Research on the mechanical–electrical properties is crucial for designing and preparing high-temperature superconducting(HTS)cables.Various winding core structures can influence the mechanical–electrical behavior of...Research on the mechanical–electrical properties is crucial for designing and preparing high-temperature superconducting(HTS)cables.Various winding core structures can influence the mechanical–electrical behavior of cables,but the impact of alterations in the winding core structure on the mechanical–electrical behavior of superconducting cables remains unclear.This paper presents a 3D finite element model to predict the performance of three cables with different core structures when subjected to transverse compression and axial tension.The three cables analyzed are CORC(conductor-on-round-core),CORT(conductor-on-round-tube),and HFRC(conductor-on-spiral-tube).A parametric analysis is carried out by varying the core diameter and inner-to-outer diameter ratio.Results indicate that the CORT cable demonstrates better performance in transverse compression compared to the CORC cable,aligning with experimental data.Among the three cables,the HFRC cables exhibit the weakest resistance to transverse deformation.However,the HFRC cable demonstrates superior tensile deformation resistance compared to the CORT cable,provided that the transverse compression properties are maintained.Finite element results also show that the optimum inner-to-outer diameter ratios for achieving the best transverse compression performance are approximately 0.8 for CORT cables and 0.6 for HFRC cables.Meanwhile,the study explores the effect of structural changes in HTS cable winding cores on their electromagnetic properties.It recommends utilizing small tape gaps,lower frequencies,and spiral core construction to minimize eddy losses.The findings presented in this paper offer valuable insights for the commercialization and practical manufacturing of HTS cables.展开更多
This study investigates the nonlinear resonance responses of suspended cables subjected to multi-frequency excitations and time-delayed feedback.Two specific combinations and simultaneous resonances are selected for d...This study investigates the nonlinear resonance responses of suspended cables subjected to multi-frequency excitations and time-delayed feedback.Two specific combinations and simultaneous resonances are selected for detailed examination.Initially,utilizing Hamilton’s variational principle,a nonlinear vibration control model of suspended cables under multi-frequency excitations and longitudinal time-delayed velocity feedback is developed,and the Galerkin method is employed to obtain the discrete model.Subsequently,focusing solely on single-mode discretization,analytical solutions for the two simultaneous resonances are derived using the method of multiple scales.The frequency response equations are derived,and the stability analysis is presented for two simultaneous resonance cases.The results demonstrate that suspended cables exhibit complex nonlinearity under multi-frequency excitations.Multiple solutions under multi-frequency excitation can be distinguished through the frequency–response and the detuning-phase curves.By adjusting the control gain and time delay,the resonance range,response amplitude,and phase of suspended cables can be modified.展开更多

However, the simultaneous navigation of USV-ROV s...The integrated systems of unmanned surface vehicles(USVs) and remotely operated vehicles(ROVs) have been extensively applied in marine exploration and seabed coverage. However, the simultaneous navigation of USV-ROV systems is frequently limited by strong disturbances induced by waves or currents. This paper develops a novel rigidflexible coupling multibody dynamic model that incorporates disturbances of variable-length marine cables with geometrically nonlinear motion. A hybrid Lagrangian-Eulerian absolute nodal coordinate formulation(ANCF) element is developed to accurately model subsea cables which undergo significant overall motion, substantial deformation,and mass flow during the deployment of underwater equipment. Furthermore, the governing equations of the coupled USV-umbilical-ROV system are derived, considering wave-induced forces and current disturbances. A numerical solver based on the Newmark-beta method is proposed, along with an adaptive meshing technique near the release point. After validating three experimental cases, the cable disturbances at both the USV and ROV ends—caused by ocean currents, heave motion, and simultaneous navigation—are comprehensively compared and evaluated. Finally,it is demonstrated that a PD controller with disturbance compensation can enhance the simultaneous navigation performance of USV-ROV systems.展开更多

The test results show that the reinforcement suppresse...Large-scale shaking table tests were conducted to study the dynamic response of a slope reinforced by double-row anti-sliding piles and prestressed anchor cables. The test results show that the reinforcement suppressed the acceleration amplification effectively. The axial force time histories are decomposed into a baseline part and a vibration part in this study. The baseline part of axial force well revealed the seismic slope stability, the peak vibration values of axial force of the anchor cables changed significantly in different area of the slope under seismic excitations. The peak lateral earth pressure acting on the back of the anti-sliding pile located at the slope toe was much larger than that acting on the back of the anti-sliding pile located at the slope waist. The test results indicate an obvious load sharing ratio difference between these two anti-slide piles, the load sharing ratio between the two anti-sliding piles located at the slope toe and the slope waist varied mainly in a range of 2-5. The anti-slide pile at the slope waist suppressed the horizontal displacement of the slope surface.展开更多

A simple and accurate method to determine the initial equilibrium state of cable systems associated with self-weights, buoyancy and the motion of end points is presented using the load incremental method combined with penalty method. Stay cables, the primary load carrying components of cable-stayed bridges (CSBs), are characterised by high flexi-bility which increases with the span of the bridge. This makes stay cables vulnerable to local vibratio...Stay cables, the primary load carrying components of cable-stayed bridges (CSBs), are characterised by high flexi-bility which increases with the span of the bridge. This makes stay cables vulnerable to local vibrations which may have significant effects on the dynamic responses of long-span CSBs. Hence, it is essential to account for these effects in the assessment of the dynamics CSBs. In this paper, the dynamic responses of CSBs under vehicular loads are studied using the finite element method (FEM), while the local vibration of stay cables is analyzed using the substructure method. A case study of a cable-stayed steel bridge with a center span of 448 m demonstrates that stay cables undergo large displacements in the primary mode of the whole bridge although, in general, a cable’s local vibrations are not obvious. The road surface roughness has significant effects on the interaction force between the deck and vehicle but little effect on the global response of the bridge. Load impact factors of the main girder and tower are small, and the impact factors of the tension of cables are larger than those of the displacements of girders and towers.展开更多

The main aim of the experi...The experimental studies on flow-induced vibrations(FIV) reduction of two side-by-side flexible cylinders inclined at 45° by using the helical strakes were carried out in a towing tank. The main aim of the experiment is to check whether the helical strakes with a pitch of 17.5 D and a height of 0.25 D, which is considered as the most effective vibration suppression device for the isolated cylinder undergoing vortex-shedding, still perform very well to reduce FIV of two inclined flexible cylinders in a side-by-side arrangement. The vibration of two identical inclined cylinders with a mass ratio of 1.90 and an aspect ratio of 350 was tested in the experiment. The center-to-center distance between the two cylinders was 3.0 D. The uniform flow was simulated by towing the cylinder models along the tank.The towing velocity varied from 0.05 to 1.0 m/s with an interval of 0.05 m/s. The maximum Reynolds number can be up to 1.6×104. Three cases were experimentally studied in this paper, including two side-by-side inclined smooth cylinders, only one smooth cylinder fitted with helical strakes in the two side-by-side inclined cylinders system and both two cylinders attached with helical strakes. The variations of displacement amplitude, dominant frequency, FIV suppression efficiency and dominant mode for the two side-by-side inclined cylinders with reduced velocity were shown and discussed.展开更多

The n...The solution of tension distributions is infinite for cable-driven parallel manipulators(CDPMs) with redundant cables. A rapid optimization method for determining the optimal tension distribution is presented. The new optimization method is primarily based on the geometry properties of a polyhedron and convex analysis. The computational efficiency of the optimization method is improved by the designed projection algorithm, and a fast algorithm is proposed to determine which two of the lines are intersected at the optimal point. Moreover, a method for avoiding the operating point on the lower tension limit is developed. Simulation experiments are implemented on a six degree-of-freedom(6-DOF) CDPM with eight cables, and the results indicate that the new method is one order of magnitude faster than the standard simplex method. The optimal distribution of tension distribution is thus rapidly established on real-time by the proposed method.展开更多

Prestressed tensioning method is a kind of nondestructive testing method, by which a reverse stretching load is applied on the external exposure section of anchor cable under construction or in service, and then the elongation variation of stress bars is measured to determine the anchor stress. We elaborated the theory and testing mechanism of prestressed tensioning method, and systematically studied key issues during the prestressed tensioning process of anchor cable by using physical model test, including the composition of tension stress-elongation curve, the variation of anchor stress, the compensation of locked anchor stress, and the judgment of anchor stress, and verified the theory feasibility of prestressed tensioning method. A case study on slope anchor cable of one highway project was conducted to further discuss on the test method, operation procedures and judgment of prestressed tensioning method on obtaining anchor stress, and then the test data of three situations were analyzed. The result provides a theoretical basis and technical base for the application of prestressed tensioning method to the evaluation of construction quality and operation conditions of anchor cable project.展开更多

In this study, we investigate the hydrodynamic responses of three barges moored side-by-side in a floatover operation in the frequency and time domains. In the frequency domain, the damping lid method is adopted to improve the overestimated hydrodynamic coefficients calculated from conventional potential flow theory. A time-domain computing program based on potential flow theory and impulse theory is compiled for analyses that consider multibody hydrodynamic interactions and mechanical effects from lines and fenders. Correspondingly, an experiment is carried out for comparison with the numerical results. All statistics, time series, and power density spectra from decay and irregular wave tests are in a fairly good agreement.展开更多

In practical engineering, it is difficult to ensure that the designed pre-stresses of cables have been exactly introduced into the structures in the site; so it is necessary to evaluate the influence of the variation of the pre-stresses on the structural behavior. In the present work, an orthogonal design method was employed to investigate the pre-stressed cables' sensitivity to the suspen-dome system. The investigation was concentrated on a Kiewitt suspen-dome. Parametric studies were carried out to study the sensitivity of the structure's static behavior, dynamic behavior, and buckling loads when the pre-stresses in the cables varied. The investigation indicated that suspen-dome structures are sensitive to the pre-stresses in all cables; and that the sensitivity depended on the location of the cables and the kind of structural behavior. Useful suggestions are given at the end of the paper.展开更多
A series of three-dimensional numerical simulations is carried out to investigate the effect of inclined angle on flow behavior behind two side-by-side inclined cylinders at low Reynolds number Re=100 and small spacin...A series of three-dimensional numerical simulations is carried out to investigate the effect of inclined angle on flow behavior behind two side-by-side inclined cylinders at low Reynolds number Re=100 and small spacing ratio T/D=1.5 (T is the center-to-center distance between two side-by-side cylinders, D is the diameter of cylinder). The instantaneous and time-averaged flow fields, force coefficients and Strouhal numbers are analyzed. Special attention is focused on the axial flow characteristics with variation of the inclined angle. The results show that the inclined angle has a significant effect on the gap flow behaviors behind two inclined cylinders. The vortex shedding behind two cylinders is suppressed with the increase of the inclined angle as well as the flip-flop gap flow. Moreover, the mean drag coefficient, root-mean-square lift coefficient and Strouhal numbers decrease monotonously with the increase of the inclined angle, which follows the independent principle at small inclined angles.展开更多
This study provides new insights into the comparison of cable-stayed and extradosed bridges based on the safety assessment of their stay cables.These bridges are often regarded as identical structures owing to the use...This study provides new insights into the comparison of cable-stayed and extradosed bridges based on the safety assessment of their stay cables.These bridges are often regarded as identical structures owing to the use of inclined cables;however,the international standards for bridge design stipulate different safety factors for stay cables of both types of bridges.To address this misconception,a comparative study was carried out on the safety factors of stay cables under fatigue and ultimate limit states by considering the effects of various untoward and damaging factors,such as overloading,cable loss,and corrosion.The primary goal of this study is to describe the structural disparities between both types of bridges and evaluate their structural redundancies by employing deterministic and nondeterministic methods.To achieve this goal,three-dimensional finite-element models of both bridges were developed based on the current design guidelines for stay cables in Japan.After the balanced states of the bridge models were achieved,static analyses were performed for different safety factors of stay cables in a parametric manner.Finally,the first-order reliability method and Monte Carlo method were applied to determine the reliability index of stay cables.The analysis results show that cable-stayed and extradosed bridges exhibit different structural redundancies for different safety factors under the same loading conditions.Moreover,a significant increase in structural redundancy occurs with an incremental increase in the safety factors of stay cables.展开更多

文摘Stay cables, the primary load carrying components of cable-stayed bridges (CSBs), are characterised by high flexi-bility which increases with the span of the bridge. This makes stay cables vulnerable to local vibrations which may have significant effects on the dynamic responses of long-span CSBs. Hence, it is essential to account for these effects in the assessment of the dynamics CSBs. In this paper, the dynamic responses of CSBs under vehicular loads are studied using the finite element method (FEM), while the local vibration of stay cables is analyzed using the substructure method. A case study of a cable-stayed steel bridge with a center span of 448 m demonstrates that stay cables undergo large displacements in the primary mode of the whole bridge although, in general, a cable’s local vibrations are not obvious. The road surface roughness has significant effects on the interaction force between the deck and vehicle but little effect on the global response of the bridge. Load impact factors of the main girder and tower are small, and the impact factors of the tension of cables are larger than those of the displacements of girders and towers.

文摘The experimental studies on flow-induced vibrations(FIV) reduction of two side-by-side flexible cylinders inclined at 45° by using the helical strakes were carried out in a towing tank. The main aim of the experiment is to check whether the helical strakes with a pitch of 17.5 D and a height of 0.25 D, which is considered as the most effective vibration suppression device for the isolated cylinder undergoing vortex-shedding, still perform very well to reduce FIV of two inclined flexible cylinders in a side-by-side arrangement. The vibration of two identical inclined cylinders with a mass ratio of 1.90 and an aspect ratio of 350 was tested in the experiment. The center-to-center distance between the two cylinders was 3.0 D. The uniform flow was simulated by towing the cylinder models along the tank.The towing velocity varied from 0.05 to 1.0 m/s with an interval of 0.05 m/s. The maximum Reynolds number can be up to 1.6×104. Three cases were experimentally studied in this paper, including two side-by-side inclined smooth cylinders, only one smooth cylinder fitted with helical strakes in the two side-by-side inclined cylinders system and both two cylinders attached with helical strakes. The variations of displacement amplitude, dominant frequency, FIV suppression efficiency and dominant mode for the two side-by-side inclined cylinders with reduced velocity were shown and discussed.

文摘Flexible segment model (FSM) is adopted for the dynamics calculation of marine cable being laid. In FSM, the cable is divided into a number of flexible segments, and nonlinear governing equations are listed according to the moment equilibriums of the segments. Linearization iteration scheme is employed to obtain the numerical solution for the governing equations. For the cable being laid, the payout rate is calculated from the velocities of all segments. The numerical results are shown of the dynamic motion and tension of marine cables being laid during velocity change of the mother vessels.

文摘This paper presents a numerical analysis of the dynamic transient behaviors of undersea cables.In this numerical study,the governing equations based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory are adopted,and they can satisfy many applications no matter what the magnitude of the cable tension is.The nonlinear coupled equations are solved by a popular central finite difference method,and the numerical results of transient behaviors are presented when several kinds of surrounding conditions,such as different towing speeds of surface vessel,different currents and waves with various frequencies and amplitudes,are exerted.Then a detailed comparison of the results,including the upper end tension and cable shape in time-domain,is made under the above external excitations,and finally the possible reasons for these are further explained.

文摘The solution of tension distributions is infinite for cable-driven parallel manipulators(CDPMs) with redundant cables. A rapid optimization method for determining the optimal tension distribution is presented. The new optimization method is primarily based on the geometry properties of a polyhedron and convex analysis. The computational efficiency of the optimization method is improved by the designed projection algorithm, and a fast algorithm is proposed to determine which two of the lines are intersected at the optimal point. Moreover, a method for avoiding the operating point on the lower tension limit is developed. Simulation experiments are implemented on a six degree-of-freedom(6-DOF) CDPM with eight cables, and the results indicate that the new method is one order of magnitude faster than the standard simplex method. The optimal distribution of tension distribution is thus rapidly established on real-time by the proposed method.

文摘The anchor stress extent of a prestress anchor cable project has a direct relation with the project safety and performance. Prestressed tensioning method is a kind of nondestructive testing method, by which a reverse stretching load is applied on the external exposure section of anchor cable under construction or in service, and then the elongation variation of stress bars is measured to determine the anchor stress. We elaborated the theory and testing mechanism of prestressed tensioning method, and systematically studied key issues during the prestressed tensioning process of anchor cable by using physical model test, including the composition of tension stress-elongation curve, the variation of anchor stress, the compensation of locked anchor stress, and the judgment of anchor stress, and verified the theory feasibility of prestressed tensioning method. A case study on slope anchor cable of one highway project was conducted to further discuss on the test method, operation procedures and judgment of prestressed tensioning method on obtaining anchor stress, and then the test data of three situations were analyzed. The result provides a theoretical basis and technical base for the application of prestressed tensioning method to the evaluation of construction quality and operation conditions of anchor cable project.

文摘Simulating the coupled motions of multiple bodies in the time domain is a complex problem because of the strong hydrodynamic interactions and coupled effect of various mechanical connectors. In this study, we investigate the hydrodynamic responses of three barges moored side-by-side in a floatover operation in the frequency and time domains. In the frequency domain, the damping lid method is adopted to improve the overestimated hydrodynamic coefficients calculated from conventional potential flow theory. A time-domain computing program based on potential flow theory and impulse theory is compiled for analyses that consider multibody hydrodynamic interactions and mechanical effects from lines and fenders. Correspondingly, an experiment is carried out for comparison with the numerical results. All statistics, time series, and power density spectra from decay and irregular wave tests are in a fairly good agreement.

文摘The construction of the cables is a key step for erecting suspen-dome structures. In practical engineering, it is difficult to ensure that the designed pre-stresses of cables have been exactly introduced into the structures in the site; so it is necessary to evaluate the influence of the variation of the pre-stresses on the structural behavior. In the present work, an orthogonal design method was employed to investigate the pre-stressed cables' sensitivity to the suspen-dome system. The investigation was concentrated on a Kiewitt suspen-dome. Parametric studies were carried out to study the sensitivity of the structure's static behavior, dynamic behavior, and buckling loads when the pre-stresses in the cables varied. The investigation indicated that suspen-dome structures are sensitive to the pre-stresses in all cables; and that the sensitivity depended on the location of the cables and the kind of structural behavior. Useful suggestions are given at the end of the paper.

文摘A series of three-dimensional numerical simulations is carried out to investigate the effect of inclined angle on flow behavior behind two side-by-side inclined cylinders at low Reynolds number Re=100 and small spacing ratio T/D=1.5 (T is the center-to-center distance between two side-by-side cylinders, D is the diameter of cylinder). The instantaneous and time-averaged flow fields, force coefficients and Strouhal numbers are analyzed. Special attention is focused on the axial flow characteristics with variation of the inclined angle. The results show that the inclined angle has a significant effect on the gap flow behaviors behind two inclined cylinders. The vortex shedding behind two cylinders is suppressed with the increase of the inclined angle as well as the flip-flop gap flow. Moreover, the mean drag coefficient, root-mean-square lift coefficient and Strouhal numbers decrease monotonously with the increase of the inclined angle, which follows the independent principle at small inclined angles.
文摘This study provides new insights into the comparison of cable-stayed and extradosed bridges based on the safety assessment of their stay cables.These bridges are often regarded as identical structures owing to the use of inclined cables;however,the international standards for bridge design stipulate different safety factors for stay cables of both types of bridges.To address this misconception,a comparative study was carried out on the safety factors of stay cables under fatigue and ultimate limit states by considering the effects of various untoward and damaging factors,such as overloading,cable loss,and corrosion.The primary goal of this study is to describe the structural disparities between both types of bridges and evaluate their structural redundancies by employing deterministic and nondeterministic methods.To achieve this goal,three-dimensional finite-element models of both bridges were developed based on the current design guidelines for stay cables in Japan.After the balanced states of the bridge models were achieved,static analyses were performed for different safety factors of stay cables in a parametric manner.Finally,the first-order reliability method and Monte Carlo method were applied to determine the reliability index of stay cables.The analysis results show that cable-stayed and extradosed bridges exhibit different structural redundancies for different safety factors under the same loading conditions.Moreover,a significant increase in structural redundancy occurs with an incremental increase in the safety factors of stay cables.
