Introduction of new products/ services, version management of existing products/ services, management of customer/partner connections, management of multi-channel service delivery (web, social media, web etc.), merger/acquisitions of new businesses and adoption of new innovations/technologies will drive data growth in business applications. These datasets exist in different sharing nothing business applications at different locations and in various forms. So, to make sense of this information and derive insight, it is essential to break the data silos, streamline data retrieval and simplify information access across the entire organization. The information access framework must support just-in-time processing capabilities to bring data from multiple sources, be fast and powerful enough to transform and process huge amounts of data quickly, and be agile enough to accommodate new data sources per user needs. This paper discusses the SAP HANA Smart Data Access data-virtualization technology to enable unified access to heterogenous data across the organization and analysis of huge volume of data in real-time using SAP HANA in-memory platform.展开更多

In the smart city, smart accessible infrastructure creates an inclusive environment for people with disabilities, in which they can integrate into the community and enjoy their civil, cultural, political, social and economic rights and entitlements. The aim of this study is to integrate disabled people into society so that they can actively participate in society and lead to a normal life. An integrated approach is needed to ensure that people with disabilities are not left alone. A combination of mainstreaming and targeted action is required for all interventions. People with disabilities have the same basic needs as everyone else: health protection and treatment, basic services, housing and income. Targeted intervention measures need to complement disability mainstreaming by addressing specific needs identified by general responses, including such interventions need not add materially to the overall cost, especially if the requirements of the maximum number of users are considered in the initial planning. This paper recommends how we can use an appropriate design checklist as a guide for our initial architectural concept and smart city planning to facilities reasonably accessible for people with disabilities in private and public buildings, making our cities smarter and more inclusive and helping to improve the quality of life for all people, especially people with disabilities.展开更多

The current electric grid was established before the 1960’s. It is believed that the electric grid is the most complex and gigantic machine ever made in human history;it consists of wires, cables, towers, transformers and circuit breakers installed together in outdated manner. During the 60’s, computers and sensors were used to monitor and slightly control the grid;however, fifty years later these sensors are considered less than ideal. Presented here is a review of the smart grid communication network in terms of configuration, bandwidth and latency requirements as well as the technology used. We simulate the access layer of the smart grid net-work and show that no single available communication technology can be used for all layers of the smart grid;thus, different technologies for different layers are needed. A new protocol for optimizing the smart grid is recommended.展开更多

This paper deals with data transmission in SM systems, focusing on how the existing cellular networks infrastructure is employed to implement SM access communication networks. The analysis aims at analyzing the role of the cellular communications infrastructure taking into account the spatial distribution and installation points of the smart meters, the urban and topological characteristics of the SM deployment areas and the common practice so far followed by the utilities. It is demonstrated that cellular communications, either exclusively or combined with power line communications, enable immediate and scalable deployment of SM access communication networks at low installation cost, thus constituting the basic option for the implementation of smart metering.展开更多

For the effective design of the communications network, the user and traffic profiles, such as known-user vs. unknown-user populations and bursty vs. non-bursty data traffics, must be carefully considered and subsequently modeled. This paper relates user and traffic models to the deployment of effective multiple access transmission algorithms in the communications network of the SG.展开更多
