heat flax was found to grow with time attaining a peak value before it starts to decrease monotonically. 展开更多

When the superheated steam temperature is high, the thermal efficiency of the unit is relatively high. However, when the superheated steam temperature is too high, the metal material of the steam turbine cannot bear it. If the temperature is too low, the efficiency of the unit will be affected. The stability of superheated steam temperature is very important for the safe and economic operation of the unit, so there are higher requirements for its control. In the whole control system of power plant, there are many factors affecting superheated steam temperature, including steam flow disturbance, flue gas flow disturbance and desuperheating water disturbance. The spray desuperheating method is widely used at present, which is beneficial to the safe operation of superheater. Combined with the operation characteristics of the 300MW unit in Diaobingshan power plant, this paper studies and analyzes the superheated steam temperature control strategy, designs a set of control scheme under all working conditions, sets the relevant control parameters, and verifies its effect through simulation. The superheated steam temperature is regulated by two-stage spray desuperheating, and the first stage desuperheating is arranged at the inlet of platen superheater for coarse regulation of steam temperature. The secondary desuperheater is arranged at the inlet of high temperature superheater for fine adjustment. The superheated steam temperature at the outlet of the boiler is maintained at the set value by adjusting the water spray quantity of the primary and secondary superheaters. 展开更多

The effects of superheating temperature on the grain refining efficiency of Ti existing in electrolytic low-titanium aluminum(ELTA)without and with the Al-4B addition and the Al-5Ti-1B master alloy in pure Al were comparatively investigated. The results show that the Ti existing in ELTA without Al-4B addition exhibits a certain grain refining efficiency when the melt superheating temperature is lower,but the efficiency decreases rapidly when the superheating temperature is higher.The grain refining efficiency of the Al-5Ti-1B master alloy is better than that of the Ti existing in ELTA without Al-4B addition at any superheating temperature,but it also decreases obviously with the increase of the superheating temperature.One important reason is that the TiB2 particles coming from the Al-5Ti-1B master alloy can settle down at the bottom of the Al melt easily when the superheating temperature is increased,thus decrease the number of the potent heterogeneous nuclei retained in the Al melt.If the Al-4B master alloy is added to the ELTA melt,the grain refining efficiency of the Ti existing in ELTA can be improved significantly, and does not decrease with the increase of the superheating temperature.This perhaps provides us a possible method to suppress the effect of the superheated melt on the microstructures of aluminum.. 展开更多

Response of C_(2)H_(2)F_(4)superheated emulsion to quasi-mono-energetic neutrons at low frequency

Background The response of superheated emulsion detector with different halocarbons as active liquid to poly-energetic and mono-energetic neutrons has been carried out by different workers.The C_(2)H_(2)F_(4)detectors have not been explored much.This liquid has shown the potentiality of sensitivity to low-mass dark matter.The previous calibration of this liquid was carried out with the poly-energetic neutrons.Purpose In the present work,to better characterize the detector with neutrons,it is irradiated with quasi-mono-energetic neutrons and the results are compared with neutrons from ^(241)Am-Be.To run the detector for the dark matter search,it is required to calibrate it with neutrons,preferably with mono-energetic neutrons.But mono-energetic neutron is not available at all establishments;hence,it was calibrated with quasi-mono-energetic neutrons.Method The response of superheated emulsion consisting of the droplets of C_(2)H_(2)F_(4)has been studied using the quasi-mono-energetic neutrons.The superheated droplets have been fabricated in a visco-elastic gel matrix.The shock waves generated by the passage of the energetic particles are detected by the acoustic sensors coupled to the emulsion.The measurement has also been carried out for the blank target and beam-off conditions.Results and conclusion It is observed that the(P_(var))response of the emulsion in the low-frequency range is sharper for the quasi-mono-energetic neutrons from ^(7)Li(p,n)reaction and wider for the poly-energetic neutrons from ^(241)Am-Be.The fundamental frequency associated with bubble nucleation(FF values)is similar for the neutrons from ^(7)Li-target and ^(241)Am-Be source.The precise characterization of such detector is required for the application in neutron measurement as well as for the dark matter search experiment apart from the basic understanding of the radiation-induced bubble nucleation. 展开更多

This paper considers the combination of hydrothermal degradation (HTD) and superheated steam (SHS) drying in disposal and processing of degradable organic wastes in municipal solid wastes (MSW). In SHS drying, a fraction of dryer thermal energy input can be recovered and used to satisfy the heat requirement in maintaining the HTD operating temperature. Both energy and exergy analysis are applied to the combined process. The analysis covers ranges of dryer inlet temperatures of 202.38-234.19~C and feed water content of 32.5-65%. Thermal energy analysis shows that the combination of HTD and SHS drying can achieve thermal energy self-sufficiency (TES) by manipulating process variables. The exergy analysis indicates the location, type, and magnitude of the exergy losses during the whole process by applying the second law of thermodynamics. 展开更多

The kinetic viscosities of superheated liquids on the Gd-based bulk glass-forming alloys are measured by an oscillating viscometer in a high vacuum atmosphere. According to the viscosity data,the parameters of superheated liquid fragility,M,are calculated. Based on the values of M in Gd-and Pr-based (cited from the lit-erature) glass-forming alloys,we find that there is a linear correlation between M and the absolute value of mixing enthalpy,|ΔHmix|,in an alloy system with the same base element,and the larger M,the smaller |ΔHmix|. The alloy with larger M exhibits the larger height of energy barriers separating the minima on the potential energy landscape. 展开更多

Drying paddy with low-pressure superheated steam(LPSS)can effectively increase theγ-aminobutyric acid content in paddy.This study aimed to investigate the characteristics and mathematical models(MMs)of thin-layer drying of paddy with LPSS.The experimentally obtained data werefitted by nonlinear regression with 5 MMs commonly used for thin-layer drying to calculate the goodness of fit of the MMs.Then,the thin-layer drying of paddy with LPSS was modeled with two machine learning methods as a Bayesian regularization back propagation(BRBP)neural network and a support vector machine(SVM).The results showed that paddy drying with LPSS is a reduced-rate drying process.The drying temperature and operating pressure have a significant impact on the drying process.Under the same pressure,increasing the drying temperature can accelerate the drying rate.Under the same temperature,increasing the operating pressure can accelerate the drying rate.The comparison of the model evaluation indexes showed that 5 common empirical MMs(Hederson and Pabis,Page,Midilli,Logarithmic,and Lewis)for thin-layer drying can achieve excellent fitting effects for a single experimental condition.However,the regression fitting of the indexes by calculating the coefficient(s)of each model showed that the empirical MMs produce poor fitting effects.The BRBP neural network-based model was slightly better than the SVM-based model,and both were significantly better than the empirical MM(the Henderson and Pabis model),as evidenced by a comparison of the training root mean square error(RMSE),testing RMSE,training mean absolute error(MAE),testing MAE,training R2,and testing R2 of the Henderson and Pabis model,the BRBP neural network model,and the SVM-based model.This results indicate that the MMs established by the two machine learning methods can better predict the moisture content changes in the paddy samples dried by LPSS. 展开更多

The effect of melt superheating treatment on the solidification microstructure and mechanical properties of theγ'phase precipitation-strengthened K424 superalloy was investigated.Differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)experiments were conducted to explore the influence of melt treatment temperature on the undercooling of the superalloy.Additionally,pouring experiments were carried out to assess how alterations in both the temperature and duration of melt treatment impacted the grain size,secondary dendrite arm spacing(SDAS),elemental segregation,and mechanical properties of the alloy.Metallographic analysis,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)and Thermo-Calc software were employed for microstructure characterization.The test specimens were subjected to tensile testing at room temperature and stress rupture testing at 975℃ under 196 MPa.The findings reveal that appropriate melt treatment conditions result in decreased grain size,refined SDAS,minimized elemental segregation,and significant improvements in mechanical properties.Specifically,the study demonstrates that a melt treatment at 1,650℃ for 5 min results in the smallest average grain size of 949μm and the smallest SDAS of 25.38μm.Furthermore,the room temperature tensile properties and creep resistance are notably affected by the melt treatment parameters.It is shown that specific melt treatment conditions,such as holding at 1,650℃ for 5 min,result in superior room temperature strength and extended stress rupture life of the K424 superalloy,while a balance between strength and stability is achieved at 1,600℃ with a holding time of 10 min.These findings offer guidance for optimizing the melt treatment parameters for the K424 superalloy,laying a foundation for further investigations. 展开更多

This study explores the mechanism behind the generation of pressure pulses on the outer surface of a molten metal droplet when immersed in water.The absence of any external trigger is assumed,and the droplet is surrounded by a vapor layer with surface hydrodynamic waves at the vapor-liquid interface.The study examines the heating conditions of a cylindrical column of water used to model a volume of cold liquid interacting with a hot metal surface,which explosively boils upon direct contact.Within the framework of classical homogeneous nucleation theory,the relationship between pressure pulse magnitude and rise time and the size of the contact area and surface temperature of the droplet is established.A criterion for determining the magnitude of the pressure pulse is derived,showing that significant pressure pulses occur within a narrow range of values for this criterion.Experimental investigations have been conducted to measure the key parameters—such as the duration and area of contact and pressure amplitude buildup—when room-temperature water comes into contact with a hot steel surface.The experimental results are compared with the theoretical predictions.Incorporating Skripov’s theory of explosive boiling into the model helps explain the relationship between the pressure pulse and contact area,only when the droplet surface temperature is near or exceeds the temperature of the maximum possible water superheating. 展开更多

The experimental results show that fine equiaxed grains are acquired under the action of low voltage pulsed magnetic field. The refinement effect of the pulsed magnetic field is affected by the melt cooling rate and superheating. The decrease of cooling rate and superheating enhance the refinement effect of the low voltage pulsed magnetic field. The magnetic force and the melt flow during solidification are modeled and simulated to reveal the grain refinement mechanism. It is considered that the melt convection caused by the pulsed magnetic field, as well as cooling rate and superheating contributes to the refinement of solidified grains. 展开更多
