The effect of viscosity 01), basicity (B = [OH]/[Al]) and organic content (Wp) on the flocculation performance as well as the mechanism of PAC-EPI-DMA flocculant were investigated. The η was the key factor affecting the dye removal efficiency of PAC-EPI-DMA. PAC-EPI-DMA with an intermediate η (2400 mPa.sec) gave higher decolorization efficiency by adsorption bridging and charge neutralization due to the co-effect of PAC and EPI-DMA polymers. The Wp of the composite flocculant was a minor important factor for the flocculation. The adsorption bridging of PAC-EPI-DMA with η of 300 or 4300 mPa.sec played an important role with the increase of Wp, whereas the charge neutralization of them was weaker with the increase of Wp. There was interaction between Wp and B on the removal of reactive dye. The composite flocculant with intermediate viscosity and organic content was effective for the treatment of reactive dyeing wastewater, which could achieve high reactive dye removal efficiency with low organic dosage.展开更多

In this paper, a cleaner method with microwave irradiation and alkali solidification was proposed for preparing high pure DADMAC by selective heating under low temperature, and the prepared high purity DADMAC is characterized using FTIR and atomic absorption spectrometry. The new method provides a solution to the key technical problem of PDADMAC synthesis. Comparing with the conventional methods, the results showed that the advantages of the novel synthesis include: (a) high purity DADMAC is improved from 57% to 71% ; (b) reaction time of tertiary amine preparation is shortened from 6 h to 7 min; (c) water instead of acetone was used as reaction medium; (d) toxic by-products, wastewater and waste gas are eliminated. Flocculant made from the synthesized high purity DADMAC monomers was proved more efficient in flocculation tests.展开更多

The content of carboxymethyl groups in each CMC-CTA sample was kept almost constant. The solubility of the various flocculants showed that, higher cationic content of flocculants caused a better solubility. The flocculation experiments using kaolin suspension as synthetic water at the laboratory scale indicated that the substitution degree of CTA was one of the key factors for the flocculation properties. With the increase of cationic content, the flocculants were demonstrated better flocculation performance and lower dosage requirement. Flocculation kinetics model of particles collisions combining zeta potential and turbidity measurements was employed to investigate the effects of the cationic content of the flocculants on the flocculation properties from the viewpoint of flocculation mechanism in detail. Furthermore, flocculation performance using raw water from Zhenjiang part of Yangtze River at the pilot scale showed the similar effects to those at the laboratory scale.展开更多

Methods The chemical group in the bioflocculant molecules was shown by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra, and the average molecular weight of MBF7 was estimated by gel permeation chromatography. The effects of medium components on bioflocculant production and flocculating activity were studied. Results Phospho-, amino-, hydroxyl, and carboxyl groups were the major fractions of MBF7, and the molecule weight was about 3.0 × 10^5 Da. In addition, the carbon and nitrogen sources favorable for the bioflocculant production were glucose and yeast extract respectively. When the initial pH of the medium was adjusted to 5.0, high flocculant efficiency could be achieved. Conclusion The bioflocculant MBF7 is a new macromolecule with high flocculating efficiency for Kaolin suspension, and could be produced under appropriate culture conditions.展开更多

CMCNa was produced by chemical modification of cellulose, and represents many advantages: natural, renewable, non-toxic and biodegradable. In this study, different kinds of CMCNa, prepared from an agricultural waste date palm rachis, were tested as eco-friendly flocculants for drinking water treatment and their performances as flocculants in turbidity removal enhancement were assessed. The prepared materials were characterized by the degree of substitution (DS) and polymerisation (DP). The study of the effect of some experimental parameters on the coagulation-flocculation performance, using the prepared materials combined with aluminium sulphate (as coagulant), showed that the best conditions for turbidity treatment were given for pH 8, coagulant dose 20 mg/L, flocculant concentration of 100 mg/L and stirring velocity (during the flocculation step) of 30 r/min. Under the optimum conditions, the turbidity removal using CMCNa, prepared from raw material, was about 95%. A comparison study between the flocculation performance of a commercial anionic flocculant (A100PWG: polyacrylamide) and that of the prepared CMCNa showed that the performance of the waste-based flocculant with a DS of 1.17 and a DP of 480 was 10% better than that achieved by the commercial one.展开更多

To investigate the removal of Fe^3+ and Pb^2+, two representative metals in wastewater, through the precipitation of carbonate minerals by a microbial flocculant (MBF) produced by Bacillus mucilaginosus. MBF was added to synthetic wastewater containing different Fe^3+ and Pb^2+ concentrations, and the extent of flocculation was analyzed. CO2 was bubbled into the mixture of MBF and Fe^3+/Pb^2+ to initiate the reaction. The solid substrates were analyzed via X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The results showed that the removal efficiency decreased and the MBF adsorption capacity for metals increased with increasing heavy metal concentration. In the system containing MBF, metals (Fe^3+ and Pb^2+), and CO2, the concentrated metals adsorbed onto the MBF combined with the dissolved CO2, resulting in oversaturation of metal carbonate minerals to form iron carbonate and lead carbonates. These results may be used in designing a method in which microbes can be utilized to combine CO2 with wastewater heavy metals to form carbonates, with the aim of mitigating environmental problems.展开更多

Th...Combined flocculants with low ecological risk are urgently required in water supply and wastewater treatment in China. A novel flocculant was thus developed under the condition of low ecological risk(noted as CAS). The experiments to examine wastewater treatment performance of the new product showed that there was favourable performance in the flocculation process in contrast to commercial flocculants in treating kaolin suspensions, municipal effluent and domestic wastewater. Flocculation performance included the turbidity removal rate, sediment character and a decrease in COD(chemical oxygen demand). The sediment time of flocculation is short and the removal rate of turbidity treated by CAS is high compared with PAC(polyaluminum chloride), PAM(polyacrylamide) and the combined addition of PAC and PAM. The optimal concentration required to affect flocculation processes is dependent on kaolin concentration and the character of the wastewater within the range examined. It also showed that CAS is effective to treat wastewater with high turbidity.展开更多

A strain secreting a large amount of bioflocculant was isolated from wastewater samples collected from the Little Moon River in Beijing. Based on the morphological properties and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, the isolate (designated W31) was classified as Vagococcus sp. A bioflocculant (named MBFW31) produced by W31 was extracted from the culture broth by ethanol precipitation and purified by gel chroma-tography. MBFW31 was heat-stable and had strong flocculating activity in a wide range of pH with relatively low dosage re-quirement. MBFW31 was identified as a polysaccharide with molecular weight over 2×106. It contained neutral sugar and uronic acid as its major and minor components, respectively. Infrared spectra showed the presence of hydroxyl, carboxyl and methoxyl group in its molecules. The present results suggested that MBFW31 had potential application in wastewater treatment.展开更多

文摘A coagulation/flocculation process using the composite flocculant polyaluminum chloride-epichlorohydrin dimethylamine (PAC- EPI-DMA) was employed for the treatment of an anionic azo dye (Reactive Brilliant Red K-2BP dye). The composite flocculant with intermediate viscosity and organic content was effective for the treatment of reactive dyeing wastewater, which could achieve high reactive dye removal efficiency with low organic dosage.

文摘In order to improve the flocculation efficiency of polydiallyldimethylammonium chloride(PDADMAC), high molecular weight PDADMAC should be prepared from high purity diallyldimethylammonium chloride(DADMAC) monomers. Flocculant made from the synthesized high purity DADMAC monomers was proved more efficient in flocculation tests.

文摘A series of biodegradable amphoteric chitosan-based flocculants (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimethyl ammonium chloride (CTA) modified carboxymethyl chitosan, denoted as CMC-CTA) with different substitution degrees of CTA were prepared successfully. Furthermore, flocculation performance using raw water from Zhenjiang part of Yangtze River at the pilot scale showed the similar effects to those at the laboratory scale.
文摘Objective To study the characteristics of a bioflocculant named MBF7 produced by Penicillum strain HHE-P7 and the effects of cultivation conditions on bioflocculant production. Conclusion The bioflocculant MBF7 is a new macromolecule with high flocculating efficiency for Kaolin suspension, and could be produced under appropriate culture conditions.

文摘Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMCNa) is an anionic water soluble polyelectrolyte widely used in many industrial sectors including food, textiles, papers, adhesives, paints, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and mineral processing. A comparison study between the flocculation performance of a commercial anionic flocculant (A100PWG: polyacrylamide) and that of the prepared CMCNa showed that the performance of the waste-based flocculant with a DS of 1.17 and a DP of 480 was 10% better than that achieved by the commercial one.

文摘In this study,a high-efficiency cationic flocculant,P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM),was successfully prepared using UV-induced polymerization technology. The monomer Acrylamide(AM):Acryloxyethyl Trimethyl ammonium chloride(DAC):methacrylamido propyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(MAPTAC)ratio, monomer concentration, photoinitiator concentration, urea content, and cationic monomer DAC:MAPTAC ratio, light time, and power of highpressure mercury lamp were studied. The characteristic groups, characteristic diffraction peaks, and characteristic proton peaks of P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)were confirmed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-Ray diffraction(XRD),1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer(1H NMR),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The effects of dosage,pH value, and velocity gradient(G)value on the removal efficiencies of turbidity,COD,ammonia nitrogen, and total phenol by poly aluminum ferric chloride(PAFC),P(DACMAPTAC-AM),and PAFC/P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)in the flocculation treatment of coal chemical wastewater were investigated. Results showed that the optimal conditions for the flocculation of coal chemical wastewater using P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)alone are as follows:dosage of 8-12 mg/L,G value of 100-250 s^-1,and pH value of 4-8.The optimal dosage of PAFC is 90-150 mg/L with a pH of 2-12.The optimal dosage for PAFC/P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)is as follows:PAFC dosage of 90-150 mg/L,P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)dosage of 8-12 mg/L,and pH range of 2-6.When P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)was used alone, the optimal removal efficiencies of turbidity,COD,ammonia nitrogen, and total phenol were 81.0%,35.0%,75.0%,and 80.3%,respectively.PAFC has good tolerance to wastewater pH and good pH buffering. Thus, the flocculation treatment of coal chemical wastewater using the PAFC/P(DAC-MAPTAC-AM)compound also exhibits excellent resistance and buffering capacity.

文摘Although microbial treatments of heavy metal ions in wastewater have been studied, the removal of these metals through incorporation into carbonate minerals has rarely been reported. These results may be used in designing a method in which microbes can be utilized to combine CO2 with wastewater heavy metals to form carbonates, with the aim of mitigating environmental problems.
文摘Combined flocculants with low ecological risk are urgently required in water supply and wastewater treatment in China. It also showed that CAS is effective to treat wastewater with high turbidity.

文摘Screening of microorganisms producing flocculating substances was carried out. The present results suggested that MBFW31 had potential application in wastewater treatment.

文摘Produced water from polymer flooding is difficult to treat due to its high polymer concentration, high viscosity, and emulsified characteristics. The dithiocarbamate flocculant,DTC(T403),was prepared by the amine-terminated polyoxypropane-effier compound known as Jeffamine-T403.The product was characterized by IR spectra and elemental analysis. The DTC agent chelating with Fe2+produced a network polymer matrix, which captured and removed oil droplets efficiently.Oil removal by the flocculent on simulated produced water with 0,200,500,900 mg/L of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide(HPAM)was investigated for aspects of effectiveness of DTC(T403)dosage and concentrations of HPAM and Fe2+ions in the wastewater. Results showed that HPAM had a negative influence on oil removal efficiency when DTC(T403)dosage was lower than 20 mg/L.However,residual oil concentrations in tested samples with different concentrations of HPAM all decreased below 10 mg/L when DTC(T403)dosage reached 30 mg/L.The concentration of Fe2+in the initial wastewater had a slight effect on oil removal at the range of 2-12 mg/L.Results showed that Fe3+could not be used in place of Fe2+as Fe3+could not react with DTC under flocculated conditions. The effects of mineral salts ions were also investigated.
文摘A strain saccharomycete STSM-1 with high flocculanting activity was isolated from activated sludge with conventional methods. The high production rate and the low cost STSM-1 medium was obtained by selecting different kinds of media, carbon source, nitrogen source and inorganic salt ion. The best flocculant-producing conditions were found by changing medium initial pH, culture temperature and ventilation flow. The best flocculating effect was obtained by changing positive ion types, density and concentration of flocculant.

文摘This paper reports the systematic investigation on the flocculation, sedimentation and consolidation characteristics of kaolinite using guar gum as a green flocculant.In-situ flocculation behavior of kaolinite at various pH,guar gum dosages, and ionic strength were studied using a light scattering technique. The effect of these parameters on the settling rate, solid consolidation, and supernatant liquid clarity was recorded. The morphology of kaolinite and flocculated kaolinite aggregates were analyzed using FESEM.The morphology studies suggest that it is poorly crystalline with multiple steps on edge, broken edge;laminar with high aspect ratio and have rough basal surface. The complex irregularity on the basal surface and the presence of multiple steps in the edges, broken edges(hydroxyl groups)have facilitated the guar gum adsorption. The isoelectric point of kaolinite is pH 3.96.The pH,ionic strength and flocculant dosage have a significant effect on the kaolinite settling rate. The guar gum has exhibited excellent turbidity removal efficiency at pH 5.The turbidity removal is inefficient at pH 10.However,guar gum has shown high turbidity removal with 80%transmission at pH 10 in the presence of a KNO3 electrolyte.
