From the analysis of bridge construction, due to the steep terrain and large height difference in the mountainous area, bridges begin to develop in the direction of large span and high piers, and high piers of more than 100 meters begin to appear frequently. Based on the increase of pier height, in order to reduce the related consumables and costs, thin-walled hollow pier is gradually applied. This kind of bridge pier has small anti push stiffness along the bridge direction and can effectively bear the internal force of superstructure. According to the different vertical shapes of pier body, the commonly used thin-walled hollow piers can be divided into single pier, double pier, combined pier, continuous variable section, stepped variable section and segmented continuous variable section. According to the construction of thin-walled hollow pier bridges in China, they are mainly distributed in mountainous and hilly areas, mostly in continuous beam bridges, rigid frame bridges and cable-stayed bridges. Generally speaking, most thin-walled hollow piers have to be adopted because of the limitation of geographical environment.展开更多
