Tumor regression pattern may impact the prognosis of rectal cancer patients with tumor regression grade 1 after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy

Background:Tumor regression grade(TRG)is evaluated by calculating the proportion of residual tumor to stromal fibrosis,which can reflect the tumor response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy(NCRT)in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer(LARC).Overall,patients with TRG1 show good sensitivity to NCRT but the long-term survival for these patients remains different.This study aimed to assess the prognostic factors in patients with TRG1.Methods:LARC patients who underwent NCRT and radical surgery were included.TRG was evaluated according to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network guidelines.The association between clinicopathological factors and survival outcomes was assessed in patients with TRG1.Overall survival(OS)and disease-free survival(DFS)were evaluated using both Kaplan-Meier analyses and Cox proportional hazards models.Results:Of the 393 LARC patients,104(26.5%)were diagnosed with TRG1.The 5-year OS rates and 5-year DFS rates of patients with TRG1 were 90.9%and 72.2%,respectively.In patients with TRG1,the tumor regression pattern(P=0.001),pathologic tumor node metastasis(TNM)stage(P=0.002),neoadjuvant rectal score(P=0.024),T downstaging(P=0.022),and baseline carcinoembryonic antigen level(P=0.038)were associated with DFS in univariate analysis.Only the tumor regression pattern showed prognostic significance for DFS in multivariate analysis(P=0.003).The group with tumor shrinkage had a higher OS rate than the tumor fragmentation group but the differ-ence in the OS rates between the two groups was not significant(P=0.196).Conclusions:TRG could be a prognostic variable for LARC patients receiving NCRT.In patients with TRG1,the tumor regression pattern may represent another useful prognostic factor to better individualize the prognosis. 展开更多

To adapt to the new requirement of the developing flatness control theory and technology, cubic patterns were introduced on the basis of the traditional linear, quadratic and quartic flatness basic patterns. Linear, quadratic, cubic and quartic Legendre orthogonal polynomials were adopted to express the flatness basic patterns. In order to over- come the defects live in the existent recognition methods based on fuzzy, neural network and support vector regres- sion (SVR) theory, a novel flatness pattern recognition method based on least squares support vector regression (LS-SVR) was proposed. On this basis, for the purpose of determining the hyper-parameters of LS-SVR effectively and enhan- cing the recognition accuracy and generalization performance of the model, particle swarm optimization algorithm with leave-one-out (LOO) error as fitness function was adopted. To overcome the disadvantage of high computational complexity of naive cross-validation algorithm, a novel fast cross-validation algorithm was introduced to calculate the LOO error of LDSVR. Results of experiments on flatness data calculated by theory and a 900HC cold-rolling mill practically measured flatness signals demonstrate that the proposed approach can distinguish the types and define the magnitudes of the flatness defects effectively with high accuracy, high speed and strong generalization ability. 展开更多

Spatio-temporal pattern changes of land space in Hengduan Mountains during 1990–2015 被引量:11

However, the sustainable development and management of land space has been challenged by increased human activities in recent years. This paper performs the spatial pattern analysis of the quantitative and structural changes of various landscapes at different altitudes, and uses the land use data in 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2015 to reveal how various land patterns have changed. The results show that, within the production-living-ecological space schema, the ecological space dominates Hengduan Mountains, while the production and living space was mainly distributed in south region. During 1990-2015, the production-living-ecological spatial changes had been gradually accelerated and the regional differences had become more prominent. The agricultural production space had continuously decreased by 1132.31 km^2, and the industrial and mining production space had rapidly increased by 281.4 km^2 during 1990-2015. The living space had steadily increased, and the ecological space had increased with fluctuations. The land space pattern in Hengduan Mountains was greatly restricted by the terrain, such as altitude and slope. The implementations of China Western Development Strategy and the Returning Farmland to Forest Program had favorably promoted the changes of land spatial pattern in Hengduan Mountains. 展开更多

Sand cay is a special kind of islet formed by coral detritus and bioclast, which is common in Nansha Islands of China. Some sand cays play an important role in ocean strategy and economy, but surprisingly we know little about them, especially those recently formed sand cays. In this research, we monitor migration of a new sand cay in Nanxun Jiao(Gaven Reef) using a series of Quick Bird and World View-2 satellite images between June 2006 and August 2013. We conduct a regression between migration distance and wind observational data to examine the migration patterns of the new sand cay. The migration distance is calculated based on the sand cay locations extracted based on Normalized Difference Water Index(NDWI). The wind observational data downloaded from NOAA are reformed into four wind direction vectors. Based on the results of regression, we concluded that the migration of the new sand cay on Nanxun Jiao was significantly associated with the east, west and north wind.East wind was the main influence factor of the migration; its impact strength was almost twice as the west and north wind. The south wind has little effect on the migration of the sand cay, which is partly blocked by the artificial structure in the south. 展开更多

Terrain plays a key role in landscape pattern formation, particularly in the transition zones from mountains to plains.Exploring the relationships between terrain characteristics and landscape types in terrain-complex areas can help reveal the mechanisms underlying the relationships. In this study, Qihe River Basin, situated in the transition zone from the Taihang Mountains to the North-China Plain, was selected as a case study area. First, the spatial variations in the relief amplitudes(i.e.,high-amplitude terrain undulations) were analyzed. Second, the effects of relief amplitudes on the landscape patterns were indepth investigated from the perspectives of both landscape types and landscape indices. Finally, a logistic regression model was employed to examine the relationships between the landscape patterns and the influencing factors(natural and human) at different relief amplitudes. The results show that with increasing relief amplitude, anthropogenic landscapes gradually give in to natral landscapes. Specifically, human factors normally dominate the gentle areas(e.g., flat areas) in influencing the distribution of landscape types, and natural factors normally dominate the highly-undulating areas(e.g., moderate relief areas). As for the intermediately undulating areas(i.e.,medium relief amplitudes), a combined influence of natural and human factors result in the highest varieties of landscape types. The results also show that in micro-relief areas and small relief areas where natural factors and human factors are more or less equally active,landscape types are affected by a combination of natural and human factors.The combination leads to a high fragmentation and a high diversity of landscape patterns. It seems that appropriate human interferences in these areas can be conducive to enhancing landscape diversity and that inappropriate human interferences can aggravate the problems of landscape fragmentation. 展开更多

The occurrence of a fault in hot components leads to high economic losses. In general, exhaust gas temperature(EGT) is used to monitor the performance of hot components.However, during the early stages of a failure, the fault information is weak, and is simultaneously affected by various types of interference, such as the complex working conditions, ambient conditions, gradual performance degradation of the compressors and turbines, and noise. Additionally, inadequate effective information of the gas turbine also restricts the establishment of the detection model. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes an anomaly detection method based on frequent pattern extraction. A frequent pattern model(FPM) is applied to indicate the inherent regularity of change in EGT occurring from different types of interference. In this study, based on a genetic algorithm and support vector machine regression, the relationship model between the EGT and interference was tentatively built. The modeling accuracy was then further improved through the selection of the kernel function and training data. Experiments indicate that the optimal kernel function is linear and that the optimal training data should be balanced in addition to covering the appropriate range of operating conditions and ambient temperature. Furthermore, the thresholds based on the Pauta criterion that is automatically obtained during the modeling process, are used to determine whether hot components are operating abnormally. Moreover, the FPM is compared with the similarity theory, which demonstrates that the FPM can better suppress the effect of the component performance degradation and fuel heat value fluctuation. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated on seven months of actual data obtained from a Titan130 gas turbine on an offshore oil platform. The results indicate that the proposed method can sensitively detect malfunctions in hot components during the early stages of a fault, and is robust to various types of interference. 展开更多
