The balance between the erosion phenomenon and the amount of sediment entering into the basin relies on the geometrical specifications and the morphology of the river along the water catchment direction and the amount and type of the sediments. The sedimentary feed of rivers and basins are changed for the sake of natural factors or human disturbances. The river and basin react against this change in that their shape, morphology, plan and profile get changed due to the increase or decrease of the input sediment into the basin. It is essential to know the sediment amount produced by erodability and sedimentation of upstream basins and effects of projects and also to evaluate the amount of sedimentary load in base studies, civil projects, optimizing rivers and dam construction studies specially calculating the amount of sediment amount entering into the dams’ reservoirs in order to take engineering decisions and related alternatives. Sediment Weight Model and PSIAC Experimental Model are recognized as two common methods calculating the amount of the produced sediment caused by erosion applied in this research. Holistically, these methods have been used and compared. Although the results are almost close to one another, more sediment load has been produced in PSIAC method. As more affective parameters are used to cause erosion and produce sediment in PSIAC experimental model, it is recommended to refer to the results of this method because they are closer to reality.展开更多

To obtain the best possible combination of the impact factors (magnetic intensity, FAMC dosage, flocculant dosage, and feed speed) for minimum overflow turbidity, a response surface methodology test coupled with a four-factor five-level central composite design was conducted. The synergy mechanism of FAMC and flocculant was analyzed based on the potential measurement and scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the flocculant dosage, overflow turbidity, and solid content can be reduced by 50%, 90%, and 80%, while the handling capacity per unit and efficiency of backfill and dry stacking can be promoted by 20%, 17%, and 13%, respectively, with a magnetic intensity of 0.3 T, FAMC dosage of 200 mL/t, flocculant dosage of 30 g/t, and feed speed of 0.6 t/(m^2·h). Therefore, synergy of FAMC and flocculant has obvious efficiency in saving energy and protecting the environment by allowing 70×10^6 t/a of argillized ultrafine tailings slurry to be disposed safely and efficiently with a cost saving of more than 53×106 Yuan/a, which gives it great promise for use in domestic and foreign mines.展开更多

文摘Based on recent advancements in shale oil exploration within the Ordos Basin, this study presents a comprehensive investigation of the paleoenvironment, lithofacies assemblages and distribution, depositional mechanisms, and reservoir characteristics of shale oil of fine-grained sediment deposition in continental freshwater lacustrine basins, with a focus on the Chang 7_(3) sub-member of Triassic Yanchang Formation. The research integrates a variety of exploration data, including field outcrops, drilling, logging, core samples, geochemical analyses, and flume simulation. The study indicates that:(1)The paleoenvironment of the Chang 7_(3) deposition is characterized by a warm and humid climate, frequent monsoon events, and a large water depth of freshwater lacustrine basin. The paleogeomorphology exhibits an asymmetrical pattern, with steep slopes in the southwest and gentle slopes in the northeast, which can be subdivided into microgeomorphological units, including depressions and ridges in lakebed,as well as ancient channels.(2)The Chang 7_(3) sub-member is characterized by a diverse array of fine-grained sediments, including very fine sandstone, siltstone, mudstone and tuff. These sediments are primarily distributed in thin interbedded and laminated arrangements vertically. The overall grain size of the sandstone predominantly falls below 62.5μm,with individual layer thicknesses of 0.05–0.64 m.The deposits contain intact plant fragments and display various sedimentary structure, such as wavy bedding,inverse-to-normal grading sequence, and climbing ripple bedding, which indicating a depositional origin associated with density flows.(3)Flume simulation experiments have successfully replicated the transport processes and sedimentary characteristics associated with density flows. The initial phase is characterized by a density-velocity differential, resulting in a thicker, coarser sediment layer at the flow front, while the upper layers are thinner and finer in grain size.During the mid-phase,sliding water effects cause the fluid front to rise and facilitate rapid forward transport. This process generates multiple“new fronts”,enabling the long-distance transport of fine-grained sandstones, such as siltstone and argillaceous siltstone, into the center of the lake basin.(4)A sedimentary model primarily controlled by hyperpynal flows was established for the southwestern part of the basin, highlighting that the frequent occurrence of flood events and the steep slope topography in this area are primary controlling factors for the development of hyperpynal flows.(5)Sandstone and mudstone in the Chang 7_(3) sub-member exhibit micro-and nano-scale pore-throat systems, shale oil is present in various lithologies, while the content of movable oil varies considerably, with sandstone exhibiting the highest content of movable oil.(6)The fine-grained sediment complexes formed by multiple episodes of sandstones and mudstones associated with density flow in the Chang 7_(3) formation exhibit characteristics of“overall oil-bearing with differential storage capacity”.The combination of mudstone with low total organic carbon content(TOC)and siltstone is identified as the most favorable exploration target at present.

文摘Sedimentation in reservoirs is a significant challenge that affects water storage capacity and operational efficiency. This study establishes a baseline sedimentation status for Mwimba Reservoir in Kasungu,Malawi, five years after its commissioning in 2017,using an integrated bathymetric survey and Geographic Information System(GIS)analysis.A bathymetric survey conducted in March 2022 collected depth measurements at 507 points along 23 transects, which were used to construct a Triangulated Irregular Network(TIN)model in ArcGIS for accurate volume calculations.Sediment concentration was determined from seven water samples using the filtration method. The original design volume of 89,200 m^(3)was compared to the current volume of 72,966 m^(3),indicating an 18.2% loss in capacity over the five-year period.Statistical analysis using a one-sample T-test confirmed that this reduction is significant(p=0.013).The annual sedimentation rate was estimated at 1.25 tonnes per year, and the reservoir’s projected operational life is 27.5 years if no intervention is undertaken.Despite a relatively low sedimentation rate compared to other regional reservoirs, targeted sediment management and further catchment analysis are essential. This study provides critical baseline data for future sediment monitoring, management, and conservation planning for Mwimba Reservoir and similar small water bodies in Sub-Saharan Africa.

文摘Understanding the sedimentation and simultaneous consolidation behavior of xanthan gum(XG)-biopolymer-treated soils remains a significant research gap in developing environmentally friendly ground-improvement techniques for geotechnical applications. This study addresses this gap by conducting laboratory experiments on kaolinite suspensions with varying XG-to-kaolinite mass ratios(mb/ms).The results showed that the XG treatment modified the sedimentation patterns by promoting larger floc formation and accelerated settling.Additionally, the XG treatment enhanced the shear stiffness and shear strength, particularly at shallow depths. At mb/ms ratios less than 1%,the volume compression was reduced by the XG;the coefficient of compressibility decreased by 49%at 1%mb/ms,and the consolidation was accelerated,as indicated by a 387%increase in the hydraulic conductivity at 0.5%mb/ms under the vertical effective stress of 40 kPa.Contrastingly,at mb/ms ratios greater than 1%,viscous XG hydrogels clogged pores, resulting in a 45%reduction in the coefficient of consolidation at 2%mb/ms under a vertical effective stress of 15 kPa and a 35%decrease in the hydraulic conductivity at 2%mb/ms under a vertical effective stress of 40 kPa.These findings underscore the potential of XG treatment in improving the sedimentation and consolidation processes, highlighting its applicability in geotechnical projects, such as dredging, landfilling, and artificial island construction.

文摘The Zhujiang River Mouth Basin,a primary depocenter for terrigenous sediments in the western Pacific, presents a semienclosed tectonic setting with limited exchange with the open ocean. This unique feature enables systematic linkages among sedimentary processes, climate change, regional sea-level fluctuations, and tectonic events. To explore these linkages, this study focuses on Well PY35 in the Baiyun Sag of the Zhujiang River Mouth Basin.By integrating microfossil analysis with Milankovitch cycle analysis of well log data,an astronomical time scale(ATS)(17.54-7.80 Ma)and a high-resolution stratigraphic framework were established, allowing for the calculation of sedimentation rates across different hierarchical sequences and time intervals. The results indicate that between 17.54 Ma and 7.80 Ma,the sedimentation rate initially increased and then decreased, ranging from 6.1 cm/ka to 45.7 cm/ka,with an average rate of 22.2 cm/ka.During the Middle Miocene Climatic Optimum(MMCO),sedimentation rates were moderate and exhibited an increasing trend, largely driven by increased sediment input due to enhanced weathering from rising temperatures and by expanded accommodation space resulting from tectonic subsidence.Meanwhile, the Middle Miocene Climate Transition(MMCT)was marked by a notable rise in sedimentation rates, consistent with a major sea-level fall due to global cooling, which promoted the direct seaward progradation of marginal sediments. The Late Middle Miocene to Late Miocene had the lowest sedimentation rates, which can be attributed to reduced weathering under cold and arid conditions, along with a sea-level rise induced by regional tectonics. The short-term increase in the sedimentation rate observed at 10.4 Ma may have been driven by sea-level fluctuations. This study provides both theoretical and empirical support for understanding the influence of abrupt climate changes on sedimentary processes.

文摘Sedimentation sludge water(SSW),a prominent constituent of wastewater from drinking water treatment plants, has received limited attention in terms of its treatment and utilization likely due to the perceived difficulties associated with managing SSW sludge. This study comprehensively evaluated the water quality of SSW by comparing it to a well-documented wastewater(filter backwash water(FBW)).Furthermore,it investigated the pollutant variations in the SSW during pre-sedimentation process, probed the underlying reaction mechanism, and explored the feasibility of employing a pilot-scale coagulation-sedimentation process for SSW treatment. The levels of most water quality parameters were generally comparable between SSW and FBW.During the pre-sedimentation of SSW,significant removal of turbidity, bacterial counts, and dissolved organic matter(DOM)was observed. The characterization of DOM components, molecular weight distributions, and optical properties revealed that the macromolecular proteinaceous biopolymers and humic acids were preferentially removed. The characterization of particulates indicated that high surface energy, zeta potential, and bridging/adsorption/sedimentation/coagulation capacities in aluminum residuals of SSW,underscoring its potential as a coagulant and promoting the generation and sedimentation of inorganic-organic complexes. The coagulation-sedimentation process could effectively remove pollutants from low-turbidity SSW([turbidity]0<15 NTU).These findings provide valuable insights into the water quality dynamics of SSW during the pre-sedimentation process, facilitating the development of SSW quality management and enhancing its reuse rate.

文摘This study focuses on tuffaceous clastic rocks of the Lower Cretaceous Qingshuihe Formation in the southern margin of Junggar Basin. It aims to explore the influence of sedimentation and parent rock on this kind of reservoir development. The results show that the tuffaceous components formed by the denudation of ultramafic and mafic rocks can transform into chlorite coating or hematite, while those from intermediate rock denudation can be dissolved or transformed into illite.Sedimentary facies and lithofacies are essential in controlling the evolutionary result of tuffaceous components.Matrix-supported medium conglomerate and grain-supported medium-fine conglomerate that developed in the fan delta plain, with a closed original geochemical systems, have been in the oxidizing environment for a long time. The tuffaceous matrices mainly transforms into hematite or illite. These minerals occupy the primary pores and are difficult to dissolve by felsic fluids, which inhibits the development of high-quality reservoirs. The grain-supported sandy fine conglomerate developed in the fan delta front was in the underwater reductive environment with an open original geochemical system. The tuffaceous matrices not only can transform into chlorite coating to strengthen the particle's compaction resistance, but also can be fully dissolved, which promotes the formation of high-quality reservoirs.

文摘In order to accelerate the sedimentation of super-large-scale argillized ultrafine tailings with bad features such as low settling velocity, muddy overflow water, and large flocculant dosage, a fly-ash-based magnetic coagulant (FAMC) was used in a dynamic experimental device. Therefore, synergy of FAMC and flocculant has obvious efficiency in saving energy and protecting the environment by allowing 70×10^6 t/a of argillized ultrafine tailings slurry to be disposed safely and efficiently with a cost saving of more than 53×106 Yuan/a, which gives it great promise for use in domestic and foreign mines.

文摘Fluoroquinolones(FQs)have the propensity to accumulate in sediments once introduction into aquatic envi-ronments,thereby posing potential threats to benthic organisms, yet the ecotoxicity of sediment-associated FQs remains unclear. In this study, the toxicokinetics and responses of multiple biomarkers in Bellamya aeruginosa, exposed to the three commonly used FQs(norfloxacin,NOR;ciprofloxacin,CIP;levofloxacin,LEVO)at envi-ronmentally relevant concentrations were investigated under sediment exposure scenario. The results revealed that FQs were effectively ingested by B.aeruginosa from sediments,CIP showing the highest bioaccumulation(180.59μg/kg),followed by NOR(74.49μg/kg)and LEVO(36.02μg/kg).CIP exhibiting a highest uptake rate constant(Ks)(4.64 g/(g·day))and the lowest elimination rate constant(K_(e))(0.05 g/(g·day)).The descending order of biological half-life is as follows:CIP(13.62 days),LEVO(8.14 days),and NOR(6.83 days).NOR induced the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione-S-transferase while CIP and LEVO depressed their activities and increased malondialdehyde content, indicating a more pronounced oxidative damage to B.aerug-inosa caused by CIP and LEVO than NOR.Furthermore, all three FQs were found to induce DNA damage and elevate acetylcholinesterase activity, suggesting distinct genotoxic and neurotoxic effects.Interestingly, despite its low bioaccumulation potential,LEVO exhibited high toxicity towards B.aeruginosa.These findings enhance our understanding of the ecotoxicity of FQs in sediments, providing further evidence of their potential ecological risks.
文摘Noncohesive particle clusters are identified and tracked in turbulent flows to determine the breakdown and time evolution of cluster statistics and their implications for interscale mass transfer, which has connections to the classical turbulent energy cascade and its mass cascade counterpart running in parallel. In particular, the formation and dynamics of sediment and larvae clusters are of interest to coral larvae settlement in coastal regions and particularly the resilience of green-gray coastal protection solutions.Analogous cluster behavior is relevant to cloud microphysics and precipitation initiation, radiation transport and light transmission through colloids and suspensions, heat and mass transfer in particle-laden flows, and viral and pollutant transmission.Following a comparison between various clustering techniques,we adopt a density-based cluster identification algorithm based on its simplicity and efficiency, where particles are clustered based on the number of neighboring particles in their individual spheres of influence. We establish parallels with lattice-based percolation theory,as evident in the power-law scaling of the cluster size distribution near the percolation threshold. The degree of discontinuity of the phase transition associated with this percolation threshold is observed to broaden with larger Stokes numbers and thereby large-scale clustering. The sensitivity of our findings to the employed clustering algorithm is discussed.A novel cluster tracking algorithm is deployed to determine the interscale transfer rate along the particle-number phase-space dimension via accounting of cluster breakup and merger events, extending previous work on the bubble breakup cascade beneath surface breaking waves. Our findings shed light on the interaction between particle clusters and their carrier turbulent flows, with an eye toward transport models incorporating cluster characteristics and dynamics.

文摘Accurate identification of sediment sources and erosion hotspots is crucial for implementing targeted soil and water conservation measures. This study analyzed the temporal dynamics of sediment source contributions during seven rainfall events(A_(1)–A_(7))that generated both runoff and suspended sediment at the outlet of the Hantaichuan watershed, located in the wind–water erosion crisscross region of the northern Loess Plateau,China.A total of 82 suspended sediment samples were collected at the Xiangshawan hydrological station during 2021 and 2022.Additionally,145 soil samples were collected from three primary potential sources:sandy soil, loess soil, and Pisha sandstone.Mid-infrared(MIR)spectroscopy and geochemical fingerprinting were used to trace and quantify sediment sources. For MIRbased source apportionment, twelve predictive models were developed using partial least squares regression(PLSR)and support vector machine regression(SVMR)in combination with six spectral preprocessing techniques. The PLSR model with first-derivative Savitzky–Golay(SGD1)preprocessing achieved the best performance.Source apportionment results indicated that Pisha sandstone was the dominant sediment source(44.00%–72.23%),followed by sandy soil(14.23%–37.00%)and loess soil(10.01%–24.00%).Among the analyzed rainfall events, the contribution of Pisha sandstone was lowest in the small flow magnitude event A3(57.53%)and highest in the large flow magnitude event A6(63.48%),suggesting that sediment source composition was strongly controlled by rainfall event magnitude. Both MIR spectroscopic and geochemical fingerprinting methods showed high consistency, confirming MIR spectroscopy as a reliable,non-destructive,and cost-effective alternative for rapid sediment source apportionment and for supporting erosion control prioritization in highly erodible catchments.

文摘In this study,we perform particle-resolved simulations of settling spheroidal particles, considering oblate and prolate spheroids and spheres, and investigate the shape effect on the particle dynamics in suspensions with volume fraction 1%and 5%.We first examine the single-point statistics of the translational and rotational motion of the settling particles. The horizontal velocity has a symmetrical distribution with standard deviation dependent on the particle shape. The greater horizontal velocity fluctuations of the non-spherical particles, compared to that of spheres, are attributed to the horizontal drift of settling spheroids with oblique orientations induced by the fluid-particle and particle-particle interactions. The fluctuation of particle vertical velocity, instead,is skewed under the effect of wake-induced hydrodynamic interactions.Further,we explore the particle pair statistics, which demonstrate the formation of column-like particle micro-structures for the lowest volume fraction considered. This clustering is more pronounced for spheroidal particles than spheres, due to the stronger attractions among vertically-aligned settling spheroids. Moreover, the particle pair statistics are directly related to the collision rate among the dispersed particles. The local accumulation of oblate/prolate spheroids serves as the major mechanism to promote the particle-particle collisions in dilute suspensions.

文摘As an essential component of terrestrial carbon sinks, lake sediments store vast quantities of both organic carbon(OC)and inorganic carbon(IC).However, the spatiotemporal relationship between the OC and IC in sediments and their responses to climate change remains unclear, which hinders the comprehensive understanding of carbon dynamics in lake ecosystems. This study systematically analyzes the spatiotemporal dynamics of carbon burial across the Tibetan Plateau using surface sediments from 119 lakes and sediment cores from four representative lakes. Results show that OC burial dominates in humid and dry sub-humid zones, whereas IC burial prevails in arid and semi-arid regions. This distribution reflects the influences of lake and catchment productivity and water chemistry on OC and IC patterns.Sediment cores confirm that these factors have consistently affected lake carbon burial over the past century.Specifically,in humid and dry sub-humid zones, increased precipitation enhances watershed productivity and sedimentation, promoting coupled OC and IC burial. In arid and semi-arid regions,wind-driven dust supplies nutrients and alters water chemistry, also driving coupled OC and IC burial.Based on these findings, the carbon sink capacity of lake sediments on the Tibetan Plateau is projected to increase under the“warming and wetting”trend.

文摘With the legislative development, the organic and inorganic composition separation has become the primary requirement for sewer sediment disposal, however the relevant technology has been rarely reported and the driving mechanism was still unclear. In this study, direct disintegration of biopolymers and indirect broken of connection point were investigated on the hydrolysis and component separation.Three typical sewer sediment treatment approaches,i.e.,alkaline,thermal and cation exchange treatments were proposed, which represented the hydrolysis-driving forces of chemical hydrolysis, physical hydrolysis and innovative cation bridging break-age.The results showed that the organic and inorganic separation rates of sewer sediment driven by alkaline, thermal and cation exchange treatments reached 21.26%,23.80%,and 19.56%-48.0%,respectively,compared to 4.43%in control. The secondary structure of proteins was disrupted, transitioning from𝛼α-helix to𝛽β-turn and random coil.Meanwhile, much biopolymers were released from solid to the liquid phase. From thermody-namic perspective, sewer sediment deposition was controlled by short-range interfacial interactions described by extended Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek theory.Additionally, the separation of organic and inorganic components was positively correlated with the thermodynamic parameters(Corr=0.87),highlighted the robust-ness of various driving forces. And the flocculation energy barriers were 2.40(alkaline),1.60 times(thermal),and 4.02–4.97 times(cation exchange)compared to control group. The findings revealed the contrition differ-ence of direct disintegration of gelatinous biopolymers and indirect breakage of composition connection sites in sediment composition separation, filling the critical gaps in understanding the specific mechanisms of sediment biopolymer disintegration and intermolecular connection breakage.

文摘Phosphogypsum,an industrial solid waste,is an effective binder for partially replacing cement in stabilizing dredged sediments.Acid rain,as a worldwide ecological problem, also affects the long-term stability and sustainability of geotechnical materials and structures. However, the research on leaching effects and long-term durability of phosphogypsum-stabilized soils under acid rain conditions is limited and remains a significant challenge for practical applications. This study investigates the leaching effects and long-term durability of phosphogypsum-stabilized soils by simulating acid rain erosion through semi-dynamic leaching tests.Key parameters, including leached Ca^(2+)concentration,leachate pH,and unconfined compressive strength after leaching, were evaluated.Microscopic analyses with X-ray diffraction(XRD)and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)were also conducted to explore the underlying mechanisms. The results indicate that the presence of phosphogypsum in stabilized soil with high water content shows a significant improvement in leaching resistance subjected to acid ions, evidencing a lower Ca^(2+)concentration and pH value in the leachate, and a higher strength after leaching compared to those samples without phosphogypsum.SEM images and XRD analysis revealed that samples with higher phosphogypsum content possess denser structures due to more needle-shaped ettringite and other minerals in the soil matrix, contributing to improved strength and leaching resistance. The enhanced strength and leaching resistance of phosphogypsum-stabilized soil can be attributed to additional gel formation,a rise in swelling potential, ettringite bridging, and a denser microstructure, which reduces Ca^(2+)availability for leaching in acidic environments.

文摘Identifying geohazards such as landslides and methane leakage is crucial during gas extraction from natural gas hydrate(NGH)reservoirs, and understanding reservoir settlement behavior is central to this assessment.Horizontal wells can enlarge the pressure relief zone within the formation, improving single-well productivity, and are therefore considered a promising approach for NGH development. This study examines the settlement response of hydrate-bearing sediments during depressurization using horizontal wells.A fully coupled thermal, hydraulic, mechanical, and chemical(THMC)model with representative reservoir properties(Shenhu region in the South China Sea)is presented accordingly. The simulations show that lower production pressures, while increasing gas output, also intensify formation settlement. The maximum difference in settlement between the lowest and highest production pressures reaches 0.016 m,contributing to more pronounced differential subsidence.Optimal well placement, specifically targeting a low-saturation hydrate zone containing free gas and situated adjacent to a high-saturation hydrate layer, markedly improves both gas production rate and cumulative yield, while reducing overall settlement and limiting changes in effective stress.

文摘Chlorophyll-a is the most abundant chlorophyll pigment produced by marine phytoplankton, and it bears the isotope signature of the nitrate source assimilated in the N-atoms that are embedded in its porphyrin ring. The chloropigment and its degradation product,i.e.,pheophytin-a,could be well preserved in marine sediment, usually at nanomolar level.A sensitive and accurate measurement of theδ15N of chloropigment is capable of providing rich information to greatly enhance our understanding of past nitrogen cycling, which therefore is urgently needed.Hereby,we present a successful method based on two-step HPLC separation followed by'denitrifier method'.The N-content in acetone and potassium persulfate(K_(2)S_(2)O_(8))are very critical to the precision and accuracy of the measurements, because they constitute the majority of the N contamination to the Chl-a samples. In this method, the recrystallized K_(2)S_(2)O_(8)that is used as oxidization reagent was discovered to have aδ15N background of-15‰,consolidated by repeated examinations over a period of two months. This 15N background of K_(2)S_(2)O_(8)would cause-1‰–-2‰deviation on theδ^(15)N of sample that contains nanomolar level N,and highlight the need to examine theδ^(15)N of recrystallized K_(2)S_(2)O_(8)when it is used to oxidize samples of organic nitrogen. The overall measurement ofδ^(15)N pigment is reliable and has an average analytical precision better than±0.5‰(1σ).This study establish a sensitive method for accurate measurement of theδ^(15)N of nano-molar level chlorophyll pigment, and with no doubts will advance its wide application in marine nitrogen cycling studying.
