The rapid acceleration of global warming and intensifying human activities have exacerbated the fragility and climate sensitivity of ecosystems worldwide,particularly in arid regions.Vegetation,a key component of ecos...The rapid acceleration of global warming and intensifying human activities have exacerbated the fragility and climate sensitivity of ecosystems worldwide,particularly in arid regions.Vegetation,a key component of ecosystems,is critical in enhancing the ecological environment.The Ertix River Basin(ERB)is a transboundary watershed that spans multiple countries,mostly in arid regions.However,research on the fractional vegetation coverage(FVC)and its driving factors in the ERB remains limited.Investigating the spatiotemporal changes in the FVC and its relationship with various factors in the ERB can offer scientific support for optimizing regional vegetation restoration policies and promoting the coordinated development of human-environment interactions.The Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)MYD13Q1 V6 data were obtained via the Google Earth Engine platform,and methods including the pixel dichotomy method,Theil-Sen median trend analysis,and Mann‒Kendall test were employed to examine the spatiotemporal dynamics of the FVC in the ERB from 2003 to 2023,with future trend forecast using the Hurst index.The impacts of natural and socioeconomic factors on the FVC were evaluated through the partial least squares-structural equation model(PLS-SEM).The results indicated that the FVC in the ERB showed a slight degradation trend with an average annual decrease of 0.046%during 2003-2023,with significant changes occurring in 2004,2010,and 2019.Spatially,53.380%of the study area was degraded,and the change in the FVC increased gradually from southeast to northwest.The FVC in 63.000%of the study area was highly stable and displayed long-term persistence;and the direct impact of natural factors(path coefficient of 0.617)on the FVC was significantly higher than that of socioeconomic factors(0.167).Among the natural factors,precipitation(0.999)was the most significant.This study reveals the significant impacts of natural and socioeconomic factors on vegetation dynamics in arid regions,and provides a scientific basis for transnational ecological conservation.展开更多
Research on the sustainable livelihoods of rural households is of great significance to mitigating rural poverty and reasonable land expropriation policy helps to realize better livelihoods and sustainable development...Research on the sustainable livelihoods of rural households is of great significance to mitigating rural poverty and reasonable land expropriation policy helps to realize better livelihoods and sustainable development.Scholars have conducted considerable research on the relationships between land expropriation and farmers'livelihoods.However,few quantitative studies have used the characteristics of villages as control variables to systematically analyze the impact of land expropriation on farmers'livelihood capital and strategy in the mountainous and hilly regions of China.This study uses the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model(PLS-SEM)to systematically explain the impact of land expropriation on farmers'livelihoods in mountainous and hilly regions of Sichuan in 2013,with the characteristics of the village including income,accessibility and terrain as control variables.The analysis uses both representative sample data of 240 rural households and spatial data calculated using a 30 m Digital Elevation Model(DEM)by Geographic Information System(GIS).Results are as follows:(1)The land expropriation characteristicsare negatively affected by village accessibility.Villages with worse accessibility tend to have fewer land parcels and less land area expropriated.Additionally,land that is expropriated from inaccessible villages tends to receive less compensation.(2)Natural capital is negatively affected by number and area of land expropriation.Natural capital is not only directly affected by village accessibility,but also indirectly affected by village accessibility through the mediating effect of the number and area of land parcels expropriated.(3)Physical capital is positively affected by compensation for land expropriation,and negatively affected by village accessibility through compensation for land expropriation.The worse a village's accessibility/location is,the less compensation it will receive for land expropriation,resulting in lower physical capital.(4)Financial capital is negatively affected by village accessibility indirectly through compensation for land expropriation.The better the village'saccessibility is,the greateris its compensation for land expropriation and,hence,the greater is its financial capital.(5)Social capital is directly and negatively affected by the number and area of land parcels expropriated,and is indirectly and positively affected by village accessibility through the number and area of land parcels expropriated.This study enhances our understanding of the characteristics of land expropriation and rural households'livelihood as well as the impact of land expropriation on rural households'livelihood.These findings provide reference for the formulation of proper policies related to land expropriation and the improvement of rural households'livelihoods in the mountainous and hilly regions of China.展开更多
For many online businesses,online reviews are crucially important to managing reputation,word-of-mouth sales,and,ultimately,their survival.Hence,more and more on line business owners are posting public responses to bo...For many online businesses,online reviews are crucially important to managing reputation,word-of-mouth sales,and,ultimately,their survival.Hence,more and more on line business owners are posting public responses to both positive and negative reviews.But do these responses change anything?And,if so,which types of responses are the most effective for strengthening customer relationship and increasing the chances of repeat business?With two surveys and a series of partial least squares-structural equation modeling(PLS-SEM)analyses,we tested three releva nt hypotheses to an swer these questions.The results show that when busi ness replies to online reviews with promotional information,consumers perceive the seller to be self-interested,and both relati on ship quality and repurchase intenti on decrease.However,sincere responses that do not contain promotional information,such as gratitude and apology,are highly correlated to positive relationship quality and the likelihood of future repeat business.These findings enrich the academic literature on on line reviews,and the recommendations stemming from our results should be of interest to any business that relies on their online reputation for survival.展开更多
