Characteristics and Simulation Analysis of Ground Potential Waveform under Artificially Triggered Lightning

In this study, the ground potential rise(GPR) phenomenon caused by a lightning current injected into a field-shaped artificial grounding grid, as well as the potential difference between two different nodes at the edge of the grounding grid, was observed and analyzed under artificially triggered lightning conditions. Based on circuit theory and measured current data, a π-equivalent circuit was established to simulate the transient response of the grounding grid.Nineteen return strokes from three artificially triggered lightning events were analyzed. The peak currents of the 19 return strokes range from -6.7 to -25.1 kA, and the mean value was -14.3 kA. The GPR decreased rapidly and formed a subpeak after reaching the initial peak, with the mean value of the initial peak being -148.65 kV and the mean value of the subpeak being -92.87 kV. The GPR induced by the triggered lightning currents exhibited a subpeak phenomenon. Simulation results indicate that the subpeak phenomenon is related to localized corrosion of the vertical grounding electrode. The potential difference at the grounding grid edge exhibited a multi-pulse waveform with alternating polarity, dominated by positive pulses. The peak values of both the positive and negative polarity pulses gradually decreased, with the first positive pulse displaying a significantly higher intensity than that of subsequent pulses. 展开更多

This study presents a multi-physical modeling approach to analyze the dynamics of moisture potential and stress-deformation features near deep desiccation cracks in clayey soils under three consecutive years’climate variability in an arid region.A triple research approach of statistical analysis,analytical framework,and numerical modeling was used to investigate the complex thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of desiccation-cracked soil,incorporating realistic climatic data of Qom,Iran.The results revealed the interplay between stress,strain,and pore water pressure over time,demonstrating that soil experiences significant swelling and shrinkage due to cyclic wetting and drying.The horizontal stress distribution shows compressive stress concentration at crack tips during wetting,transitioning to tensile stresses uniformly across the soil surface during drying paths.Similarly,vertical stress distributions exhibit localized compressive stresses along crack boundaries during wetting and tensile stresses during drying,highlighting the critical stress conditions at crack tips.The model differentiates between microstructural and macrostructural changes in porosity.Annual trends in micro-porosity revealed cyclic-dependent behavior,with significant volumetric changes occurring in the first year,stabilizing with successive cycles.The results also indicated that part of the volumetric changes are irreversible,with volumetric plastic strain increasing exponentially but at a decreasing rate over three years.Principal stress analysis indicates a shift from compressive to tensile stress states around cracks,driven by climate-induced wetting and drying cycles.These findings underscore the critical role of climate variability in shaping cracked soil behavior in arid regions,providing insights into the heterogeneous behavior of cracked soil surfFicial layers. 展开更多

Potential Vorticity Perspective of Two Explosive Cyclones over the Northwestern Pacific Ocean

Explosive cyclones(ECs) are rapidly intensifying subtropical cyclones that can develop within a short time and pose considerable threats to coastal areas in middle and high latitudes.Gaining a comprehensive understanding of their formation,evolution,and mechanisms of explosive development is essential for improving forecasts of extreme weather events and mitigating associated impacts.Potential vorticity(PV),which is closely related to cyclone dynamics,serves as a valuable diagnostic tool in the study of ECs.In this study,two wintertime ECs of differing intensity over the Northwestern Pacific Ocean are analyzed to examine how different atmospheric processes influence PV generation and the rapid development of ECs.The maximum deepening rates of the two ECs are 2.81 Bergeron(called EC1) and 1.52 Bergeron(referred to as EC2).Results indicate that different stages of EC evolution are closely associated with PV tendency changes at different atmospheric levels.Using the PV tendency equation,during the explosive development of EC1,latent heat release may trigger the downward propagation of upper-level PV.For EC2,latent heat release notably enhances low-level PV,directly contributing to its rapid intensification.To validate these findings,sensitivity tests are conducted using the Weather Research and Forecasting model,with latent heat release turned off in the microphysical scheme for both cases.The results confirm the crucial role of latent heat release in generating low-level PV,further revealing that latent heat release contributes more to the explosive development of EC2 than that of EC1. 展开更多

Redefining atomistic simulations of all-solid-state batteries through machine learning interatomic potentials

All-solid-state batteries(ASSBs)represent a next-generation energy storage technology,offering enhanced safety,higher energy density,and improved cycling stability compared to conventional liquid-electrolyte-based lithium-ion batteries.Understanding and optimizing the complex chemistries and interfaces that underpin ASSB performance present significant challenges from both experimental and modeling perspectives.In particular,atomistic simulations face difficulties in capturing the complex structure,disorder,and dynamic evolution of materials and interfaces under practically relevant conditions.While established methods such as density functional theory and classical force fields have provided valuable insights,some questions remain difficult to address,particularly those involving large system sizes or long timescales.Recently,machine learning interatomic potentials(MLIPs)have emerged as a transformative tool,enabling atomistic simulations at length and time scales that were previously challenging to access with conventional approaches.By delivering near first-principles accuracy with much greater efficiency,MLIPs open new avenues for large-scale,long-timescale,and high-throughput simulations of solid-state battery materials.In this review,we present a comparative overview of density functional theory,classical force fields,and MLIPs,highlighting their respective strengths and limitations in ASSB research.We then discuss how MLIPs enable simulations that reach longer timescales,larger system sizes,and support high-throughput calculations,providing unique insights into ion transport and interfacial evolution in ASSBs.Finally,we conclude with a summary and outlook on current challenges and future opportunities for expanding MLIP capabilities and accelerating their impact in solid-state battery research. 展开更多

The high-order deformation effects in even-even^(246,248)No are investigated by means of pairing self-consistent WoodsSaxon-Strutinsky calculations using the potential-energy-surface(PES)approach in an extended deformation space(β_(2),β_(3),β_(4),β_(5),β_(6),β_(7),β_(8)).Based on the calculated two-dimensional projected energy maps and different potential energy curves,we found that the highly even-order deformations have an important impact on both the fission trajectory and energy minima,while the odd-order deformations,accompanying the even-order ones,primarily affect the fission path beyond the second barrier.Relative to the light actinide nuclei,the nuclear ground state changes to the superdeformed configuration,but the normally deformed minimum,as the low-energy shape isomer,may still be primarily responsible for enhancing nuclear stability and ensuring experimental accessibility in^(246,248)No.Our present investigation indicates the nonnegligible impact of high-order deformation effects along the fission valley and will be helpful for deepening the understanding of different deformation effects and deformation couplings in nuclei,especially in this neutron-deficient heavy-mass region. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Research has consistently demonstrated that patients with major depressive disorder(MDD)exhibit attentional switching dysfunction,and the dual-task paradigm has emerged as a valuable tool for probing cognitive deficits.However,the neuroelectrophysiological mechanism underlying this deficit has not been clarified.AIM To investigate the event-related potential(ERP)characteristics of attentional switching dysfunction and further explore the neuroelectrophysiological mechanism of the cognitive processing deficits underlying attentional switching dysfunction in MDD.METHODS The participants included 29 MDD patients and 29 healthy controls(HCs).The ERPs of the participants were measured while they performed the dual-task para digm.The behavioral and ERP N100,P200,P300,and late positive potential(LPP)data were analyzed.RESULTS This study revealed greater accuracy in HCs and slower reaction times(RTs)in MDD patients.Angry facial pictures led to lower accuracy.The results also revealed shorter RTs for happy facial pictures and the longest RTs for the 500-ms stimulus onset asynchrony.With respect to ERP characteristics,happy facial pictures and neutral facial pictures evoked higher amplitudes.The N100,P200,P300,and LPP amplitudes at Pz were the highest.MDD patients had lower P200 mean amplitudes and LPP amplitudes than HCs did.CONCLUSION In conclusion,MDD patients exhibited abnormal ERP characteristics evoked by the dual-task paradigm,which could be the neural correlates of the known abnormalities in attentional switching in patients with MDD.These results provide valuable insights into the understanding of the neural mechanisms of attentional switching function and may guide targeted interventions in patients with MDD. 展开更多

The efficient and sustainable removal of refractory high ionization potential(high-IP)organic pollutants remains challenging due to their redox inertness and poor interfacial electron transfer.Herein,we report a suspended photo-Fenton membrane (2D-C_(3)N_(4)/Fe-N-C/GO) that circumvents these limitations via a self-sufficient oxidant generation pathway,enabling low-carbon abatement of high-IP pollutants.This multifunctional architecture couples the visible-light-driven production of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)) by two-dimensional carbon nitride(2D-C_(3)N_(4)) with the Fe-N-C mediated adsorption and activation of electron-deficient species via pyridinic N-Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+) redox pairs.Under light irradiation,photogenerated electrons continuously regenerate Fe^(2+) from Fe^(3+),sustaining reactive oxygen species(·OH)production and promoting efficient oxidative mineralization.The system demonstrates robust long-term performance in both synthetic and real wastewater matrices,achieving superior degradation and chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal.Life cycle assessment(LCA)confirms its environmental superiority over conventional homogeneous Fenton processes,with markedly reduced carbon emissions and ecological impacts.This work offers a mechanistically insightful and practically viable platform for the green,efficient,and durable remediation of high-IP organic pollutants,providing conceptual guidance for next-generation catalytic wastewater treatment technologies. 展开更多

The Neogene Shawan Formation in the Chepaizi Uplift of the Junggar Basin(NW China)has obtained high oil flow,demonstrating a good potential for oil and gas exploration.The multi-source hydrocarbon generation background and strong tectonic activity have led to the simultaneous production of heavy oil and light oil from multi-layer in the area,which makes it very difficult to identify oil origins,presently,the hot debate on the oil origins needs to be clarified.In this paper,due to the selective consumption of different types of compounds in crude oils by severe and intense biodegradation,the commonly used oilsource correlation tools are ineffective or may produce misleading results,this study adopted a biomarker recovery method based on the principle of mass conservation that uses the sum of the mass of the residual biomarkers and their corresponding biodegradation products to obtain the mass of the original biomarkers,improving the reliability of oil origins determination.Based on the nature and occurrence of crude oils,the investigated oils are subdivided into three types,Group A,Group B and Group C.Group A,light oils occurred mainly in lower structure Neogene Shawan Formation in the western Chepaizi Uplift,while Group B,heavy oils occurred mainly in higher structure Neogene Shawan Formation in the western Chepaizi Uplift.The two types of crude oils may come from the mixed source of Jurassic Badaowan Formation source rocks(J_(1)b)and Paleogene Anjihaihe Formation source rocks(E_(2-3)a)in the Sikeshu Sag,and Jurassic Badaowan Formation source rocks(J_(1)b)are the main source of crude oils.Group C,heavy oils occurred mainly in Neogene Shawan Formation in the eastern Chepaizi Uplift,showing good correlation with the Permian(P_(1)f and P_(2)w)source rocks in the Shawan Sag.At the same time,by combining stable carbon isotope and parameters related to triaromatic steroids,the accuracy of the oilsource correlation results by biomarker recovery method was further verified. 展开更多

Geology,carbon emission reduction potential,and development progress of hot dry rock in China

The available heat content (stored heat energy) of hot dry rock (HDR) at a depth of 1–10 km in the global land crust is estimated to be 5.06×10~8 EJ,attracting considerable global attention.This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the geological framework,HDR resource potential,exploration advancements,and the development of enhanced geothermal systems (EGSs) in China.HDR resources are extensively distributed across China.Within the depth range of 3–10 km,China’s estimated potential approximates2.29×10~7 EJ,with a theoretical power generation capacity of approximately 1.67×10^(16) k Wh.Replacing coal power with HDR can help to achieve a net emission reduction of 1.34×10^(16) kg CO_(2) (approximately1.34×10^(13) t),representing an emission reduction efficiency of 94.4%.Based on a development cycle of100 years,the average annual emission reduction reaches 1.34×10^(10) t CO_(2),equivalent to 117%of China’s annual carbon emissions in 2022.Furthermore,in the context of global warming,the development and utilization of HDR,which is feasible in virtually any region worldwide,offers significant potential to support global carbon reduction efforts.China has made substantial progress in HDR exploration in recent years.This paper systematically classifies China’s HDR resources into four genetic types—highly radioactive heat-producing,sedimentary basin,active volcanic,and intensely tectonic zones—and offers detailed exploration insights for each category.Each classification exhibits distinct geological and tectonic characteristics that influence heat source mechanisms and resource distribution.Furthermore,this paper documents significant advances in EGS construction,particularly in the Gonghe Basin on the northeastern margin of the Qianghai-Xizang Plateau and the Matouying uplift in the North China Basin,where successful reservoir stimulation,microseismic monitoring,and experimental power generation have been achieved.Despite these developments,challenges persist,including technical adaptability under complex geological conditions and the economic viability of large-scale HDR development.This paper suggests that future initiatives should emphasize resource exploration,technological research,and policy support to foster sustainable HDR resource development in China,thereby contributing to the global energy transition and environmental sustainability. 展开更多

We present a calculation by including the relativistic and off-shell contributions to the interaction potentials between two spin-1/2 fermions mediated by the exchange of light spin-0 particles,in both momentum and coordinate spaces.Our calculation is based on the four-point Green's function rather than the scattering amplitude.Among the sixteen potential components,eight that vanish in the non-relativistic limit are shown to acquire nonzero relativistic and off-shell corrections.In addition to providing relativistic and off-shell corrections to the operator basis commonly used in the literature,we introduce an alternative operator basis that facilitates the derivation of interaction potentials in the coordinate space.Furthermore,we calculate both the long-range and short-range components of the potentials,which can be useful for future experimental analyses at both macroscopic and atomic scales. 展开更多

Objective Lipid oxidation is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and may be contribute to the development of Ischemic stroke(IS).However,the lipid profiles associated with IS have been poorly studied.We conducted a pilot study to identify potential IS-related lipid molecules and pathways using lipidomic profiling.Methods Serum lipidomic profiling was performed using LC-MS in 20 patients with IS and 20 age-and sex-matched healthy controls.Univariate and multivariate analyses were simultaneously performed to identify the differential lipids.Multiple testing was controlled for using a false discovery rate(FDR)approach.Enrichment analysis was performed using MetaboAnalyst software.Results Based on the 294 lipids assayed,principal component analysis(PCA)and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA)models were used to distinguish patients with IS from healthy controls.Fifty-six differential lipids were identified with an FDR-adjusted P less than 0.05 and variable influences in projection(VIP)greater than 1.0.These lipids were significantly enriched in glycerophospholipid metabolism(FDR-adjusted P=0.009,impact score=0.216).Conclusions Serum lipid profiles differed significantly between patients with IS and healthy controls.Thus,glycerophospholipid metabolism may be involved in the development of IS.These results provide initial evidence that lipid molecules and their related metabolites may serve as new biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets for IS. 展开更多

Chemical short-range order(SRO),a phenomenon at the atomic scale resulting from inhomogeneities in the local chemical environment,is usually studied using machine learning force field-based molecular dynamics simulations due to the limitations of experimental methods.To promote the reliable application of machine potentials in high-entropy alloy simulations,first,this work uses NEP models trained on two different datasets to predict the SRO coefficients of NbMoTaW.The results show that within the same machine learning framework,there are significant differences in the prediction of SRO coefficients for the Nb-Nb atomic pair.Subsequently,this work predicts the SRO coefficients of NbMoTaW using the NEP model and the SNAP model,both of which are trained on the same dataset.The results reveal significant discrepancies in SRO predictions for like-element pairs(e.g.,Nb-Nb and W-W)between the two potentials,despite the identical training data.The findings of this study indicate that discrepancies in the prediction results of SRO coefficients can arise from either the same machine learning framework trained on different datasets or different learning frameworks trained on the same dataset.This reflects possible incompleteness in the current training set's coverage of local chemical environments at the atomic scale.Future research should establish unified evaluation standards to assess the capability of training sets to accurately describe complex atomic-scale behaviors such as SRO. 展开更多

We present a comprehensive study of the CO_(2)-CO interaction potential using a 9-dimensional(9D)potential energy surface(PES)constructed with the fundamental invariant-neural networks(FINN)method.The PES was generated from 65330 CCSD(T)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ ab initio data points,with counterpoise correction,applied to eliminate basis set superposition error(BSSE).We performed quasi-classical trajectory simulations using this PES to investigate the rotational energy transfer dynamics.Our results reveal complex energy transfer mechanisms,with significant rotational excitation and relaxation dependent on collision energy and initial rotational states.The 9D PES provides a more accurate representation of the CO_(2)-CO system,offering new insights into molecular dynamics and interaction mechanisms. 展开更多

Background:Pistacia integerrima,a cornerstone of traditional medicine,is renowned for its therapeutic applications against various health conditions,including cancer and hepatitis.This study investigates the pharmacological potential of bioactive compounds derived from Pistacia integerrima in inhibiting 5-lipoxygenase(5-LOX),a key enzyme implicated in inflammation and cancer progression.The current study aimed to evaluate the lipoxygenase inhibitory activity of bioactive compounds from Pistacia integerrima and assess their potential for therapeutic development in the context of inflammation and cancer treatment.Methods:Three major compounds-spinacetin(1),patuletin(2),and pistagremic acid(3)-were isolated from Pistacia integerrima and analyzed for their lipoxygenase inhibitory activity.Biochemical assays and molecular docking studies were performed to assess their effectiveness in inhibiting 5-LOX.Results:All three compounds demonstrated significant inhibition of lipoxygenase activity.Spinacetin(1)and patuletin(2)exhibited the most potent inhibitory effects,with IC_(50)values of 40.34μM and 45.04μM,respectively.Molecular docking studies revealed that patuletin(2)had the highest binding affinity(−7.717 kcal/mol)against 5-LOX,followed by spinacetin(1)with a binding affinity of−6.074 kcal/mol.In-depth in silico analysis highlighted the drug-likeness of spinacetin(1)and its favorable toxicological profile,suggesting its suitability for therapeutic development.Conclusion:The study demonstrates that compounds from Pistacia integerrima,particularly spinacetin and patuletin,have significant lipoxygenase inhibitory activity,with spinacetin showing promise as a lead candidate for lipoxygenase-targeted therapies.The findings reinforce the therapeutic relevance of Pistacia integerrima and suggest that its bioactive compounds may serve as safer,plant-based alternatives to conventional anti-inflammatory and anticancer treatments. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The neural mechanisms underlying aggressive behavior in schizophrenia(SCZ)remain poorly understood.To date,no studies have reported on the event-related potential(ERP)characteristics of aggression in SCZ using the competitive reaction time task(CRTT).Further investigation into the ERP correlates of aggression in SCZ would provide valuable insights into the neural processes involved.AIM To explore the neural mechanism of aggressive behavior in SCZ.METHODS Participants of this study included 40 SCZ patients and 42 healthy controls(HCs).The Reactive Proactive Aggression Questionnaire was used to assess trait of aggression.The Barratt Impulsiveness Scale 11 was used to measure impulsiveness.The Positive and Negative Symptom Scale(PANSS)was used to evaluate psychopathological features and disease severity.All participants were measured with ERP while performing the CRTT.Data of behavior,ERP components(P2,N2,and P3),and feedback-related negativity(FRN)were analyzed.RESULTS Analysis of the behavioral data revealed that compared with HCs,SCZ patients exhibited higher punishment choices.Analysis of ERP components showed that compared with HCs,SCZ patients exhibited higher N2 amplitudes and P2 amplitudes during the decision phase of the CRTT;however,SCZ patients exhibited lower FRN amplitudes and lower P3 amplitudes during the outcome phase of the CRTT.The N2 amplitudes evoked by highintensity provocation were positively related to PANSS-P scores.And the P3 amplitudes evoked in the winning trials were negatively correlated with the PANSS-G scores.CONCLUSION SCZ patients exhibit abnormal ERP characteristics evoked by the CRTT,which suggests the neural correlates of aggressive behavior in SCZ. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Patients with major depression(MD)exhibit conditional reasoning dysfunction;however,no studies on the event-related potential(ERP)characteristics of conditional reasoning in MD have been reported.AIM To investigate the ERP characteristics of conditional reasoning in MD patients and explore the neural mechanism of cognitive processing.METHODS Thirty-four patients with MD and 34 healthy controls(HCs)completed ERP measurements while performing the Wason selection task(WST).The clusterbased permutation test in FieldTrip was used to compare the differences in the mean amplitudes between the patients with MD and HCs on the ERP components under different experimental conditions.Behavioral data[accuracy(ACC)and reaction times(RTs)],the ERP P100 and late positive potentials(LPPs)were analyzed.RESULTS Although the mean ACC was greater and the mean of RTs was shorter in HCs than in MD patients,the differences were not statistically significant.However,across both groups,the ACC in the precautionary WST was greater than that in the other tasks,and the RTs in the abstract task were greater than those in the other tasks.Importantly,compared with that of HCs,the P100 of the left centroparietal sites was significantly increased,and the early LPP was attenuated at parietal sites and increased at left frontocentral sites;the medium LPP and late LPP were increased at the left frontocentral sites.CONCLUSION Patients with MD have conditional reasoning dysfunction and exhibit abnormal ERP characteristics evoked by the WST,which suggests neural correlates of abnormalities in conditional reasoning function in MD patients. 展开更多

Study of the potential predictability of ENSO with different phases and intensities in the CESM

The inherent asymmetry and diversity of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)pose substantial challenges to its prediction.Potential predictability measures the upper limit of predictability for a certain event.Assessing the potential predictability of ENSO across varying phases and intensities with sophisticated climate models is crucial for understanding the upper limits of forecasting capabilities and identifying room for future enhancement.Based on the hindcast dataset with a recently developed ensemble forecasting system(the community earth system model,CESM),this study comprehensively investigates potential predictability for ENSO across different phases and intensities.The findings reveal that La Niña events possess higher potential predictability relative to their El Niño counterparts.Strong events exhibit significantly higher potential predictability than weak events within the same phase.The potential predictability of distinct ENSO types is primarily influenced by the seasonal variation inherent to their predictability.Regardless of the event classification,the potential predictability is characterized by a rapid decline from spring onwards,with the apex of this decline occurring in summer.The intensity of the seasonal predictability barrier inversely correlates with the upper limit of potential predictability.Specifically,a weaker(stronger)seasonal barrier is associated with a higher(lower)potential predictability.In addition,there is significant interdecadal variability both in the predictability of warm and cold ENSO events.The potential predictability for La Niña events decreases more slowly with increasing lead months,particularly in recent decades,resulting in an overall higher upper limit of potential predictability for La Niña events than for El Niño events over the past century.Nevertheless,El Niño events have also maintained a high potential predictability.This suggests substantial potential for improvement in future prediction for both. 展开更多
