40 Hz Auditory Steady State Response to Linguistic Features of Stimuli during Auditory Hallucinations 被引量:1

The auditory steady state response (ASSR) may reflect activity from different regions of the brain, depending on the modulation frequency used. In general, responses induced by low rates (_〈40 Hz) emanate mostly from central structures of the brain, and responses from high rates (〉80 Hz) emanate mostly from the peripheral auditory nerve or brainstem structures. Besides, it was reported that the gamma band ASSR (30-90 Hz) played an important role in working memory, speech understanding and recognition. This paper investigated the 40 Hz ASSR evoked by modulated speech and reversed speech. The speech was Chinese phrase voice, and the noise-like reversed speech was obtained by temporally reversing the speech. Both auditory stimuli were modulated with a frequency of 40 Hz. Ten healthy subjects and 5 patients with hallucination symptom participated in the experiment. Results showed re- duction in left auditory cortex response when healthy subjects listened to the reversed speech compared with the speech. In contrast, when the patients who experienced auditory hallucinations listened to the reversed speech, the auditory cortex of left hemispheric responded more actively. The ASSR results were consistent with the behavior results of patients. Therefore, the gamma band ASSR is expected to be helpful for rapid and objective diagnosis of hallucination in clinic. 展开更多

Do US states’responses to COVID-19 restore investor sentiment?Evidence from S&P 500 financial institutions

This paper specifically investigates the effects of US government emergency actions on the investor sentiment–financial institution stock returns relationship.Despite attempts by many studies,the literature still provides no answers concerning this nexus.Using a new firm-specific Twitter investor sentiment(TS)metric and performing a panel smooth transition regression for daily data on 66 S&P 500 financial institutions from January 1 to December 31,2020,we find that TS acts asymmetrically,nonlinearly,and time varyingly according to the pandemic situation and US states’responses to COVID-19.In other words,we uncover the nexus between TS and financial institution stock returns and determine that it changes with US states’reactions to COVID-19.With a permissive government response(the first regime),TS does not impact financial institution stock returns;however,when moving to a strict government response(the overall government response index exceeds the 63.59 threshold),this positive effect becomes significant in the second regime.Moreover,the results show that the slope of the transition function is high,indicating an abrupt rather than a smooth transition between the first and second regimes.The results are robust and have important policy implications for policymakers,investment analysts,and portfolio managers. 展开更多

Using microbial fermentation to increase the content of free amino acids and short peptides in the organic fertilizer for castor bean meal can effectively promote plant growth and improve fruit quality.Using free amino acid and short peptide content as an indicator,through single factor and response surface optimization experiments,the process parameters(moisture content,fermentation time and inoculum quantity)of castor meal solid-state fermentation were optimized.The best process parameters for the solid-state fermentation were:the moisture content 62%,the fermentation time 20 d,and the inoculum quantity 0.23%.The moisture content had the greatest impact on the conversion rate of free amino acids and short peptides,and the protein conversion rate reached 65.6%.The scale-up experiment under the optimal conditions showed that the solid-state fermentation using the inoculum had a significant beneficial effect compared with other fermentation methods.The fermentation of castor cake fertilizer provides a theoretical and practical basis for production feasibility,and has important guiding significance for the effective utilization of castor bean meal. 展开更多

Spatial Relationships and Driving Mechanisms of Ecosystem Health in Urbanization:A Case Study of Wuhan,China

Rapid urbanization has markedly affected urban ecosystem health(EH),making it imperative to explore the relationships between EH and urbanization,as well as to identify the key factors influencing EH.This study addresses 2 key research gaps:(a)The traditional pressure–state–response evaluation framework fails to integrate ecosystem service demands and landscape pattern indices and has not formed a comprehensive EH evaluation system.(b)There is a lack of research on investigating the drivers and thresholds of EH across the areas in different spatial relationship between urbanization and EH at the urban scale.Here,taking Wuhan,China,as an example,this study assesses EH utilizing an optimized pressure–state–response evaluation framework.Additionally,bivariate Moran’s I is used to analyze the spatial relationship between EH and urbanization.We use gradient boosting decision trees to flexibly model the nonlinear relationships between influencing factors and EH,while Shapley additive explanations quantify each factor’s contribution,enhancing model interpretability and clarifying their effects on EH.The findings reveal a spatial distribution pattern characterized by lower EH levels in central areas and higher EH levels in periphery areas,with a notable negative spatial correlation between EH and urbanization.The spatial heterogeneity and clustering of EH and urbanization across Wuhan exhibit a ringlike pattern radiating from the center to the periphery.Landscape pattern index and land use are identified as key influencing factors of EH in Wuhan,with substantial regional variation,necessitating targeted environmental protection strategies.This study offers insights into urban planning and policymaking,promoting sustainable urban development. 展开更多

To enhance the performance of the drive, this paper proposes a Brain Emotional Logic Based Intelligent Controller based chopper drive. The proposed drive scheme has been simulated using Matlab/Simulink and physically realized for validation. A comparative analysis has been made between the conventional PI controller based drive and the proposed system in order to prove that the proposed scheme has an edge over the traditional PI controller scheme counterpart. 展开更多

Physical parameters are very important for vehicle dynamic modeling and analysis.However,most of physical parameter identification methods are assuming some physical parameters of vehicle are known,and the other unknown parameters can be identified.In order to identify physical parameters of vehicle in the case that all physical parameters are unknown,a methodology based on the State Variable Method(SVM) for physical parameter identification of two-axis on-road vehicle is presented.The modal parameters of the vehicle are identified by the SVM,furthermore,the physical parameters of the vehicle are estimated by least squares method.In numerical simulations,physical parameters of Ford Granada are chosen as parameters of vehicle model,and half-sine bump function is chosen to simulate tire stimulated by impulse excitation.The first numerical simulation shows that the present method can identify all of the physical parameters and the largest absolute value of percentage error of the identified physical parameter is 0.205%;and the effect of the errors of additional mass,structural parameter and measurement noise are discussed in the following simulations,the results shows that when signal contains 30 d B noise,the largest absolute value of percentage error of the identification is 3.78%.These simulations verify that the presented method is effective and accurate for physical parameter identification of two-axis on-road vehicles.The proposed methodology can identify all physical parameters of 7-DOF vehicle model by using free-decay responses of vehicle without need to assume some physical parameters are known. 展开更多

Remedies for loss and damage caused by climate change from the dimension of climate justice

Adverse consequences to the ecological system and human health caused by impacts potentially attributable to climate change have already drawn great and widespread concern of many scientists and international organizations.However,we still have a hard time determining exactly the impact of climate change on the environment or the damage that climate change inflicts on countries comprising small islands or low-lying lands in light of today's science and technology.The progress for dealing with the issue of loss and damage has been struggling for a long time from the beginning to the present.In this paper,the author begins by summarizing talks on the concept and the positions of commentators.The author is proposing that the development of future climate negotiations and rule-making process be based on global climate justice as a standard for measuring value.Also,the author proposes that a holistic view of climate justice be established.Generally,three aspects of climate justice can be derived.First,the dimension of human rights protection shows that protection of fundamental human rights is a logical precondition if small-island and low-lying countries are able to achieve climate justice.Second,the definite and traditional concepts of distributive justice and corrective justice hold the view that the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities should be upheld as a basic standard of allocating rights and duties associated with climate change.Third,climate justice requires that any state follow the "no-harm principle," which is regarded as an international customary rule.According to the principle,the obligation of states to prevent the use of their territory for causing trans-boundary harm to the environment shall be a violation of state responsibility,which incurs international punishment.Then we put forward three remedial approaches in light of climate justice,including the approach of State Responsibility(SR) based on the principles and rules of international human rights law and international environmental law.Based on clear rules,the judge can determine whether the damaging behavior or the damage perpetrated by a state party constitutes a state responsibility.The International Environmental Regulation(IEB),which means solving the problems within the framework established by the Conventions on Climate Change,takes advantage of the market mechanisms and incentives such as fund and insurance support system to relieve or compensate the loss and damage.International Environmental Dispute Settlement Mechanism(IEDSM),which includes the means such as consultations,negotiations,nonmandatory ways and international arbitration,international judicial ways to solve these disputes,functions as a procedural safeguard.As an active promoter of global climate governance,China should no doubt stand by the principle of Common But Differentiated Responsibility(CBDR) and take it as a basis for negotiations,actively strengthen the work of South-South cooperation,fulfill her international climate commitments without reservation,vigorously develop a low-carbon economy,and actively promote international negotiations on the subject of loss and damage. 展开更多

A Mixture Modeling Approach to Detect Different Behavioral Patterns for Process Data

Process data recorded by computer-based assessments reflect how respondents solve problems and thus contain rich information about respondents as well as tasks.Considering that different respondents may exhibit different behavioral characteristics during problem-solving process,in this study,we propose a mixture one-parameter state response(Mix1P-SR)measurement model.This model assumes that respondents belong to discrete latent classes with different propensities towards responses to task states during the problem-solving process,and the varying response propensities are captured by different state parameters across classes.A Markov Chain Monte Carlo algorithm for the estimation of model parameters and classification of respondents is described.The simulation study shows that the Mix1P-SR model could recover parameters well on the premise that the average sequence length was not too short.Moreover,larger sample size,longer sequences,more uniform mixing proportions,and lower interclass similarity facilitated model convergence,model selection,and parameter estimation accuracy,with sequence length being particularly important.Based on the empirical data from PISA 2012,the Mix1P-SR model identified two latent classes of respondents.They had different patterns of state easiness parameters and exhibited different state response patterns,which affected their problem solving results.Implications for model application and future research directions are discussed. 展开更多

This study develops a flexible latent class model(LCM)to investigate the electric vehicle(EV)type choice decisions of Halifax residents.It utilizes cross-sectional data from the 2022 Halifax Travel Activity(HaliTRAC)survey,which includes questions related to EV adoption.This study also analyzes eight attitudes and lifestyle preferences related state-ments using the principal component analysis(PCA)technique,and finally extracts three components labeled as“EV enthusiasts”,“sustainable travellers”,and“remote work arrangement admirers”.This paper explores the heterogeneity between two classes for dif-ferent alternative vehicle type choices,e.g.,battery electric vehicle(BEV),plug-in hybrid electric vehicle(PHEV),hybrid electric vehicle(HEV),and regular internal combustion engine(ICE)vehicle.Based on class membership attributes,class-1 can be identified as those who live in suburban areas,have a large family with high vehicle ownership,and are interested in travelling with their family members,especially with their children and vice-versa for class-2.Results suggest that variables across two classes portray heterogene-ity,e.g.,full-time worker portray positive correlation for class-1 and negative to class-2;high annual household income group(more than$200000)exhibit high propensity to choose BEV in class-2 and vice-versa for class-1.Sustainable travelers emphasize the adverse connection towards regular vehicles,while EV enthusiasts demonstrate a favorable association with embracing any type of EV(e.g.,BEV,PHEV,or HEV).Furthermore,the find-ings from this analysis provide guidance for policy measures such as offering purchase incentives,expanding charging infrastructure,and implementing tax rebates to promote the uptake of EVs among the residents of Halifax. 展开更多

This article is concerned with the influence of welfare culture on society's old age support institutions and practice. It examines the development of old age support programs in contemporary China from a cultural perspective in an attempt to reveal the interaction between social welfare patterns for the elderly and social policy-makers' conception of social welfare and traditional social welfare culture. What stands in the way of the transition of Chinese social welfare for the elderly fi'om a residual to an institutional model is a value system founded on restrictions and lack of awareness of civil fights. These factors limit the role of social welfare in narrowing the gaps between different social strata in the aged population and lead to inequitable welfare resource distribution. Although an aging population and the diffusion of welfare state culture are pushing the Chinese social welfare system toward diversified development, its final establishment still depends on a reexamination by the public and policy-makers of the relationship between individual citizens and the state. 展开更多
