A conceptual analysis of reflective supervision for creating a positive intensive care practice environment

Objectives This study aimed to explore and clarify the concept of reflective supervision as a professional self-care strategy to create a positive Intensive Care Unit(ICU)practice environment.Methods Walker and Avant’s eight-step concept analysis approach was utilized to identify and define the attributes,antecedents,and consequences of reflective supervision in the ICU.An extensive literature search was conducted across various databases,including Google Scholar,CINAHL,PubMed.Articles published from 2005 to 2025 were identified.We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA)2020 statement to indicate the included articles and extract related data based on relevance.Results Forty articles were included in the analysis.The identified attributes included the supervisor-supervisee relationship,effective communication,teamwork,collaborations,reflection,competencies,feedback,continuous support,and autonomous choice.The identified antecedents included participation,supportive supervision,flexibility,open-door policy,training,and motivation.Consequences impacting the success of reflective supervision were identified as promotion of resiliency,autonomy,work-life balance,self-awareness,increased self-esteem,professional development,critical thinking,increased job satisfaction,and enhanced commitment.Conclusions Reflective supervision is a complex professional self-care strategy that enhances ICU practice,by promoting nurses’well-being,self-awareness,therapeutic skills,and professional development. 展开更多

Knowledge-based VisualQuestion Answering(VQA)requires the integration of visual information with external knowledge reasoning.Existing approaches typically retrieve information from external corpora and rely on pretrained language models for reasoning.However,their performance is often hindered by the limited capabilities of retrievers and the constrained size of knowledge bases.Moreover,relying on image captions to bridge the modal gap between visual and language modalities can lead to the omission of critical visual details.To address these limitations,we propose the Reflective Chain-of-Thought(ReCoT)method,a simple yet effective framework inspired by metacognition theory.ReCoT effectively activates the reasoning capabilities ofMultimodal Large LanguageModels(MLLMs),providing essential visual and knowledge cues required to solve complex visual questions.It simulates a metacognitive reasoning process that encompasses monitoring,reflection,and correction.Specifically,in the initial generation stage,an MLLM produces a preliminary answer that serves as the model’s initial cognitive output.During the reflective reasoning stage,this answer is critically examined to generate a reflective rationale that integrates key visual evidence and relevant knowledge.In the final refinement stage,a smaller language model leverages this rationale to revise the initial prediction,resulting in amore accurate final answer.By harnessing the strengths ofMLLMs in visual and knowledge grounding,ReCoT enables smaller language models to reason effectively without dependence on image captions or external knowledge bases.Experimental results demonstrate that ReCoT achieves substantial performance improvements,outperforming state-of-the-art methods by 2.26%on OK-VQA and 5.8%on A-OKVQA. 展开更多

UAV-mounted intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)helps address the line-of-sight(LoS)blockage between sensor nodes(SNs)and the fusion center(FC)in Internet of Things(IoT).This paper considers an IoT assisted by multiple UAVs-mounted IRS(U-IRS),where the data from ground SNs are transmitted to the FC.In practice,energy efficiency(EE)and mission completion time are crucial metrics for evaluating system performance and operational costs.Recognizing their importance during data collection,we formulate a multi-objective optimization problem to maximize EE and minimize total mission completion time simultaneously.To characterize this tradeoff while considering optimization objective consistency,we construct an optimization problem that minimizes the weighted sum of the total mission completion time and the reciprocal of EE.Due to the non-convex nature of the formulated problem,obtaining optimal solutions is generally challenging.To tackle this issue,we decompose it into three subproblems:UAV-SN association,number of reflecting elements allocation,andUAVtrajectory optimization.An iterative algorithmcombining genetic algorithm,CS-BJ algorithm,and successive convex approximation technique is proposed to solve these sub-problems.Simulation results demonstrate that when the transmitted data amount is 10 and 30Mbits,compared to the static collection benchmark(the UAV hovers directly above each SN),the EE of the proposed method improves by more than 10.4% and 5.2%,while the total mission completion time is reduced by more than 5.4% and 3.3%,respectively. 展开更多

Accurate temperature control and effective oxide removal are essential for achieving high-quality epitaxial growth in molecular beam epitaxy(MBE).However,traditional methods often rely on manual identification of reflection high-energy electron diffraction(RHEED)patterns.This process is heavily influenced by the grower’s experience,leading to issues with reproducibility and limiting the potential for automation.In this report,we propose an unsupervised learning framework for realtime RHEED analysis during the deoxidation process.By incorporating temporal similarity constraints into contrastive learning,our model generates smooth and interpretable feature trajectories that illustrate transitions in the deoxidation state,thus eliminating the need for manual labeling.The model,pre-trained using grouped contrastive loss,shows significant improvement in RHEED feature boundary discrimination and localization of critical regions.We evaluated its generalizability through two transfer learning strategies:calibration-free clustering and few-shot fine-tuning.The pre-trained model achieved a clustering accuracy of 88.1%for GaAs deoxidation samples without additional labels and reached an accuracy of 94.3%to 95.5%after fine-tuning with just five sample pairs across GaAs,Ge,and InAs substrates.This framework is optimized for resource-constrained edge devices,allowing for real-time,plug-and-play integration with existing MBE systems and swift adaptation across various materials and equipment.This work paves the way for greater automation and improved reproducibility in semiconductor manufacturing. 展开更多

The integration of the intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer(SWIPT)has emerged as a cost-effective and efficient solution to enhance the performance of information and energy transfer.In this research,a hybrid active/passive IRS-assisted SWIPT system is proposed.Specifically,an active IRS(AIRS)and a passive IRS(PIRS)are deployed in the SWIPT system to facilitate a multiantenna base station(BS)in simultaneously delivering information and energy to multiple information users(IUs)and energy users(EUs).The objective is to maximize the sum throughput by jointly optimizing the transmitter beamforming and the reflection coefficient matrices of the AIRS and the PIRS while satisfying the transmitter power constraints,the energy harvesting(EH)requirements of EUs,and the AIRS amplification power limitations.However,the optimization variables are highly coupled and cannot be solved directly.To tackle this complex problem,we propose an efficient algorithm based on alternating optimization(AO)and semi-definite relaxation(SDR)techniques to obtain high-quality solutions.Simulation results demonstrate that the hybrid active/passive IRSassisted SWIPT system significantly enhances throughput performance and outperforms benchmark systems. 展开更多

This study constructs a reflective feedback model based on a pedagogical agent(PA)and explores its impact on students’problem-solving ability and cognitive load.A quasi-experimental design was used in the study,with 84 students from a middle school selected as the research subjects(44 in the experimental group and 40 in the control group).The experimental group used the reflective feedback model,while the control group used the factual feedback model.The results show that,compared with factual feedback,the reflective feedback model based on the pedagogical agent significantly improves students’problem-solving ability,especially at the action and thinking levels.In addition,this model effectively reduces students’cognitive load,especially in terms of internal and external load. 展开更多

Doping perylene diimide(PDI)into a polymer matrix is a simple strategy to prepare near-infrared(NIR)reflective materials,but the mechanical properties and NIR reflectance properties are significantly compromised due to macro-phase separation.In this study,a novel polymer(denoted as PU-PDI)with intrinsic NIR reflective proper⁃ties was synthesized by covalent incorporation of PDI units into polyurethane chains.Its photophysical characteris⁃tics,mechanical property and NIR reflectance property are investigated in detail.The results show that covalent in⁃corporation reduces the severe aggregation of PDI units,thereby endows PU-PDI with excellent mechanical property.The elongation at break of PU-PDI can reach more than 700%,and the breaking strength is 34.11 MPa.Moreover,compared to the blending system,PU-PDI possesses enhanced NIR reflection ability due to the better dispersion of PDI units. 展开更多

The simultaneous transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface(STAR-RIS)can independently adjust surface’s reflection and transmission coefficients so as to enhance space coverage.For a multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO)communication system with a STAR-RIS,a base station(BS),an eavesdropper,and multiple users,the system security rate is studied.A joint design of the power allocation at the transmitter and phase shift matrices for reflection and transmission at the STAR-RIS is conducted,in order to maximize the worst achievable security data rate(ASDR).Since the problem is nonconvex and hence challenging,a particle swarm optimization(PSO)based algorithm is developed to tackle the problem.Both the cases of continuous and discrete phase shift matrices at the STAR-RIS are considered.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and shows the benefits of using STAR-RIS in MIMO mutliuser systems. 展开更多

We demonstrate a multi-method approach towards discovering and structuring sustainability transition knowl edge in marginalized mountain regions.By employing reflective thinking,artificial intelligence(AI)-powered text summarization and text mining,we synthesize experts’narratives on sustainable development challenges and solutions in Kardüz Upland,Türkiye.We then analyze their alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)using document embedding.Investment in infrastructure,education,and resilient socio-ecological systems emerged as priority sectors to combat poor infrastructure,geographic isolation,climate change,poverty,depopulation,unemployment,low education levels,and inadequate social services.The narratives were closest in substance to SDG 1,3,and 11.Social dimensions of sustainability were more pronounced than environmental dimensions.The presented approach supports policymakers in organizing loosely structured sustainability tran sition knowledge and fragmented data corpora,while also advancing AI applications for designing and planning sustainable development policies at the regional level. 展开更多

High color quality laser-driven white lighting enabled by reflective bicolor phosphor-in-glass film converter

All-inorganic reflective phosphor-in-glass film(PiGF) converter has garnered widespread attentions for high brightness laser-driven white lighting,while its poor color quality and low luminescence stability have been inevitable roadblocks.Herein,the bicolor PiGF containing green-emitting Y3Al3.08Ga1.92O12:Ce3+(YAGG) and red-emitting CaAlSiN_(3):Eu^(2+)(CASN) phosphors bonded on Al2O3substrate was prepared for enabling high color quality laser-driven white lighting in reflective configuration.The bicolor PiGF has high quantum efficiency and good structure stability.By optimizing the CASN content,PiGF thickness and Al_(2)O_(3) content,the reflective bicolor PiGF based white laser diode(LD)displays good luminescence performance with a luminous flux of 451.5 lm and a luminous efficacy of142.3 lm/W and high color quality with a color rendering index(CRI) of 85.3 and a correlated color temperature(CCT) of 5177 K under the incident laser power of 3.15 W,and still has excellent luminescence and color stabilities(CRI and CCT) under the continuous laser excitation of 5.61 W,attributed to the good thermal conductivity and high reflectivity of Al_(2)O_(3) substrate and scattering enhancement effect of Al_(2)O_(3) particles.It can be foreseen that the reflective bicolor PiGF converter provides a promising strategy for enabling high quality laser-driven white lighting. 展开更多

Secure transmission of IRS-UAV buffer-aided relaying system with delay constraint

This paper investigates the secure communication between legitimate users in the presence of eavesdroppers, where the Intelligent Reflective Surface-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (IRS-UAV) and Buffer-Aided (BA) relaying techniques are utilized to enhance secrecy performance. By jointly optimizing the link selection strategy, the UAV position, and the reflection coefficient of the IRS, we aim to maximize the long-term average secrecy rate. Specifically, we propose a novel buffer in/out stabilization scheme based on the Lyapunov framework, which transforms the long-term average secrecy rate maximization problem into two per-slot drift-plus-penalty minimization problems with different link selection factors. The hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization-Artificial Fish Swarm Algorithm (PSO-AFSA) is adopted to optimize the UAV position, and the IRS reflection coefficient optimization problem is solved by iterative optimization in which auxiliary variables and standard convex optimization algorithms are introduced. Finally, the delay constraint is set to ensure the timeliness of information packets. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed scheme outperforms the comparison schemes in terms of average secrecy rate. Specifically, the addition of BA improves the average secrecy rate by 1.37 bps/Hz, and the continued optimizations of IRS reflection coefficients and UAV positions improve the average secrecy rate by 2.46 bps/Hz and 3.75 bps/Hz, respectively. 展开更多

Phosphor-in-glass(PiG)films have emerged as the preferred conversion materials for high-brightness laser-driven lighting due to their excellent thermal conductivity and superior optical performance.Screen printing technology was employed to investigate the correlation between the reflective layer thickness and light conversion efficiency.A multilayer-structured Y_(3)Al_(3.5)Ga_(1.5)O_(12):Ce^(3+)(YAGG:Ce)-PiGTiO_(2)-aluminium nitride(AIN)film(YG-TAF)converter was constructed by efficiently coupling the optimal thickness of the reflective layer with the PiG layer and the AIN substrate.Notably,the YG-TAF shows an impressive thermal conductivity of 22.6 W/(m·K)and a maximum anti-laser power of 15.84 W,demonstrating superb thermal regulation capability.This anti-laser power of 15.84 W represents a breakthrough in current static laser performance research.Impressively,an YG-TAF phosphor color wheel was designed,which achieves an ultra-high-brightness 4375 lm of green light under 450 nm,88 W laser power excitation,close to that of commercial phosphor silicone color wheels.This advancement not only demonstrates the excellent performance of YG-TAF in high-brightness dynamic reflective laser applications but also indicates its strong feasibility for practical implementation.Furthermore,the developed YAGG:Ce-Y_(1.31)Ce_(0.09)Gd_(1.6)Al_5O_(12)-TAF spliced phosphor color wheel successfully mitigates the influence of photon reabsorption and achieves a color rendering index of 80.5,showing great potential for advancement of the field of reflective white light laser illumination. 展开更多

In this paper,a dual-polarized antenna operating at 3.5 GHz is presented with 2D beam-scanning performance.The steerable beam is realized based on a 2×2 active reflective metasurface.The active metasurface is composed of folded annular rings and cross dipoles embedded with voltage-controlled varactor diodes.By tuning the capacitance values of the varactors,the reflective phase of the metasurface is reconfigured to tilt the main beam.To verify the scanning performance,a prototype is fabricated and measured.At 3.5 GHz,the measured scanning ranges are from-25°to 29°and-27°to 29°in the XOZ and YOZ planes,respectively. 展开更多

The performance of traditional regular Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS)improves as the number of IRS elements increases,but more reflecting elements lead to higher IRS power consumption and greater overhead of channel estimation.The Irregular Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IIRS)can enhance the performance of the IRS as well as boost the system performance when the number of reflecting elements is limited.However,due to the lack of radio frequency chain in IRS,it is challenging for the Base Station(BS)to gather perfect Channel State Information(CSI),especially in the presence of Eavesdroppers(Eves).Therefore,in this paper we investigate the minimum transmit power problem of IIRS-aided Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer(SWIPT)secure communication system with imperfect CSI of BS-IIRS-Eves links,which is subject to the rate outage probability constraints of the Eves,the minimum rate constraints of the Information Receivers(IRs),the energy harvesting constraints of the Energy Receivers(ERs),and the topology matrix constraints.Afterward,the formulated nonconvex problem can be efficiently tackled by employing joint optimization algorithm combined with successive refinement method and adaptive topology design method.Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme and the superiority of IIRS. 展开更多

Digital content such as games,extended reality(XR),and movies has been widely and easily distributed over wireless networks.As a result,unauthorized access,copyright infringement by third parties or eavesdroppers,and cyberattacks over these networks have become pressing concerns.Therefore,protecting copyrighted content and preventing illegal distribution in wireless communications has garnered significant attention.The Intelligent Reflecting Surface(IRS)is regarded as a promising technology for future wireless and mobile networks due to its ability to reconfigure the radio propagation environment.This study investigates the security performance of an uplink Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access(NOMA)system integrated with an IRS and employing Fountain Codes(FCs).Specifically,two users send signals to the base station at separate distances.A relay receives the signal from the nearby user first and then relays it to the base station.The IRS receives the signal from the distant user and reflects it to the relay,which then sends the reflected signal to the base station.Furthermore,a malevolent eavesdropper intercepts both user and relay communications.We construct mathematical equations for Outage Probability(OP),throughput,diversity evaluation,and Interception Probability(IP),offering quantitative insights to assess system security and performance.Additionally,OP and IP are analyzed using a Deep Neural Network(DNN)model.A deeper comprehension of the security performance of the IRS-assisted NOMA systemin signal transmission is provided by Monte Carlo simulations,which are also carried out to confirm the theoretical conclusions. 展开更多
