Environmental friendly recycling process for Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet sludges generated in the manufacturing process, which contain large amount of rare earth, including Nd, Pr and Dy, is badly needed so far. In present study, we have developed an effective route to obtain recycled sintered magnets from Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet sludges by calcium reduction-diffusion(RD) process. Compared to conventional recycling process, our research is focused on recovering most of the useful elements, including Nd, Pr, Dy, Co, and Fe together instead of just rare earth elements. To improve the recycling efficiency and reduce pollution, the co-precipitating parameters were simulated and calculated using MATLAB software. Most of useful elements were recovered by a co-precipitation method, and the obtained composite powders were then directly fabricated as recycled Nd-Fe-B powders by a calcium reduction-diffusion(RD) method. The recovery rates are 98%, 99%, 99%, 93%, and 99%, for Nd, Pr, Dy, Co, and Fe, respectively. The amount of useful elements contained in the recovered composite powders is greater than99.71 wt%. The process of RD for synthesizing NdFeB and subsequently removing CaO was thoroughly investigated. Furthermore, the recycled Nd-Fe-B magnet exhibits a remanence of 1.1 T, a coercivity of1053 kA/m, and an energy product of 235.6 kJ/m~3, respectively, indicating that recycled Nd-Fe-B sintered magnet was successfully recovered from the severely contaminated sludges via an effective recycling route. 展开更多

Moisture distributions in municipal sewage sludge, printing and dyeing sludge and paper mill sludge were experimentally studied based on four different methods, i.e., drying test, thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA) test, thermogravimetric- differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) test and water activity test. The results indicated that the moistures in the mechanically dewatered sludges were interstitial water, surface water and bound water. The interstitial water accounted for more than 50% wet basis (wb) of the total moisture content. The bond strength of sludge moisture increased with decreasing moisture content, especially when the moisture content was lower than 50% wb. Furthermore, the comparison among the four different testing methods was presented. The drying test was advantaged by its ability to quantify free water, interstitial water, surface water and bound water; while TG-DSC test, TG-DTA test and water activity test were capable of determining the bond strength of moisture in sludge. It was found that the results from TG-DSC and TG-DTA test are more persuasive than water activity test. 展开更多

Metal content and bioavailability are often the limiting factors for application of sewage sludge in agricultural fields. Sewage sludge samples were collected from five typical urban wastewater treatment plants in China to investigate their contents and distribution of various chemical fractions of Cu, Zn, Ni, Cr, Pb and Mo by using the BCR (Community Bureau of Reference) sequential extraction procedure. The sludges contained considerable amounts of organic matter (31.8%- 48.0%), total N (16.3-26.4 g kg^-1) and total P (15.1-23.9 g kg^-1), indicating high potential agricultural benefits of their practical applications. However, total Zn and Ni contents in the sludge exceeded the values permitted in China's control standards for pollutants in sludges from agricultural use (GB 4284-1984). The residual fraction was the predominant fraction for Mo, Ni and Cr, the oxidizable fraction was the primary fraction for Cu and Pb, and the exchangeable and reducible fractions were principal for Zn. The distribution of different chemical fractions among the sludge samples refiected differences in their physicochemical properties, especially pH. The sludge pH was negatively correlated with the percentages of reducible fraction of Cu and exchangeable fraction of Zn. The sludges from these plants might not be suitable for agricultural applications due to their high contents of Zn, Ni and Cr, as well as high potential of mobility and bioavailability of Zn. 展开更多

Candidatus Accumulibacter has been identified as dominant polyphosphate-accumulating organisms(PAOs) in enhanced biological phosphorus(P) removal(EBPR) from wastewater. This study revealed the relevance of community structure, abundance and seasonal population dynamics of Candidatus Accumulibacter to process operation of wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs) in China using ppk1 gene as phylogenetic marker. All sludge samples had properties of denitrifying P removal using nitrate as an electron acceptor.Accumulibacter abundance in the anaerobic-anoxic-oxic(A^2O) process was the highest(26%of total bacteria), and higher in winter than in summer with a better EBPR performance.Type-II was the dominant Accumulibacter in all processes, and type-I accounted for a small proportion of total Accumulibacter. The abundance of Clade-IIC as the most dominant clade reached 2.59 × 10~9 cells/g MLSS and accounted for 87.3% of total Accumulibacter. Clade IIC mainly contributed to denitrifying P removal. Clades IIA, IIC and IID were found in all processes, while clade-IIF was only found in oxidation ditch process through phylogenetic analysis. High proportion of clade IID to total Accumulibacter led to poor performance of aerobic P-uptake in inverted A^2O process. Therefore, Accumulibacter clades in WWTPs were diverse, and EBPR performance was closely related to the clade-level community structures and abundances of Accumulibacter. 展开更多

The reduction of helminth eggs, fecal coliforms and somatic coliphages present in sewage sludge after treatments and abatement by application to soil was determined. Traditional stabilization processes produced small changes in the concentrations of the parameters studied. In contrast, thermal treatments and liming produced dramatic reductions. Fecal coliforms were the most affected by both types of treatments;somatic coliphages showed some persistence after 30 minutes at 60°C;and both somatic coliphages and helminth eggs showed some persistence to storage in quick lime. However, both treatments supplied biosolid suitable for unrestricted application in agriculture. Abatement in soils in the climatic conditions tested (mild to cold temperatures and high relative humidity) was slow and took several months to reach the background levels. These results suggest that environmental conditions (temperature and humidity) play the main role in inactivating the microorganisms, since abatement was similar in different soil types. The extended permanence of pathogens and microbial indicators in soil after the application of treated sludges indicates that, in the normal weather conditions of the areas where the study was performed and the amounts of sludges applied, contaminant microbes are not easily mobilized from the complex matrixes that constitute the treated sludges and that consequently in normal conditions their release as diffuse pollution is of lesser importance. 展开更多

Intermetallic formation in sludge during magnesium(Mg)melting, holding and high pressure die casting practices is a very important issue. But,very often it is overlooked by academia, original equipment manufacturers(OEM),metal ingot producers and even die casters. The aim of this study was to minimize the intermetallic formation in Mg sludge via the optimization of the chemistry and process parameters. The Al8Mn5 intermetallic particles were identified by the microstructure analysis based on the Al and Mn ratio. The design of experiment(DOE)technique,Taguchi method, was employed to minimize the intermetallic formation in the sludge of Mg alloys with various chemical compositions of Al,Mn,Fe,and different process parameters, holding temperature and holding time. The sludge yield(SY)and intermetallic size(IS)was selected as two responses. The optimum combination of the levels in terms of minimizing the intermetallic formation were 9 wt.%Al,0.15 wt.%Mn,0.001 wt.%(10 ppm)Fe,690℃ for the holding temperature and holding at 30 mins for the holding time, respectively. The best combination for smallest intermetallic size were 9 wt.%Al,0.15 wt.%Mn,0.001 wt.%(10 ppm)Fe,630℃ for the holding temperature and holding at 60 mins for the holding time, respectively.Three groups of sludge factors,Chemical Sludge(CSF),Physical Sludge(PSF)and Comprehensive Sludge Factors(and CPSF)were established for prediction of sludge yields and intermetallic sizes in Al-containing Mg alloys. The CPSF with five independent variables including both chemical elements and process parameters gave high accuracy in prediction,as the prediction of the PSF with only the two processing parameters of the melt holding temperature and time showed a relatively large deviation from the experimental data. The Chemical Sludge Factor was primarily designed for small ingot producers and die casters with a limited melting and holding capacity,of which process parameters could be fixed easily. The Physical Sludge Factor could be used for mass production with a single type of Mg alloy,in which the chemistry fluctuation might be negligible. In large Mg casting suppliers with multiple melting and holding furnaces and a number of Mg alloys in production, the Comprehensive Sludge Factor should be implemented to diminish the sludge formation. 展开更多

In order to explore the effects of CaO,lignite dust and sawdust on the drying characteristics ofmunicipal sludge at different concentrations,a three-factor three-level regression experiment was carried out based on the results of thermogravimetric experiment and single factor experiment.By fitting three common mathematical models, the Page model with the highest fitting degree was selected to determine the most suitable mathematical model to describe the municipal sludge drying process. In addition, the Box-Behnken design principle in the response surface method was used to analyze the interaction of three factors on the drying characteristics of municipal sludge. The results of the study show that below 100℃is the optimal drying temperature range for municipal sludge. The results of single factor experiments showed that the order of influence of the three factors on sludge drying time was CaO concentration>sawdust concentration>lignite dust concentration. In the single factor experiment, the optimal process parameterswere CaOconcentration 3%,lignite powder concentration 7%,and sawdust concentration 7%.In themulti-factor interaction analysis, the interaction between CaO and sawdust had the most significant effect on the reduction of drying time, and the order of influence was as follows:CaO interaction with sawdust>lignite dust interaction with sawdust>CaO interaction with lignite powder.Further analysis showed that the optimal process ratio was 3%CaO concentration and 3%sawdust concentration. 展开更多

The pyrolysis properties of five different pyrolysis tars, which the tars from 1# to 5# are obtained by pyrolyzing the sewage sludges of anaerobic digestion and indigestion from the A2/O wastewater treatment process, those from the activated sludge process and the indigested sludge from the continuous SBR process respectively, were studied by thermal gravimetric analysis at a heating rate of 10 ℃/min in the nitrogen atmosphere. The results show that the pyrolysis processes of the pyrolysis tars of 1#, 2#, 3# and 5# all can be divided into four stages: the stages of light organic compounds releasing, heavy polar organic compounds decomposition, heavy organic compounds decomposition and the residual organic compounds decomposition. However, the process of 4# pyrolysis tar is only divided into three stages: the stages of light organic compounds releasing, decomposition of heavy polar organic compounds and the residual heavy organic compounds respectively. Both the sludge anaerobic digestion and the "anaerobic" process in wastewater treatment processes make the content of light organic compounds in tars decrease, but make that of heavy organic compounds with complex structure increase. Besides, both make the pyrolysis properties of the tars become worse. The pyrolysis reaction mechanisms of the five pyrolysis tars have been studied with Coats-Redfern equation. It shows that there are the same mechanism functions in the first stage for the five tars and in the second and third stage for the tars of 1#, 2#, 3# and 5#, which is different with the function in the second stage for 4# tar. The five tars are easy to volatile. 展开更多

It is essential to determine the heavy metal concentrations in sewage sludge to select appropriate disposal methods. We conducted a national survey of heavy metal concentrations of sewage sludge samples from 107 municipal sewage treatment plants located in 48 cities covering the 31 provinces and autonomous regions, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in 2006, and identified the temporal trends of heavy metal contents in sewage sludge by comparison with surveys conducted in 1994-2001. In 2006, the average concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn in sewage sludge were 20.2, 1.97, 93.1, 218.8, 2.13, 48.7, 72.3, and 1058mg.kg-1, respectively. Because of the decreased discharge of heavy metals into industrial wastewater in China and the increasingly stringent regulations governing the content of industrial wastes entering sewers, the average concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn have decreased by 32.3%, 49.7%, 54.9%, 25.0%, 37.2%, 44.8%, and 27.0%, respectively, during the past 12 years. The concentrations of Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Zn in the samples exceeded the heavy metal limits of the Discharge Standard of Pollutants for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant in China (GB 18918-2002) by 6.5%, 3.7%, 6.5%, 6.5%, and 11.2%, respectively. From these results, 85 of the 107 municipal sludges analyzed would be considered suitable for land application. 展开更多

Anaerobic ammonia oxidation(Anammox)is an economical and sustainablewastewater nitrogen removal technology, and its application in the mainstream process is the inevitable trend of the development of Anammox. However, how to effectively enriching Anammox bacteria from the activated sludge remains challenging and restricts its extensive applications. In this study, the rapid and efficient enrichment of Anammox bacteriawas achieved by raising the reflux ratio and nitrogen loading rate(NLR)using conventional activated sludge as the inoculant. In the screening phase(days 1–90),the reflux ratio was increased to discharge partial floc sludge, resulting in the relative abundance of Candidatus Brocadiaceae increased from0.04%to 22.54%,which effectively reduced thematrix and spatial competition between other microorganisms and Anammox bacteria. On day 90,the stoichiometric ratio of the Anammox process closely approached the theoretical value of 1:1.32:0.26,indicating that the Anammox reaction was the primary nitrogen removal process in the system. In the enrichment phase(days 91–238),the NLR increased from 0.43 to 1.20 kgN/(m^(3)·d)and removal efficiency was 71.89%,resulting in the relative abundance of Candidatus Brocadiaceae increased to 61.27%on day 180.The reactor operated steadily from days 444 to 498,maintaining the nitrogen removal rate(NRR)of 3.00 kgN/(m^(3)·d)and achieving successful sludge granulation with the particle size of 392.4μm.In short, this study provided a simple and efficient approach for enriching Anammox bacteria from the activated sludge, supporting to start an Anammox process efficiently. 展开更多

The organic compound composition ofwastewater, serves as a crucial indicator for the operational performance of activated sludge processes and has a major influence on the development of filamentous bulking in activated sludge. This study focused on the impact of typical soluble and slowly-biodegradable organic compounds, investigating the pathways through which these substrates affect the occurrence of filamentous bulking in systems operated under both high-and low-oxygen conditions. Results showed that slowly-biodegradable organic compounds lead to a concentrated distribution of microorganisms within flocs, with inward growth of filamentous bacteria. Both Tween-80 and granular starch treated systems exhibited a significant increase in protein content. The glucose system, utilizing soluble substrates, exhibited a markedly higher total polysaccharide content.Microbial communities in the Tween-80 and granular starch treated systems were characterized by a higher abundance of bacteria known to enhance sludge flocculation and settling, such as Competibacter,Xanthomonadaceae and Zoogloea. These findings are of high significance for controlling the operational performance and stability of activated sludge systems, deepening our understanding and providing a novel perspective for the improvement of wastewater treatment processes. 展开更多

We examined the enhancing effects of different dosages of product of Centrifugation of Bacterial Liquid(product of CBL)on the performance of slag-fGD gypsum-cement-bentonite-sludge system using MICP technology. We analyzed the multifaceted performance of the solidified sludge from macroscopic and microscopic perspectives. The experimental results reveal that the increase in product of CBL dosage results in positive impacts on the solidified sludge, including higher side compressive strength, lower leachate heavy metal concentration, and improved crack repair rates. At a 0.4%product of CBL doping concentration, the strength of the solidified sludge is enhanced by 26.6%at 3 d,61.2%at 7 d,and 13.9%at 28 d when compared to the unmodified solidified sludge. After 28 days, the concentrations of Zn and Cu ions reduce by 58%and 18%,respectively,and the crack repair rate is 58.4%.These results demonstrate that the increase in heavy metal concentration in the leachate leads to an increase in the strength of the solidified sludge. The strengthening procedure heavily relies on the mineralisation reaction of Bacillus pasteurii, which produces a substantial amount of CaCO_(3)to cement the particles and fill the pores initially. The modified solidifying sludge exhibits a self-repairing effect and an enhanced multifaceted performance as a result of oxygen being restored after crack formation and reactivation of Bacillus pasteurii.Such conditions facilitate the body's recovery. 展开更多

Anaerobic digestion(AD)is widely employed for sludge stabilization and waste reduction. However, the slow hydrolysis process hinders methane production and leads to prolonged sludge issues. In this study,an efficient and eco-friendly lysozyme pre-treatment method was utilized to address these challenges.By optimizing lysozyme dosage, hydrolysis and cell lysis were maximized.Furthermore, lysozyme combined with hydrothermal pretreatment enhanced overall efficiency. Results indicate that:(1)When lysozyme dosage reached 90 mg/g TS after 240 min of pretreatment,SCOD,soluble polysaccharides, and protein content reached their maxima at 855.00,44.09,and 204.86 mg/L,respectively.This represented an increase of 85.87%,365.58%,and 259.21%compared to the untreated sludge.Threedimensional fluorescence spectroscopy revealed the highest fluorescence intensity in the IV region(soluble microbial product),promoting microbial metabolic activity.(2)Lysozyme combined with hydrothermal pretreatment significantly increased SCOD,soluble proteins, and polysaccharide release from sludge, reducing SCOD release time.Orthogonal experiments identified Group 3 as the most effective for SCOD and soluble polysaccharide release, while Group 9 released the most soluble proteins. The significance order of factors influencing SCOD,soluble proteins, and polysaccharide release is hydrothermal temperature>hydrothermal time>enzymatic digestion time.(3)The lysozyme-assisted hydrothermal pretreatment group exhibited the fastest release and the highest SCOD concentration of 8,135.00 mg/L during anaerobic digestion.Maximum SCOD consumption and cumulative gas production increased by 95.89%and 130.58%,respectively,compared to the control group, allowing gas production to conclude 3 days earlier. 展开更多

This paper investigated the use of magnesium phosphate cement (MPC) for solidifying sludge with different humic acid (HA) content (ranging from 0 to 4.5%) and explored the solidification mechanism. Fluidity, setting time, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), the strength formation mechanism, and the spontaneous imbibition process of solidified sludge (SS) were studied. The results indicate that MPC can be used as a low-alkalinity curing agent. As the HA content increases, fluidity and setting time also increase, while hydration temperature and strength decrease. Additionally, the failure mode of SS transitions from brittleness to ductility. The strength of SS is composed of the cementation strength provided by MPC hydration products, matric suction, osmotic suction, and the structural strength of the sludge. MPC reduces the structural strength caused by the shrinkage of pure sludge under the action of matric suction, but the incorporation of MPC significantly improved the strength when the sludge is eroded by water. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) show that the sludge and MPC can form a dense solid body, forming various hydration products, and synergistically improve the mechanical properties of the sludge. 展开更多

This study investigates the innovative reuse of sewage sludge with eco-friendly alkaline solutes to improve clayey soil without conventional cementitious binders. The unconfined compressive strength(UCS)was the main criterion to assess the quality and effectiveness of the proposed solutions,as this test was performed to measure the strength of the stabilized clay by varying binders’dosages and curing times. Moreover, the direct shear test(DST)was used to investigate the Mohr-Coulomb parameters of the treated soil.Microstructure observations of the natural and treated soil were conducted using scanning electron microscope(SEM),energy-dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and FTIR.Furthermore, toxicity characteristic leaching procedure(TCLP)tests were performed on the treated soil to investigate the leachability of metals.According to the results, using 2.5%of sewage sludge activated by NaOH and Na_(2)SiO_(3)increases the UCS values from 176 kPa to 1.46 MPa after 7 d and 56 d of curing, respectively. The results of the DST indicate that sewage sludge as a precursor increases cohesion and enhances frictional resistance, thereby improving the Mohr-Coulomb parameters of the stabilized soil. The SEM micrographs show that alkali-activated sewage sludge increases the integrity and reduces the cavity volumes in the stabilized soil. Moreover,TCLP tests revealed that the solubility of metals in the treated soil alkaliactivated by sewage sludge significantly decreased. This study suggests that using sewage sludge can replace cement and lime in ground improvement, improve the circular economy, and reduce the carbon footprint of construction projects. 展开更多

Leachate sludge,a byproduct of municipal solid waste leachate treated through biochemical processes,is characterized by high water content(761.1%)and significant organic matter content(71.2%).Cement that is commonly used for solidifying leachate sludge has shown limited effectiveness. To address this issue,an alkali-activated ground-granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBS)geopolymer blended with polypropylene fibers was developed to solidify leachate sludge. Moreover, unconfined compressive strength(UCS),immersion,as well as X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and scanning electron microscope(SEM)tests were conducted to investigate the solidification effect and mechanism of the GGBS-based geopolymer and fibers on leachate sludge. The results showed that:the 28-d UCS of the solidified sludge with 20%and 30%GGBS is 0.35 MPa and 1.85 MPa,and decreases to 0.18 MPa and 1.13 MPa,respectively, after soaked in water for 28 d.Notably, the UCS of the solidified sludge with 30%GGBS satisfied the strength requirement of roadbed materials.Polypropylene fibers significantly enhanced the strength, ductility and water stability of the solidified sludge, with an optimal fiber content of 0.3%.Alkali-activated GGBS geopolymer generated three-dimensional,cross-linked geopolymeric gels within the solidified sludge, cementing sludge particles and filling intergranular pores to form a stable cementitious structure, thereby achieving effective solidification.Furthermore, incorporating polypropylene fibers improved the bonding and anchoring effect between fiber and solidified sludge, constrained lateral deformation of the solidified sludge, restricted crack propagation, and enhanced engineering performance of the solidified leachate sludge. 展开更多

In this study, the effects of different salinity gradients and addition of compatible solutes on anaerobic treated effluent water qualities, sludge characteristics and microbial communities were investigated. The increase in salinity resulted in a decrease in particle size of the granular sludge, which was concentrated in the range of 0.5-1.0 mm.The content of EPS(extracellular polymeric substances)in the granular sludge gradually increased with increasing salinity and the addition of betaine(a typical compatible solute).Meanwhile, the microbial community structure was significantly affected by salinity, with high salinity reducing the diversity of bacteria. At higher salinity,Patescibacteria and Proteobacteria gradually became the dominant phylum, with relative abundance increasing to 13.53%and 12.16%at 20 g/L salinity.Desulfobacterota and its subordinate Desulfovibrio, which secrete EPS in large quantities, dominated significantly after betaine addition.Their relative abundance reached 13.65%and 7.86%at phylum level and genus level. The effect of these changes on the treated effluent was shown as the average chemical oxygen demand(COD)removal rate decreased from 82.10%to 79.71%,78.01%,68.51%and 64.55%when the salinity gradually increased from 2 g/L to 6,10,16 and 20 g/L.At the salinity of 20 g/L,average COD removal increased to 71.65%by the addition of 2 mmol/L betaine. The gradient elevated salinity and the exogenous addition of betaine played an important role in achieving stability of the anaerobic system in a highly saline environment, which provided a feasible strategy for anaerobic treatment of organic saline wastewater. 展开更多

The rapidly growing demand for lithium iron phosphate(LiFePO_(4))as the cathode material of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)has aggravated the scarcity of phosphorus(P)reserves on Earth. This study introduces an environmentally friendly and economical method of P recovery from municipal wastewater, providing the P source for LiFePO_(4) cathodes. The novel approach utilizes the sludge of Fe-coagulant-based chemical P removal(CPR)in wastewater treatment. After a sintering treatment with acid washing, the CPR sludge, enriched with P and Fe,transforms into purified P-Fe oxides(Fe2.1P1.0O5.6).These oxides can substitute up to 35%of the FePO_(4) reagent as precursor, producing a carbon-coated LiFePO_(4)(LiFePO_(4)/C)cathode with a specific discharge capacity of 114.9 mA·h·g^(-1)at current density of 17 mA·g^(-1)),and cycle stability of 99.2%after 100 cycles. The enhanced cycle performance of the as-prepared LiFePO_(4)/C cathode may be attributed to the incorporations of impurities(such as Ca^(2+)and Na^(+))from sludge, with improved stability of crystal structure.Unlike conventional P-fertilizers,this P recovery technology converts 100%of P in CPR sludge into the production of value-added LiFePO_(4)/C cathodes. The recovered P from municipal wastewater can meet up to 35%of the P demand in the Chinese LIBs industry, offering a cost-effective solution for addressing the pressing challenges of P scarcity. 展开更多

The removal of harmful cyanobacterial blooms(HCBs)and reuse of the resulting algal sludge are pressing issues in current environmental governance and ecological conservation.Aiming at tackling the abovementioned challenges,titanium(Ti)-based coagulants are promising candidates. However, most of them suffer from poor stability and weak actual algal removal ability, and recycling of the algal sludge usually produces titanium dioxide(TiO_(2))with low photocatalytic ability. In this work,a lanthanum(La)-modified polytitanium chloride(La-PTC)coagulant is reported.La in the La-PTC coagulant serves a"kill two birds with one stone"strategy in algae removal and algae sludge reuse.Owing to the introduction of La ions, the La-PTC coagulant exhibits ultra-high stability and excellent algae removal capability with an efficiency of 98.71%,which is 7.25%higher than that of PTC coagulant. Moreover, recycling algae sludge can prepare high catalytic(2.45 times the commercial P25 TiO_(2))La/C-TiO_(2),where the presence of La enhances its visible light response range and inhibits electron hole recombination. The strategy of this La modified coagulant can not only achieve efficient re moval of HCBs,but also transfo rm the recovered algal sludge into photocatalysts with higher catalytic capacity. 展开更多

The development of sustainable sludge management systems requires looking at them with a new vision in which the concepts of SD(Sustainable Development)must integrate those of CE(Circular Economy),both concepts subject to the principles of TD(Thermodynamics),thus allowing the adoption of actions that are all the more effective the more complete the evaluation of the social dimension has been. This involves a new“Way of thinking”which sees the sludge system as the“Locomotive”of the entire wastewater/sludge treatment train and is developed through“Ways of acting”which includes both“Technical”actions to maximize recoveries of useful materials and/or or energy,and“Socio/Institutional”actions to overcome barriers linked to local cultures and traditions, also considering that the specific local context heavily influences the choices capable of satisfying the concepts of CE.It follows the need of issuing realistic and applicable regulations and overcoming social barriers, such as lack of infrastructure and/or qualified personnel,to achieve an effective integration of the concepts of CE with the more general ones of sustainability. 展开更多
