Conventional superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors(SNSPDs)have been typically limited in their applications due to their size, weight, and power consumption, which confine their use to laboratory settings. However, with the rapid development of remote imaging, sensing technologies, and long-range quantum communication with fewer topographical constraints, the demand for high-efficiency single-photon detectors integrated with avionic platforms is rapidly growing. We herein designed and manufactured the first drone-based SNSPD system with a system detection efficiency(SDE)as high as 91.8%.This drone-based system incorporates high-performance NbTiN SNSPDs,a self-developed miniature liquid helium dewar, and custom-built integrated electrical setups, making it capable of being launched in complex topographical conditions.Such a drone-based SNSPD system may open the use of SNSPDs for applications that demand high SDE in complex environments. 展开更多

Single-photon sensors are novel devices with extremely high single-photon sensitivity and temporal resolution. However, these advantages also make them highly susceptible to noise.Moreover,single-photon cameras face severe quantization as low as 1 bit/frame.These factors make it a daunting task to recover high-quality scene information from noisy single-photon data. Most current image reconstruction methods for single-photon data are mathematical approaches, which limits information utilization and algorithm performance. In this work,we propose a hybrid information enhancement model which can significantly enhance the efficiency of information utilization by leveraging attention mechanisms from both spatial and channel branches.Furthermore,we introduce a structural feature enhance module for the FFN of the transformer, which explicitly improves the model's ability to extract and enhance high-frequency structural information through two symmetric convolution branches.Additionally,we propose a single-photon data simulation pipeline based on RAW images to address the challenge of the lack of single-photon datasets.Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods in various noise levels and exhibits a more efficient capability for recovering high-frequency structures and extracting information. 展开更多

The estimation of quantum phase differences plays an important role in quantum simulation and quantum computation, yet existing quantum phase estimation algorithms face critical limitations in noisy intermediate-scale quantum(NISQ)devices due to their excessive depth and circuit complexity. We demonstrate a high-precision phase difference estimation protocol based on the Bayesian phase difference estimation algorithm and single-photon projective measurement. The iterative framework of the algorithm, combined with the independence from controlled unitary operations, inherently mitigates circuit depth and complexity limitations.Through an experimental realization on the photonic system,we demonstrate high-precision estimation of diverse phase differences, showing root-mean-square errors(RMSE)below the standard quantum limit𝒪(1/√N)and reaching the Heisenberg scaling𝒪(1/N)after a certain number of iterations. Our scheme provides a critical advantage in quantum resource-constrained scenarios, and advances practical implementations of quantum information tasks under realistic hardware constraints. 展开更多

A near-infrared(NIR) enhanced silicon single-photon avalanche diode(SPAD) detector is proposed using 0.18 μm bipolar-CMOS-DMOS technology. It is based on a deep multiplication region, formed by a junction between the highvoltage P-well(HVPW) and high-voltage buried N+ layer, to enhance the NIR photon detection probability(PDP). Thanks to the lightly doped P-type epitaxial layer, the electric field in the guard ring is reduced and premature breakdown is prevented. In particular, an extra P-type implantation layer(PIL) is added to the HVPW to reduce the breakdown voltage and enhance the device's sensitivity. Further research on the impact of different PIL sizes on the device performance is carried out. It is experimentally shown that at an excess bias voltage of 5 V, the optimized SPAD achieves a dark count rate of 0.64 cps/μm^(2), peak PDP of 54.8% at 555 nm and PDP of 10.53% at 905 nm. The full width at half-maximum of the timing jitter is 285 ps, and the afterpulsing probability is lower than 1.17%. This novel device provides a practical, low-cost solution for high-performance NIR time-of-flight detectors and 3D imaging sensors. 展开更多

A waveguide-QED with giant atoms, which is capable of accessing various limits of a small one, provides a new paradigm to study photon scatterings. Thus, how to achieve nonreciprocal photon transmissions via such a giant atom setup is highly desirable. In this study, the nonreciprocal single-photon scattering characteristics of a double-drivenΛ-type three-level giant atom, where one of the transition couples to a 1D waveguide at two separate points, and the other is driven by two coherent driving fields, are investigated. It is found that a frequency-tunable single-photon diode with an ideal contrast ratio can be achieved by properly manipulating the local coupling phases between the giant atom and the waveguide, the accumulation phase between the two waveguide coupling points, the Rabi frequencies and phase difference of the two driven fields.Compared to the previous single driving schemes,on the one hand, the presence of the second driving field can provide more tunable parameters to manipulate the nonreciprocal single-photon scattering behavior. On the other hand, here perfect nonreciprocal transmission for photons with arbitrary frequencies is achievable by tuning the driving phases while the two driving fields keep on turning, which provides an alternative way to control the nonreciprocal single-photon scattering.Furthermore, the results reveal that both the location and width of each optimal nonreciprocal transmission window is also sensitive to the driving detuning, and a single-photon diode with wide or narrow bandwidth can be realized based on demand. These results may be beneficial for designing nonreciprocal single-photon devices based on a double-driven giant atom setup. 展开更多

The development of InGaAs/InP single-photon avalanche photodiodes(SPADs)necessitates the utiliza-tion of a two-element diffusion technique to achieve accurate manipulation of the multiplication width and the dis-tribution of its electric field.Regarding the issue of accurately predicting the depth of diffusion in InGaAs/InP SPAD,simulation analysis and device development were carried out, focusing on the dual diffusion behavior of zinc atoms.A formula of X_(j)=k√t-t_(0)+c to quantitatively predict the diffusion depth is obtained by fitting the simulated twice-diffusion depths based on a two-dimensional(2D)model.The 2D impurity morphologies and the one-dimensional impurity profiles for the dual-diffused region are characterized by using scanning electron micros-copy and secondary ion mass spectrometry as a function of the diffusion depth,respectively.InGaAs/InP SPAD devices with different dual-diffusion conditions are also fabricated, which show breakdown behaviors well consis-tent with the simulated results under the same junction geometries. The dark count rate(DCR)of the device de-creased as the multiplication width increased,as indicated by the results.DCRs of 2×10^(6),1×10^(5),4×10^(4),and 2×10^(4) were achieved at temperatures of 300 K,273 K,263 K,and 253 K,respectively, with a bias voltage of 3 V,when the multiplication width was 1.5µm.These results demonstrate an effective prediction route for accu-rately controlling the dual-diffused zinc junction geometry in InP-based planar device processing. 展开更多

Encoding system plays a significant role in quantum key distribution(QKD).However, the security and performance of QKD systems can be compromised by encoding misalignment due to the inevitable defects in realistic devices. To alleviate the influence of misalignments,a method exploiting statistics from mismatched basis is proposed to enable uncharacterized sources to generate secure keys in QKD.In this work,we propose a scheme on four-intensity decoy-state quantum key distribution with uncharacterized heralded single-photon sources. It only requires the source states are prepared in a two-dimensional Hilbert space, and can thus reduce the complexity of practical realizations. Moreover,we carry out corresponding numerical simulations and demonstrate that our present four-intensity decoy-state scheme can achieve a much higher key rate compared than a three-intensity decoy-state method, and meantime it can obtain a longer transmission distance compared than the one using weak coherent sources. 展开更多

With a 50GHz digital sampling oscilloscope, the function and process of gated-mode (Geiger-mode) single-photon detection are intuitionally demonstrated for the first time. The performance of the detector as a gated-mode single-photon counter at wavelengths of 1310 and 1550nm is investigated. At the operation temperature of 203K,a quantum efficiency of 52% with a dark count probability per gate of 2.4 × 10 ^-3 ,and a gate pulse repetition rate of 50kHz are obtained at 1550nm. The action of needling in acupoint therapy has to first be regulated and integrated by the brain, and then it affects the target organ and manifests its therapeutic effects, which is dependent on the specificity of the acupoints. The authors put forward the hypothesis of the "acupoint-related brain". Single-photon emission computed tomography was used to explore the activation of brain regions following true needling in true acupoint Waiguan (SJ 5), sham needling in true acupoint Waiguan, true needling in a sham point, and sham needling in a sham point. The relative specificity of Waiguan in normal persons was analyzed by observing changes in regional cerebral blood flow. Compared with the sham needling in true acupoint group and sham needling in the sham point group, acupuncture at Waiguan can activate brain regions controlling movement. Compared with true needling in the sham point group, acupuncture at Waiguan can also activate brain regions controlling movement. The results suggest that the specificity of needling at an acupoint is related to certain activated cerebral functional regions, which are associated with the clinical application of the acupoint. 展开更多

Cavity optomechanical systems provide powerful platforms to manipulate photons and phonons, open potential ap- plications for modern optical communications and precise measurements. With the refrigeration and ground-state cooling technologies, studies of cavity optomechanics are making significant progress towards the quantum regime including non- classical state preparation, quantum state tomography, quantum information processing, and future quantum internet. With further research, it is found that abundant physical phenomena and important applications in both classical and quan- tum regimes appeal as they have a strong optomechanical nonlinearity, which essentially depends on the single-photon optomechanical coupling strength. Thus, engineering the optomechanical interactions and improving the single-photon optomechanical coupling strength become very important subjects. In this article, we first review several mechanisms, theoretically proposed for enhancing optomechanical coupling. Then, we review the experimental progresses on enhancing optomechanical coupling by optimizing its structure and fabrication process. Finally, we review how to use novel structures and materials to enhance the optomechanical coupling strength. The manipulations of the photons and phonons at the level of strong optomechanical coupling are also summarized. 展开更多

Dark count is one of the inherent noise types in single-photon diodes, which may restrict the performances of detectors based on these diodes. To formulate better designs for peripheral circuits of such diodes,an accurate statistical behavioral model of dark current must be established.Research has shown that there are four main mechanisms that contribute to the dark count in single-photon avalanche diodes. However,in the existing dark count models only three models have been considered, thus leading to inaccuracies in these models. To resolve these shortcomings, the dark current caused by carrier diffusion in the neutral region is deduced by multiplying the carrier detection probability with the carrier particle current at the boundary of the depletion layer. Thus,a comprehensive dark current model is constructed by adding the dark current caused by carrier diffusion to the dark current caused by the other three mechanisms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first dark count simulation model into which incorporated simultaneously are the thermal generation,trap-assisted tunneling,band-to-band tunneling mechanisms, and carrier diffusion in neutral regions to evaluate dark count behavior. The comparison between the measured data and the simulation results from the models shows that the proposed model is more accurate than other existing models, and the maximum of accuracy increases up to 31.48%when excess bias voltage equals 3.5 V and temperature is 50℃. 展开更多

Single-photon entanglement(SPE) is an important source in quantum communication. In this paper, we put forward a single-photon-assisted noiseless linear amplification protocol to protect the SPE of an arbitrary polarization–time-bin qudit from the photon transmission loss caused by the practical channel noise. After the amplification, the fidelity of the SPE can be effectively increased. Meanwhile, the encoded polarization–time-bin features of the qudit can be well preserved. The protocol can be realized under the current experimental conditions. Moreover, the amplification protocol can be extended to resist complete photon loss and partial photon loss during the photon transmission. After the amplification, we can not only increase the fidelity of the target state, but also solve the decoherence problem simultaneously. Based on the above features, our amplification protocol may be useful in future quantum communication. 展开更多

The 1.55-μm quantum-dot (QD) micropillar cavities are strongly required as single photon sources (SPSs) for silica-fiber-based quantum information processing. Theoretical analysis shows that the adiabatic distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) structure may greatly improve the quality of a micropillar cavity. An InGaAsP/InP micropillar cavity is originally difficult, but it becomes more likely usable with inserted tapered (thickness decreased towards the center) distributed DBRs. Simulation turns out that, incorporating adiabatically tapered DBRs, a Si/SiO2- InP hybrid micropillar cavity, which enables weakly coupling InAs/InP quantum dots (QDs), can even well satisfy strong coupling at a smaller diameter. Certainly, not only the tapered structure, other adiabatic designs, e.g., both DBR layers getting thicker and one thicker one thinner, also improve the quality, reduce the diameter, and degrade the fabrication difficulty of Si/SiO2-InP hybrid micropillar cavities. Furthermore, the problem of the thin epitaxial semiconductor layer can also be greatly resolved by inserting adiabatic InGaAsP/InP DBRs. With tapered DBRs, the InGaAsP/InP-air-aperture micro-pillar cavity serves as an efficient, coherent, and monolithically producible 1.55-μm single-photon source (SPS). The adiabatic design is thus an effective way to obtain prospective candidates for 1.55-μm QD SPSs. 展开更多

Round-robin differential phase shift (RRDPS) is a novel quantum key distribution protocol which can bound information leakage without monitoring signal disturbance. In this work, to decrease the effect of the vacuum component in a weak coherent pulses source, we employ a practical decoy-state scheme with heralded singlephoton source for the RRDPS protocol and analyze the performance of this method. In this scheme, only two decoy states are needed and the yields of single-photon state and multi-photon states, as well as the bit error rates of each photon states, can be estimated. The final key rate of this scheme is bounded and simulated over transmission distance. The results show that the two-decoy-state method with heralded single-photon source performs better than the two-decoy-state method with weak coherent pulses. 展开更多

Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) with a composite optical structure composed of phase-grating and optical cavity structures are designed to enhance both the system detection efficiency and the response bandwidth. Numerical simulation by the finite-difference time-domain method shows that the photon absorption capacity of SNSPDs with a composite optical structure can be enhanced significantly by adjusting the parameters of the phase-grating and optical cavity structures at multiple frequency bands. The absorption capacity of the superconducting nanowires reaches 70%, 72%, 60.73%, 61.7%, 41.2%, and 46.5% at wavelengths of 684, 850, 732, 924, 1256, and 1426nm, respectively. The multi-channel SPD improve the counting rate more than 4×10~7 cps, which makes possible for the distance measurement performed even in daylight. However, the time-correlated single-photon counting(TCSPC) technique cannot distill the signal easily while the fast moving targets are submersed in the strong background. We propose a dynamic TCSPC method for fast moving targets measurement by varying coincidence window in real time. Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors(SNSPDs) have attracted considerable attention owing to their excellent detection performance;however, the underlying physics of the detection process is still unclear. In this study, we investigate the wavelength dependence of the intrinsic detection efficiency(IDE) for NbN SNSPDs.We fabricate various NbN SNSPDs with linewidths ranging from 30 nm to 140 nm.Then, for each detector, the IDE curves as a function of bias current for different incident photon wavelengths of 510–1700 nm are obtained. From the IDE curves, the relations between photon energy and bias current at a certain IDE are extracted. The results exhibit clear nonlinear energy–current relations for the NbN detectors, indicating that a detection model only considering quasiparticle diffusion is unsuitable for the meander-type NbN-based SNSPDs.Our work provides additional experimental data on SNSPD detection mechanism and may serve as an interesting reference for further investigation. 展开更多
