The utilization of multi-field coupling simulation methods has become a pivotal approach for the investigation of intricate fracture behavior and interaction mechanisms of rock masses in deep strata. The high temperatures, pressures and complex geological environments of deep strata frequently result in the coupling of multiple physical fields, including mechanical, thermal and hydraulic fields, during the fracturing of rocks. This review initially presents an overview of the coupling mechanisms of these physical fields, thereby elucidating the interaction processes ofmechanical, thermal, and hydraulic fields within rockmasses.Secondly,an in-depth analysis ofmulti-field coupling is conducted from both spatial and temporal perspectives, with the introduction of simulation methods for a range of scales. It emphasizes cross-scale coupling methodologies for the transfer of rock properties and physical field data, including homogenization techniques, nested coupling strategies and data-driven approaches. To address the discontinuous characteristics of the rock fracture process, the review provides a detailed explanation of continuousdiscontinuous couplingmethods,to elucidate the evolution of rock fracturing and deformationmore comprehensively. In conclusion, the review presents a summary of the principal points, challenges and future directions of multi-field coupling simulation research. It also puts forward the potential of integrating intelligent algorithms with multi-scale simulation techniques to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of multi-field coupling simulations. This offers novel insights into multi-field coupling simulation analysis in deep rock masses. 展开更多

The coupling between heat and pressure is the kernel of inertia friction welding(IFW)and is still not fully understood.A novel 3D fully coupled finite element model based on a plastic friction pair was developed to simulate the IFW process of a Ni-based superalloy and reveal the omnidirectional thermo-mechanical coupling mechanism of the friction interface. The numerical model successfully simulated the deceleration, deformation processes, and peak torsional moments in IFW and captured the evolution of temperature, contact pressure, and stress. The simulated results were validated through measured thermal history, optical macrography, and axial shortening. The results indicated that interfacial friction heat was the primary heat source, and plastic deformation energy only accounted for 4%of the total. The increase in initial rotational speed and friction pressure elevated the peak temperature, reaching a maximum of 1525.5K at an initial rotational speed of 2000 r/min and friction pressure of 400 MPa.The interface heat generation could form an axial temperature gradient exceeding 320K/mm.The radial inhomogeneities of heat generation and temperature were manifested in a concentric ring distribution with maximum heat flux and temperature ranging from 2/5 to 2/3 radius. The radial inhomogeneities were caused by increasing linear velocity along the radius and an opposite distribution of contact pressure, which could reach 1.7 times the set pressure at the center. The circumferential inhomogeneity of thermomechanical distribution during rotary friction welding was revealed for the first time, benefiting from the 3D model. The deflection and transformation of distribution in contact pressure and Mises stress were indicators of plastic deformation and transition of quasi-steady state welding. The critical Mises stress was 0.5 times the friction pressure in this study. The presented modeling provides a reliable insight into the thermo-mechanical coupling mechanism of IFW and lays a solid foundation for predicting the microstructures and mechanical properties of inertia friction welded joints. 展开更多

The arresting process of carrier-based aircraft is widely recognized as a challenging task, characterized by the highest accident rate among all carrier-based aircraft operations.Dynamic simulation plays a crucial role in assessing the intricate responses of the arresting process, favoring the design of carrier-based aircraft. An efficient and accurate rigid-flexible coupling model for analyzing the dynamic response of the arresting process is proposed.By combining the dynamic characteristics of airframe, landing gear, arresting hook and arresting gear system, the rigid-flexible coupling dynamic model is established to reflect the relative motion of the coupling parts and arresting load. The dynamic model is verified through simulations of landing gear landing drops and by comparing the arresting simulation results with corresponding data in the US military standard.Additionally, simulations of the arresting process under different off-center distance and aircraft yaw angle are conducted to obtain the dynamic response of the aircraft during the arresting process. The result indicates that the rigid-flexible coupling dynamic model proposed is effective for analyzing the arresting dynamics response of carrier-based aircraft. The axial force of the arresting cable on both sides of the hook engagement point, pitch and yaw angle of aircraft are inconsistent under yaw and off-center arresting. The analysis method and obtained results provide valuable references for assessing the dynamic responses of carrier-based aircraft during arresting process and offer valuable in-sights in the design of carrier-based aircraft. 展开更多

Shallow water infrastructure needs to support increased activity on the shores of Semarang. This study chooses several pontoons because of their good stability, rolling motion, and more expansive space.A coupled simulation method consisting of hydrodynamic and structural calculations has been used to evaluate a catamaran pontoon’s motion and structural integrity.Four different space sizes are set for the pontoon system:5 m,5.5 m,6 m,and 6.5 m.The frequency domain shows that the pontoon space affects the RAO in wave periods ranging from 3 s to 5 s.At wave periods of 3 s,4 s,and 5 s,the pontoon space significantly affects the maximum motion and chain tension parameter values, which are evaluated via time domain simulation. The critical stress of the pontoon is shown at a wave period of 5 s for 5 m and 5.5 m of pontoon space, which shows that the stress can reach 248 MPa. 展开更多

The global rise in energy demand, particularly in remote and sparsely populated regions, necessitates innovative and cost-effective electrical distribution solutions. Traditional Rural Electrification (RE) methods, like Conventional Rural Electrification (CRE), have proven economically unfeasible in such areas due to high infrastructure costs and low electricity demand. Consequently, Unconventional Rural Electrification (URE) technologies, such as Capacitor Coupled Substations (CCS), are gaining attention as viable alternatives. This study presents the design and simulation of an 80 kW CCS system, which taps power directly from a 132 kV transmission line to supply low-voltage consumers. The critical components of the CCS, the capacitors are calculated, then a MATLAB/Simulink model with the attained results is executed. Mathematical representation and state-space representation for maintaining the desired tapped voltage area also developed. The research further explores the feasibility and operational performance of this CCS configuration, aiming to address the challenges of rural electrification by offering a sustainable and scalable solution. The results show that the desired value of the tapped voltage can be achieved at any level of High Voltage (HV) with the selection of capacitors that are correctly rated. With an adequately designed control strategy, the research also shows that tapped voltage can be attained under both steady-state and dynamic loads. By leveraging CCS technology, the study demonstrates the potential for delivering reliable electricity to underserved areas, highlighting the system’s practicality and effectiveness in overcoming the limitations of conventional distribution methods. 展开更多

Permafrost regions of Qilian Mountains in China are rich in gas hydrate resources.Once greenhouse gases in deep frozen layer are released into the atmosphere during hydrate mining,a series of negative consequences occur. This study aims to evaluate the impact of hydrate thermal exploitation on regional permafrost and carbon budgets based on a multi-physical field coupling simulation. The results indicate that the permeability of the frozen soil is anisotropic, and the low permeability frozen layer can seal the methane gas in the natural state.Heat injection mining of hydrates causes the continuous melting of permafrost and the escape of methane gas, which transforms the regional permafrost from a carbon sink to a carbon source.A higher injection temperature concentrates the heat and causes uneven melting of the upper frozen layer, which provides a dominant channel for methane gas and results in increased methane emissions. However, dense heat injection wells cause more uniform melting of the lower permafrost layer, and the melting zone does not extend to the upper low permeability formation, which cannot provide advantageous channels for methane gas. Therefore,a reasonable and dense number of heat injection wells can reduce the risk of greenhouse gas emissions during hydrate exploitation. 展开更多

Based on global initiatives such as the clean energy transition and the development of renewable energy, the pumped storage power station has become a new and significant way of energy storage and regulation, and its construction environment is more complex than that of a traditional reservoir. In particular, the stability of the rock strata in the underground reservoirs is affected by the seepage pressure and rock stress, which presents some challenges in achieving engineering safety and stability.Using the advantages of the numerical simulation method in dealing deal with nonlinear problems in engineering stability,in this study, the stability of the underground reservoir of the Shidangshan(SDS)pumped storage power station was numerically calculated and quantitatively analyzed based on fluid-structure coupling theory, providing an important reference for the safe operation and management of the underground reservoir.First, using the COMSOL software,a suitablemechanicalmodel was created in accordance with the geological structure and project characteristics of the underground reservoir.Next, the characteristics of the stress field, displacement field, and seepage field after excavation of the underground reservoir were simulated in light of the seepage effect of groundwater on the nearby rock of the underground reservoir. Finally, based on the construction specifications and Molar-Coulomb criterion,a thorough evaluation of the stability of the underground reservoir was performed through simulation of the filling and discharge conditions and anti-seepage strengthening measures. The findings demonstrate that the numerical simulation results have a certain level of reliability and are in accordance with the stress measured in the project area. The underground reservoir excavation resulted in a maximum displacement value of the rock mass around the caverns of 3.56 mm in a typical section, and the safety coefficient of the parts,as determined using the Molar-Coulomb criterion, was higher than 1,indicating that the project as a whole is in a stable state. 展开更多

Increased human activities in China's coastal zone have resulted in the depletion of ecological land resources. Thus, conducting current and future multi-scenario simulation research on land use and land cover change(LUCC)is crucial for guiding the healthy and sustainable development of coastal zones.System dynamic(SD)-future land use simulation(FLUS)model,a coupled simulation model, was developed to analyze land use dynamics in China's coastal zone. This model encompasses five scenarios,namely,SSP1-RCP2.6(A),SSP2-RCP4.5(B),SSP3-RCP4.5(C),SSP4-RCP4.5(D),and SSP5-RCP8.5(E).The SD model simulates land use demand on an annual basis up to the year 2100.Subsequently,the FLUS model determines the spatial distribution of land use for the near term(2035),medium term(2050),and long term(2100).Results reveal a slowing trend in land use changes in China's coastal zone from 2000–2020.Among these changes, the expansion rate of construction land was the highest and exhibited an annual decrease.By 2100,land use predictions exhibit high accuracy, and notable differences are observed in trends across scenarios. In summary, the expansion of production, living, and ecological spaces toward the sea remains prominent.Scenario A emphasizes reduced land resource dependence, benefiting ecological land protection.Scenario B witnesses an intensified expansion of artificial wetlands.Scenario C sees substantial land needs for living and production, while Scenario D shows coastal forest and grassland shrinkage.Lastly,in Scenario E,the conflict between humans and land intensifies. This study presents pertinent recommendations for the future development, utilization, and management of coastal areas in China. The research contributes valuable scientific support for informed,long-term strategic decision making within coastal regions. 展开更多

For space-borne gravitational wave detection missions based on the heterodyne interferometry principle,tilt-to-length(TTL)coupling noise is an important optical noise source, significantly influencing the accuracy of the measurement system. We present a method for analyzing TTL coupling noise under the joint influence of multiple factors. An equivalent simulated optical bench for the test mass interferometer was designed, and Gaussian beam tracing was adopted to simulate beam propagation.By simulating the interference signal,it can analyze the impact of various factors on the TTL coupling noise, including positional, beam parameters, detector parameters, and signal definition factors. On this basis,a random parameter space composed of multiple influential factors was constructed within a range satisfying the analysis requirement, and the corresponding simulation results from random sampling were evaluated via variance-based global sensitivity analysis. The calculated results of the main and total effect indexes show that the test mass rotation angle and the piston effect(lateral)significantly influence the TTL coupling noise in the test mass interferometer. The analysis provides a qualitative reference for designing and optimizing space-borne laser interferometry systems. 展开更多

During the propagation of high-power lasers within internal channels, the laser beam heats the propagation medium, causing the thermal blooming effect that degrades the beam quality at the output. The intricate configuration of the optical path within the internal channel necessitates complex and time-consuming efforts to assess the impact of thermal blooming effect on the optical path.To meet the engineering need for rapid evaluation of thermal blooming effect in optical paths, this study proposed a rapid simulation method for the thermal blooming effect in internal optical paths based on the finite element method. This method discretized the fluid region into infinitesimal elements and employed finite element method for flow field analysis.A simplified analytical model of the flow field region in complex internal channels was established, and regions with similar thermal blooming effect were divided within this model.Based on the calculated optical path differences within these regions, numerical simulations of phase distortion caused by thermal blooming were conducted. The calculated result were compared with those obtained using the existing methods. The findings reveal that for complex optical paths, the discrepancy between the two approaches is less than 3.6%,with similar phase distortion patterns observed. For L-type units, this method and the existing methods identify the same primary factors influencing aberrations and exhibit consistent trends in their variation. This method was used to analyze the impact of thermal blooming effect in a straight channel under different gravity directions. The results show that phase distortion varies with changes in the direction of gravity, and the magnitude of the phase difference is strongly correlated with the component of gravity perpendicular to the optical axis.Compared to the existing methods, this approach offers greater flexibility, obviates the need for complex custom analysis programming. The analytical results of this method enable a rapid assessment of the thermal blooming effect in optical paths within the internal channel. This is especially useful during the engineering design. These results also provide crucial references for developing strategies to suppress thermal blooming effect. 展开更多

Magnetic nanostructures with nonhomogeneous magnetic properties exhibit distinct magnon modes, and their interactions are crucial for understanding magnetization dynamics. In this work,we numerically investigate the magnon-magnon coupling in a nanodisk with radially varying magnetic anisotropy by using micromagnetic simulations.By introducing perpendicular magnetic anisotropy into the inner region of the nanodisk,a radially chiral spin texture is observed. The presence of the chiral spin texture results in coupling between the ferromagnetic resonance mode of the whole disk and the higher-order confined modes in the outer region. Moreover,we find that the coupling strength is highly sensitive to the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy, the saturation magnetization, and the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. Our findings could enrich the understanding of the dynamic characteristics of chiral nanomagnets and suggest a possible route to harnessing tunable magnon-magnon coupling for spin-based quantum information processing. 展开更多

Deep underground excavation causes considerable unloading effects, leading to a pronounced bias pressure phenomenon. The deformation and seepage characteristics of rock masses under different gas and confining pressures were investigated via triaxial loading and unloading seepage tests. When the influential coefficient of effective confining pressure(β)is less than 0.065,the seepage force considerably weakens the strength of fractured rock masses.Conversely, whenβis greater than 0.065,the opposite is true. Moreover, the increase in the axial load leads to an increase in the precast fracture volumetric strain, which is the main reason for the increase in fracture permeability. This effect is particularly significant during the unloading stage.Based on the test results,a method for calculating the dynamic seepage evolution of rock masses, considering the effects of rock mass damage and fracture deformation,is introduced, and the effectiveness of the calculation is validated. The entire description of the seepage under loading and unloading was accomplished. The equivalent relationship between the lateral and normal stresses on fracture surfaces ranges from 0.001 to 0.1,showing an exponential variation between the lateral stress influence coefficient on normal deformation(χ)and seepage pressure. Before the failure of the rock mass, the seepage in the fractures was in a linear laminar flow state. However, after the failure, when the gas pressure reached 2 MPa,the flow state in the fractures transitioned to nonlinear laminar flow. The results are important for predicting hazardous gas leaks during deep underground engineering excavation. 展开更多

With policy support for carbon capture, utilization, and storage(CCUS),an integrated approach that combines energy storage fracturing,CO_(2)-enhanced oil recovery(EOR),and storage emerges as a promising direction for the shale oil industry. The process of energy storage fracturing induces significant changes in the pressure and saturation of the medium. However, conventional simulations often overlook the effects of fracturing and shut-in operations on the seepage field and production performance.Furthermore, fractured shale reservoirs exhibit complex non-Darcy flow characteristics due to intricate pore structures and multi-scale porous media.A comprehensive understanding of flow mechanisms is essential for effective reservoir development and CO_(2) storage. This study establishes a multi-component simulation model that encompasses the life-cycle of fracturing,shut-in,production,and CO_(2) huff-n-puff processes, thereby ensuring the continuity of the seepage field. The model accounts for the effect of nano-confinement on phase behavior by modifying the equation of state.Furthermore, the flux term is adjusted to incorporate Maxwell–Stefan diffusion,pre-/post-Darcy flow, and stress sensitivity. The embedded discrete fracture model(EDFM)is employed to simulate multiphase flow within multi-scale media, and the results from the validation model align satisfactorily with those derived from ECLIPSE.Mechanism analysis indicates that the interaction of multiple mechanisms significantly influences both production and storage performance.Under the multi-mechanism coupling, the cumulative oil production increased by 12.01%,while the utilization and storage factors increased by 62.93%and 8.93%,respectively.The role of molecular diffusion in shale oil reservoirs may be overstated, contributing only a 0.26% enhancement in oil production.Simulation results show that the energy storage fracturing strategy can increase oil production and net present value by 12.47%and 15.07%,respectively.Sensitivity analysis indicates that the CO_(2) injection rate is the main factor affecting the recovery factor, followed by CO_(2) injection time and the number of cycles, with fracturing fluid volume having the least impact. This study develops a multi-process,multi-mechanism simulation framework for multi-scale shale oil reservoirs. This framework provides a robust evaluation system for CCUS-EOR,facilitating informed decision-making in fracturing stimulation, development planning, and parameter optimization. 展开更多

As energy demand increases, the depth of mining is increasing, and methane disasters grow more serious, efficient extraction of methane is the ultimate method of preventing and controlling methane disasters. The objectives for this research are to explore the efficiency of N_(2) injection to enhance gas extraction from coal seams(N_(2)-ECGE)and its impact on coal seam permeability.By developing a fluid-solid coupling model and using COMSOL Multiphysics to perform numerical simulations, the changes in gas pressure, methane content, gas production, output rate and permeability of coal seams were comparatively analyzed under the two methods of direct extraction and N_(2)-ECGE.The research results show that N_(2)-ECGE can significantly improve the coal seam gas pressure and reduce the coal seam CH_(4) content, and the larger the N_(2) injection pressure the more significant the reduction effect.Meanwhile,N_(2)-ECGE can significantly increase the CH_(4) extraction and output rate, and the increase of N_(2) pressure further improves the extraction efficiency. In addition, the pressure of nitrogen injection has a remarkable effect on coal seam permeability, high pressure of nitrogen injection can increase the permeability in the time of no disturbance, but the rate of permeability decreases more quickly after disturbed. The effect of strain due to adsorption desorption on coal seam permeability dominates.Despite model construction limitations, this research offers essential theoretical and practical direction for N_(2) injection to enhance the permeability evolution law of coal seam gas extraction process. 展开更多

In Earth system modeling, the land surface is coupled with the atmosphere through surface turbulent fluxes. These fluxes are computed using mean meteorological variables between the surface and a reference height in the atmosphere. However, the dependence of flux computation on the reference height, which is usually set as the lowest level in the atmosphere in Earth system models, has not received much attention.Based on high-resolution large-eddy simulation(LES)data under unstable conditions,we find the setting of reference height is not trivial within the framework of current surface layer theory. With a reasonable prescription of aerodynamic roughness length(following the setting in LESs),reference heights near the top of the surface layer tend to provide the best estimate of surface fluxes, especially for the momentum flux.Furthermore, this conclusion for the sensible heat flux is insensitive to the ratio of roughness length for momentum versus heat. These results are robust, whether using the classical or revised surface layer theory. They provide a potential guide for setting the proper reference heights for Earth system modeling and can be further tested in the near future using observational data from land–atmosphere feedback observatories. 展开更多

To address the issue of extensive deformation in the Tabaiyi Tunnel caused by the fault zone, nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)technology was employed to analyze the physical and mechanical properties of waterabsorbing mudstone. This analysis aimed to understand the mechanism behind the significant deformations.Drawing from the principle of excavation stress compensation,a support scheme featuring NPR anchorcables and an asymmetric truss support system was devised. To validate the scheme, numerical analysis using a combination of the Discrete Element Method(DEM)-Finite Element Method(FEM)was conducted.Additionally, similar material model tests and engineering measurements were carried out.Field experiments were also performed to evaluate the NPR anchor-cable and truss support system, focusing on anchor cable forces, pressures between the truss and surrounding rock, pressures between the initial support and secondary lining,as well as the magnitude of settlement and convergence deformation in the surrounding rock. The results indicate that the waterinduced expansion of clay minerals, resulting from damage caused by fissure water, accelerated the softening of the mudstone's internal structure, leading to significant deformations in the Tabaiyi Tunnel under high tectonic stress. The original support design fell short as the length of the anchor rods was smaller than the expansion depth of the plastic zone.As a result, the initial support structure bore the entire load from the surrounding rock, and a non-coupled deformation contact was observed between the double-arch truss and the surrounding rock. The adoption of NPR asymmetric anchor-cable support effectively restrained the expansion and asymmetric distribution characteristics of the plastic zone.Considering the mechanical degradation caused by water absorption in mudstone, the rigid constraint provided by the truss proved crucial for controlling the stability of the surrounding rock. These research findings hold significant implications for managing large deformations in soft rock tunnels situated within fractured zones under high tectonic stress conditions. 展开更多

Injection-production coupling(IPC) technology holds substantial potential for boosting oil recovery and enhancing economic efficiency.Despite this potential, discussion on gas injection coupling, especially in relation to microscopic mechanisms, remains relatively sparse. This study utilizes microscopic visualization experiments to investigate the mechanisms of residual oil mobilization under various IPC scenarios, complemented by mechanical analysis at different stages. The research quantitatively assesses the degree of microscopic oil recovery and the distribution of residual oil across different injection-production methods.Findings reveal that during the initial phase of continuous gas injection(CGI),the process closely mimics miscible displacement, gradually transitioning to immiscible displacement as CO_(2)extraction progresses.Compared to CGI,the asynchronous injection-production(AIP) method improved the microscopic oil recovery rate by 6.58%.This enhancement is mainly attributed to significant variations in the pressure field in the AIP method, which facilitate the mobilization of columnar and porous re sidual oil.Furthermo re,the synchronous cycle injection(SCI) method increased microscopic oil recovery by 13.77% and 7.19% compared to CGI and AIP,respectively. In the SCI method, membrane oil displays filame ntary and Karman vo rtex street flow patterns. The dissolved and expanded crude oil te nds to accumulate and grow at the oil-solid interface due to adhesive forces, thereby reducing migration resistance. The study findings provide a theoretical foundation for improving oil recovery in lowpermeability reservoirs. 展开更多

Uneven frost heave deformation can shorten the operational lifespan of foundation engineering.Clarifying the mechanisms of uneven frost heave facilitates the targeted mitigation of frost damage. This study focused on a water conveyance channel in Jilin Province, northern China, and found after monitoring that the frost heave at the channel bottom lining exceeded that at the crest by 44.5 mm,with the freezing temperature at the bottom being over 2℃lower than that at the crest.Soil columns with an initial gravimetric moisture content of 12%,16%,18%,and 20%were then prepared. The effects of temperature and moisture content on frost heave were analyzed under two freezing conditions(-5℃and-10℃)through unidirectional freezing tests.A coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical(THM)frost heave model, validated by the test results, was further established. In the soil with an initial moisture content of 20%,the formation of ice lenses associated with substantial water migration contributed to a large temperature gradient, which can jointly induce frost heave.Under the-10℃condition,the temperature gradient in the soil column with a 20%initial moisture content reached 0.84℃/cm,the total water migration reached 10.72%,and the frost heave deformation was 1.86 mm.The THM coupling results indicated that, under the interaction of a large temperature gradient and moisture accumulation, the volumetric ice content remained high in the bottom soil during freezing and peaked at 0.36.The frost damage to the bottom soil was severe, and the maximum deformation reached 57 mm. 展开更多

Considering the dynamic variation of roll gap and the transverse distribution of dynamic rolling force along the work roll width direction, the movement and deformation of rolls system, influenced by the coupling of vertical chatter and transverse bending vibration, may cause instability and also bring product defect of thickness difference. Therefore, a rigid-flexible coupling vibration model of the rolls system was presented. The influence of dynamic characteristics on the rolling process stability and strip thickness distribution was investigated. Firstly, assuming the symmetry of upper and lower structures of six-high rolling mill, a transverse bending vibration model of three-beam system under simply supported boundary conditions was established, and a semi-analytical solution method was proposed to deal with this model. Then, considering both variation and change rate of the roll gap, a roll vertical chatter model with structure and process coupled was constructed, and the critical rolling speed for self-excited instability was determined by Routh stability criterion. Furthermore, a rigid-flexible coupling vibration model of the rolls system was built by connecting the vertical chatter model and transverse bending vibration model through the distribution of dynamic rolling force, and the dynamic characteristics of rolls system were analyzed. Finally, the strip exit thickness distributions under the stable and unstable rolling process were compared, and the product shape and thickness distribution characteristics were quantitatively evaluated by the crown and maximum longitudinal thickness difference. 展开更多
