This study explores the integration path of ideological and political education in the course Design Thinking and Expression of environmental art design,aiming to enhance students’innovative thinking,social responsib...This study explores the integration path of ideological and political education in the course Design Thinking and Expression of environmental art design,aiming to enhance students’innovative thinking,social responsibility,and awareness of sustainable development.Based on the core philosophy of design thinking(people-oriented,problem-solving,and interdisciplinary collaboration)and the elements of ideological and political education in courses(moral education,cultural confidence,sustainable development,and social equity),the study proposes implementation paths for optimizing course objectives,adjusting course content,innovating teaching methods,and optimizing the evaluation system.Through project-based learning,situational teaching,and interdisciplinary collaboration,combined with practical cases such as historical district renewal,environmental design for rural revitalization,and green commercial space design,it has been verified that the effective integration of ideological and political elements in courses can enhance students’cultural identity,sense of social responsibility,and design innovation ability.This study provides theoretical support and practical demonstration for the ideological and political reform of environmental art design courses.In the future,interdisciplinary collaboration can be further deepened,social practice applications can be expanded,the evaluation system can be improved,and the systematic development of ideological and political courses can be promoted.展开更多
The present study explores the importance of developing metaphorical thinking skills in students within the framework of English as a Foreign Language(EFL)reading courses at the tertiary educational level.Metaphorical...The present study explores the importance of developing metaphorical thinking skills in students within the framework of English as a Foreign Language(EFL)reading courses at the tertiary educational level.Metaphorical thinking is viewed as the ability to envisage the world figuratively,perceive associatively,and express oneself creatively.It is crucial to recognize metaphors in texts,interpret the complex images they evoke,and generate new metaphors.It is especially needful in the current era of clip thinking and fragmented information processing when students often approach content superficially rather than comprehensively,leading to decreased cognitive activity and a diminished capacity to understand literature.To foster metaphorical thinking,the paper suggests building a text associative-semantic field focusing on metaphors.Due to its hierarchical structure,which can be envisioned as a dense nucleus surrounded by a central region of synonyms and further enveloped by a periphery of more loosely associated linguistic units,the text associative-semantic field is seen as a potent solution for facilitating improved visualization and more holistic comprehension of information,allowing students for expanding their vocabulary and strengthening associative connections.Notably,the study highlights analyzing the metaphors of emotional states as they contribute significantly to a more profound interpretation of the text,understanding the writer’s unique style,deepening the students’engagement with the book,and expanding their emotional experiences.展开更多

To improve students' critical thinking is considered as a top priority by a growing number of educators.While there exists a comparable amount of research examining students' critical thinking skills,less is k...To improve students' critical thinking is considered as a top priority by a growing number of educators.While there exists a comparable amount of research examining students' critical thinking skills,less is known about students' tendency to use these skills.Specifically,little is known about what influence critical thinking disposition has on students' academic achievement.English reading comprehension,which has been an important composition in students' English achievement,may be an important factor in developing this disposition.The current study examined the characteristics of students' critical thinking disposition and their English reading comprehension as well as exploring the correlation between the two factors mentioned above.The current study involved in 125 sophomores in English major from Jiangsu province.The results indicated that students in current research performed best in Maturity (M=37.46,SD=3.57),followed by Inquisitiveness (M=36.64,SD=4.31),Analyticity (M=34.86,SD=3.70),Truthseeking (M=33.86,SD=4.08).In contrast,they performed worst in CT Confidence (M=33.17,SD=4.57),followed by Systematicity (M=33.49,SD=5.10) and Open-mindedness (M=33.50,SD=3.67).Students scored highest in Attitude and View Category as the mean was 0.8257,followed by Reasoning and Judgment Category (M=0.8128),Induction and Generalization Category (M=0.7612),Theme Topic Category (M=0.6844),Semantic Comprehension Category (M=0.6789),while scored lowest in Fact and Detail Category (M=0.5818).There existed a positive correlation between critical thinking disposition and reading comprehension achievement (n=109;r=0.300;p<0.01).展开更多

However, cognitive progress is seldom targeted in classroom teaching. This study proposed a teaching method of three reading phases in terms of cognitive mechanism and communicative teaching approach.Ninety university freshmen of non-English major participated in the study, who were taking the course of Academic English Reading in the 2nd semester. The data were collected from self-report Research Skills Assessment twice and semi-structured interview, and analyzed with paired sample t test and Pearson correlation. The results showed that 1) “critical thinking”, “organizing ideas”, and “finding information” were believed to improve significantly at the end of the course; 2) reading skill was associated with writing skill and the sense of “big picture” in self perception; 3) the cognition-based interactive reading instruction was acknowledged to be conducive to academic reading. It complements Academic English reading pedagogy by juxtaposing the need for both individual cognition and group interaction in classroom teaching.展开更多
