The discussion is based on the minimal inter-slice action (MIA) hypothesis, which results in a new slice model without including artificially adjustable parameters. It has been realized that the new slice model predicts the minimum value of the safety factor, while all other slice models available always overestimate the value of the safety factor. Moreover, the gravity moment of each slice is found to be opposite to the overturning moment, which is different from the existing knowledge. In particular, the new slice model overcomes the situation where different assumptions of the inter-slice force function will give different safety factors to the same slope. The related numerical examples indicate that the new slice model can serve as a reliable tool for investigating geotechnical slope stability.展开更多

The physical model of damping valve with the circle throttle slice is established. The time for the throttle slice deformation is studied by using the finite software, and the laws that how the structure parameters affect the deformation time are obtained. Combining the theory of water hammer, the water hammer initial and boundary condition of the damping valve is deduced, and the water hammer model of throttle slice is established. The analysis of simulation results indicates that the water hammer pressure amplitude and the amount of water hammer oscillation period can be reduced and the dependability of the valve can be enhanced by modifying the structure parameters and aperture width between slice and valve body.展开更多

This diffusion-inactivation model was used to estimate the kinetics of NO consumption by the rat cerebellar slices. He’s Homotopy perturbation method is used to solve the first order nonlinear differential equations which describe the concentrations given by net of diffusion and inactivation by the slices. Analytical expressions for the concentration of nitric oxide have been derived for all values of parameters. The obtained analytical results are compared with the simulation results (Matlab/Scilab program) and are found to be in good agreement.展开更多

The simulation is using this model to accurately estimate the natural frequency of these slender structures, as a function of the interaction of the foundations with the subsoil. After a brief introduction to the wind power energy as a reliable alternative in comparison to fossil fuel, the paper focuses on concept of natural frequency as a primary indicator in designing the foundations of OWTs. Then the range of natural frequencies is provided for a safe design purpose. Next, an analytical expression of an OWT natural frequency is presented as a function of soil-monopile interaction through monopile head springs characterized by lateral stiffness KL, rotational stiffness KRand cross-coupling stiffness KLRof which the differences are discussed. The nonlinear pseudo three-dimensional finite element vertical slices model has been used to analyze the lateral behaviors of monopiles supporting the OWTs of different wind farm sites considered. Through the monopiles head movements(displacements and rotations), the values of KL, KRand KLRwere obtained and substituted in the analytical expression of natural frequency for comparison. The comparison results between computed and measured natural frequencies showed an excellent agreement for most cases. This confirms the convenience of the finite element model used for the accurate estimation of the monopile head stiffness.展开更多

A five-strain cocktail of Salmonella spp. was inoculated directly onto the rim of a round slicer blade at an initial level of ca. 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 log CFU/blade (ca. 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 log CFU/cm2 of the blade edge area). Thereafter, a RTE deli meat (ham) was sliced to a thickness of 1.5 - 2.0 mm. In another cross-contamination scenario, a clean blade was initially used to slice ham, which was pre-surface-inoculated with the Salmonella cocktail (ca. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 log CFU/cm2 with a total area of 100 cm2), followed by slicing of an un-inoculated ham. The log CFU of Salmonella per ham slice was determined and empirical models were developed. The models, follow the decreasing Power law, predict the surface cross-contamination of Salmonella spp. (at any initial level) for sliced deli meat (ham) and will provide a useful tool in developing RTE meat risk assessments. Surface transfer patterns of three foodborne pathogens, i.e. Listeria monocytogenes, E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella predicted by models are also presented.展开更多

More precision landslide surface deformation data extracted from InSAR image need take suitable SAR interferometric data selecting, path tracking, phase unwrapping processes. Then, the DEM model of scope and surface shape of the landslide was built. Combining with geological property of landslide and sliding displacements obtained from InSAR/D-InSAR images, a new landslide forecasting model called equal central angle slice method for those not obviously deformed landslides was put forward. This model breaks the limits of traditional research methods of geology. In this model, the landslide safety factor was calculated by equal central angle slice method, then considering the persistence ratio of the sliding surface based on plastic theory, the minimum safety factor was the phase when plastic area were complete persistence. This new model makes the application of InSAR/D-InSAR technology become more practical in geology hazard research.展开更多
