Structure damage identification and alarming of long-span bridge were conducted with three-dimensional dynamic displacement data collected by GPS subsystem of health monitoring system on Runyang Suspension Bridge.First,the effects of temperature on the main girder spatial position coordinates were analyzed from the transverse,longitudinal and vertical directions of bridge,and the correlation regression models were built between temperature and the position coordinates of main girder in the longitudinal and vertical directions;then the alarming indices of coordinate residuals were conducted,and the mean-value control chart was applied to making statistical pattern identification for abnormal changes of girder dynamic coordinates;and finally,the structural damage alarming method of main girder was established.Analysis results show that temperature has remarkable correlation with position coordinates in the longitudinal and vertical directions of bridge,and has weak correlation with the transverse coordinates.The 3%abnormal change of the longitudinal coordinates and 5%abnormal change of the vertical ones caused by structural damage are respectively identified by the mean-value control chart method based on GPS dynamic monitoring data and hence the structural abnormalities state identification and damage alarming for main girder of long-span suspension bridge can be realized in multiple directions. 展开更多

Geospatial objects detection within complex environment is a challenging problem in remote sensing area. In this paper, we derive an extension of the Relevance Vector Machine (RVM) technique to multiple kernel version. The proposed method learns an optimal kernel combination and the associated classifier simultaneously. Two feature types are extracted from images, forming basis kernels. Then these basis kernels are weighted combined and resulted the composite kernel exploits interesting points and appearance information of objects simultaneously. Weights and the detection model are finally learnt by a new algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed method improve detection accuracy to above 88%, yields good interpretation for the selected subset of features and appears sparser than traditional single-kernel RVMs. 展开更多

The behavior of the zeros in finite Taylor series approximations of the Riemann Xi function (to the zeta function), of modified Bessel functions and of the Gaussian (bell) function is investigated and illustrated in the complex domain by pictures. It can be seen how the zeros in finite approximations approach to the genuine zeros in the transition to higher-order approximation and in case of the Gaussian (bell) function that they go with great uniformity to infinity in the complex plane. A limiting transition from the modified Bessel functions to a Gaussian function is discussed and represented in pictures. In an Appendix a new building stone to a full proof of the Riemann hypothesis using the Second mean-value theorem is presented. 展开更多

Crack detection using integrated signals from dynamic responses of girder bridges

An innovative approach for the identification of cracks from the dynamic responses of girder bridges was proposed.One of the key steps of the approach was to transform the dynamical responses into the equivalent static quantities by integrating the excitation and response signals over time.A sliding-window least-squares curve fitting technique was then utilized to fit a cubic curve for a short segment of the girder.The moment coefficient of the cubic curve can be used to detect the locations of multiple cracks along a girder bridge.To validate the proposed method,prismatic girder bridges with multiple cracks of various depths were analyzed.Sensitivity analysis was conducted on various effects of crack depth,moving window width,noise level,bridge discretization,and load condition.Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed method can accurately detect cracks in a simply-supported or continuous girder bridges,the five-point equally weighted algorithm is recommended for practical applications,the spacing of two discernable cracks is equal to the window length,and the identified results are insensitive to noise due to integration of the initial data. 展开更多

Generalized Block Markov Superposition Transmission over Free-Space Optical Links

In free-space optical(FSO) communications, the performance of the communication systems is severely degraded by atmospheric turbulence. Channel coding and diversity techniques are commonly used to combat channel fading induced by atmospheric turbulence. In this paper, we present the generalized block Markov superposition transmission(GBMST) of repetition codes to improve time diversity. In the GBMST scheme, information sub-blocks are transmitted in the block Markov superposition manner, with possibly different transmission memories. Based on analyzing an equivalent system, a lower bound on the bit-error-rate(BER) of the proposed scheme is presented. Simulation results demonstrate that, under a wide range of turbulence conditions, the proposed scheme improves diversity gain with only a slight reduction of transmission rate. In particular, with encoding memory sequence(0, 0, 8) and transmission rate 1/3, a diversity order of eleven is achieved under moderate turbulence conditions. Numerical results also show that, the GBMST systems with appropriate settings can approach the derived lower bound, implying that full diversity is achievable. 展开更多

Approach to Riemann Hypothesis by Combined Commensurable Step Function Approximation with Bonnet Method

To the Riemann hypothesis, we investigate first the approximation by step-wise Omega functions Ω(u) with commensurable step lengths u0 concerning their zeros in corresponding Xi functions Ξ(z). They are periodically on the y-axis with period proportional to inverse step length u0. It is found that they possess additional zeros off the imaginary y-axis and additionally on this axis and vanish in the limiting case u0 → 0 in complex infinity. There remain then only the “genuine” zeros for Xi functions to continuous Omega functions which we call “analytic zeros” and which lie on the imaginary axis. After a short repetition of the Second mean-value (or Bonnet) approach to the problem and the derivation of operational identities for Trigonometric functions we give in Section 8 a proof for the position of these genuine “analytic” zeros on the imaginary axis by construction of a contradiction for the case off the imaginary axis. In Section 10, we show by a few examples that monotonically decreasing of the Omega functions is only a sufficient condition for the mentioned property of the positions of zeros on the imaginary axis but not a necessary one. 展开更多

Estimating the transmission fitness of SARS-CoV-2 variants and understanding their evolutionary fitness trends are important for epidemiological forecasting.Existing methods are often constrained by their parametric natures and do not satisfactorily align with the observations during COVID-19.Here,we introduce a sliding-window data-driven pairwise comparison method,the differential population growth rate(DPGR)that uses viral strains as internal controls to mitigate sampling biases.DPGR is applicable in time windows in which the logarithmic ratio of two variant subpopulations is approximately linear.We apply DPGR to genomic surveillance data and focus on variants of concern(VOCs)in multiple countries and regions.We found that the log-linear assumption of DPGR can be reliably found within appropriate time windows in many areas.We show that DPGR estimates of VOCs align well with regional empirical observations in different countries.We show that DPGR estimates agree with another method for estimating pathogenic transmission.Furthermore,DPGR allowed us to construct viral relative fitness landscapes that capture the shifting trends of SARS-CoV-2 evolution,reflecting the relative changes of transmission traits for key genotypic changes represented by major variants.The straightforward log-linear regression approach of DPGR may also facilitate its easy adoption.This study shows that DPGR is a promising new tool in our repertoire for addressing future pandemics. 展开更多

Background Brain tumor segmentation from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important step toward surgical planning,treatment planning,monitoring of therapy.However,manual tumor segmentation commonly used in clinic is time-consuming and challenging,and none of the existed automated methods are highly robust,reliable and efficient in clinic application.An accurate and automated tumor segmentation method has been developed for brain tumor segmentation that will provide reproducible and objective results close to manual segmentation results.Methods Based on the symmetry of human brain,we employed sliding-window technique and correlation coefficient to locate the tumor position.At first,the image to be segmented was normalized,rotated,denoised,and bisected.Subsequently,through vertical and horizontal sliding-windows technique in turn,that is,two windows in the left and the right part of brain image moving simultaneously pixel by pixel in two parts of brain image,along with calculating of correlation coefficient of two windows,two windows with minimal correlation coefficient were obtained,and the window with bigger average gray value is the location of tumor and the pixel with biggest gray value is the locating point of tumor.At last,the segmentation threshold was decided by the average gray value of the pixels in the square with center at the locating point and 10 pixels of side length,and threshold segmentation and morphological operations were used to acquire the final tumor region.Results The method was evaluated on 3D FSPGR brain MR images of 10 patients.As a result,the average ratio of correct location was 93.4% for 575 slices containing tumor,the average Dice similarity coefficient was 0.77 for one scan,and the average time spent on one scan was 40 seconds.Conclusions An fully automated,simple and efficient segmentation method for brain tumor is proposed and promising for future clinic use.Correlation coefficient is a new and effective feature for tumor location. 展开更多

In this paper, a combined method of unsupervised clustering and learning vector quantity (LVQ) is presented to forecast the occurrence of solar flare. Three magnetic parameters including the maximum horizontal gradient, the length of the neutral line, and the number of singular points are extracted from SOHO/MDI longitudinal magnetograms as measures. Based on these pa- rameters, the sliding-window method is used to form the sequential data by adding three days evolutionary information. Con- sidering the imbalanced problem in dataset, the K-means clustering, as an unsupervised clustering algorithm, is used to convert imbalanced data to balanced ones. Finally, the learning vector quantity is employed to predict the flares level within 48 hours. Experimental results indicate that the performance of the proposed flare forecasting model with sequential data is improved. 展开更多

Traditional gradient domain seamless image cloning is a time consuming task,requiring the solving of Poisson's equations whenever the shape or position of the cloned region changes.Recently,a more efficient alternative,the mean-value coordinates(MVCs) based approach,was proposed to interpolate interior pixels by a weighted combination of values along the boundary.However,this approach cannot faithfully preserve the gradient in the cloning region.In this paper,we introduce harmonic cloning,which uses harmonic coordinates(HCs) instead of MVCs in image cloning.Benefiting from the non-negativity and interior locality of HCs,our interpolation generates a more accurate harmonic field across the cloned region,to preserve the results with as high a quality as with Poisson cloning.Furthermore,with optimizations and implementation on a graphic processing unit(GPU),we demonstrate that,compared with the method using MVCs,our harmonic cloning gains better quality while retaining real-time performance. 展开更多
