A total of ten meiofaunal taxa were identified, including free-living marine nematodes, benthic copepods, polychaetes, oligochaetes, bivalves, ostracods, cnidarians, turbellarians, tardigrades and other animals. Free-living marine nematodes were the most dominant group in both abundance and biomass. The abundances of marine nematodes were higher in winter and spring than those in summer and autumn. Most of the meiofauna distributed in the 0–2 cm sediment layer. The abundance of meiofauna in hightidal zone was lower than those in low-tidal and mid-tidal zones. Results of correlation analysis showed that Chlorophyll a was the most important factor to influence the seasonal dynamics of the abundance, biomass of meiofauna and abundances of nematodes and copepods. CLUSTER analysis divided the meiofaunal assemblages into three groups and BIOENV results indicated that salinity, concentration of organic matter, sediment sorting coefficient and sediment median diameter were the main environmental factors influencing the meiofaunal assemblages.展开更多

Hydrodynamic models based on the Saint-Venant equations (the SVN model) are extensively used to model tidal rivers. A force-corrected term expressed as the combination of flow velocity and the change rate of the tidal fevel was developed to represent tidal effects in the SVN model. A momentum equation incorporating with the corrected term was derived based on Newton's second law. By combing the modified momentum equation with the continuity equation, an improved SVN model for tidal rivers (the ISVN model) was constructed. The simulation of a tidal reach of the Qiantang River shows that the ISVN model performs better than the SVN model. It indicates that the corrected force derived for tidal effects is reasonable; the ISVN model provides an appropriate enhancement of the SVN model for flow simulation of tidal rivers.展开更多

Sediment contents from 1952 to 2007 on Toudaoguai, Tongguan, Huayuankou and Lijin sections along the river are chosen as the study time series, and correlation dimensions (D2), Kolmogorov entropies (K2), and Hurst indexes (H) of the time series were calculated. Correlation dimensions on Toudaoguai, Tongguan, Huayuankou, and Lijin sections are 3.24, 5.69, 6.57 and 7.34 respectively, and the Kolmogorov entropies are 0.13, 0.37, 0.40 and 0.38 respectively, which indicates that the systems controlled by different sections along the Yellow River are chaotic systems and the chaotic degrees increase gradually from the upper to lower section. The average predictable period of the sediment contents is 8 years on Toudaoguai section and 3 years on the other sections with the reciprocals of the Kolmogorov entropies. The more obvious the chaotic degree is, the shorter the average predictable period is. Hurst indexes on the sections are above 0.5, with the maximum of 0.86 on Tongguan section and the minimum of 0.68 on Toudaoguai section, which indicates that the time series have persistent trends in the average predictable period. Eight state variables and two control parameters are necessary to construct the dynamic model of the Yellow River Basin system.展开更多

Experimental data suggest that as the flow depth increases over the second stage floodplain, fractional contribution of the main channel and first stage floodplain under bankfull height plays a pivotal role in shear layer and momentum distribution. Therefore, a new mathematical model has been suggested for estimating the stage-discharge relationship for staged channels of more than one floodplain using the 1D technique of overall roughness correction. .展开更多

In ACt, ants form paths (prob- lem solutions) by following each other's pheromone trails and reinforcing trails at best paths until eventually a single path is followed. On the other hand, RFD is based on copy- ing how drops form rivers by eroding the ground and de- positing sediments. In a rough sense, RFD can be seen as a gradient-oriented version of ACt. Several previous experi- ments have shown that the gradient orientation of RFD makes this method solve problems in a different way as ACt. In particular, RFD typically performs deeper searches, which in turn makes it find worse solutions than ACt in the first exe- cution steps in general, though RFD solutions surpass ACt solutions after some more time passes. In this paper we try to get the best features of both worlds by hybridizing RFD and ACt. We use a kind of ant-drop hybrid and consider both pheromone trails and altitudes in the environment. We apply the hybrid method, as well as ACt and RFD, to solve two NP-hard problems where ACt and RFD fit in a different manner: the traveling salesman problem (TSP) and the prob- lem of the minimum distances tree in a variable-cost graph (MDV). We compare the results of each method and we an- alyze the advantages of using the hybrid approach in each case.展开更多
