Recovery of Lead-Zinc Slags to Methyl-Ammonium Lead Tri-Iodide With Single-Atom Fe-N_(4)Sites for Piezocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Lead(Pb)-zinc(Zn)slags contain large amounts of Pb,causing irreversible damage to the environment.Therefore,developing an effective strategy to extract Pb from Pb-Zn slags and convert them into a renewable high-value catalyst not only solves the energy crisis but also reduces environmental pollution.Herein,we present a viable strategy to recycle Pb and iron(Fe)from Pb-Zn slags for the fabrication of efficient methylammonium lead tri-iodide(r-MAPbI_(3))piezocatalysts with single-atom Fe-N_(4) sites.Intriguingly,atomically dispersed Fe sites from Pb-Zn slags,which coordinated with N in the neighboring four CH3NH3 to form the FeN_(4) configuration,were detected in the as-obtained r-MAPbI_(3) by synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy.The introduction of Fe single atoms amplified the polarization of MAPbI_(3) and upshifted the d-band center of MAPbI_(3).This not only enhanced the piezoelectric response of MAPbI_(3) but also promoted the proton transfer during the hydrogen evolution process.Due to the decoration of Fe single atoms,r-MAPbI_(3) showed a pronounced H2 yield of 322.4μmol g^(−1) h^(−1),which was 2.52 times that of MAPbI_(3) synthesized using commercially available reagents.This simple yet robust strategy to manufactureMAPbI_(3) piezocatalysts paves a novel way to the large-scale and value-added consumption of Pb-containing waste residues. 展开更多

How does the coupled action of freeze-thaw and acidification affect the release of toxic elements from indigenous Zn smelting slags?

Under complicated field conditions,such as the coupled effects of freeze-thaw cycles(FTs)and acidification,the leaching behavior of potentially toxic element(PTEs)from indigenous Zn smelting slags(ZSS)was intricately connected to the mineralogy(e.g.,the composition,assemblage,microstructure of mineral particles).In this study,FTs tests were carried out to explore the interactions between PTEs release and ZSSmineralogy.Subsequently,advanced characterization techniqueswere adopted to quantify the mineralogy andmicrostructure of ZSS.The results indicated that ZSS were mainly composed of silicate minerals(e.g.,quartz,biotite and chlorite)and secondary Fe(III)oxyhydroxides(e.g.,magnetite and limonite),accounting for 67.48% and 24.23%,respectively.The occurrence mode analysis revealed that 81.95%of As,21.31%of Pb and 7.77% of Zn were hosted in limonite.About 37.89%,59.34% and 34.50% of Cd,Pb and Zn were associated with carbonate bound fractions.Under FTs interacting with different pH conditions,the leaching concentrations of As,Cd,Cu,Pb and Zn did not significantly increase with the increase in FTs and pH.The microstructure damage of mineral particles in ZSS with the higher porosity was caused by both FTs and proton corrosion.More importantly,the geochemical modeling results suggested that the precipitation of hematite and magnetite,as well as the dissolution of arsenolite,might have little impacts on PTEs release under FTs and FTs with acidification.This work would provide a deeper understanding of PTEs release from smelting waste slags under complex physicochemical interactions. 展开更多

The iron and steel industries generate large amounts of unavoidable CO_(2)emissions as well as considerable quantities of slags.More than one-half of the emitted CO_(2)is produced in blast furnaces during ironmaking,and thus it is meaningful to use blast furnace slags to capture CO_(2)while addressing the byproducts and flue gas of ironmaking.Mineral carbonation of slags is a promising route to achieve carbon neutrality and effective slag utilization.To exploit slag more effectively and capture CO_(2)in flue gas,an in-depth investigation into the carbonation of blast furnace slags generated with different cooling methods was conducted.The effects of the solid–liquid ratio and introduced CO_(2)concentration on carbonation were determined.The CO_(2)uptake capacity of air-cooled slag(0.04 g/g)was greater than that of water-quenched slag.The CO_(2)uptake capacities of the two slags were comparable with those of slags in previous works,indicating the potential of the two slags for CO_(2)sequestration and utilization even with low-energy input and this fact suggests that this process is feasible. 展开更多

Structural characteristics and viscous behaviors of Al_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2)-Fe_(2)O_(3) slags

The high-temperature properties of the Al_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2)-Fe_(2)O_(3) basic slag had significant influences on steelmaking opera-tions and waste slag utilization.To further clarify the structural characteristics and properties of Al_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2)-Fe_(2)O_(3)slags,the struc-tures and viscosities of the slags were researched.The slag liquidus temperature was determined,which decreased from 1365 to 1287℃ after 4.16wt%-8.52wt%Al_(2)O_(3) was added to the slags and then increased to 1356℃ after 17.07wt%Al_(2)O_(3) was added.Structure analysis indicated that increasing temperature depolymerized the structure of the 4.16wt%Al_(2)O_(3)-CaO-SiO_(2)-Fe_(2)O_(3) slag by decreasing the amount of complex AlO_(4) units and promoting the formation of simplified silicate monomers.The addition of Al_(2)O_(3) to slags could promote the polymerization of the slag structure by increasing the quantities of complex AlO_(4) tetrahedral and complicated Si-O units.Variations in the degree of structure polymerization showed similar trends at the same superheat degree and the same quenching temperature,and both samples could be used for analyzing the impact of Al_(2)O_(3) on slag structures.Finally,the viscous behavior of the present slag system was evaluated.Increasing Al_(2)O_(3) content could increase slag viscosity,and the apparent activation energy increased from 132.13 to 174.83 kJ/mol as the content of Al_(2)O_(3)increased from 4.16wt%to 17.07wt%. 展开更多

Dissolution kinetics of CaO·2Al_(2)O_(3)(CA_(2))particles in a synthetic CaO-Al_(2)O_(3)-SiO_(2)steelmaking slag system have been investigated using the high-temperature confocal laser scanning microscope.Effects of temperature(i.e.,1500,1550,and 1600℃)and slag composition on the dissolution time of CA_(2)particles are investigated,along with the time dependency of the projection area of the particle during the dissolution process.It is found that the dissolution rate was enhanced by either an increase in temperature or a decrease in slag viscosity.Moreover,a higher ratio of CaO/Al_(2)O_(3)(C/A)leads to an increased dissolution rate of CA_(2)particle at 1600℃.Thermodynamic calculations suggested the dissolution product,i.e.,melilite,formed on the surface of the CA_(2)particle during dissolution in slag with a C/A ratio of 3.8 at 1550℃.Scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry analysis of as-quenched samples confirmed the dissolution path of CA_(2)particles in slags with C/A ratios of 1.8 and 3.8 as well as the melilite formed on the surface of CA_(2)particle.The formation of this layer during the dissolution process was identified as a hindrance,impeding the dissolution of CA_(2)particle.A valuable reference for designing or/and choosing the composition of top slag for clean steel production is provided,especially using calcium treatment during the secondary refining process. 展开更多

The reaction behavior between CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–La_(2)O_(3)-based slags and La-bearing FeCrAl melt was quantitatively characterized,which was further compared with the reaction behavior of CaO–SiO_(2)-based slags.Based on this,the new type of mold flux for La-bearing FeCrAl alloy continuous casting was designed and its basic properties were evaluated.The results showed that the order of reaction degree of fluxing agents in CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–La_(2)O_(3)-based slags is(Na_(2)O)>(B_(2)O_(3))>(Li_(2)O),and the percentages of mass change of fluxing agents were 85.8,54.29 and 42.35 wt.%,respectively.Moreover,the addition of(Li_(2)O)and(Na_(2)O)promoted the reaction between(CaO)and[Al],and the reaction degree of the former was weaker than that of the latter,which was due to the greater effect of(Na_(2)O)on the activity of(CaO)and(Al_(2)O_(3))than(Li_(2)O).Compared with the reactivity of CaO–SiO_(2)-based slags,the percentages of mass change of Al and La caused by slag–steel reaction decreased by 10.63–14.36 and 39.78–50.49 wt.%,respectively.The percentages of mass change of(Al_(2)O_(3)),(La_(2)O_(3))and(CaO)in slags highest increased by 17.71,17.98,and 7.81 wt.%,respectively.The reactivity of CaO–Al_(2)O_(3)–La_(2)O_(3)-based slags was significantly weakened.Ultimately,the new type of mold flux was designed and the composition range was determined.The fundamental properties of new mold flux basically meet the theoretical requirements for La-bearing FeCrAl alloy continuous casting. 展开更多

The partition coefficient of boron (LB) between slag and silicon phase was studied under different conditions of slag basicity (CaO/SiO2 ratio), temperature, mass ratio of slag to silicon and gas blowing. The results show that LB has a maximum value of 4.61 when the CaO/SiO2 mass ratio is around 2 at l 873 K. The logarithm of LB is linear to the reciprocal of temperatures in the range of 1 773-1 973 K. LB increases with the increase of mass ratio of slag to silicon, but it does not increase markedly when the ratio excesses 3. Gas blowing can sionificantlv increase the removal of boron, and LR increases with the increase of water vapor content. 展开更多

In order to remove or reduce the negative effect of MgO in calcium aluminate slags, the method of adding Na2O into calcium aluminate slags was studied and its effect on leaching mechanism was also analyzed. The results show that the alumina leaching efficiency of the calcium aluminate slag increases from 68.73% to 80.86% with Na2O content increasing from 0 to 4% when MgO content is 3%. The XRD results show that the quaternary compound C20A13M3S3 disappears when Na2O content increases to 4%. The addition of Na2O cannot remove the negative effect of MgO on leachability completely. XRD and EDS results indicate that Na2O can come into the lattice of 12CaO·7Al2O3 and promote the formation of 12CaO·7Al2O3 展开更多

An iron-silicate slag, from a zinc-copper smelting process, and mixtures of this slag with 5wt%, 10wt%, and 15wt% alumina addition were re-melted, semi-rapidly solidified, and characterized using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The FactSageWM6.2 thermodynamic package was applied to compare the stable phases at equilibrium conditions with experimental characterization. A standard European leaching test was also carried out for all samples to investigate the changes in leaching behaviour because of the addition of alumina. Results show that the commonly reported phases for slags from copper and zinc production processes (olivine, pyroxene, and spinel) are the major constituents of the current samples. A correlation can be seen between mineralogical characteristics and leaching behaviours. The sample with 10wt% alumina addition, which contains high amounts of spinels and lower amounts of the other soluble phases, shows the lowest leachabilities for most of the elements. 展开更多

To recover metal from copper slags,a new process involving two steps of oxidative desulfurization followed by smelting reduction was proposed in which one hazardous waste(waste cathode carbon)was used to treat another(copper slags).The waste cathode carbon is used not only as a reducing agent but also as a fluxing agent to decrease slag melting point.Upon holding for 60 min in air atmosphere first and then smelting with 14.4 wt%waste cathode carbon and 25 wt%CaO for 180 min in high purity Ar atmosphere at 1450℃,the recovery rates of Cu and Fe reach 95.89%and 94.64%,respectively,and meanwhile greater than 90%of the fluoride from waste cathode carbon is transferred into the final slag as CaF_(2) and Ca_(2)Si_(2)F_(2)O_(7),which makes the content of soluble F in the slag meet the national emission standard.Besides,the sulphur content in the obtained Fe-Cu alloy is low to 0.03 wt%. 展开更多

The influences of slag compositions and basicity on FeO activities were analyzed. The results reveal that, for slags of fixed (%CaO)/(%SiO2) ratio, MgO and Al2O3 content, there was an increase of FeO activities with increase of FeO content. For slags with constant {(%CaO)+ (%MgO)}/(%SiO2) ratio, fixed FeO and A1203 content, FeO activities decreased when MgO content increased from 5% to 10%, and increased with the increase of MgO content when it was over 10%. The FeO activities increased when (%CaO)/(%SiO2) ratio changed from 1.03 to 1.30 in the slags of constant MgO, FeO and Al2O3 content. 展开更多

Viscosity is an important physical property of blast furnace slags and has a great influence on blast furnace operations. Because of time consumption and difficulties encountered during high temperature experimental measurement, viscosity data are also limited, so a rea-sonable and accurate estimation model is required to provide the data for controlling and optimizing the blast furnace process. In the present study a viscosity model was proposed for blast furnace slags. In the model the activation energy was calculated by the optical basicity cor-rected for cations required for the charge compensation of , and the temperature dependence was described by the Weymann-Frenkel equation. The estimated viscosity values of the CaO-Al2O3-SiO2, CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-MgO, and CaO-Al2O3-SiO2-MgO-TiO2 systems fit well with experiment data, with the mean deviation less than 25%. 展开更多

In this study, we experimentally investigated phosphate enrichment behavior in CaO-SiO2-FeO-Fe203-P205 slags with a P205 content of 5.00% and the binary basicity B ranging from 1.0 to 2.0, where the (%Fe/O)/(%CaO) mass percentage ratio was maintained at 0.955. The experimental results are explained by the defined enrichment degree c, of solid solution 2CaO·SiO2-3CaO·P205 (C2S-C3P), where R_C2S-C3P is a component of the developed ion and molecule coexistence theory (IMCT)-Ni model for calculating the mass action concentrations Ni of structural units in the slags on the basis of the IMCT. The asymmetrically inverse V-shaped relation be- tween phosphate enrichment and binary basicity B was observed to be correlated in the slags under applied two-stage cooling conditions. The maximum content of PROs in the C2S-C3P solid solution reached approximately 30.0% when the binary basicity B was controlled at 1.3. 展开更多

The crystallization has significant influence on fluidity of slag and slag discharge of entrained-flow-bed(EFB) gasifier. The crystallization characteristics and fluidity of five synthetic slags with different MgO/CaO ratios prepared on the basis of the range of oxide contents of Zhundong coal ash were investigated in this study. The results show that with the MgO/CaO ratio increase, the initial crystallization temperature increases, and the main temperature range of crystallization ratio growth moves to higher temperature range gradually which causes Tp25(Tp25is the temperature corresponding to the viscosity of 25 Pa·s)to increase. Mg-rich crystals are formed preferentially than Ca-rich crystals when adding the same amount of MgO and CaO during cooling. The effective slagging operating temperature range decrease from 217 ℃ for the slag with a 0:4 MgO/CaO ratio to 44 ℃ for the slag with a 4:0 MgO/CaO ratio with the MgO/CaO ratio increase. The slags with 2:2 and 1:3 MgO/CaO ratios show similar effective slagging operating temperature range, Tp25and the temperature corresponding to the viscosity of 2 Pa·s.However, compared with the slag with a 1:3 MgO/CaO ratio, the crystallization ratio and rate of slag with a 2:2 MgO/CaO ratio are lower within lower temperature range(1300–1200 ℃), causing its lower critical viscosity temperature and wider actual operating temperature range. Of the five slags, the widest effective slagging operating temperature range and the lowest Tp25of the slag with a 0:4 MgO/CaO ratio due to its low crystallization ratio, and wider actual operating temperature range of the slag with a 2:2 MgO/CaO ratio make the two slags suitable for slag discharge of EFB gasifier. 展开更多

In order to reasonably utilize the iron resources of copper slags, the smelting chlorination process was used to remove copper from copper slags. Higher holding temperature and O2 flow rate are beneficial to increasing copper removal rate. However,the Cu2O mode is formed by the reaction of surplus O2 and CuCl with O2 flow rate increasing over 0.4 L/min, causing CuCl volatilization rate and copper removal rate to decrease. The resulting copper removal rate of 84.34% is obtained under the optimum conditions of holding temperature of 1573 K, residence time of 10 min, Ca Cl2 addition amount of 0.1(mass ratio of CaCl2 and the copper slag) and oxygen flow rate of 0.4 L/min. The efficient removal of copper from copper slags through chlorination is feasible. 展开更多

The sulphide capacity of CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-MgO-FetO slags was studied at 1773 K using gas-slag equilibrium techniques. Utilizing a Pt crucible, the slag was equilibrated with a mixture of gases, namely, CO, CO2, SO2 and N2 to provide the partial pressure of oxygen and sulphur. It was shown that at fixed FetO and Al2O3 contents and a fixed { (%CaO)+(%MgO)}/(%SIO2) ratio, the sulphide capacity decreases with increasing MgO content. At a constant (%CaO)/(%SiO2) ratio and constant MgO and Al2O3 contents, increasing the FetO content of the slags also results in an increase of the sulphide capacity. The rising basicity of (%CaO)/(%SiO2) from 1.0 to 1.4 at fixed MgO, FetO and Al2O3 contents significantly increases the sulphide capacity. 展开更多

The reduction rate of Fe^tO in CaOSiO_2Al_2O_3Fe_tO slags with graphite powder has been determined in an alumina crucible at 1 673-1 823 K. The effects of temperature, slag basicity and Fe_tO content on the reduction rate have also been discussed. Test results show that the reduction rate increases with the increase of temperature or Fe_tO concentration in slags, and the reduction rate has a parabolic relation with slag simple basicity or optical basicity. The maximum reduction rate is observed around CaO/SiO_2=1.5 of molten slags. The reaction order is 1.26 or 1.31, and the reduction activation energy is 126.8 or 129.7 kJ/mol respectively in regard to Fe_tO content or Fe_tO activity calculated by using regular solution model. The reduction rate of Fe_tO in CaOSiO_2Al_2O_3Fe_tO slags with graphite powder is in the range of 0.15×10^-4-0.86×10^-4 molO/cm^2·s. 展开更多

The phosphorus-concentrating phase in the converter slags was designed and simulated by synthetic converter slag.The distribution of phosphorus in factory converter slags was also analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).Then factory converter slags were modified by addition of SiO_2 and heated to 1540℃and then cooled to room temperature.The results showed that the phosphorus in the factory converter slags was mostly distributed in two phases:dicalcium silicate (C_2S) and tricalcium silicate(C_3S) by formation of solid solution,and with a little in matrix.Whereas,in the synthetic slags with the basicity close to 3,phosphorus was almost concentrated in phase of C_2S(Pconcentrating phase) in which the contents of P_2O_5 reach to 7.74%.This lays a good foundation for grinding and separation of P- concentrating phase. 展开更多
