However VLC methods are very sensitive to channel noise. The goal of this paper is to salvage as many data from the damaged packets as possible for higher audiovisual quality. This paper proposes an integrated joint source-channel decoder (I-JSCD) at a symbol-level using three-dimensional (3-D) trellis representation for first-order Markov sources encoded with VLC source code and convolutional channel code. This method combines source code and channel code state-spaces and bit-lengths to construct a two-dimensional (2-D) state-space, and then develops a 3-D trellis and a maximum a-posterior (MAP) algorithm to estimate the source sequence symbol by symbol. Experiment results demonstrate that our method results in significant improvement in decoding performance, it can salvage at least half of (50%) data in any channel error rate, and can provide additional error resilience to VLC stream like image, audio, video stream over high error rate links.展开更多

Random network coding has gained popularity over the years by combining the received packet randomly before forwarding them, resulting in a complex Jordan Gaussian Elimination (JGE) decoding process. The effectiveness of random NC is through cooperation among nodes. In this paper, we propose a simple, low-complexity cooperative protocol that exploits NC in a deterministic manner resulting in improved diversity, data rate, and less complex JGE decoding process. The proposed system is applied over a lossy wireless network. The scenario under investigation is as follows: M users must send their information to a common destination D and to exchange the information between each others, over erasure channels;typically the channels between the users and the destination are worse than the channels between users. It is possible to significantly reduce the traffic among users and destination, achieving significant bandwidth savings, by combining packets from different users in simple, deterministic ways without resorting to extensive header information before being forwarded to the destination and the M users. The key problem we try to address is how to efficiently combine the packets at each user while exploiting user cooperation and the probability of successfully recovering information from all users at D with k < 2M unique linear equations, accounting for the fact that the remaining packets will be lost in the network and there are two transmission stages. Simulation results show the behaviour for two and three transmission stages. Our results show that applying NC protocols in two or three stages decreases the traffic significantly, beside the fact that the proposed protocols enable the system to retrieve the lost packets rather than asking for ARQ, resulting in improved data flow, and less power consumption. In fact, in some protocols the ARQ dropped from the rate 10ˉ1 to 10ˉ4, because of the proposed combining algorithm that enables the nodes to generate additional unique linear equations to broadcast rather than repeating the same ones via ARQ. Moreover, the number of the transmitted packets in each cooperative stage dropped from M (M - 1) to just M packets, resulting to 2 M packets instead 2 (M2 - 1) when three stages of transmission system are used instead of one stage (two cooperative stages).展开更多

Since physical-layer network coding is applied, two time slots are sufficient for one round information exchange. Simulation results show that the new DF scheme considerably outperforms other common schemes in three-way relay fading channels.展开更多

The main idea is to split the check matrix into several row blocks, then to perform the improved mes- sage passing computations sequentially block by block. As the decoding algorithm improves, the sequential tie between the two-phase computations is broken, so that the two-phase computations can be overlapped which bring in high HUE. Two over- lapping schemes are also presented, each of which suits a different situation. In addition, an efficient memory arrangement scheme is proposed to reduce the great memory block requirement of the LDPC decoder. As an example, for the 0.4 rate LDPC code selected from Chinese Digital TV Terrestrial Broadcasting (DTTB), our decoding saves over 80% memory blocks com- pared with the conventional decoding, and the decoder achieves 0.97 HUE. Finally, the 0.4 rate LDPC decoder is implemented on an FPGA device EP2S30 (speed grade -5). Using 8 row processing units, the decoder can achieve a maximum net throughput of 28.5 Mbps at 20 iterations.展开更多

文摘Deep learning-based semantic communication has achieved remarkable progress with CNNs and Transformers. However,CNNs exhibit constrained performance in high-resolution image transmission, while Transformers incur high computational cost due to quadratic complexity.Recently,VMamba,a novel state space model with linear complexity and exceptional long-range dependency modeling capabilities, has shown great potential in computer vision tasks.Inspired by this,we propose MNTSCC,an efficient VMamba-based nonlinear joint source-channel coding(JSCC)model for wireless image transmission.Specifically,MNTSCC comprises a VMamba-based nonlinear transform module,an MCAM entropy model, and a JSCC module. In the encoding stage, the input image is first encoded into a latent representation via the nonlinear transformation module, which is then processed by the MCAM for source distribution modeling. The JSCC module then optimizes transmission efficiency by adaptively assigning transmission rate to the latent representation according to the estimated entropy values. The proposedMCAMenhances the channel-wise autoregressive entropy model with attention mechanisms, which enables the entropy model to effectively capture both global and local information within latent features, thereby enabling more accurate entropy estimation and improved rate-distortion performance.Additionally,to further enhance the robustness of the system under varying signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)conditions,we incorporate SNR adaptive net(SAnet)into the JSCCmodule, which dynamically adjusts the encoding strategy by integrating SNRinformationwith latent features, thereby improving SNR adaptability.Experimental results across diverse resolution datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves superior image transmission performance compared to existing CNN-and Transformer-based semantic communication models, while maintaining competitive computational efficiency. In particular, under an Additive White Gaussian Noise(AWGN)channel with SNR=10 dB and a channel bandwidth ratio(CBR)of 1/16,MNTSCC consistently outperforms NTSCC,achieving a 1.72 dB Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio(PSNR)gain on the Kodak24 dataset,0.79 dB on CLIC2022,and 2.54 dB on CIFAR-10,while reducing computational cost by 32.23%.The code is available at https://github.com/WanChen10/MNTSCC(accessed on 09 July 2025).

文摘Network coding (NC), introduced at the turn of the century, enables nodes in a network to combine data algebraically before either sending or forwarding them. Moreover, the number of the transmitted packets in each cooperative stage dropped from M (M - 1) to just M packets, resulting to 2 M packets instead 2 (M2 - 1) when three stages of transmission system are used instead of one stage (two cooperative stages).

文摘In this paper a low-density pairwise check(LDPC) coded three-way relay system is considered, where three user nodes desire to exchange messages with the help of one relay node. Since physical-layer network coding is applied, two time slots are sufficient for one round information exchange. In this paper, we present a decode-and-forward(DF) scheme based on joint LDPC decoding for three-way relay channels, where relay decoder partially decodes the network code rather than fully decodes all the user messages. Simulation results show that the new DF scheme considerably outperforms other common schemes in three-way relay fading channels.

文摘This paper presents a simple yet effective decoding for general quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes, which not only achieves high hardware utility efficiency (HUE), but also brings about great memory block reduction without any performance degradation. Using 8 row processing units, the decoder can achieve a maximum net throughput of 28.5 Mbps at 20 iterations.
文摘This paper proposes an adaptive joint source and channel coding scheme for H.264 video multicast over wireless LAN which takes into account the user topology changes and varying channel conditions of multiple users, and dynamically allocates available bandwidth between source coding and channel coding, with the goal to optimize the overall system performance. In particular, source resilience and error correction are considered jointly in the scheme to achieve the optimal performance. And a channel estimation algorithm based on the average packet loss rate and the variance of packet loss rate is proposed also. Two overall performance criteria for video multicast are investigated and experimental results are presented to show the improvement obtained by the scheme.
文摘A simple channel estimator for space-time coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in rapid fading channels is proposed. The channels at the training bauds are estimated using the EM (expectation-maximization) algorithm, while the channels at the data bauds are estimated based on the method for modelling the time-varying channel as the linear combination of several time-invariant " Doppler channels". Computer simulations showed that this estimator outperforms the decision-directed tracking in rapid fading channels and that the performance of this method can be improved by iteration.

文摘We study the performances of quantum channel adaptive [4,1] code transmitting in a joint amplitude damping and dephasing channel, the [6,2] code transmitting in an amplitude damping channel by combining the encoding, noise process, and decoding as one effective channel. We explicitly obtain the entanglement fidelities. The recovery operators of the [6,2] code are given. The performance is nearly optimal compared with that of the optimal method of semidefinite programming.

文摘A novel Joint Source and Channel Decoding (JSCD) scheme for Variable Length Codes (VLCs) concatenated with turbo codes utilizing a new super-trellis decoding algorithm is presented in this letter. The basic idea of our decoding algorithm is that source a priori information with the form of bit transition probabilities corresponding to the VLC tree can be derived directly from sub-state transitions in new composite-state represented super-trellis. A Maximum Likelihood (ML) decoding algorithm for VLC sequence estimations based on the proposed super-trellis is also described. Simu-lation results show that the new iterative decoding scheme can obtain obvious encoding gain especially for Reversible Variable Length Codes (RVLCs),when compared with the classical separated turbo decoding and the previous joint decoding not considering source statistical characteristics.

文摘Faster-than-Nyquist(FTN)signaling can improve the spectrum efficiency(SE)of the transmission system. In this paper,we propose a coded modulation FTN(CM-FTN)transmission scheme with precoder and channel shortening(CS)optimization to improve bit error rate(BER)performance and reduce the complexity of FTN equalizer. In our proposal, the information rate(IR)or spectral efficiency(SE)is employed and verified as a better performance metric for CM-FTN than the minimum Euclidian distance(MED).The precoder of CM-FTN is optimized for maximizing the IR criterion using the bare-bones particle swarm optimization(BB-PSO)algorithm.Further,a three-carrier CM-FTN system model is used to capture the broadening effect of precoder. Also targeting for the IR maximization, the inter-symbol interference(ISI)length for CS is optimized to reduce the receiver complexity without performance loss.Simulation results demonstrate that our method has a 0.6dB precoding gain compared with the nonprecoding scheme and a maximum of 87.5%of the complexity of FTN equalizer is reduced without BER loss.

文摘Atmospheric absorption, scattering, and scintillation are the major causes to deteriorate the transmission quality of terahertz(THz) wireless communications. An error control coding scheme based on low density parity check(LDPC) codes with soft decision decoding algorithm is proposed to improve the bit-error-rate(BER) performance of an on-off keying(OOK) modulated THz signal through atmospheric channel. The THz wave propagation characteristics and channel model in atmosphere is set up. Numerical simulations validate the great performance of LDPC codes against the atmospheric fading and demonstrate the huge potential in future ultra-high speed beyond Gbps THz communications.
