Drawing on the theory of representation, it contends that both forms of knowledge are socially constructed, moulded by communication, norms and group dynamics. Rather than labelling non-scientific thought as flawed or regressive, the discussion shows how decontextualization and recontextualization processes apply equally to everyday ‘natural' knowledge and formal science, exposing the social and historical contingencies shaping concepts. Consequently, rupture appears less a sudden break than a gradual threshold reached through dialectical transformations in cognition and society. Rather than conferring total superiority on science, ruptures highlight how certain discourses gain legitimacy while others become ‘non-knowledge'. The article concludes that science's dominance reflects broader power relationships and evolving modes of production and validation. By situating epistemological rupture within these processes, it illuminates how different knowledge forms coexist, evolve and sometimes conflict in stratified social fields—ultimately challenging a simplistic binary between scientific progress and supposedly primitive or natural thought. This viewpoint opens new possibilities for examining the shifting boundaries between rational explanations and the shared beliefs shaping collective reality and daily life.展开更多

Contemporary studies of city networks have tended to focus on economic interactions without paying sufficient attention to the issue of knowledge flow. Using data on co-authored papers obtained from China Academic Journal Network Publishing Database (CAJNPD) during 2014-2016, this study explores several features of the scientific collaboration network between Chinese mainland cities. The study concludes that: (1) the spatial organization of scientific cooperation amongst Chinese cities is shifting from a jurisdiction-based hierarchical system to a networked system; and (2) several highly intra-connected city regions were found to exist in the network of knowledge, and such regions had more average internal linkages (14.21) than external linkages (8.69), and higher average internal linkage degrees (14.43) than external linkage degrees (10.43); and (3) differences existed in terms of inter-region connectivity between the Western, Eastern, and Central China regional networks (the average INCD of the three regional networks were 109.65, 95.81, and 71.88). We suggest that China should engage in the development of regional and subregional scientific centers to achieve the goal of building an innovative country. Whilst findings reveal a high degree of concentration in those networks - a characteristic which reflects the hierarchical nature of China's urban economic structure - the actual spatial distribution of city networks of knowledge flow was found to be different from that of city networks based on economic outputs or population.展开更多

With the help of the knowledge transfer theory and data from scientific literature databases, we explored the behavior of scientific researchers during their scholarly communication, and studied the factors that influenced the behavior of researchers under network environment. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the literature databases of CNKI, Elsevier Science Direct and Springer Link, we used the knowledge transfer theory to construct a model for describing the scholarly communication process, which attempts to find out factors that may influence the communication behavior of researchers. With a focus laid on the absorption behavior of researchers during the knowledge acceptance process, we defined the independent variables of the model and proposed hypotheses on the basis of a comprehensive literature study. Afterwards, college students were invited to participate in a questionnaire survey, which was designed to prove our research model and hypotheses.Findings: Our results showed that during the scholarly communication, it is not the professional knowledge, but the ability and willingness for knowledge acceptance, organizations’ importance and internal atmosphere as well as knowledge authority and relevance that have played a positive significant role in the knowledge transfer performance. In addition, our distance indicators showed that knowledge distance and knowledge transfer performance have significant negative correlations. Research limitations: This study is mainly based on a questionnaire survey of college students, which may limit the generalization of our research results. In addition, more resource types need be considered for further studies.Practical implications: Under network environment, scholarly communication performance based on knowledge transfer theory could greatly contribute to the enrichment of the contentof the knowledge transfer theory, and stretch out the range of the field. In addition, our result could help commercial scientific database providers to learn more about the users’ needs, which would not only benefit both scientific communities and content providers, but also promote scholarly communication effectively. Originality/value: Compared with existing researches which mainly emphasized the model construction of scholarly communication, our study focused the knowledge relevance during the scholarly communication and influence factors that impacted on the performance of knowledge acceptance under the network environment, which could provide helpful guides for further studies.展开更多

However, soil management is only recognized from the point of view of agronomy and academia, covering problems in rural areas at the time of adopting agricultural alternatives. For this reason, peasant knowledge was characterized and related to scientific knowledge, in the valuation of land properties in the coffee (Coffea arabica L.) production system. The study was carried out in four villages in the municipality of Buesaco (Nari?o, Colombia), with humid pre-mountain forest conditions, an average temperature of 18?C, annual rainfall of 1400 mm, and an altitude of 1959 m. The study was carried out in the municipality of Buesaco (Nari?o, Colombia). Through field visits, priority was given to farms with coffee production systems under different types of shade. A semi-structured survey was applied to learn about the social, environmental, productive, ancestral, and cultural components, with the application of participatory methodologies allowed to learn about traditional management and practices in the soil component. The results allowed us to identify four types of production systems from coffee without shade to coffee in association with different multipurpose woody perennials and mosses. Diverse dynamics of crop and land management are presented. Several references were found to differentiate land types such as color, texture, production and fertility, being characteristics that are associated to classify soil quality and make management decisions and type of fertilization. Through the perception of the farmers, six land classes with different characteristics were identified, relating the characterization with what was obtained in the chemical analysis of lands. It can be concluded that the perception of coffee growers, dark shades in the land representing better quality than light shaded soils, both associated with characteristics such as quantity of organic matter, presence of weeds, growth and development of the crop, perceptions that coincide with the variables of scientific knowledge such as availability of nutrients, organic matter, pH and texture.展开更多

The keys to its success are increasingly related to a methodology of work more scientific than ever. The Systemic Approach has broadly showed its effectiveness in numerous disciplinary fields, both scientific and engineering ones: Biology, Economy, Social and Management Sciences, Quality Management, Information Systems… Helped by technological progress, this approach has especially excelled in the management of spatial information (e.g. GIS). It constitutes therefore an excellent solution to the problems of mining evaluation by the integration of genetic, mining and managerial data within an Information System, thus optimizing scientific and economic valuation of mineral resources.展开更多

Focusing on the theoretical origin and realistic influence of open access, this paper investigates the historical changes of scientific knowledge from the common good to profitability and discusses different interpretations held by knowledge communism and academic capitalism concerning the property rights and social functions of scientific information. It also examines the role of commercial capital in commercializing academic resources and the substance of that commercialization. As a knowledge-sharing mode, open access is inevitable and rational. However, this mode involves many social problems, and there is a need to provide appropriate policies and systems.展开更多

Science exerts such impact on today's society as to have completely remodelled it. The ways of appropriating knowledge, individual and collective, in terms of parcelling disciplines, the burgeoning knowledge produced by each of them, and the demultiplication of information sources, can no longer be thought of in terms of the model that prevailed up to now. To imagine another model, one must try to understand what has changed.展开更多

It can be concluded that the perception of coffee growers, dark shades in the land representing better quality than light shaded soils, both associated with characteristics such as quantity of organic matter, presence of weeds, growth and development of the crop, perceptions that coincide with the variables of scientific knowledge such as availability of nutrients, organic matter, pH and texture.
文摘Following the example of other industrial activities, mining evaluation is now exposed to socio-economical and technological constraints which are unstable in quick evolution. GIS). It constitutes therefore an excellent solution to the problems of mining evaluation by the integration of genetic, mining and managerial data within an Information System, thus optimizing scientific and economic valuation of mineral resources.

文摘This paper adopts the science and technology studies perspective to explore the theoretical origin of open access to knowledge against the historical background of the interaction between science and society, as well as to clarify the benefit allocation and adjustment relations of different actors in the implementation process of the open-access mode. However, this mode involves many social problems, and there is a need to provide appropriate policies and systems.
文摘The sciencescape has been completely transformed in just over 30 years. To imagine another model, one must try to understand what has changed.
