The turbulent flow field and mixing time were calculated using LES with Sma-gorinsky-Lilly subgrid scale model. The impeller rotation was modeled using the sliding mesh technique. Better agree-ment of power demand and mixing time was obtained between the experimental and the LES prediction than that by the traditional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) approach. The curve of tracer response predicted by LES was in good agreement with the experimental. The results show that LES is a reliable tool to investigate the unsteady and quasi-periodic behavior of the turbulent flow in stirred tanks.展开更多

As one of the key terrain parameters, it is widely used in the modeling of hydrology, soil erosion and ecological environment. However, SCA value changes significantly at different DEM resolutions, which inevitably affect terrain analysis results. SCA can be described as the ratio of Catchment Area (CA) and DEM grid length. In this paper, the scale effect of CA is firstly investigated. With Jiuyuangou Gully, a watershed about 70 km2 in northern Shaanxi Province of China, as the test area, it is found that the impacts of DEM scale on CA are different in spatial distribution. CA value in upslope location becomes bigger with the decrease of the DEM resolution. When the location is close to downstream areas the impact of DEM scale on CA is gradually weakening. The scale effect of CA can be concluded as a mathematic trend of exponential decline. Then, a downscaling model of SCA is put forward by introducing the scale factor and the location factor. The scaling model can realize the conversion of SCA value from a coarse DEM resolution to a finer one at pixel level. Experiment results show that the downscaled SCA was well revised, and consistent with SCA at the target resolution with respect to the statistical indexes, histogram and spatial distribution. With the advantages of no empirical parameters, the scaling model could be considered as a simple and objective model for SCA scaling in a rugged drainage area.展开更多

The Large Eddy Simulation(LES) method with the Transported Probability Density Function(TPDF) turbulence combustion model is promising in engineering applications. In flame region, the impact of chemical reaction should be considered in TPDF molecular mixing model. Based on pioneer research, three new TPDF turbulence-chemistry dual time scale molecular mixing models were proposed tentatively by adding the chemistry time scale in molecular mixing model for nonpremixed flame. The Aero-Engine Combustor Simulation Code(AECSC) which is based on LES-TPDF method was combined with the three new models. Then the Sandia laboratory's methane-air jet flames: Flame D and Flame E were simulated. Transient simulation results show that all the three new models can predict the instantaneous combustion flow pattern of the jet flames. Furthermore, the average scalar statistical results were compared with the experimental data. The simulation result of the new TPDF arithmetic mean modification model is the closest to the experimental data:the average error in Flame D is 7.6% and 6.6% in Flame E. The extinction and re-ignition phenomena of the jet flames especially Flame E were captured. The turbulence time scale and the chemistry time scale are in different order in the whole flow field. The dual time scale TPDF combustion model has ability to deal with both the turbulence effect and the chemistry reaction effect, as well as their interaction more accurately for nonpremixed flames.展开更多

The probability of bridge pier being subjected to more vehicular impact is also growing. This study performed scale model tests and analyzed a collision mechanism considering the non-navigable span of a sea-crossing bridge in East China Sea as an engineering background. Comparing the test results with the finite element calculations, the dynamic response of the sample bridge and local damages of the fragile components under impact force were evaluated. Subsequently, the time-frequency characteristics of the vibration signal were analyzed based on wavelet packet analysis, and the multi-resolution characteristics as well as energy distribution of the vibration signal were discussed. It was observed that the impact energy transferred from ship to pier during the period of collision distributed different frequency bands with varying characteristics. The main frequency band(0–62.5 Hz) contains more than 75% of the vibration energy. The analysis can provide a basis for structural damage identification after the collision and anti-collision design of bridges.展开更多

Physical simulation results showed that at the initial steam breakthrough, preferential flow channels were formed in narrow sand packs and most residual oil left in these channels was immobile. This shortened the steam breakthrough time of follow-up steam flooding and decreased the increment of oil recovery efficiency. Steam breakthrough occurred easily for a smaller producer-injector spacing, and a bigger difference in physical properties between fluids and rock. Steam breakthrough is more likely to occur at a larger formation permeability (k), greater steam displacement velocity (u) and smaller producer-injector spacing (L). Steam breakthrough time is a function of the parameter group (uk/L), i.e. tb=3.2151 (uk/L)^-0.5142. A non piston-like displacement model was built based on steam breakthrough observation for a steam stimulated well in the Jinglou Oilfield, Henan Oilfield Company. The steam volume swept in different directions could be obtained from inter-well permeability capacity and breakthrough angle, and the steam swept pore volume (SSPV) was also determined. Numerical simulation showed that steam sweep efficiency reached its peak value when a slug of profile control agent (slug size 10%-15% SSPV) was set at one half of the inter-well spacing. Field test with 12.5% SSPV of profile control agents in the Jinglou Oilfield achieved success in sealing breakthrough channels and good production performance of adjacent producers.展开更多

The results show that when graded gravels were selected as the backfill materials, the effect of setting approach slab to reduce the differential settlement is more prominent. When lime soils were selected as the backfill material, approach slab can moderate the longitudinal settlement slope. When using different backfill materials, the ultimate settlement of the positive trapezoidal backfill geometries is less than that of the inverted trapezoid, and the backfill geometries have little effect on the settlement slope.展开更多

A multi-tower RCC-SF tall building was thus studied because of its structural complexity and irregularity. First, a 1/15 scaled model structure was designed and tested on the shake table under minor, moderate, and major earthquake levels. Then, the dynamic responses of the model structure were interpreted to those of the prototype structure according to the similitude theory. Experimental results demonstrate that, despite the complexity of the structure, the lateral deformation bends as the "bending type" and the RC core walls contribute more than the steel frames to resist seismic loads. The maximum inter-story drift of the complex building under minor earthquakes is slightly beyond the elastic limitation specified in the Chinese code, and meets code requirements under major earthquakes. From the test results some suggestions are provided that could contribute favorable effect on the seismic behavior and the displacement of the building.展开更多

文摘Recent years have witnessed increasingly frequent extreme precipitation events, especially in desert steppes in the semi-arid and arid transition zone.Focusing on a desert steppe in western-central Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region,China, this study aimed to determine the principle time-varying pattern of extreme precipitation and its dominant climate forcings during the period 1988-2017.Based on the generalized additive models for location, scale, and shape(GAMLSS)modeling framework,we developed the best time-dependent models for the extreme precipitation series at nine stations,as well as the optimized non-stationary models with large-scale climate indices(including the North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO),Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation(AMO),Southern Oscillation(SO),Pacific Decadal Oscillation(PDO),Arctic Oscillation(AO),and North Pacific Oscillation(NPO))as covariates. The results indicated that extreme precipitation remained stationary at more than half of the stations(Hailisu,Wuyuan,Dengkou,Hanggin Rear Banner,Urad Front Banner, and Yikewusu),while linear and non-linear time-varying patterns were quantitatively identified at the other stations(Urad Middle Banner,Linhe, and Wuhai). These non-stationary behaviors of extreme precipitation were mainly reflected in the mean value of extreme precipitation. The optimized non-stationary models performed best, indicating the significant influences of large-scale climate indices on extreme precipitation. In particular, the NAO,NPO,SO,and AMO remained as covariates and significantly influenced the variations in the extreme precipitation regime. Our findings have important reference significance for gaining an in-depth understanding of the driving mechanism of the non-stationary behavior of extreme precipitation and enable advanced predictions of rainstorm risks.

文摘High-energy cosmic rays bombard target atoms in near-surface minerals, initiating nuclear reactions that produce in situ cosmogenic nuclides such as ^(10)Be and ^(26)Al.Advances in cosmogenic nuclide techniques have been enabled by well-understood production mechanisms, highly sensitive detection at ultra-trace levels, and robust quantitative that describe nuclide production, accumulation, transport, and decay in the near-surface environment. These techniques have advanced Earth science by providing tools for surface exposure dating, sediment burial dating, and quantifying denudation rates of watersheds and bedrocks. This article presents a comprehensive review of the research history of terrestrial in situ cosmogenic nuclide production rates, the theoretical frameworks and computational methodologies used to construct production rate scaling models, with particular attention to key controlling factors, and evaluates the differences among various production rate scaling models and their underlying causes. To improve the accuracy and precision of future production rate scaling models,we recommend the following four research priorities:(1) Enhance quantitative comparison and data assimilation between measured and simulated cosmic-ray spectra to refine particle-transport simulation algorithms and reduce uncertainties in secondary cosmic-ray energy spectra.(2) Reconstruct temporal variations in geomagnetic field intensity and solar activity since the Pleistocene to provide more robust constraints on time-dependent cosmic-ray energy spectra.(3) Systematically measure and theoretically evaluate proton-and neutron-induced cross sections on main target atoms(O,Si,Al,Fe,Mg,etc.) across energy ranges relevant to TCN production and compile the results into a comprehensive evaluated database.(4) Strengthen geological calibrations of production rates across multi-nuclide( ^(3) He,^(10)Be,^(14)C,^(21)Ne,^(26)Al,^(36)Cl,etc.) and multi-mineral(quartz,calcite,etc.) systems to develop a globally applicable, internally consistent production rate model.
文摘Large eddy simulations (LES) of mixing process in a stirred tank of 0.476m diameter with a 3-narrow blade hydrofoil CBY impeller were reported. The results show that LES is a reliable tool to investigate the unsteady and quasi-periodic behavior of the turbulent flow in stirred tanks.

文摘Specific Catchment Area (SCA) is defined as the upstream catchment area of a unit contour. With the advantages of no empirical parameters, the scaling model could be considered as a simple and objective model for SCA scaling in a rugged drainage area.

文摘The numerical simulation of modern aero-engine combustion chamber needs accurate description of the interaction between turbulence and chemical reaction mechanism. The dual time scale TPDF combustion model has ability to deal with both the turbulence effect and the chemistry reaction effect, as well as their interaction more accurately for nonpremixed flames.

文摘Over the past decades, there has been continual construction of sea-crossing bridges as the technology of transportation improves. The analysis can provide a basis for structural damage identification after the collision and anti-collision design of bridges.

文摘We present a series of experimental tests on chemical grouting into a fracture with flowing and static water, using a transparent fracture grouting experimental device.Variations of seepage pressure and grout propagation were compared in our investigation. The results show that flowing water results in drops of seepage pressure, development of penetration radii in the upstream side and drops of propagation area during the same period, compared with grouting in static water. The propagation area in static water is always round before grouts reach the joint boundaries. However, the propagation shape changes from round to an elliptic shape for grouting into a fracture with flowing water.A theoretical model for the grout penetration radius in a fracture considering flowing velocity was developed and validated by our experimental results. These results are helpful in improving understanding of fracture grouting mechanism and in guiding engineering practices.

文摘Zero liquid discharge(ZLD)treatment and reuse equipment of high salinity wastewater in coal-chemical industry often occur in various types of blockage problems because of high salt content, affecting the long-term stability of the device. In this study, the effects of solution temperature, steel, reaction time and wall roughness on fouling were investigated. The changes in the contents of fouling and fouling substances were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed by XRD and EDS respectively, and the formation of scale was observed by SEM.The results show that with temperature increasing,Q235 steel is the most difficult to scale.Scaling rate of all salt scales reaches a maximum after 12 h,and the fouling rate decreases significantly from 12 to 48 h.It gradually stabilizes at 48 to 96 h.With the roughness increasing, the thickness of fouling layer increases, and a linear relationship is presented for 1 to 10 h.By comparing actual and simulated wastewater scaling rates, the relationship between actual and simulated wastewater scaling rates is y=ax-0.494.The composition of the scale was analyzed, calcium carbonate is the main product and increases with fouling time.Based on the above-mentioned results combining literatures, the hybrid prediction model with calcium carbonate as the main product is put forward. It is discussed microscopically that calcium carbonate is converted from aragonite and vaterite in a thermodynamically metastable state to calcite in a thermodynamically stable state.
文摘Scaled physical model tests for steam breakthrough were conducted based on the analysis of mechanisms and influence factors of steam breakthrough. Field test with 12.5% SSPV of profile control agents in the Jinglou Oilfield achieved success in sealing breakthrough channels and good production performance of adjacent producers.

文摘A new higher-order continuum model is proposed by considering the coupling and lane changing effects of the vehicles on two adjacent lanes. A stability analysis of the proposed model provides the conditions that ensure its linear stability. Issues related to lane changing, shock waves and rarefaction waves, local clustering and phase transition are also investigated with numerical experiments. The simulation results show that the proposed model is capable of providing explanations to some particular traffic phenomena commonly observable in real traffic flows.

文摘In order to analyze the effects of backfill materials, geometries and slab setting on the settlement of bridge approach embankment, scale model was built based on the structural characteristics of bridge approach embankment, and scale model tests were carried out under different conditions. The results show that when graded gravels were selected as the backfill materials, the effect of setting approach slab to reduce the differential settlement is more prominent. When lime soils were selected as the backfill material, approach slab can moderate the longitudinal settlement slope. When using different backfill materials, the ultimate settlement of the positive trapezoidal backfill geometries is less than that of the inverted trapezoid, and the backfill geometries have little effect on the settlement slope.

文摘Many single-tower reinforced concrete core wall-steel frame (RCC-SF) buildings have been built in China, but there are no buildings of different-height multi-tower hybrid system. From the test results some suggestions are provided that could contribute favorable effect on the seismic behavior and the displacement of the building.
