Sb_(2)Se_(3) as saturable absorber for Q-switching generation in an erbium-doped fiber laser

Based on the nonlinear saturable absorption properties(NSAPs)of a two-dimensional(2D)material of antimony selenide(Sb_(2)Se_(3)),a Q-switched erbium-doped fiber(EDF)laser is systematically demonstrated.The Sb_(2)Se_(3)nano sheets are prepared by liquid-phase exfoliation(LPE)method.After the sandwich-structured Sb_(2)Se_(3)saturable absorber(SA)is fabricated,the NSAPs are characterized and the modulation depth,the saturation intensity and the unsaturated loss are determined to be 25.2%,2.02 MW/cm^(2),and 3.29%,respectively.When the as-prepared Sb_(2)Se_(3)-SA is integrated into the ring cavity,the laser operates at a stable Q-switching regime in the pump power range of 100—400 mW.The laser oscillates at the central wavelength of 1558.48 nm with a 3 dB bandwidth of 2.32 nm.Take the advantages of the Sb_(2)Se_(3)-SA,the pulse duration can be compressed from 40.49 kHz to 128.12 kHz.At the pump power of 400 mW,the Q-switching laser gives the narrowest pulse duration the highest average output power,the largest pulse energy,and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)of 0.93μs,2.16 mW,16.89 nJ,and 53 dB,respectively.Our new attempt on Sb_(2)Se_(3)-based Q-switched EDF laser,combining the existing mode-locking achievements,proves that Sb_(2)Se_(3)is a powerful candidate for pulse compression due to the characteristics of high modulation depth and high stability. 展开更多

This work presents the saturable absorption(SA) properties of CsPbBr_3 perovskite quantum dots(QDs). The perovskite QDs show excellent SA performance with a nonlinear absorption coefficient of-35 × 10^(-2) cm∕GW and a figure of merit of 3.7 × 10^(-14) esu cm. Further, their use as saturable absorbers in a passively Q-switched visible solid-state laser for the generation of soliton pulses is demonstrated. The structural,morphological,optical,and nonlinear optical properties of a lead sulfde(PbS) thin film grown by chemical bath deposition(CBD) are investigated by X-ray difraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis),and open aperture Z-scan experiments.The band gap energy of the PbS nanocrystalline film is 1.82 eV,higher than that of bulk PbS at 300 K.The nonlinear absorption properties of the film are investigated using the open aperture Z-scan technique at 1064 nm and pulse durations of 4 ns and 65 ps.Intensity-dependent switching of the film from nonlinear absorption to saturable absorption is observed.The nonlinear absorption coefficient increases monotonically with increasing pulse duration from 65 ps to 4 ns. 展开更多

The fiber-based saturable absorber(SA)that enables mode-locking within a ring cavity serves as the core component of the ultrafast all-fiber lasers.However,the integration of SAs onto fibers with high compactness suffers from imbalanced saturable absorption properties and unstable mode-locking performance.Here,we present a robust mode-locking SA by integrating a nanocavity composed of a two-dimensional graphene heterostructure on the fiber end facet.We demonstrate a significant reduction in the saturation intensity(~65%)and improved soliton dynamic processes through precise modulation of the optical field within the heterostructure.The designed heterostructure facilitates the formation of a stable single-soliton state for robust mode-locking.A high tolerance to intracavity polarization variations is achieved in the heterostructure-SA(~85%compared to 20%for bare graphene).Our designed heterostructure-SA represents an important advancement in the development of ultracompact mode-locked all-fiber lasers,offering enhanced integrability and stability. 展开更多
