Existing approaches for addressing long-term extreme responses are extremely cumbersome for adoption. This work aims to develop an approach for the long-term extreme-response analysis of floating structures. A modified gradient-based retrieval algorithm in conjunction with the inverse first-order reliability method(IFORM) is proposed to enable the use of convolution models in long-term extreme analysis of structures with an analytical formula of response amplitude operator(RAO). The proposed algorithm ensures convergence stability and iteration accuracy and exhibits a higher computational efficiency than the traditional backtracking method. However, when the RAO of general offshore structures cannot be analytically expressed, the convolutional integration method fails to function properly. A numerical discretization approach is further proposed for offshore structures in the case when the analytical expression of the RAO is not feasible. Through iterative discretization of environmental contours(ECs) and RAOs, a detailed procedure is proposed to calculate the long-term response extremes of offshore structures. The validity and accuracy of the proposed approach are tested using a floating offshore wind turbine as a numerical example. The long-term extreme heave responses of various return periods are calculated via the IFORM in conjunction with a numerical discretization approach. The environmental data corresponding to N-year structural responses are located inside the ECs, which indicates that the selection of design points directly along the ECs yields conservative design results.展开更多

Based on dynamic theory and the vibration characteristics of underground structures, the sources of errors when using this method are analyzed. The traditional seismic motion loading approach is replaced by a method in which a one-dimensional soil layer response stress is differentiated and then converted into seismic live loads. To validate the improved method, a comparison of analytical results is conducted for internal forces under earthquake shaking of a typical shallow embedded box-shaped subway station structure using four methods: the response displacement method, finite element response acceleration method, the finite element dynamic analysis method and the improved pseudo-static calculation method. It is shown that the improved finite element pseudo-static method proposed in this paper provides an effective tool for the seismic design of underground structures. The evaluation yields results close to those obtained by the finite element dynamic analysis method, and shows that the improved finite element pseudo-static method provides a higher degree of precision.展开更多

Two types of independent topological variable are used to identify the presence of elements and select the material for each phase, to realize the interpolations of the element stiffness matrix and total weight. Furthermore, an explicit expression for the optimized formulation is derived, using approximations of the displacement and weight given by first- and second-order Taylor expansions. The optimization problem is thereby transformed into a standard quadratic programming problem that can be solved using a sequential quadratic programming approach. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed multimaterial topology optimization method are demonstrated by determining the best load transfer path for four numerical examples. The results reveal that the topologically optimized configuration of the multimaterial structure varies with the material properties, load conditions, and constraint. Firstly, the weight of the optimized multimaterial structure is found to be lower than that composed of a single material. Secondly, under the precondition of a displacement constraint, the weight of the topologically optimized multimaterial structure decreases as the displacement constraint value is increased. Finally, the topologically optimized multimaterial structures differ depending on the elastic modulus of the materials. Besides, the established optimization formulation is more reliable and suitable for use in practical engineering applications with structural performance parameters as constraint.展开更多

Design requirements are adjusted at the system level according to structural deformation, while the layout is optimized at the subsystem level to satisfy the constraints from system level. The approaching degrees of various failure critical loads in wing panels are employed to gauge the structure’s carrying efficiency. By optimizing the efficiency as an objective, the continuity of the problem could be guaranteed. Stiffened wing panels are modeled by the equivalent orthotropic plates, and the global buckling load is predicted by energy method. The nonlinear effect of stringers’ support elasticity on skin local buckle resistance is investigated and approximated by neural network (NN) surrogate model. These failure predictions are based on analytical solutions, which could effectively save calculation resources. Finally, the integral optimization of a large-scale wing structure is completed as an example. The result fulfills design requirements and shows the feasibility of this method.展开更多

An analytic method of the relationship between loads and the structure displacement is developed based on the failure mode of deep embedded large cylinder structures. It can be used to calculate directly the soil resistance and the ultimate bearing capacity of the structure under usage. A new criterion of the large cylinder structure, which discriminates the deep embedded cylinder from the shallow embedded cylinder, is defined. In this paper, an enhanced WFEM has been developed with a reduced model and a new eigenvalue scheme. The reduced model is applicable for structures with piezoelectric shunts or local dampers;the new eigenvalue scheme can mitigate the ill-conditioning when the wave basis is calculated. The enhanced WFEM is applied to a thin-wall structure with periodically distributed piezoelectric materials(PZT). Both free wave characteristics and forced response are analyzed and the influences of the suggested enhancements are presented. It is shown that if the control factors are properly chosen, these enhancements can improve the accuracy while accelerating the calculation. Resulting from the complexity of the application, these enhancements are not optional but imperative.展开更多

Besides, the established optimization formulation is more reliable and suitable for use in practical engineering applications with structural performance parameters as constraint.

文摘Microseismic/acoustic emission(MS/AE)source localization method is crucial for predicting and controlling of potentially dangerous sources of complex structures. However, the locating errors induced by both the irregular structure and pre-measured velocity are poorly understood in existing methods. To meet the high-accuracy locating requirements in complex three-dimensional hole-containing structures,a velocity-free MS/AE source location method is developed in this paper. It avoids manual repetitive training by using equidistant grid points to search the path, which introduces A*search algorithm and uses grid points to accommodate complex structures with irregular holes. It also takes advantage of the velocity-free source location method. To verify the validity of the proposed method,lead-breaking tests were performed on a cubic concrete test specimen with a size of 10 cm10 cm10 cm.It was cut out into a cylindrical empty space with a size of/6cm10 cm.Based on the arrivals, the classical Geiger method and the proposed method are used to locate lead-breaking sources. Results show that the locating error of the proposed method is 1.20 cm,which is less than 2.02 cm of the Geiger method.Hence, the proposed method can effectively locate sources in the complex three-dimensional structure with holes and achieve higher precision requirements.
文摘Thin structures are generally solved by the Finite Element Method(FEM), using plate or shell finite elements which have manylimitations in applications, such as numerical locking, edge effects, length scaling and the cnvergence problem. Recently, by proposing anew approach to tranting the nearly- singular integrals, Liu et al.developed a BEM to successfully solve thin structures with thethickness-to- length ratios in the micro-or nano-scales. On the otherhand, the meshless Regular Hybrid Boundary Node Method (RHBNM), whichis proposed by the current authors and based on a modified functionaland the Moving Least-Square (MLS) approximation, has very promisingapplications for engineering problems owing To its meshless natureand dimension-reduction advantage, and not involving any singular ornearly-singular Integrals. Test examples show that the RHBNM can alsobe applied readily to thin structures with high accu- Racy withoutany modification.

文摘A two-level layout optimization strategy is proposed in this paper for large-scale composite wing structures. The result fulfills design requirements and shows the feasibility of this method.
文摘Vibration monitoring by virtual sensing methods has been well developed for linear timeinvariant structures with limited sensors. However, few methods are proposed for Time-Varying(TV)structures which are inevitable in aerospace engineering. The core of vibration monitoring for TV structures is to describe the TV structural dynamic characteristics with accuracy and efficiency. This paper propose a new method using the Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)networks for Continuously Variable Configuration Structures(CVCSs),which is an important subclass of TV structures. The configuration parameters are used to represent the time-varying dynamic characteristics by the‘‘freezing"method. The relationship between TV dynamic characteristics and vibration responses is established by LSTM,and can be generalized to estimate the responses with unknown TV processes benefiting from the time translation invariance of LSTM.A numerical example and a liquid-filled pipe experiment are used to test the performance of the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately estimate the unmeasured responses for CVCSs to reveal the actual characteristics in time-domain and modal-domain.Besides,the average one-step estimation time of responses is less than the sampling interval. Thus, the proposed method is promising to on-line estimate the important responses of TV structures.
文摘The large cylinder is a new-type structure that has been applied to harbor and offshore engineering. Model tests prove that the proposed method is feasible for the analysis of deep embedded large cylinder structures.
文摘Based on the matching conditions of different fluid regions, the eigenfunction expansion method is used to develop a theoretical formula for wave reflection in front of the perforated structure with a partially slit front wall. The accuracy of the solution is verified by comparing the numerical results with experimental data. In addition, a new hydraulic design method is developed by derivation of the theoretical formula with respect to the porosity of the slit wall, and the results of this design method is drafted for harbour engineers to use.

文摘As a promising numerical tool of structural dynamics in mid- and high frequencies, the wave and finite element method(WFEM) is receiving increasingly attention and applications. Resulting from the complexity of the application, these enhancements are not optional but imperative.

文摘Weight reduction has attracted much attention among ship designers and ship owners. In the present work, based on an improved bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization(BESO) method and surrogate model method,we propose a hybrid optimization method for the structural design optimization of beam-plate structures, which covers three optimization levels:dimension optimization, topology optimization and section optimization. The objective of the proposed optimization method is to minimize the weight of design object under a group of constraints. The kernel optimization procedure(KOP) uses BESO to obtain the optimal topology from a ground structure. To deal with beam-plate structures, the traditional BESO method is improved by using cubic box as the unit cell instead of solid unit to construct periodic lattice structure. In the first optimization level,a series of ground structures are generated based on different dimensional parameter combinations, the KOP is performed to all the ground structures, the response surface model of optimal objective values and dimension parameters is created, and then the optimal dimension parameters can be obtained. In the second optimization level, the optimal topology is obtained by using the KOP according to the optimal dimension parameters. In the third optimization level, response surface method(RSM) is used to determine the section parameters. The proposed method is applied to a hatch cover structure design. The locations and shapes of all the structural members are determined from an oversized ground structure. The results show that the proposed method leads to a greater weight saving, compared with the original design and genetic algorithm(GA) based optimization results.

文摘The stiffness spreading method (SSM) was initially proposed for layout optimization of truss structures,in which an artificial elastic material of low modulus is uniformly distributed in the design domain to create connections between discrete members. In this paper,a modified stiffness spreading method is proposed by replacing the artificial elastic material with auxiliary bars to connect real members of the truss structure.Since the background continuum mesh for the elastic material is no longer required, the computational cost is significantly reduced.Like SSM,the new method is advantageous in that an initial design may consist of disconnected bars allocated in the design domain, and mathematical programming methods can be applied for the efficient solution of the formulated optimization problem.A number of solution strategies are also developed to achieve more practical designs with lower computational cost.Numerical examples of both 2-D and 3-D truss structures are presented to demonstrate the feasibility, robustness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

文摘Nowadays,an increasing number of ships and marine structures are manufactured and inevitably operated in rough sea.As a result, some phenomena related to the violent fluid-elastic structure interactions(e.g.,hydrodynamic slamming on marine vessels, tsunami impact on onshore structures, and sloshing in liquid containers)have aroused huge challenges to ocean engineering fields. In this paper, the moving particle semi-implicit(MPS)method and finite element method(FEM)coupled method is proposed for use in numerical investigations of the interaction between a regular wave and a horizontal suspended structure. The fluid domain calculated by the MPS method is dispersed into fluid particles, and the structure domain solved by the FEM method is dispersed into beam elements. The generation of the 2D regular wave is firstly conducted, and convergence verification is performed to determine appropriate particle spacing for the simulation.Next, the regular wave interacting with a rigid structure is initially performed and verified through the comparison with the laboratory experiments.By verification, the MPS-FEM coupled method can be applied to fluid-structure interaction(FSI)problems with waves. On this basis, taking the flexibility of structure into consideration, the elastic dynamic response of the structure subjected to the wave slamming is investigated, including the evolutions of the free surface, the variation of the wave impact pressures, the velocity distribution, and the structural deformation response.By comparison with the rigid case, the effects of the structural flexibility on wave-elastic structure interaction can be obtained.
