The Effects of Contact Interface on the Friction Characteristics of Self-assembly Monolayers

The effects of different contact interfaces on the friction characteristics of OTS self-assembled monolayers were investigated by a universal micro-tribometer in different sliding velocities. The results indicate that there exist lower friction coefficients between OTS SAMs and Ti, Ni and Cu films deposited on GCr15 steel balls than those between OTS SAMs and GCr15 steel ball. The friction coefficient between OTS SAMs and Ti film is the largest, and the friction coefficient between OTS SAMs and Cu film is the least in these three films, which depends on the intrinsic characteristics of the materials. The friction coefficients between OTS SAMs and GCr15 steel ball and three nanometer films increase with the sliding velocity increasing, which can be explained by the relaxation characteristics of OTS molecules. 展开更多

Molecular tailoring of self-assembled hole-transporting monolayers(SAMs)has been proven as an efficient approach for improving the device performance of inverted perovskite solar cells.Herein,a novel SAM with extended conjugation is designed and synthesized,named NaPh-4PACz.Compared to Ph-4PACz,NaPh-4PACz exhibits a larger adsorption energy with the ITO substrate,enabling the formation of a more uniform and dense film,thereby preventing direct contact between the perovskite and ITO.Additionally,NaPh-4PACz also has a stronger interaction with the perovskite,which can reduce buried interface defects and suppress non-radiative recombination.Consequently,NaPh-4PACz-based devices achieved a power conversion efficiency of 25.48%due to their interfacial“adhesive”ability.Importantly,the stability of the NaPh-4PACz-based devices was significantly improved. 展开更多

Structural Factors Tuning Peptide Proton Transport via Self-Assembly Monolayers

Proton transport(PT)in solid-state materials is crucial for applications in energy conversion and protonic devices.Nevertheless,the highly complex and disordered structures of conventional proton-conducting materials,such as polymers and proteins,hinder a clear understanding of the mechanisms underlying PT,particularly the formation of hydrogen bond(H-bond)networks and their role in mediating PT.Here,we show that self-assembling monolayers(SAMs)of oligopeptides provide a promising platform for elucidating the key factors that modulate PT related H-bonds,including amide bond interactions,peptide sequence,and chain length.Combined with structural characterizations of SAMs,the electrical measurements under both direct and alternating current modes demonstrate that longer and more extended oligopeptide chains in SAMs result in an ordered molecular arrangement,leading to a more pronounced response of current density(J)to increasing relative humidity(RH).Moreover,this increase in molecular order also shifts the transition from electron-dominated to proton-dominated charge transport to a higher RH.The synergy between carrier concentration and mobility is a key factor contributing to the increase in J.This study not only elucidates the critical role of ordered H-bonds in PT but also expands the application of SAM technology in controlling molecular conformation and enhancing proton conduction. 展开更多

Peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-assisted visible-light photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants using graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))presents a promising and environmentally friendly approach.However,pristine g-C_(3)N_(4) suffers from limited visible-light absorption and low charge-carrier mobility.In this study,a phosphorus-doped tubular carbon nitride(5P-TCN)was synthesized via a precursor self-assembly method using phosphoric acid and melamine as raw materials,eliminating the need for organic solvents or templates.The 5P-TCN catalyst demonstrated enhanced visible-light absorption,improved charge transfer capability,and a 5.25-fold increase in specific surface area(31.092 m^(2)/g),which provided abundant active sites to efficiently drive the PMS-assisted photocatalytic reaction.The 5P-TCN/vis/PMS system exhibited exceptional degradation performance for organic pollutants across a broad pH range(3–9),achieving over 92%degradation of Rhodamine B(RhB)within 15 min.Notably,the system retained>98%RhB degradation efficiency after three consecutive operational cycles,demonstrating robust operational stability and reusability.Moreover,key parameters influencing,active radi-cals,degradation pathways,and potential mechanisms for RhB degradation were systematically investigated.This work proposes a green and cost-effective strategy for developing high-efficiency photocatalysts,while demon-strating the exceptional capability of a PMS-assisted photocatalytic system for rapid degradation of RhB. 展开更多

Self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)have been commonly employed as hole-selective layers(HSLs)in inverted(p-i-n)perovskite solar cells(PSCs),and typically only a single-component SAM is applied,which plays limited role in selective hole transport.Herein,we synthesize a novel SAM,(4-(3,11-dibro mo-7H-dibenzo[c,g]carbazol-7-yl)butyl)phosphonic acid(Br-4PADBC),and apply it as a complementary component to the commonly used[2-(3,6-dimeth oxy-9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethyl]phosphonic acid(MeO-2PACz)SAM,accomplishing boosted hole transport in inverted PSCs.A series of characterizations and theoretical calculations are employed to unravel the roles of each components within the binary SAM(bi-SAM).The involvements of the non-planar dibenzo[c,g]carbazole unit and electron-withdrawing Br atoms induce larger dipole moment of Br-4PADBC than MeO-2PACz,resulting in much deeper work function of ITO and consequently improved alignment with the valence band energy level of perovskite.Besides,the introduced Br atoms improve the quality of perovskite crystals and help passivate defects of perovskite.On the other hand,the existence of the conventional MeO-2PACz SAM ensures the considerable conductivity of the bi-SAM and thus efficient hole extraction from the perovskite layer.As a result,inverted PSC devices based on bi-SAM HSL deliver a decent power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 24.52%as well as dramatically improved thermal and operational stabilities. 展开更多

Self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)are widely used as hole transport materials in inverted perovskite solar cells,offering low parasitic absorption and suitability for semitransparent and tandem solar cells.While SAMs have shown to be promising in small-area devices(≤1 cm^(2)),their application in larger areas has been limited by a lack of knowledge regarding alternative deposition methods beyond the common spin-coating approach.Here,we compare spin-coating and upscalable methods such as thermal evaporation and spray-coating for[2-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethyl]phosphonic acid(2PACz),one of the most common carbazole-based SAMs.The impact of these deposition methods on the device performance is investigated,revealing that the spray-coating technique yields higher device performance.Furthermore,our work provides guidelines for the deposition of SAM materials for the fabrication of perovskite solar modules.In addition,we provide an extensive characterization of 2PACz films focusing on thermal evaporation and spray-coating methods,which allow for thicker 2PACz deposition.It is found that the optimal 2PACz deposition conditions corresponding to the highest device performances do not always correlate with the monolayer characteristics. 展开更多

Inverted p-i-n perovskite solar cells(PSCs)based on self-assembled monolayers(SAMs)as hole-selective layers(HSLs)have produced potential record efficiencies of more than 26%by tuning work function,dipole,and passivation defects.However,the stability of the SAM molecules,the stability of the molecular anchoring conformation,and the impact on the stability of subsequent PSCs have not been clearly elucidated.In this review,we systematically discussed the intrinsic connection between the molecular conformation(including anchoring groups,spacer groups,and terminal groups)and the stability of SAMs.Sequentially,the research progress of SAMs as HSLs in improving the stability of PSCs is summarized,including photostability,thermal stability,ion migration,and residual stress.Finally,we look forward to the shortcomings and possible challenges of using SAMs as HSLs for inverted PSCs. 展开更多

Two supramolecular organic frameworks(SOFs)have been constructed from the co-assembly of biimidazolium-derived octacationic components and cucurbit[8]uril in water.Dynamic light scattering and ^(1)H NMR experiments reveal that both SOFs can undergo reversible assembly and disassembly at room temperature.One of the SOFs displays unprecedently high maximum tolerated dose of 120 mg/kg with mice,which improves by 40%compared with the highest value of the reported SOFs.In vitro and in vivo tests show that the SOF can adsorb doxorubicin and overcome the resistance of multidrugresistant MDR A549/ADR tumor cells to realize intracellular delivery,leading to enhanced antitumor efficacy.Moreover,it can also completely inhibit the posttreatment phototoxicity of photofrin and fully neutralize the anticoagulation of both unfractionated heparin and low molecular weight heparins through efficient inclusion and elimination or sequestration mechanism.As the first examples that undergo roomtemperature reversible assembly and disassembly,the new SOFs in principle allow for quantitative analysis of the molecular components in the body that is prerequisite for preclinical evaluation in the future. 展开更多

Herein,a reusable and portable surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)sandpaper was successfully synthesized for the sensitive detection of S-fenvalerate in foods.Commercial sandpapers were decorated with Ag@SiO2@Au nanoarrays via a liquid-liquid interface self-assembly method.The capacity of sandpaper to float directly on the cyclohexane-water interface allows nanoarrays to be formed directly on it,thereby minimizing stacking issues typically associated with nanoarray assemblies and significantly enhancing the sensitivity of S-fenvalerate detection.Moreover,the SERS sandpaper was reusable and portable due to its strong adhesion of the nanoarrays.Under optimized testing conditions,the developed SERS sandpaper method was capable of detecting S-fenvalerate,demonstrating a strong linear response within a concentration range of 10^(–7)–10^(3)μmol/L,with a limit of detection of 1.92×10^(−8)μmol/L.The analysis of spiked food samples containing S-fenvalerate using the developed SERS sandpaper afforded excellent recoveries(92.2%−109.7%).Additionally,the SERS sandpaper was successfully applied to quantify S-fenvalerate in real food samples,with results consistent with analyses conducted using gas chromatography. 展开更多

Photo-responsive azobenzene (ABZ) derivatives with different end groups (R) as photoswitchable molecules were employed to construct self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on silicon substrate by using 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTS) as the bridging molecules. The assembly process was optimized by changing various parameters, including the type and concentration of ABZ derivatives, reaction time, etc. The obtained SAMs were fully characterized and evaluated using UV spectroscopy, atomic force microscope (AFM), elllipsometer, static contact angle and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It is found that the end group property of azobenzene derivatives is critical to the obtained SAMs' photoresponsive properties. Compared with hydrophobic compounds (4-(4'-aminophenylazo) benzoic acid, ABZ-CF3), the hydrophilic compounds (4-(4'-aminophenylazo) benzoic acid, ABZ-COOH) show excellent reversible photoswitching performance with a large contact angle change of 35° under oDtimized process, and the SAMs are removable bv thermal treatment at 240 ℃ in air for onlv 5 min. 展开更多

Dielectric properties of dithiol self-assemble monolayers (SAMs) under ac electric field were presented, Using a Hg-SAM/SAM-Ⅱg junction, the ac impedances of dithiol SAMs were measured using a sinusoidal perturbation of 30 mV (peak to-peak) with the frequency ranging from 1 Hz to 1 MHz at zero bias. The contributions from dithiol SAMs and solvent interlayers were separated due to their different behaviors at ac impedance. The peak position in the loss spectra (the plot; of tgδ vs. frequency) moves to low frequcney with the incrcase of chain length of dithiols. Using a correlation of peak position with the chain length, the active energies of 23-39 meV for dithiol SAMs of C6-C10 under an ac electric field were derived, 展开更多

Surface and morphological characterizations were studied by Fourier transformed in-frared spectroscopy (FTIR), water contact angle measurement and atomic force microscopy (AFM). And the elec-trochemical study on the corrosion inhihition of the SAMs was performed by polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (E1S) for evaluating the corrosion protection of the SAMs. The results show that TDPA was able to form a film spontaneously on the SS430 surface and the hydrophobic SAMs could protect SS430 from corrosion effectively. In addition, the oxide surface formed by the heat pretreatment could accelerate the rate of ad-sorption, but had little effect on improving the inhibition efficiency. 展开更多

The electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) is used to investigate the characteristics of the thiolated self-assembled monolayer(SAM) on gold surface.A 5MHz QCM element serves as both the mass-sensitive sensor and the working electrode of the electrochemical system.The 6-mecapto-1-hexanol and and the 16-mer oligonucleotide with a mercaptohexyl group at the 5'-phosphate end are utilized to form the SAM on the gold electrode.The frequency response of the QCM during cyclic voltammetry (CV) scanning and cbronoamperometry are recorded together with the electrochemical current.The experimental results indicates that the frequency response is more sensitive to the surface coverage.Therefore,the response of the EQCM reveals more details of the SAM on gold electrode.It is especially useful for analysing the immobilization quality,such as probe orientation and coverage,of the SAM. 展开更多

Monolayer chemically converted graphene (CCG) nanosheets can be homogeneously self-assembled onto silicon wafer modified by 3-aminopr- opyl triethoxysilane (APTES) to form very thin graphene film. The CCG film was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM and AFM. Results show that CCG sheets formed monolayer film after assembled onto silicon wafer and there is a very tight chemical bond between sheets and wafer. Furthermore, the electrical measurements revealed that the monolayer graphene film has an excellent electrical conductivity. 展开更多

SrTiO3 thin film was successfully prepared on the functionalized organic self-assembled monolayers(SAMs) by the Liquid Phase Deposition(LPD) method.The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),atomic force microscope(AFM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and metallographic microscope.Measurement of contact angle showed that the hydrophobe substrate was changed into hydrophile by UV irradiation.AFM photographs of octadecyl-trichloro-silane self-assembled monolayer(OTS-SAM) surface approved that UV irradiation did change the morphology of OTS monolayer and provided evidence for the conversion of hydrophilic characteristic.Photographs of Metallographic Microscope showed that OTS-SAM had an active effect on the deposition of SrTiO3 thin film.XRD and SEM indicated that the thin film was of pure cubic phase SrTiO3 and composed of nanosized grains with a size in the range of 100-500 nm.The formation mechanism of the SrTiO3 film was proposed. 展开更多

Self-assembled monolayers(SAMs) of thiol-derivatized porphyrin molecules on Au substrate have attracted extensively interest for use in sensing,optoelectronic devices and molecular electronics.In this paper,tetra-[p-(3-mercaptopropyloxy)-phenyl]porphyrin was synthesized and self-assembled with thiol on Au substrate for porphyrin SAMs(PPS 4).The electrochemical results demonstrated that PPS 4 could form excellent SAMs on gold surface.Self-assembled nanojunctions of PPS 4 were fabricated by using gold nanogap electrodes(gap width:ca.100 nm).With the light on/off,the nanojunctions showed current high/low as nanometer scaled photo switch. 展开更多

Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) are ordered organic films formed by adsorption of an active organic coating on a solid surface. Their formation provides an alternative, highly innovative, to current traditional chemical treatments of the titanium surfaces. For this reason the structural phases, the formation and the growth of SAMs is described from a surface science point of view. Particulars are given to SAMs on titanium concerning surface morphology, chemical composition and affinity of specific head group for Ti surfaces (silanes, siloxane, phosphonates and phosphates). Preparation, coating methodologies, limitations and techniques used for the characterization of SAMs are reported. For their physicochemical characteristics and micro-nano scale features some perspectives of using SAMs in biomedical application are outlined. 展开更多
