The aim of this research is to develop an algorithm and application that can perform real-time monitoring of the safety operation of offshore platforms and subsea gas pipelines as well as determine the need for ship inspection using data obtained from automatic identification system(AIS).The research also focuses on the integration of shipping database,AIS data,and others to develop a prototype for designing a real-time monitoring system of offshore platforms and pipelines.A simple concept is used in the development of this prototype,which is achieved by using an overlaying map that outlines the coordinates of the offshore platform and subsea gas pipeline with the ship’s coordinates(longitude/latitude)as detected by AIS.Using such information,we can then build an early warning system(EWS)relayed through short message service(SMS),email,or other means when the ship enters the restricted and exclusion zone of platforms and pipelines.The ship inspection system is developed by combining several attributes.Then,decision analysis software is employed to prioritize the vessel’s four attributes,including ship age,ship type,classification,and flag state.Results show that the EWS can increase the safety level of offshore platforms and pipelines,as well as the efficient use of patrol boats in monitoring the safety of the facilities.Meanwhile,ship inspection enables the port to prioritize the ship to be inspected in accordance with the priority ranking inspection score. 展开更多

Because of the complex nature of the changes in the current and movement of the riverbeds by bridge scouring, it is impossible to understand or predict these changes. In order to have a reliable data, it is critical to have the current methods and equipment for measuring bridge scouring replaced with technology that could acquire real-time bridge scouring data. Despite the critical need for real-time data acquisition, the harsh environmental conditions have prevented the scientific community from acquiring real-time data. Harsh environmental conditions were addressed by the developmental of an automated, remote data collection system, allowing real-time data such as scour movement, scour depth, and scour trend to be viewed in a safe location. As a result, accurate sea-floor movements were seen for the first time, aiding the direction and future of bridge scour research, ultimately contributing greatly to the safety of bridges. 展开更多

Real time rainfall events monitoring is very important for a large number of reasons: Civil Protection, hydrogeological risk management, hydroelectric power purposes, road and traffic regulation, and tourism. Efficient monitoring operations need continuous, high-resolution and large-coverage data. To monitor and observe extreme rainfall events, often much localized over small basins of interest, and that could frequently causing flash floods, an unrealistic extremely dense rain gauge network should be needed. On the other hand, common large C-band or S-band long range radars do not provide the necessary spatial and temporal resolution. Simple short-range X-band mini weather radar can be a valid compromise solution. The present work shows how a single polarization, non-Doppler and non-coherent, simple and low cost X-band radar allowed monitoring three very intense rainfall events occurred near Turin during July 2014. The events, which caused damages and floods, are detected and monitored in real time with a sample rate of 1 minute and a radial spatial resolution of 60 m, thus allowing to describe the intensity of the precipitation on each small portion of territory. This information could be very useful if used by authorities in charge of Civil Protection in order to avoid inconvenience to people and to monitor dangerous situations. 展开更多

Therefore, in order to avoid the real-time monitoring technology of the mine, the relevant designers integrate a 3D video fusion method, which fuses the video picture with the scene model in the mine. On the basis of the specific feature of the power supply network of an FMS, real time monitoring system of the power supply network and the fault diagnostic expert system for the power equipment have been designed. This system can diagnose not only definite fault phenomena, but also fuzzy, uncertain fault phenomena as well. Fault diagnostic knowledge base for the power equipment has been founded hierarchy architecture model and the method of fault tree analysis. The growing demand for seafood safety necessitates smart sensors with real-time monitoring capability for the biomarker triethylamine(TEA).However,it still faces tremendous challenges due to the limited sensitivity and selectivity of the sensing material.This study develops a topological transformation from a Ru-MIL-68 precursor to a Ru-doped In_(2)O_(3)hollow hexagonal prism.These structural merits,including hierarchical porosity,uniform Ru dispersion,and abundant oxygen vacancies,endow this material with enhanced gas adsorption-diffusion kinetics and surface reactivity.The optimized Ru-In_(2)O_(3)-0.8 sensor exhibits exceptional TEA sensing performance:ultrahigh response(R_(a)/R_(g)=493-100 ppm),fast recovery(τ_(rec)=22 s),and a low detection limit(LOD=11.3 ppb).Density functional theory calculations delineate that TEA binds preferentially to the Ru-In_(2)O_(3)surface with a much larger adsorption energy than that of TEA on bare In_(2)O_(3)or other gas molecules on Ru-In_(2)O_(3),supporting the enhanced sensitivity and selectivity achieved by introducing Ru.Furthermore,a smart gas sensing system based on the Ru-In_(2)O_(3)-0.8 material demonstrates a real-time half-fin anchovy freshness monitoring application on mobile phones.This work not only proposes the structural modulations for exploration of advanced sensing materials but also guides the potential for real-time analysis,monitoring and diagnosis. 展开更多

In the context of this work,a prototype hybrid photoacoustic(PA)and optical system for the on-line monitoring of laser cleaning procedures is presented.The developed apparatus has enabled the detection of MHz frequency range acoustic waves generated during the laser ablation process.The intrinsically generated PA signals combined with high resolution optical images provide the opportunity to follow the cleaning process accurately and in real time.Technical mock-ups have been used to demonstrate the potential of this novel technique with emphasis given to applications that refer to the restoration of Cultural Heritage(CH)surfaces.Towards this purpose,the real time monitoring of the laser assisted removal of unwanted encrustation from stonework has been achieved using IR and UV wavelengths.This novel approach has allowed for the precise determination of the critical number of laser pulses required for the elimination of the encrustation layer,while highlighting the dominant ablation mechanisms according to the irradiation wavelength.The promising results obtained using the prototype hybrid PA and optical system can open up new perspectives in the monitoring of laser cleaning interventions,promoting an improved restoration outcome. 展开更多
