The aim of this study is to analyze the retracted papers from university-affiliated hospitals in China’s mainland from 2000 to 2021. Design/methodology/approach: Data for 1,031 retracted papers were identified from the Web of Science Core collection database. The information of the hospitals involved was obtained from their official websites. We analyzed the chronological changes, journal distribution, discipline distribution and retraction reasons for the retracted papers. The grade and geographic locations of the hospitals involved were explored as well.Findings: We found a rapid increase in the number of retracted papers, while the retraction time interval is decreasing. The main reasons for retraction are plagiarism/self-plagiarism(n=255), invalid data/images/conclusions(n=212), fake peer review(n=175) and honesty error(n=163). The disciplines are mainly distributed in oncology(n=320), pharmacology & pharmacy(n=198) and research & experimental medicine(n=166). About 43.8% of the retracted papers were from hospitals affiliated with prestigious universities. Research limitations: This study fails to differentiate between retractions due to honest error and retractions due to research misconduct. We believe that there is a fundamental difference between honest error retractions and misconduct retractions. Another limitation is that authors of the retracted papers have not been analyzed in this study.Practical implications: This study provides a reference for addressing research misconduct in Chinese university-affiliated hospitals. It is our recommendation that universities and hospitals should educate all their staff about the basic norms of research integrity, punish authors of scientific misconduct retracted papers, and reform the unreasonable evaluation system.Originality/value: Based on the analysis of retracted papers, this study further analyzes the characteristics of institutions of retracted papers, which may deepen the research on retracted papers and provide a new perspective to understand the retraction phenomenon.展开更多

文摘The utilization of research papers has been crucial in facilitating pandemic decision-making and management.Despite the unprecedented surge of scientific publications in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the retraction of papers related to data has been increasingly frequent, indicating shortcomings in the quality control of current research data.In this study,we aim to examine the root causes and characteristics of data-related retractions amidst the deluge of pandemic research papers, with a particular focus on articles that contain flaws stemming from issues related to research data quality. Our findings suggest that retractions related to data quality deficiencies indicate a dearth of actors and mechanisms within the research quality management landscape. The monitoring and control of data quality cannot be left solely to the self-regulation of the academic community.Hence, our study proposes recommendations for ensuring research data quality in pandemic publications from three perspectives:the management of scientific research quality, data sharing and evaluation mechanisms;publication and dissemination scrutiny mechanisms;and academic early warning and tolerance mechanisms.
文摘We report a unique case of a patient who underwent cystectomy with ileal conduit for nonmalignant bladder disease.Pa postoperatively developed stomal necrosis which was managed conservatively but after few months there was severe stomal stenosis and retraction and patient ended up with bilateral nephrostomies. On planned open abdominal exploration with intention to refashion stoma, after resection of distal stenosed segment we found that it was impossible to mobilize proximal portion of conduit due to severe small bowel adhesions. We used a unique approach of creating one more ileal conduit, bringing it as a new stoma on one side and anastomosing its other side with proximal one(ileal conduit over conduit)to augment deficient portion. This technique is not mentioned in the literature and as such we are reporting same as it can help many urologists who may encounter such problems.
文摘BACKGROUND Among the rapidly developing single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC)techniques, transumbilical single-incision LC is increasingly replacing the traditional LC,with advantages of minimal invasion, slight postoperative pain, faster recovery.Despite the advantages mentioned above, the currently available specialized single-port laparoscopic instruments are hindered by high costs and limited applications, challenging their widespread use in medical facilities.AIM To design a two-point lifting/retracting(TPLR)technique for transumbilical single-port LC(TUSPLC)based on the anatomical features of the Calot's triangle(or cystohepatic triangle)and investigate its surgical feasibility.METHODS The clinical data of 103 patients who underwent TUSPLC utilizing the TPLR technique in the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at our hospital between June 2023 and June 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. The patient cohort included 82 cases of cholelithiasis,11 cases of gallbladder polyps,6 cases of concurrent gallstones and polyps, and 4 cases of gallbladder adenomyomatosis.RESULTS All the surgical procedures were conducted using standard laparoscopic instruments.Surgery was successful in 98(95.14%)patients using the TPLR method, which effectively exposed the Calot's triangle during surgery. The operative time ranged from 35 to 70 minutes, with an average of 42.4±26.8 minutes. In 3 cases,an additional operative port was required below the xiphoid process, and 2 cases were converted to conventional three-port LC.No complications such as abdominal pain, fever, bile leakage, hemorrhage,or incisional infection were noted postoperatively. No discernible surgical scars were observed at the 2-week postoperative reexamination.Additionally,a 3-month follow-up period revealed no complications.CONCLUSION The TPLR technique, developed based on the anatomical features of the Calot's triangle, facilitates exposure of the Calot's triangle during surgery. It is a simple, safe, feasible, and cost-effective method, and a promising approach for single-port LC.
文摘Purpose:This study examines the impact of research policy changes on scientific retractions of publications authored by Romanian authors, focusing on national trends and the interplay between policy reforms and publishing practices.Design/methodology/approach:Using data from the Retraction Watch Database and Web of Science(WoS),188 unique retractions involving Romanian authors(2000-2022)were analyzed. The study compared retraction patterns before and after the 2016 reforms, which prioritized the publication of articles in WoS-indexed journals over non-WoS outputs.Findings:The analysis identified two key trends:(1)before the 2016 reforms, retractions predominantly involved non-WoS journals(99 non-WoS retractions to 38 WoS retractions),a trend that reversed post-reform(16 non-WoS to 35 WoS),and(2)while the total number of WoS-indexed retractions increased after the reforms, the retraction rates for WoS articles remained stable.Post-reform reliance on MDPI journals, which have low retraction rates, partially explains this stability.Excluding MDPI publications, retraction rates for articles and reviews increase by 14.91%,aligning with patterns seen elsewhere.Research limitations:The study focuses on retractions involving Romanian authors, limiting its generalizability.Furthermore, reliance on database records may not fully capture all retractions.Practical implications:These findings underscore the need for research policy reforms to consider a broader range of effects, and the need for nuanced interpretations of retraction data, which are influenced by a complex range of factors, including specific publisher practices.Originality/value:This research is the first to investigate the complex relationship between research policy reforms, publisher behavior, and retraction trends.

文摘Traditionally, liver retraction for laparoscopic gastrectomy is done via manual methods, such as the placement of retractors through the accessory ports and using a Nathanson retractor. However, these techniques often posed issues including extra abdominal incisions, risk of liver injury or ischaemia, and the potential for compromised visualization.Over the years, the development of innovative liver retraction techniques has significantly improved the safety and efficacy of laparoscopic gastrectomy and similar other hiatal procedures. This editorial will comment on the article by Lin et al,and compare this to the other liver retractor techniques available for surgeons and highlight the pros and cons of each technique of liver retraction.
文摘AIM:To identify differences in clinical features between thyroid eye disease(TED)patients with and without strabismus.METHODS:This retrospective,single-center,consecutive case series study was conducted on TED patients who were determined to be surgical candidates. The patients’cohort were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of strabismus.Demographics and complete eye examinations were recorded and compared between the TED and TED with strabismus groups.RESULTS:A total of 76 patients with TED were enrolled, including 58 males(76.3%)with a mean age of 52.68±10.45y.The 55 patients(male:female=2:1)were found to have TED with strabismus, while the remaining 21 patients(male:female=4:1)had TED without strabismus. There was nearly a four times greater likelihood of lid retraction being associated with TED without strabismus(OR=4.1,P=0.018)and they showed higher prevalence of proptosis(95.2%)than the TED strabismus group(63.6%,P<0.001).In the TED-strabismus group,20%of patients had abnormal head posture(AHP),while none were identified in the TED group(P=0.029).Despite the higher incidence of vision-threatening complications such as dysthyroid optic neuropathy(19%vs 8.1%)and exposure keratopathy(4.8%vs 1.8%)in the TED group than in the TED-strabismus group, the difference did not reach statistical significance(P>0.05).The most common types of strabismus were hypotropia(36%)and esotropia(29%),respectively.CONCLUSION:Strabismus-associated TED is characterized by a lower prevalence of proptosis and lid retraction, but a higher incidence of compensatory AHP.Identifying these differences may aid in risk stratification and early intervention for TED patients, particularly those at risk for restrictive strabismus.
