The study done in this paper brings out the effect of the viscoelasticity on the reflection/transmission coefficients. The knowledge of this effect can be useful for several applications, such as enhancing the resolution of the seismic sections, fluid and fracture detection. It can also have other applications different from the geophysical domain, as the study of the bonding between the materials in the civil engineering domain. We use the complex Lame coefficients in the continuity equations at the boundary layers to get the analytical expressions of the reflection/transmission coefficients in viscoelastic media. The coefficients can be divided into two parts, the first part is independent from the quality factor, and it corresponds to the elastic reflection/transmission coefficients. The second part is dependent on the quality factor contrast and it represents the contribution of the viscoelasticity on the reflection/transmission coefficients. From the numerical study it appears that the effect of the viscoelasticity is significant near to the critical angles. This effect is not clear and it is difficult to interpret and we do not know if it has a physical meaning or it is only a mathematical artifact that is why it is better to be far from the critical angles for seismic investigation. 展开更多

The reflection and transmission of elastic waves through a couple-stress elastic slab that is sandwiched between two couple-stress elastic half-spaces are studied in this paper. Because of the couple-stress effects, there are three types of elastic waves in the couple-stress elastic solid, two of which are dispersive. The interface conditions between two couple-stress solids involve the surface couple and rotation apart from the surface traction and displacement. The nontraditional interface conditions between the slab and two solid half-spaces are used to obtain the linear algebraic equation sets from which the amplitude ratios of reflection and transmission waves to the incident wave can be determined. Then, the energy fluxes carried by the various reflection and transmission waves are calculated numerically and the normal energy flux conservation is used to validate the numerical results. The special case, couple-stress elastic slab sandwiched by the classical elastic half-spaces, is also studied and compared with the situation that the classical elastic slab sandwiched by the classical elastic half-spaces. Incident longitudinal wave(P wave) and incident transverse wave(SV wave) are both considered. The influences of the couplestress are mainly discussed based on the numerical results. It is found that the couple-stress mainly influences the transverse modes of elastic waves. 展开更多

For the boundary between transversely isotropic media with a vertical axis of symmetry (VTI media), the interface between a liquid and a VTI medium, and the free-surface of an elastic half-space of a VTI medium, an accurately fast algorithm was presented for calculating reflection/transmission (R/T) coefficients. Specially, the case of post-critical angle incidence was considered. Although we only performed the numerical calculation for the models of the VTI media, the calculated results can be extended to the models of transversely isotropic media with a horizontal axis of rotation symmetry (HTI media). Compared to previous work, this algorithm can be used not only for the calculation of R/T coefficients of the boundary between ellipsoidally anisotropic media, but also for that between generally anisotropic media, and the speed and accuracy of this algorithm are faster and higher. According to the anisotropic parameters of some rocks given by the published literature, we performed the calculation of R/T coefficients by using this algorithm and analyzed the effect of the rock anisotropy on R/T coefficients. We used Snell's law and the energy balance principle to perform verification for the calculated results. 展开更多

Electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding materials with superior shielding efficiency and low-reflection properties hold promising potential for utilization across electronic components, precision instruments, and fifth-generation communication equipment. In this study, multistage microcellular waterborne polyurethane(WPU)composites were constructed via gradient induction,layer-by-layer casting, and supercritical carbon dioxide foaming. The gradient-structured WPU/ironcobalt loaded reduced graphene oxide(FeCo@rGO)foam serves as an impedance-matched absorption layer, while the highly conductive WPU/silver loaded glass microspheres(Ag@GM)layer is employed as a reflection layer. Thanks to the incorporation of an asymmetric structure,as well as the introduction of gradient and porous configurations, the composite foam demonstrates excellent conductivity, outstanding EMI SE(74.9 dB),and minimal reflection characteristics(35.28%)in 8.2-12.4 GHz,implying that more than 99.99999%of electromagnetic(EM)waves were blocked and only 35.28%were reflected to the external environment.Interestingly, the reflectivity of the composite foam is reduced to 0.41%at 10.88 GHz due to the resonance for incident and reflected EM waves.Beyond that, the composite foam is characterized by low density(0.47 g/cm^(3))and great stability of EMI shielding properties. This work offers a viable approach for craft-ing lightweight, highly shielding, and minimally reflective EMI shielding composites. 展开更多

To maintain the reliability of power systems, routine inspections using drones equipped with advanced object detection algorithms are essential for preempting power-related issues. The increasing resolution of drone-captured images has posed a challenge for traditional target detection methods, especially in identifying small objects in high-resolution images. This study presents an enhanced object detection algorithm based on the Faster Regionbased Convolutional Neural Network(Faster R-CNN)framework,specifically tailored for detecting small-scale electrical components like insulators, shock hammers, and screws in transmission line. The algorithm features an improved backbone network for Faster R-CNN,which significantly boosts the feature extraction network’s ability to detect fine details. The Region Proposal Network is optimized using a method of guided feature refinement(GFR),which achieves a balance between accuracy and speed. The incorporation of Generalized Intersection over Union(GIOU)and Region of Interest(ROI)Align further refines themodel’s accuracy.Experimental results demonstrate a notable improvement in mean Average Precision, reaching 89.3%,an 11.1%increase compared to the standard Faster R-CNN.This highlights the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in identifying electrical components in high-resolution aerial images. 展开更多

High-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)promises rapid atomic-scale dynamic structure imaging.Yet,the precision limitations of aberration parameters and the challenge of eliminating aberrations in Cs-corrected transmission electron microscopy constrain resolution.A machine learning algorithm is developed to determine the aberration parameters with higher precision from small,lattice-periodic crystal images. The proposed algorithm is then validated with simulated HRTEM images of graphene and applied to the experimental images of a molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))monolayer with 25 variables(14 aberrations)resolved in wide ranges.Using these measured parameters, the phases of the exit-wave functions are reconstructed for each image in a focal series of MoS_(2)monolayers.The images were acquired due to the unexpected movement of the specimen holder.Four-dimensional data extraction reveals time-varying atomic structures and ripple. In particular, the atomic evolution of the sulfur-vacancy point and line defects,as well as the edge structure near the amorphous,is visualized as the resolution has been improved from about 1.75?to 0.9 A.This method can help salvage important transmission electron microscope images and is beneficial for the images obtained from electron microscopes with average stability. 展开更多

Zika virus(ZIKV)is a mosquito-borne virus belonging to the genus Orthoflavivirus, and the family Flaviviridae. It commonly presents with febrile-like symptoms, neurological issues, and pregnancy complications in humans.Currently, there is no commercial vaccine or specific treatment available to prevent ZIKV infection. Therefore, controlling the epidemic's spread relies on preventing mosquitoes from transmitting the virus.Although various studies have explored the transmission of ZIKV between mosquitoes and vertebrate hosts, comprehensive research on potential mosquito-to-mosquito transmission of ZIKV remains limited. In this study,we conducted systematic laboratory investigations to assess the ability of ZIKV to spread among mosquitoes, and to evaluate the impact of ZIKV infection on mosquito development. Our findings revealed that ZIKV can be transmitted between Aedes aegypti mosquitoes both vertically and horizontally, through oviposition and contact between mosquitoes of the same or opposite sex.Additionally,we observed that ZIKV infection resulted in a reduction in the number of mosquito eggs but an increase in their size. The widespread distribution of ZIKV in infected mosquitoes and the altered levels of hormone related genes following viral infection were noted, which may contribute to viral transmission among mosquitoes and affect mosquito development. This research provides systematic experimental evidence of ZIKV transmission among mosquitoes, which is crucial for developing novel strategies to disrupt the spread of orthoflaviviruses and other mosquitoborne pathogens. 展开更多

This study investigates inductively coupled transmission technology using seawater and underwater anchor chains as the transmission medium for real-time data transfer from underwater measurement instruments.Because of the physical properties of seawater, challenges, such as frequency selective fading and multipath effect, limit long-distance current signal transmission.Conventional modulation techniques, such as amplitude shift keying(ASK)and differential phase shift keying(DPSK),are constrained by low bandwidth utilization and high bit error rates(BER).To address these issues,we optimize the seawater channel model using data from the National Oceanographic Data Center and previous measurements, analyzing the relationship between seawater conductivity, depth, and signal frequency. We constructed an experimental platform using a six-winding manganese-zinc ferrite ring based on an inductive coupling model for data transmission.A steel cable is anchored at both ends of a seawater bucket through two rings, exposing the cable core to establish a closed loop in seawater. An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)algorithm is used to improve transmission performance by distributing data across multiple subcarriers, effectively mitigating multipath fading and frequency selective fading.Compared with ASK and DPSK,this method significantly reduces the BER and improves the channel capacity, exhibiting robustness in underwater communication. Finally,in our study,a mathematical model of the underwater multipath channel for distances of 300,1000,and 2000 m is established, showing an improvement in channel capacity of approximately 2.5 bps/Hz based on the OFDM algorithm. This advancement is essential for enhancing the performance of underwater signal transmission and supporting its practical application. 展开更多

The global rise in energy demand, particularly in remote and sparsely populated regions, necessitates innovative and cost-effective electrical distribution solutions. Traditional Rural Electrification (RE) methods, like Conventional Rural Electrification (CRE), have proven economically unfeasible in such areas due to high infrastructure costs and low electricity demand. Consequently, Unconventional Rural Electrification (URE) technologies, such as Capacitor Coupled Substations (CCS), are gaining attention as viable alternatives. This study presents the design and simulation of an 80 kW CCS system, which taps power directly from a 132 kV transmission line to supply low-voltage consumers. The critical components of the CCS, the capacitors are calculated, then a MATLAB/Simulink model with the attained results is executed. Mathematical representation and state-space representation for maintaining the desired tapped voltage area also developed. The research further explores the feasibility and operational performance of this CCS configuration, aiming to address the challenges of rural electrification by offering a sustainable and scalable solution. The results show that the desired value of the tapped voltage can be achieved at any level of High Voltage (HV) with the selection of capacitors that are correctly rated. With an adequately designed control strategy, the research also shows that tapped voltage can be attained under both steady-state and dynamic loads. By leveraging CCS technology, the study demonstrates the potential for delivering reliable electricity to underserved areas, highlighting the system’s practicality and effectiveness in overcoming the limitations of conventional distribution methods. 展开更多

Semantic Communication(SemCom)can significantly reduce the transmitted data volume and keep robustness.Task-oriented SemCom of images aims to convey the implicit meaning of source messages correctly, rather than achieving precise bit-by-bit reconstruction.Existing image SemCom systems directly perform semantic encoding and decoding on the entire image, which has not considered the correlation between image content and downstream tasks or the adaptability to channel noise. To this end,we propose a content-aware robust SemCom framework for image transmission based on Generative Adversarial Networks(GANs).Specifically, the accurate semantics of the image are extracted by the semantic encoder, and divided into two parts for different downstream tasks:Regions of Interest(ROI)and Regions of Non-Interest(RONI).By reducing the quantization accuracy of RONI,the amount of transmitted data volume is reduced significantly.During the transmission process of semantics,a Signal-to-Noise Ratio(SNR)is randomly initialized, enabling the model to learn the average noise distribution. The experimental results demonstrate that by reducing the quantization level of RONI,transmitted data volume is reduced up to 60.53%compared to using globally consistent quantization while maintaining comparable performance to existing methods in downstream semantic segmentation tasks. Moreover, our model exhibits increased robustness with variable SNRs. 展开更多

Global challenges like epidemics, wars, and climate change expose humans to life-and-death threats daily, triggering death anxiety and subsequent death reflection, which involves deliberate cognitive processing of mortality. While some studies have shown the positive impacts of death reflection, such as on well-being,the relationship between death reflection and existential well-being,closely related to life and death, remains unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the effects of death reflection on existential well-being and the mediating role of relational self-esteem.675 university students from Sichuan and Hubei,China, completed the death reflection scale, relational self-esteem scale, and the existential well-being subscale of the spiritual well-being scale. Results indicated that death reflection was positively correlated with both relational self-esteem and existential well-being,and relational self-esteem was positively related to existential well-being.Mediation analysis confirmed that relational self-esteem mediated the relationship between death reflection and existential well-being.This study not only enriches the research content on the positive effects of death reflection theoretically, but also holds significant practical value in guiding individuals who have experienced death or been exposed to death-related information in their psychological reconstruction and recovery. 展开更多

Wireless energy transmission technology through the transmitter will be converted into microwave, laser or electromagnetic field and other energy carriers to realize the transmission of space, and the receiver will be captured back to the energy conversion of electrical energy, the whole process can be completed without physical contact energy transfer. The core mechanism is to build the energy coupling channel of the transmitter-receiver system, and realize the spatial power transmission through electromagnetic field interaction. In the electromagnetic induction coupled transmission system, the industrial frequency alternating current is converted into direct current by rectification and filtering, and then converted into high-frequency alternating current by high-frequency inverter. This current excites the primary side transmitting winding to generate a time-varying magnetic field, and through magnetic coupling in the secondary side receiving winding inductance electromotive force, and ultimately through the high-frequency rectifier and power regulation circuit to the load power supply. The essence of the process is to establish a transceiver double-ended resonant network, through the magnetic field resonance to achieve efficient energy exchange, and its transmission characteristics follow the laws of electromagnetic induction and the circuit resonance principle of double constraints. 展开更多

In the last decade, space solar power satellites(SSPSs)have been conceived to support net-zero carbon emissions and have attracted considerable attention.Electric energy is transmitted to the ground via a microwave power beam,a technology known as microwave power transmission(MPT).Due to the vast transmission distance of tens of thousands of kilometers, the power transmitting antenna array must span up to 1 kilometer in diameter. At the same time, the size of the rectifying array on the ground should extend over a few kilometers. This makes the MPT system of SSPSs significantly larger than the existing aerospace engineering system. To design and operate a rational MPT system, comprehensive optimization is required.Taking the space MPT system engineering into consideration,a novel multi-objective optimization function is proposed and further analyzed. The multi-objective optimization problem is modeled mathematically.Beam collection efficiency(BCE)is the primary factor, followed by the thermal management capability. Some tapers, designed to solve the conflict between BCE and the thermal problem, are reviewed. In addition to these two factors, rectenna design complexity is included as a functional factor in the optimization objective.Weight coefficients are assigned to these factors to prioritize them.Radiating planar arrays with different aperture illumination fields are studied, and their performances are compared using the multi-objective optimization function.Transmitting array size, rectifying array size, transmission distance, and transmitted power remaine constant in various cases, ensuring fair comparisons. The analysis results show that the proposed optimization function is effective in optimizing and selecting the MPT system architecture. It is also noted that the multi-objective optimization function can be expanded to include other factors in the future. 展开更多

Waveform generation and digitization play essential roles in numerous physics experiments. In traditional distributed systems for large-scale experiments, each frontend node contains an FPGA for data preprocessing, which interfaces with various data converters and exchanges data with a backend central processor. However, the streaming readout architecture has become a new paradigm for several experiments benefiting from advancements in data transmission and computing technologies. This paper proposes a scalable distributed waveform generation and digitization system that utilizes fiber optical connections for data transmission between frontend nodes and a central processor.By utilizing transparent transmission on top of the data link layer, the clock and data ports of the converters in the frontend nodes are directly mapped to the FPGA firmware at the backend. This streaming readout architecture reduces the complexity of frontend development and maintains the data conversion in proximity to the detector. Each frontend node uses a local clock for waveform digitization. To translate the timing information of events in each channel into the system clock domain within the backend central processing FPGA,a novel method is proposed and evaluated using a demonstrator system. 展开更多
