We studied the organic acid quantity and composition of three commonly occurring pioneer plant species, the legumes Lotus corniculatus L. and Trifolium arvense L. and the grass Calamagrostis epigeios(L.) Roth, to determine if plant growth and exudation differed with(non-sterilized soil) and without(sterilized soil) an indigenous soil microbial community. We investigated whether organic acids were found in the rhizosphere and surrounding soil and whether this influenced nutrient mobilization. This study consists of linked field investigations and a greenhouse experiment. Plants were grown in the greenhouse in either sterilized or non-sterilized sandy soil from a reclamation site in the Lusatian mining landscape(Welzow Su¨d, East Germany). After seven months, the plant biomass, root morphology, organic acids, and water-soluble nutrients and root colonization with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF) and dark septate endophytes(DSE) were analyzed. Roots of all three plants in the field and greenhouse experiments were highly colonized with AMF. Calamagrostis epigeios and T. arvense had a significantly higher colonization frequency with DSE than L. corniculatus. The quantity and composition of organic acids strongly differed among plant species, with the highest number of organic acids found for L. corniculatus and lowest for C. epigeios. The quantity of organic acids was greatly reduced in all plants under sterilized soil conditions. However, the composition of organic acids and plant growth in sterilized soil were reduced for both legumes, but not for C. epigeios, which had a higher biomass under sterilized conditions. Changes in nutrient concentrations in the field rhizosphere soil relative to those in the control were measurable after seven months. While the spectrum of organic acids and the growth of legumes seemed to be dependent on a highly diverse soil microbial community and a symbiotic partner, the grass C. epigeios appeared capable of mobilizing enough nutrients without an indigenous microbial community, and might be more competitive on sites where soil microbial diversity and activity are low.展开更多

Here, we present two cases of maxillary first molars, each with only two root canals, which have been rarely reported. We also perform a literature review of maxillary first molar anatomy.CASE SUMMARY The two patients were referred to the hospital after 1) finding a cavity in their tooth with a color change and, 2) a toothache during mastication, respectively. Both of these cases were diagnosed as apical periodontitis by X-ray imaging and cone beam computed tomography(CBCT). Non-surgical endodontic therapy was performed with the assistance of a dental operating microscope(DOM). CBCT showed rare but accurate images of both patients, each with two root canals and two roots in their maxillary first molars. Both roots were located in the buccal in the palatal direction, and each root had only one clear root canal. In addition, each maxillary first molar in both patients was symmetrical to that on the opposing side with only two separate root canals. Non-surgical endodontic therapy was performed with the assistance of a DOM. Finally, the teeth were restored using composite resin and the patients were satisfied with the results.CONCLUSION Making full use of CBCT and DOM would contribute to helping dentists make correct diagnoses and successfully treat teeth with rare root canal morphologies.展开更多

In vitro probiotic effect of P. heterophylla fibrous roots extract on feed probiotics Bacillus subtilis BD-K010 was studied, and the feasibility of solid fermentation of P. heterophylla fibrous roots was preliminarily evaluated. For in vitro probiotic effect, the increased concentration of P. heterophylla fibrous roots extract dependently increased the total biomass of B. subtilis BD-K010;1.0% P. heterophylla fibrous roots extract received the best effect, and the final p H of 1.0% experimental group was closer to neutral. Meantime, B. subtilis BD-K010 with optimum concentration of P. heterophylla fibrous roots showed significantly higher in vitro antibacterial effect than the control group(P<0.01),and the antibacterial effects on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were improved by 51.99% and 63.16%, but it was ineffective to Salmonella. For solid fermentation, the profile of substrate complex and appendage flocculent structure on substrate surface at the end of fermenta-tion in experimental groups added with B. subtilis BD-K010 and cellulase plus BD-K010 were more complex;the live bacteria number, polysaccharide content and saponin content at fermentation end-point in two experimental groups were extremely higher than those in the control group(P<0.01).P. heterophylla fibrous roots extract had good in vitro probiotic effect on B. subtilis BD-K010 and promoted its antibacterial effect, and it is feasible to use probiotics for solid fermentation of P. heterophylla fibrous roots and to improve effective components. It is of great significance to further de-velop and utilize P. heterophylla fibrous roots resources in modern animal husbandry.展开更多

However, if an entire contralateral C7 nerve is used to repair two nerves, both recipient nerves show good recovery. These findings seem contradictory, as the above two methods use the same donor nerve, only the cutting method of the contralateral C7 nerve is different. To verify whether this can actually result in different repair effects, we divided rats with right total brachial plexus injury into three groups. In the entire root group, the entire contralateral C7 root was transected and transferred to the median nerve of the affected limb. In the posterior division group, only the posterior division of the contralateral C7 root was transected and transferred to the median nerve. In the entire root + posterior division group, the entire contralateral C7 root was transected but only the posterior division was transferred to the median nerve. After neurectomy, the median nerve was repaired on the affected side in the three groups. At 8, 12, and 16 weeks postoperatively, electrophysiological examination showed that maximum amplitude, latency, muscle tetanic contraction force, and muscle fiber cross-sectional area of the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle were significantly better in the entire root and entire root + posterior division groups than in the posterior division group. No significant difference was found between the entire root and entire root + posterior division groups. Counts of myelinated axons in the median nerve were greater in the entire root group than in the entire root + posterior division group, which were greater than the posterior division group. We conclude that for the same recipient nerve, harvesting of the entire contralateral C7 root achieved significantly better recovery than partial harvesting, even if only part of the entire root was used for transfer. This result indicates that the entire root should be used as a donor when transferring contralateral C7 nerve.展开更多

Generally, the amount of soil fixation presented by roots mainly depends on root density and tensile strength. In the present study, we conducted the research in order to further understand the biotechnical properties of Haloxylon persicum and also to quantify its role in increasing soil cohesion in arid lands of Iran. Ten H. persicum shrubs were randomly selected for root distribution and strength investigations, in which five samples were set on flat terrain and other five samples on a moderate slope terrain. The profile trench method was used to assess the root area ratio(RAR) as the index of root density and distribution. Two profiles were dug around each sample, up and downslope for sloped treatment and north and south sides for flat treatment. The results showed that RAR increased with increasing soil depth and significantly decreased in 40–50 cm layers of downhill(0.320%) and 50–60 cm for uphill(0.210%). The minimum values for the northward and southward profiles were 0.003% and 0.003%, respectively, while the maximum values were 0.260% and 0.040%, respectively. The relationship between the diameter of root samples and root tensile strength followed a negative power function, but tensile force increased with increasing root diameter following a positive power function. The pattern of increased cohesion changes in soil profile was relatively similar to RAR curves. The maximum increased cohesion due to the presence of roots in uphill and downhill sides were 0.470 and 1.400 kPa, respectively. In the flat treatment, the maximum increased cohesions were 0.570 and 0.610 kPa in northward and southward profiles, respectively. The analysis of variance showed that wind and slope induced stresses did not have any significant effect on the amount of increased cohesion of H. persicum. The findings served to develop knowledge about biotechnical properties of H. persicum root system that can assist in assessing the efficiency of afforestation and restoration measures for erosion control in arid lands.展开更多

文摘Sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter 1 (NKCC1) and potassium-chloride cotransporter 2 (KCC2) are associated with the transmission of peripheral pain.We investigated whether the increase of NKCC1 and KCC2 is associated with peripheral pain transmission in dorsal root ganglion neurons. To this aim, rats with persistent hyperalgesia were randomly divided into four groups.Rats in the control group received no treatment, and the rat sciatic nerve was only exposed in the sham group.Rats in the chronic constriction injury group were established into chronic constriction injury models by ligating sciatic nerve and rats were given bumetanide,an inhibitor of NKCC1,based on chronic constriction injury modeling in the chronic constriction injury + bumetanide group. In the experiment measuring thermal withdrawal latency, bumetanide (15 mg/kg) was intravenously administered. In the patch clamp experiment, bumetanide (10 μg/μL) and acutely isolated dorsal root ganglion neurons (on day 14) were incubated for 1 hour,or bumetanide (5 μg/μL) was intrathecally injected. The Hargreaves test was conducted to detect changes in thermal hyperalgesia in rats.We found that the thermal withdrawal latency of rats was significantly decreased on days 7,14,and 21 after model establishment. After intravenous injection of bumetanide, the reduction in thermal retraction latency caused by model establishment was significantly inhibited.Immunohistochemistry and western blot assay results revealed that the immune response and protein expression of NKCC1 in dorsal root ganglion neurons of the chronic constriction injury group increased significantly on days 7,14,and 21 after model establishment. No immune response or protein expression of KCC2 was observed in dorsal root ganglion neurons before and after model establishment. The Cl^– (chloride ion) fluorescent probe technique was used to evaluate the change of Cl^– concentration in dorsal root ganglion neurons of chronic constriction injury model rats.We found that the relative optical density of N-(ethoxycarbonylmethyl)-6-methoxyquinolinium bromide (a Cl^– fluorescent probe whose fluorescence Cenintensity decreases as Cl– concentration increases) in the dorsal root ganglion neurons of the chronic constriction injury group was significantly decreased on days 7 and 14 after model establishment. The whole-cell patch clamp technique revealed that the resting potential and action potential frequency of dorsal root ganglion neurons increased, and the threshold and rheobase of action potentials decreased in the chronic constriction injury group on day 14 after model establishment. After bumetanide administration, the above indicators were significantly suppressed. These results confirm that CCI can induce abnormal overexpression of NKCC1,thereby increasing the Cl^– concentration in dorsal root ganglion neurons;this then enhances the excitability of dorsal root ganglion neurons and ultimately promotes hyperalgesia and allodynia. In addition, bumetanide can achieve analgesic effects. All experiments were approved by the Institutional Ethics Review Board at the First Affiliated Hospital,College of Medicine,Shihezi University,China on February 22,2017 (approval No.A2017-169-01).

文摘Increasing evidence suggests that fine roots are particularly sensitive to environmental changes, making them essential in responding and adapting forest ecosystems to climate change. However,we still lack a fundamental understanding of the underlying mechanisms that control fine root plasticity. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of soil moisture changes on fine root dynamics and morphology of European beech(Fagus sylvatica L.).We conducted a 30-month study of fine root traits,i.e.,fine root biomass(FRB),productivity, mortality, turnover, specific root length(SRL),specific root area(SRA),and root tip frequency(RTF),along a soil moisture gradient from dry, intermediate, and wet conditions in a near-natural mature beech forest.Sequential root coring with accompanying soil measurements was carried out at three study sites reflecting the gradient in soil water availability. For most fine root traits,we found significant differences between the upper 10 cm and lower soil depths.FRB showed significant differences between study sites, with the lowest FRB at the dry site. However, productivity, turnover,SRL,SRA,and RTF showed no significant differences between sites, but a high variability between seasons, suggesting an adaptation to short-term fluctuations but not to long-term gradients in soil water content(SWC).Linear mixed models revealed that decreasing SWC led to a significant increase in SRL,SRA,and RTF(standardized coefficients:-1.0±0.46,-1.1±0.46,and-1.1±0.43,respectively).Our observations indicate an adaptation strategy of beech to low availability of soil water and drought by forming thin absorptive roots and by maintaining a high seasonal plasticity to tolerate fluctuations in soil moisture.By highlighting the belowground morphological adaptations of mature forests to low soil water availability, our results provide novel insights into the structure and dynamics of forest ecosystem adaptations to climate change.
文摘A cryptosystem based on computation of square roots of complex integers modulo composite n is described in this paper. This paper provides an algorithm extracting a square root of Gaussian integer. Various properties of square roots and a method for finding Gaussian generators are demonstrated. The generators can be instrumental in constructing other cryptosystems. It is shown how to significantly reduce average complexity of decryption per each block of ciphertext.

文摘Nutrient-poor, sandy soils form the prevailing substrate at post-mining sites of the Lusatian region(Brandenburg, Germany) and present a challenge for vegetation development. While the spectrum of organic acids and the growth of legumes seemed to be dependent on a highly diverse soil microbial community and a symbiotic partner, the grass C. epigeios appeared capable of mobilizing enough nutrients without an indigenous microbial community, and might be more competitive on sites where soil microbial diversity and activity are low.

文摘Plant root systems,a crucial component of biogeotechnics, have been recognized as a promising and sustainable strategy to address novel challenges in geotechnical engineering,i.e.,climate change(Ng et al.,2022).Root-soil composite and root-reinforced slopes have re-ceived widespread attention in recent decades, due to the ability of root to regulate soil properties through mechanical reinforcement and hy-draulic transpiration(Li&Duan,2023;Ni et al.,2024).Fig.1 provides a co-occurrence network plot of plant root-based soil reinforcement strategies published over the last decade, where three clusters are identified with different colors. On the left of the network map, clusters in red and blue are primarily driven by geotechnical investigations of vegetated slopes(i.e.,plant root reinforced slopes)and root-soil com-posite/root-permeated soils,as denoted by the terms like"model","test","slope","strength"and"vegetation",while the green cluster on the right side demonstrates botany-related domains, for instance,"plant growth",Indeed, the reinforcement of vegetated soil strength is com-plex and varies significantly with an abundance of factors, both me-chanically and hydraulically.Particularly, the impact of root mor-phology and architecture cannot be negligible, including keywords"root area ratio"root distribution""root morphology"root diame-ter"root density"in Fig.1 with the root size and root depth ranking foremost.
文摘BACKGROUND The complex anatomy of the maxillary first molars has always been a major challenge for complete root canal treatment in endodontic therapy. Finally, the teeth were restored using composite resin and the patients were satisfied with the results.CONCLUSION Making full use of CBCT and DOM would contribute to helping dentists make correct diagnoses and successfully treat teeth with rare root canal morphologies.
文摘Instrument separation is a critical complication during root canal therapy, impacting treatment success and long-term tooth preservation. The etiology of instrument separation is multifactorial, involving the intricate anatomy of the root canal system,instrument-related factors, and instrumentation techniques.Instrument separation can hinder thorough cleaning, shaping, and obturation of the root canal, posing challenges to successful treatment outcomes.Although retrieval of separated instrument is often feasible,it carries risks including perforation, excessive removal of tooth structure and root fractures.Effective management of separated instruments requires a comprehensive understanding of the contributing factors, meticulous preoperative assessment, and precise evaluation of the retrieval difficulty. The application of appropriate retrieval techniques is essential to minimize complications and optimize clinical outcomes. The current manuscript provides a framework for understanding the causes, risk factors, and clinical management principles of instrument separation.By integrating effective strategies, endodontists can enhance decision-making,improve endodontic treatment success and ensure the preservation of natural dentition.
文摘Overview of root system architecture. The plant root system is a highly dynamic and multifunctional organ system composed of primary roots, lateral roots, adventitious roots, and root hairs.Based on topological morphology, root systems can be classified as taproot systems or fibrous root systems.Root system architecture(RSA)refers to the spatial distribution and extension patterns of roots within soil, encompassing characteristics such as root length, branching angle, density, and spatial arrangement.RSA not only determines the plant’s capacity to acquire water and nutrients but also influences other root functions, playing a decisive role in overall plant health.
文摘Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of neurogrowth factor in the treatment of gingival pain and swelling in patients with dental pulp necrosis after root canal therapy and the effect on the serum inflammatory cytokines. Methods: A total of 156 patients with gingival pain and swelling after root canal therapy due to dental pulp necrosis were included in the study and randomized into the control group (n=78) and teh treatment group (n=78). The patients in the control group were given metronidazole tablets. On the above basis, the patients in the treatment group were given local injection of neurogrowth factors. 10-day treatment was regarded as one course, and the patients were continuously treated for 2 courses. The improvement of clinical symptoms before and after treatment in the two groups was evaluated. Gingival sulcus index and serum inflammatory cytokines before and after treatment in the two groups were detected and compared. Results: When compared with before treatment, the periodontal soft tissue swelling, tooth mobility, and periapical pain scores after treatment in the two groups were significantly reduced, and those in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group. When compared with before treatment, the gingival sulcus bleeding index 1 and 2 courses after treatment in the two groups was significantly reduced, and that 2 courses after treatment was significantly lower than that after 1 course treatment. The gingival sulcus bleeding index 1 and 2 courses after treatment in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group. When compared with before treatment, the serum IL-8 and IL-6 levels after treatment in the two groups, and TNF-α level after treatment in the treatment group were significantly reduced, and the above indicators in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group. Conclusions: The neurogrowth factors in the treatment of gingival pain and swelling in patients with dental pulp necrosis after root canal therapy can effectively improve the clinical symptoms, and inhibit the inflammatory reaction, with a significant efficacy.

文摘Estrogen affects the generation and transmission of neuropathic pain, but the specific regulatory mechanism is still unclear.Activation of the N-methyl-D-aspartate acid receptor 1(NMDAR1) plays an important role in the production and maintenance of hyperalgesia and allodynia. The present study was conducted to determine whether a relationship exists between estrogen and NMDAR1 in peripheral nerve pain.A chronic sciatic nerve constriction injury model of chronic neuropathic pain was established in rats. These rats were then subcutaneously injected with 17β-estradiol,the NMDAR1 antagonist D(-)-2-amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid(AP-5),or both once daily for 15 days.Compared with injured drug na?ve rats, rats with chronic sciatic nerve injury that were administered estradiol showed a lower paw withdrawal mechanical threshold and a shorter paw withdrawal thermal latency, indicating increased sensitivity to mechanical and thermal pain.Estrogen administration was also associated with increased expression of NMDAR1 immunoreactivity(as assessed by immunohistochemistry) and protein(as determined by western blot assay) in spinal dorsal root ganglia. This 17β-estradiol-induced increase in NMDAR1 expression was blocked by co-administration with AP-5,whereas AP-5 alone did not affect NMDAR1 expression. These results suggest that 17β-estradiol administration significantly reduced mechanical and thermal pain thresholds in rats with chronic constriction of the sciatic nerve, and that the mechanism for this increased sensitivity may be related to the upregulation of NMDAR1 expression in dorsal root ganglia.
文摘BACKGROUND The root of mesentery dissection is one of the critical maneuvers, especially in borderline resectable pancreatic head cancer.Intra-abdominal chyle leak(CL)including chylous ascites may ensue in up to 10%of patients after pancreatic resections.Globally recognized superior mesenteric artery(SMA)first approaches are invariably performed. The mesenteric dissection through the inferior infracolic approach has been discussed in this study emphasizing its post-operative impact on CL which is the cornerstone of this study.AIM To assess incidence, risk factors, clinical impact of CL following root of mesentery dissection, and the different treatment modalities.METHODS This is a retrospective study incorporating the patients who underwent dissection of the root of mesentery with inferior infracolic SMA first approach pancreat-oduodenectomy for the ventral body and uncinate mass of pancreas in the Department of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery of Kathmandu Medical College and Teaching Hospital from January 1,2021 to February 28,2024.Intraop-erative findings and postoperative outcomes were analyzed.RESULTS In three years, ten patients underwent root of mesentery dissection with inferior infracolic SMA first approach pancreatoduodenectomy. The mean age was 67.6 years with a male-to-female ratio of 4:5.CL was seen in four patients. With virtue of CL,Clavien-Dindo grade Ⅱ or higher morbidity was observed in four patients. Two patients had a hospital stay of more than 20 days with the former having a delayed gastric emptying and the latter with long-term total parenteral nutrition requirement. The mean operative time was 330 minutes.Curative resection was achieved in 100%of the patients. The mean duration of the intensive care unit and hospital stay were 2.55±1.45 days and 15.7±5.32 days, respectively.CONCLUSION Root of mesentery dissection with lymphadenectomy and vascular resection correlated with occurrence of CL.After complete curative resection, these were managed with total parenteral nutrition without adversely impacting outcome.

文摘Promoting synaptic plasticity and inducing functional reorganization of residual nerve fibers hold clinical significance for restoring motor function following spinal cord injury.Neuromagnetic stimulation targeting the nerve roots has been shown to improve motor function by enhancing nerve conduction in the injured spinal cord and restoring the synaptic ultrastructure of both the sensory and motor cortex. However, our understanding of the neurophysiological mechanisms by which nerve root magnetic stimulation facilitates motor function recovery in the spinal cord is limited, and its role in neuroplasticity remains unclear. In this study,we established a model of spinal cord injury in adult male Sprague–Dawley rats by applying moderate compression at the T10 vertebra. We then performed magnetic stimulation on the L5 nerve root for 3 weeks, beginning on day 3 post-injury.At day 22 post-injury,we observed that nerve root magnetic stimulation downregulated the level of interleukin-6 in the injured spinal cord tissue of rats.Additionally, this treatment reduced neuronal damage and glial scar formation, and increased the number of neurons in the injured spinal cord.Furthermore, nerve root magnetic stimulation decreased the levels of acetylcholine, norepinephrine, and dopamine, and increased the expression of synaptic plasticity-related m RNA and proteins PSD95,GAP43,and Synapsin II.Taken together, these results showed that nerve root magnetic stimulation alleviated neuronal damage in the injured spinal cord, regulated synaptic plasticity, and suppressed inflammatory responses. These findings provide laboratory evidence for the clinical application of nerve root magnetic stimulation in the treatment of spinal cord injury.

文摘Traditional Chinese medicine Pseudostellaria heterophylla fibrous roots have been widely studied and applied in non-antibiotic clinical breeding of livestock and poultry. It is of great significance to further de-velop and utilize P. heterophylla fibrous roots resources in modern animal husbandry.

文摘If a partial contralateral C7 nerve is transferred to a recipient injured nerve, results are not satisfactory. This result indicates that the entire root should be used as a donor when transferring contralateral C7 nerve.
文摘Vegetation roots contribute to soil fixation and reinforcement, thus improving soil resistance against erosion. The analysis of variance showed that wind and slope induced stresses did not have any significant effect on the amount of increased cohesion of H. persicum. The findings served to develop knowledge about biotechnical properties of H. persicum root system that can assist in assessing the efficiency of afforestation and restoration measures for erosion control in arid lands.
