The study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence–Third Edition(WPPSI-III)scores in a sample of kindergarten and lower primary pupils from Khartoum S...The study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence–Third Edition(WPPSI-III)scores in a sample of kindergarten and lower primary pupils from Khartoum State,Sudan.It also aims to examine whether test’s factor structure in this sample replicated that of the original WPPSI-III.The study sample consisted of 384 kindergarten and primary school children in Khartoum State(females=50%mean age=4.14,SD=1.37),selected using stratified random sampling across its seven localities:Khartoum,Jebel Awliya,Khartoum Bahri,East Nile,Omdurman,Ombada,Karari.For concurrent validation,the children additionally completed the Goodenough Draw-a-Man Test,and the Colored Progressive Matrices.WPPSI-III scores demonstrated high internal consistency across the subtest items.Confirmatory factor analysis indicators for total,verbal,and performance intelligence were all excellent.The scale also showed weak to strong score stability ranging from 0.25(weak)to 0.88(strong)based on the Spearman-Brown equation,0.25 to 0.75 based on the Guttman split-half method.The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient scores ranged from 0.54 to 0.93.The WPPSI-III and Goodenough Draw-a-Man Test scores concurrent validity scores were poor(0.05)to modest(0.31),and while those with the Colored Progressive Matrices test were poor(r=0.04–0.18).Thesefindings provide evidence to suggest that the WPPSI-III is appropriate for research use with kindergarten and lower primary school students in Khartoum State,Sudan.展开更多

Clinicians use these tools to rapidly consult the evidence at the point of ca...Background: Clinical decision support tools provide suggestions to support healthcare providers and clinicians, as they attend to patients. Clinicians use these tools to rapidly consult the evidence at the point of care, a practice which has been found to reduce the time patients spend in hospitals, promote the quality of care and improve healthcare outcomes. Such tools include Medscape, VisualDx, Clinical Key, DynaMed, BMJ Best Practice and UpToDate. However, use of such tools has not yet been fully embraced in low-resource settings such as Uganda. Objective: This paper intends to collate data on the use and uptake of one such tool, UpToDate, which was provided at no cost to five medical schools in Uganda. Methods: Free access to UpToDate was granted through the IP addresses of five medical schools in Uganda in collaboration with Better Evidence at The Global Health Delivery Project at Harvard and Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Wolters Kluwer Health. Following the donation, medical librarians in the respective institutions conducted training sessions and created awareness of the tool. Usage data was aggregated, based on logins and content views, presented and analyzed using Excel tables and graphs. Results: The data shows similar trends in increased usage over the period of August 2022 to August 2023 across the five medical schools. The most common topics viewed, mode of access (using either the computer or the mobile app), total usage by institution, ratio of uses to eligible users by institution and ratio of uses to students by institution are shared. Conclusion: The study revealed that the tool was used by various user categories across the institutions with similar steady improved usage over the year. These results can inform the librarians as they encourage their respective institutions to continue using the tool to support uptake of point-of-care tools in clinical practice.展开更多

Chemistry science popularization for lower grades(Grades 1-2)in primary schools is an important part of science enlightenment education.However,in practice,it generally faces practical dilemmas such as insufficient co...Chemistry science popularization for lower grades(Grades 1-2)in primary schools is an important part of science enlightenment education.However,in practice,it generally faces practical dilemmas such as insufficient content adaptability,a single implementation method,and a lack of coordination mechanisms.Based on Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory and the STSE(Science,Technology,Society,Environment)educational concept,this study constructed a four-in-one strategy system of“content development-teaching implementation-collaborative linkage-guarantee support”through literature analysis,action research,and empirical comparison.An empirical study was conducted in two primary schools for one academic year.The results show that this strategy system can increase students’interest in participating in chemistry science popularization by 42 percentage points,the compliance rate of observation ability reaches 85%,and the collaborative participation of families,schools,and society rises to 85%.The core strategies formed in the study,including“age-appropriate content screening,interactive teaching implementation,three-dimensional collaborative promotion,and full-process guarantee support,”provide a replicable practical model for the standardized and efficient development of chemistry science popularization for lower grades in primary schools.They also offer empirical references for fulfilling the requirement of“strengthening the pertinence and effectiveness of science popularization”in the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology(revised in 2024).展开更多
Considering student obesity problem,this study investigated Chilean teachers’behavioral intentions to include two anti-obesity health messages into their classroom teaching activities,which belonged to the“Choose to...Considering student obesity problem,this study investigated Chilean teachers’behavioral intentions to include two anti-obesity health messages into their classroom teaching activities,which belonged to the“Choose to Live Healthy”campaign.Using the traditional model of the Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB;Ajzen,1985),three research questions were answered:(a)Which of the two messages from the“Choose to Live Healthy”Campaign are known by Chilean schools’teachers?(b)According to the level of knowledge of each message declared by teachers,how do the TPB model and its subcomponents explain teachers’intentions variability to include an anti-obesity message based on the campaign studied in their teaching activities?and(c)Based on the knowledge declared by teachers of the campaign messages,do the TPB model’s subcomponents explain the variability on teachers’intentions to include the anti-obesity content of the campaign message in their teaching activities by types of schools?A total of 245 Chilean teachers were surveyed across three different types of schools.Results from regression analysis confirmed that five of the TPB subcomponents made a fundamental contribution to examine the variability of the theoretical framework upon teachers’behavioral intentions,with the exemption of perceived behavioral control autonomy.This study confirmed the great relevance and effectiveness of the TPB model to contribute to the interpretation of behavioral intentions variability across different types of contexts.Implications for health campaigns are mentioned.展开更多

Universities serve as pivotal platforms for cultivating postdoctoral talent,particularly in pharmaceutical sciences.This study provided an empirical assessment of the key determinants influencing research productivity...Universities serve as pivotal platforms for cultivating postdoctoral talent,particularly in pharmaceutical sciences.This study provided an empirical assessment of the key determinants influencing research productivity among postdoctoral fellows in this field.We analyzed a cohort of postdoctoral researchers who entered the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Peking University between October 2016 and December 2024,gathering comprehensive data on their demographic characteristics and scholarly accomplishments throughout their fellowship.Indicators of postdoctoral success encompassed securing research funding,publishing scholarly articles,and filing patent applications.To identify the principal factors shaping these outcomes,we employed logistic regression analysis.The findings demonstrated that postdoctoral fellows enrolled in incentive programs exhibited markedly higher success rates in acquiring research grants,especially high-tier funding,as well as in publishing both general and high-impact research articles.Conversely,fellows engaged in interdisciplinary research showed significantly reduced success rates in obtaining both general and high-level grants.Additionally,extended fellowship durations were positively correlated with greater likelihoods of publishing high-impact papers and achieving patents.Notably,postdoctoral fellows specializing in Pharmaceutical Analysis had a significantly higher probability of securing prestigious research grants,while those focusing on Pharmaceutics demonstrated a superior capacity for research publication.Regarding intellectual property,fellows mentored by supervisors with overseas experience were substantially more likely to obtain patents,whereas those guided by tenure-track supervisors exhibited lower patent acquisition rates.In light of these insights,we proposed several recommendations for postdoctoral management bodies within pharmaceutical academic institutions.These included refining selection criteria for postdoctoral candidates,amplifying support through incentive mechanisms,enhancing interdisciplinary fellows’integration into pharmaceutical research paradigms,and optimizing postdoctoral training frameworks to nurture academic excellence and research innovation.展开更多

文摘Chemistry science popularization for lower grades(Grades 1-2)in primary schools is an important part of science enlightenment education.However,in practice,it generally faces practical dilemmas such as insufficient content adaptability,a single implementation method,and a lack of coordination mechanisms.Based on Piaget’s Cognitive Development Theory and the STSE(Science,Technology,Society,Environment)educational concept,this study constructed a four-in-one strategy system of“content development-teaching implementation-collaborative linkage-guarantee support”through literature analysis,action research,and empirical comparison.An empirical study was conducted in two primary schools for one academic year.The results show that this strategy system can increase students’interest in participating in chemistry science popularization by 42 percentage points,the compliance rate of observation ability reaches 85%,and the collaborative participation of families,schools,and society rises to 85%.The core strategies formed in the study,including“age-appropriate content screening,interactive teaching implementation,three-dimensional collaborative promotion,and full-process guarantee support,”provide a replicable practical model for the standardized and efficient development of chemistry science popularization for lower grades in primary schools.They also offer empirical references for fulfilling the requirement of“strengthening the pertinence and effectiveness of science popularization”in the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology(revised in 2024).
文摘Considering student obesity problem,this study investigated Chilean teachers’behavioral intentions to include two anti-obesity health messages into their classroom teaching activities,which belonged to the“Choose to Live Healthy”campaign.Using the traditional model of the Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB;Ajzen,1985),three research questions were answered:(a)Which of the two messages from the“Choose to Live Healthy”Campaign are known by Chilean schools’teachers?(b)According to the level of knowledge of each message declared by teachers,how do the TPB model and its subcomponents explain teachers’intentions variability to include an anti-obesity message based on the campaign studied in their teaching activities?and(c)Based on the knowledge declared by teachers of the campaign messages,do the TPB model’s subcomponents explain the variability on teachers’intentions to include the anti-obesity content of the campaign message in their teaching activities by types of schools?A total of 245 Chilean teachers were surveyed across three different types of schools.Results from regression analysis confirmed that five of the TPB subcomponents made a fundamental contribution to examine the variability of the theoretical framework upon teachers’behavioral intentions,with the exemption of perceived behavioral control autonomy.This study confirmed the great relevance and effectiveness of the TPB model to contribute to the interpretation of behavioral intentions variability across different types of contexts.Implications for health campaigns are mentioned.

文摘Human rights education in primary and secondary schools is the initial and crucial phase of human rights education.Based on the normative documents formulated by the United Nations for human rights education during this phase,this paper constructs the United Nations standards for human rights education in primary and secondary schools,which include four major aspects:educational content,educational methods,reference mechanisms,and human rights concepts.They correspond respectively to the core connotations,practical pathways,institutional protections,and spiritual pursuits of human rights education in primary and secondary schools.On the basis of critically reflecting on these standards,and in reference to the United Nations standards and in accordance with China’s actual conditions,this paper proposes the“Chinese Approach”for human rights education in primary and secondary schools:first,in terms of legislation,clear legal basis should be provided;second,in terms of administration,clear goals and action guidelines should be provided;third,in terms of resource guarantee,sufficient resource support should be provided;fourth,in terms of curriculum design,it should be suitable for Chinese primary and secondary school students;fifth,in terms of evaluation mechanism,a variety of evaluation mechanisms should be constructed.
文摘Universities serve as pivotal platforms for cultivating postdoctoral talent,particularly in pharmaceutical sciences.This study provided an empirical assessment of the key determinants influencing research productivity among postdoctoral fellows in this field.We analyzed a cohort of postdoctoral researchers who entered the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Peking University between October 2016 and December 2024,gathering comprehensive data on their demographic characteristics and scholarly accomplishments throughout their fellowship.Indicators of postdoctoral success encompassed securing research funding,publishing scholarly articles,and filing patent applications.To identify the principal factors shaping these outcomes,we employed logistic regression analysis.The findings demonstrated that postdoctoral fellows enrolled in incentive programs exhibited markedly higher success rates in acquiring research grants,especially high-tier funding,as well as in publishing both general and high-impact research articles.Conversely,fellows engaged in interdisciplinary research showed significantly reduced success rates in obtaining both general and high-level grants.Additionally,extended fellowship durations were positively correlated with greater likelihoods of publishing high-impact papers and achieving patents.Notably,postdoctoral fellows specializing in Pharmaceutical Analysis had a significantly higher probability of securing prestigious research grants,while those focusing on Pharmaceutics demonstrated a superior capacity for research publication.Regarding intellectual property,fellows mentored by supervisors with overseas experience were substantially more likely to obtain patents,whereas those guided by tenure-track supervisors exhibited lower patent acquisition rates.In light of these insights,we proposed several recommendations for postdoctoral management bodies within pharmaceutical academic institutions.These included refining selection criteria for postdoctoral candidates,amplifying support through incentive mechanisms,enhancing interdisciplinary fellows’integration into pharmaceutical research paradigms,and optimizing postdoctoral training frameworks to nurture academic excellence and research innovation.
文摘Bangladesh’s long and multifaceted history has led to a system of education that is viewed as complex and fragmented.To understand what makes this particular system work,one must first explore what different ruling powers and varying ideological frameworks have done to education in this area over the past millennium.The educational infrastructure has been left behind,populated by successive rulers with their dominant schools of thought and values.This article explores how the past contexts and various ideas,including different ideological perspectives,have given rise to what Bangladesh now has for an education system and how these persist in current definitions.

文摘Under the guidance of the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind,international exchanges in basic education have become a key vehicle for deepening mutual learning among civilizations.Schools with distinctive intercultural exchange programs provide important platforms for cultivating students’intercultural understanding and communication skills,while also promoting the internationalization of school education.Yet,existing research tends to highlight the general value of cultural exchange without offering a systematic analysis of how such initiatives are implemented at the school level.This study examines schools with distinctive features of intercultural communication,focusing on their educational objectives,curriculum design,and institutional support.The findings suggest that effective practices integrate cultural diversity into both classroom teaching and extracurricular activities,with institutional frameworks playing a crucial role in ensuring sustainability.This study enriches the theoretical discussion on intercultural education and provides practical guidance for schools seeking to strengthen their programs of cultural exchange.Empirical data show that the annual participation rate of students in international activities reaches 95.83%,with significant enhancement in global competence,providing a practical paradigm for conducting humanities exchanges in basic education in the new era,grounded in curriculum systems,bridged by practical activities,and aimed at cultural integration.

文摘With the continuous promotion of the construction of child friendly cities,the school commuting space is an important component of the construction of child friendly roads.Based on the background of child friendly cities,the commuting space of 11 primary and secondary schools in Bajiao Street is analyzed through literature analysis and field research methods.Firstly,the relevant literature on school commuting space is sorted out,and the characteristics of school commuting space are summarized,including transportation,landscape,culture,leisure,and security.Secondly,the characteristics of commuting space of primary and secondary schools in Bajiao Street are analyzed from three aspects:in front of the school gate,path space,and node space.This paper aims to provide reference and guidance for the future construction of children’s walking school commuting and promote the construction of a child friendly city.
文摘Geoscience education is crucial globally,yet its delivery in Malaysian schools remains inadequate despite increasing demand for geological services.This study examines perceptions of 157 newly enrolled students in geoscience,geology,and other science-based programs regarding the challenges in bridging the geoscience education gap from primary to pre-university levels in Malaysia.Findings indicate a moderately significant improvement in students'geoscience knowledge,with moderate perspectives on geoscience education before and after entering university.
