Instant determination of polar motion with tri-static common view lunar laser ranging

A method is presented for determining instant values of Earth’s polar motion(PM)using a set of lunar laser ranging(LLR)measurements acquired simultaneously by tri-static common view(TCV)at three LLR stations in Europe.We developed a model of the LLR TCV measurements,then formulated the linear equation for solving PM.Although there was no actual TCV event in the data,we conducted a two-phase study to test our method using actual LLR normal points(NPs)acquired by the European stations during 2012-2022.In the first phase,we simulated TCV events and PM solutions.The robustness of our method was assessed by introducing Universal Time(UT1)errors and per-station range errors in this phase.In the second phase,we augmented the actual LLR NPs with simulated data to generate realistic TCV events and solutions,using the‘1+2’and‘2+1’strategies,which differed in terms of data composition.Results indicated that a UT1 error of 0.1 ms caused PM errors of<18 mas,while a uniform range error of 50 mm resulted in PM errors of<180 mas.In the augmentation phase,the maximum solution errors were 752 and 899 mas,and 88.5% and 91.2% of the solutions were better than the predictions for the‘1+2’and‘2+1’strategies,respectively.The presented approach relies on precise geodetic data,and therefore,it is not intended to replace the traditional method.However,this study demonstrated that instant determination of PM is feasible and robust,although the accuracy requires further enhancement. 展开更多

To improve the performance of composite pseudo-noise (PN) code clock recovery in a regenerative PN ranging system at a low symbol signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), a novel chip tracking loop (CTL) used for regenerative PN ranging clock recovery is adopted. The CTL is a modified data transition tracking loop (DTTL). The difference between them is that the Q channel output of the CTL is directly multiplied by a clock component, while that of the DTTL is multiplied by the Ⅰ channel transition detector output. Under the condition of a quasi-squareware PN ranging code, the tracking ( mean square timing jitter) performance of the CTL is analyzed. The tracking performances of the CTL and the DTTL, are compared over a wide range of symbol SNRs. The result shows that the CTL and the DTTL have the same performance at a large symbol SNR, while at a low symbol SNR, the former offers a noticeable enhancement. 展开更多

In this study,a straightforward one-step hydrothermal method was successfully utilized to synthesize the solid solution Na_(0.9)Mg_(0.45)Ti_(3.55)O_(8)-Na_(2)Ni_(2)Ti_(6)O_(16)(NNMTO-x),where x denotes the molar percentage of Na_(2)Ni_(2)Ti_(6)O_(16)(NNTO)within Na_(0.9)Mg_(0.45)Ti_(3.55)O_(8)(NMTO),with x values of 10,20,30,40,and 50.Both XPS(X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy)and EDX(Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy)analyses unequivocally validated the formation of the NNMTO-x solid solutions.It was observed that when x is below 40,the NNMTO-x solid solution retains the structural characteristics of the original NMTO.However,beyond this threshold,significant alterations in crystal morphology were noted,accompanied by a noticeable decline in photocatalytic activity.Notably,the absorption edge of NNMTO-x(x<40)exhibited a shift towards the visible-light spectrum,thereby substantially broadening the absorption range.The findings highlight that NNMTO-30 possesses the most pronounced photocatalytic activity for the reduction of CO_(2).Specifically,after a 6 h irradiation period,the production rates of CO and CH_(4)were recorded at 42.38 and 1.47μmol/g,respectively.This investigation provides pivotal insights that are instrumental in the advancement of highly efficient and stable photocatalysts tailored for CO_(2)reduction processes. 展开更多

This study investigates the facies development and sedimentology of the Late Permian Chhidru Formation,a mixed carbonate-siliciclastic unit exposed in the Western Salt Range,Potwar Basin,Pakistan.The formation is subdivided into four lithological units reflecting lateral variability,with thicknesses and lithologies ranging from fossiliferous sandy limestone to interbedded limestone and sandstone.These successions record a depositional shift from a carbonate platform to mixed carbonate-clastic,and ultimately,clastic-dominated environments.Lithostratigraphy suggests deposition on the underlying Wargal Limestone carbonates during a Late Permian sea-level fall on the northwest Indian margin of Gondwana.Similar Permian successions with identical lithological characteristics are documented in the Persian Gulf(Dalan Formation),Arabian Platform(Khuff Formation),and Iran(Nesen and Hambust formations).Petrographic analysis reveals deposition in the distal middle to proximal inner shelf settings of a carbonate-siliciclastic mixed,unrimmed platform.Based on identified foraminiferal assemblages,the Chhidru Formation's age is estimated to range from the late Wuchiapingian to Changhsingian stages of the Lopingian epoch. 展开更多

A soft X-ray energy materials research beamline(BL20U2),a branch of energy materials beamline(E-line),has been constructed in the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF)Phase-Ⅱ project.It is now operational for soft X-ray resonant emission spectroscopy(RXES)and soft X-ray resonant elastic scattering(REXS)investigations.Optical optimization was implemented for high performance,e.g.,photon flux,energy-resolving power,and focus spot size.RXES experiments show that the energy range extends from 150 to 1500 eV.The elastic peak measured near titanium absorption edge(@445 eV)indicates an energy resolution of the RXES spectrometer of 65 meV.The measured photon flux is 3×10^(12)photons/s at 244 eV at the RXES sample position for an SSRF electron energy of 3.5 GeV and a projected ring current as 300 mA.The spot size at the RXES sample position is 23μm in the horizontal direction and 7.9μm in the vertical direction,respectively.Moreover,the angular resolution of elastic REXS scatterometer reaches 0.005°through measurement of X-ray reflection from the single-crystal silicon wafers.A sample of the REXS scatterometer is vibrationally decoupled from its chamber and cooled using copper braids connected from an open cycle liquid helium cryo reservoir,whereas the minimum sample temperature is below 15 K. 展开更多

Background:This paper aimed to systematically review the literature regarding the effects of resistance training(RT)performed at longer-muscle length(LML)versus shorter-muscle length(SML)on proxy measurements for longitudinal hypertrophy.Methods:We included studies that satisfied the following criteria:(1)be a resistance training intervention with a comparison of LML vs SML-RT;(2)assess both fascicle length(FL)and muscle size pre-and post-intervention;(3)involve healthy adults aged≥18 years;(4)be published in an English-language journal,and;(5)have a minimum training intervention duration of 4 weeks.Three databases were searched in February 2024(Google Scholar,PubMed/Medline,Scopus)for relevant articles,alongside'forward'and'backward'citation searching of articles included and additions via authors'personal knowledge.The results of studies were described narratively,compared,and contrasted.Eight studies met the inclusion criteria,totaling a sample size of 120.Results:Our results suggest that both muscle size and fascicle length increases may be greater following LML-RT versus SML-RT,suggesting LML-RT may lead to greater longitudinal hypertrophy than SML-RT.Notably,evidence is largely mixed;no studies to date have attempted to estimate serial sarcomere number changes from LML versus SML-RT,and all but one study used linear extrapolation methods to estimate FL,which has questionable validity.Therefore,the structural adaptations underlying hypertrophy from LML-RT remain undetermined.Conclusion:In conclusion,results suggest that LML-RT may be superior to SML-RT for inducing muscle hypertrophy and,more specifically,longitudinal growth,though evidence is mixed. 展开更多

The space gravitational wave detection aims to detect gravitational waves in the mHz band in order to study supermassive black hole mergers,galaxy evolution and the structure of the early universe.One of its core payloads is a transponder-type interstellar laser interferometer,designed to measure relative displacement changes at the pico-meter level.Among its components,phasemeter is tasked with extracting the phase and frequency of the interference signal.Currently,phase-locked loop(PLL)phasemeters are commonly employed.However,the second harmonic signal generated by the mixer can restrict both the dynamic range and phase measurement accuracy of the phasemeter.This paper analyzes the interstellar laser interferometer and the impact of the second harmonic signal on the phasemeter's performance.To address these challenges,a phasemeter incorporating a second harmonic signal filter is proposed.This new design mitigates second harmonic disturbances within the phasemeter's bandwidth by dynamically adjusting the filter's cutoff frequency to track the input signal frequency,thereby suppressing the second harmonic signal in real time.Theoretical and simulation analyses demonstrate that the proposed phasemeter with a second harmonic filter significantly enhances the dynamic range.Finally,experimental results verify that the phasemeter can achieve the tracking of sudden frequency changes up to4.8 MHz. 展开更多

Bemisia tabaci is a complex of cryptic agro-economically important pest species characterized by diverse clades,substantial genetic diversity along with strong phylogeographic associations.However,a comprehensive phylogenomic analysis across the entire complex has been lacking,we thus conducted phylogenomic analyses and explored biogeographic patterns using 680 single-copy nuclear genes(SCNs)obtained from whole-genome sequencing data of 58 globally sourced B.tabaci specimens.We constructed both concatenation and coalescent trees using 680 SCNs,which produced highly supported bootstrap values and nearly identical topologies for all major clades.When comparing these concatenation trees with those constructed using mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I(mtCOI)and mitochondrial genome,we found conflicting phylogenetic relationships,with the later trees recovering fewer major clades.In a separate comparison between concatenation and coalescent trees,particularly those generated using IQ-TREE,they were found to delineate population relationships more effectively than RaxML.In contrast,coalescent phylogenies were proficient in elucidating geographical dispersal patterns and the reorganization of biological species.Furthermore,we provided a strict consensus tree that clearly defines relationships within most clades,laying a solid foundation for future research on the evolution and taxonomy of B.tabaci.Ancestral range estimates suggested that the ancestral region of the complex is likely situated in equatorial Africa,the Middle East,and Mediterranean regions.Subsequently,the expansion occurred into part of the Palearctic and further into the Nearctic,Neotropical,Indomalayan,and Australasian regions.These findings challenge both previous classifications and origin hypotheses,offering a notably more comprehensive understanding of the global distribution,evolutionary history,diversification,and biogeography of B.tabaci. 展开更多

The growing prevalence of exercise-induced tibial stress fractures demands wearable sensors capable of monitoring dynamic musculoskeletal loads with medical-grade precision.While flexible pressure-sensing insoles show clinical potential,their development has been hindered by the intrinsic trade-off between high sensitivity and full-range linearity(R^(2)>0.99 up to 1 MPa)in conventional designs.Inspired by the tactile sensing mechanism of human skin,where dermal stratification enables wide-range pressure adaptation and ion-channelregulated signaling maintains linear electrical responses,we developed a dual-mechanism flexible iontronic pressure sensor(FIPS).This innovative design synergistically combines two bioinspired components:interdigitated fabric microstructures enabling pressure-proportional contact area expansion(αP1/3)and iontronic film facilitating self-adaptive ion concentration modulation(αP^(2/3)),which together generate a linear capacitance-pressure response(CαP).The FIPS achieves breakthrough performance:242 kPa^(-1)sensitivity with 0.997linearity across 0-1 MPa,yielding a record linear sensing factor(LSF=242,000).The design is validated across various substrates and ionic materials,demonstrating its versatility.Finally,the FIPS-driven design enables a smart insole demonstrating 1.8%error in tibial load assessment during gait analysis,outperforming nonlinear counterparts(6.5%error)in early fracture-risk prediction.The biomimetic design framework establishes a universal approach for developing high-performance linear sensors,establishing generalized principles for medical-grade wearable devices. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Humeral shaft fractures are common and vary by age,with high-energy trauma observed in younger adults and low-impact injuries in older adults.Radial nerve palsy is a frequent complication.Treatment ranges from nonoperative methods to surgical interventions such as intramedullary K-wires,which promote faster rehabilitation and improved elbow mobility.AIM To evaluate the outcomes of managing humeral shaft fractures using closed reduction and internal fixation with flexible intramedullary K-wires.METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study analyzing the medical records of patients with humeral shaft fractures managed with flexible intramedullary K-wires at King Abdulaziz Medical City,using non-random sampling and descriptive analysis for outcome evaluation.RESULTS This study assessed the clinical outcomes of 20 patients treated for humeral shaft fractures with intramedullary K-wires.Patients were predominantly male(n=16,80%),had an average age of 39.2 years,and a mean body mass index of 29.5 kg/m^(2).The fractures most frequently occurred in the middle third of the humerus(n=14,70%),with oblique fractures being the most common type(n=7,35%).All surgeries used general anesthesia and a posterior approach,with no intraoperative complications reported.Postoperatively,all patients achieved clinical and radiological union(n=20,100%),and the majority(n=13,65%)reached an elbow range of motion from 0 to 150 degrees.CONCLUSION These results suggest that intramedullary K-wire fixation may be an effective option for treating humeral shaft fractures,with favorable outcomes in range of motion recovery,fracture union,and a low rate of intraoperative complications. 展开更多

Co-optimization of linear gain and dynamic range for atomic superheterodyne receivers based on homodyne readout

Rydberg-atom-based superheterodyne receivers integrate self-calibration,high sensitivity,a wide operational frequency range,and phase/frequency resolved detection capabilities,demonstrating broad application prospects as nextgeneration microwave receivers.Linear gain and linear dynamic range(LDR)are critical metrics for assessing receiver sensitivity and demodulation fidelity,respectively.We numerically solve the four-level master equation and then employ particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm to co-optimize linear gain and LDR in atomic superheterodyne receivers based on balanced homodyne detection.Further,we systematically account for dominant dephasing mechanisms in the simulation,encompassing spontaneous decay,transit dephasing,collision dephasing,laser linewidth dephasing,and Doppler averaging.Homodyne readout utilizes both the real and imaginary parts of polarizability for sensing.In the case of the photon shot noise limit,its signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)expression resembles that of direct optical-intensity readout.However,the inherent coherent subtraction operation in homodyne detection significantly suppresses common-mode noise,while appropriately increasing the reference beam power enhances the gain in practical experiments.Indeed,this co-optimization problem,characterized by a high-dimensional variable space,two objectives,and non-convexity,is well-suited for solution by PSO.In addition,probe and coupling detuning contribute equivalently to polarizability and compensate for each other owing to Doppler averaging,thereby reducing the optimization variable space by one.By adopting a product form of linear gain and LDR as the fitness function,the PSO achieves rapid convergence.Here,the effectiveness of the PSO results is verified via the total harmonic distortion(THD).The relative error-based LDR calculation method we proposed efficiently measures receiver response linearity with consuming fewer computational resources.This research is expected to offer valuable insights into enhancing the performance of Rydberg-atom-based superheterodyne receivers. 展开更多

Addressing the critical detection range limitation in active electrosensing(AES)for underwater sensing,this study proposes an enhanced AES system via novel array optimization.While AES offers advantages like interference immunity,acoustic stealth detection,and low cost,its short range restricts applicability.A target perturbation model under differential signal acquisition reveals that signal strength increases with local electric field intensity,target size,differential channel spacing,and conductivity contrast,but decreases with target-electrode distance.To extend detection,novel array configurations were explored.Simulations demonstrate that both rectangular and offset arrays significantly outperform the traditional collinear layout.Specifically,an offset array(with 8 m transmitting–receiving spacing)achieved an effective detection range enhancement exceeding 83%under the same distortion threshold while maintaining simplified electrode structure.Experimental validation confirmed a 100%increase in maximum detection distance to 5 m under identical noise thresholds compared to the collinear array.Furthermore,a fully connected neural network-based localization model achieved a mean positioning error of 14.12 cm at 3.15 m in static scenarios.In dynamic scenarios within 1–3 m,mean errors were controlled between 13.19 cm and 27.56 cm.Mechanistic analysis indicates that increasing the array baseline enhances the signal-to-noise ratio by simultaneously suppressing near-field environmental noise and amplifying far-field signal reception.Structural innovations in array design enabled this study to significantly expand the detection range of AES systems without compromising cost efficiency.These advancements directly promote the engineering application of AES technology,offering critical technical support for underwater defense security monitoring,long-range early warning systems,and maritime rights protection. 展开更多

The Haicheng region,Liaoning,China,likely hosts a conjugate fault system comprising the NW-trending Haichenghe fault and NE-trending secondary faults.On February 4,1975,at 19:36 CST,an earthquake of M_(S)7.3 and intensity(MMI)IX hit the city of Haicheng,Liaoning,China.Although deep seismic profiling was previously conducted along the Haichenghe fault,the limited horizontal resolution in the shallow part prevented the recognition of kilometer-scale anomalies.The velocity structure characteristics of the Haichenghe fault and its NE-trending conjugate faults remain unclear.Using the extended range phase shift method,the high-resolution S-wave velocity structures are obtained by deploying a long,dense linear array of 55 short-period seismometers across the fault and NE-trending conjugate faults.The array length was 32 km and inter-station spacing was approximately 600 m,facilitating the collection of approximately 22 days of continuous waveform data.Employing the Extended Range Phase Shift(ERPS)method enabled the extraction of broadband 0.2–5 s Rayleigh wave phase velocity dispersion curves.The broadband dispersion data were used for inversion of the high-resolution S-wave velocity structure to a depth of 8 km from the surface.The velocity structure characteristics and seismicity of the Haichenghe fault and NE-trending conjugate faults were analyzed and compared with nearby fault gas measurements.Results show(1)shallow S-wave velocities show a low-high-low horizontal distribution,corresponding to basin-uplift-basin topography;(2)significant velocity contrasts occur across the Haichenghe fault:its SW segment(0–17 km)exhibits high velocities consistent with Paleoproterozoic crystalline basement(Pt_(1)),while the NE segment(17–32 km)shows low velocities related to Yanshanian intrusions(γ_(5))and Quaternary sediments.NE-trending conjugate faults display sharp velocity gradients marking fracture locations,with all faults being near-vertical to~8 km depth;(3)seismicity at 1–6 km depth mainly clusters in high-velocity zones;at 6–8 km depth,it concentrates beneath the Haichenghe fault in low-velocity areas and along NE-trending faults;(4)the seismic activity characteristics and fault zone width of the Haicheng he fault reflected by velocity imaging results are basically consistent with those obtained by the fault gas measurement method. 展开更多

We explore the potential of conducting an experiment in a low Earth orbit spacecraft and using the Earth as a spin and mass source to constrain beyond-the-standard-model(BSM)long-range spin-and velocity-dependent interactions,which are mediated by the exchange of an ultralight(m_(Z')<10^(-10)eV)or massless intermediate vector boson.The high speed of low-Earth-orbit spacecraft can enhance their sensitivity to velocity-dependent interactions.This periodicity enables efficient signal extraction from background noise,thereby improving the accuracy of the experiment.Combining these advantages,we theoretically demonstrate that the novel spacecraft-Earth model can improve the existing bounds on these exotic interactions by up to three orders of magnitude using the China Space Station(CSS)as a representative low-Earthorbit carrier.If successfully implemented,this model may provide an innovative strategy for detecting ultralight dark matter and yield tighter constraints on certain coupling constants of exotic interactions. 展开更多

Space debris is a major problem for all the nations that are currently active in space.Adopting high-precision measuring techniques will help produce a reliable and accurate catalog for space debris and collision avoidance.Laser ranging is a kind of real-time measuring technology with high precision for space debris observation.The first space-debris laser-ranging experiment in China was performed at the Shanghai Observatory in July 2008 with a ranging precision of about 60-80 cm.The experi-mental results showed that the return signals from the targets with a range of 900 km were quite strong,with a power of 40W(2J at 20 Hz)using a 10ns pulse width laser at 532 nm wavelength.The performance of the preliminary laser ranging system and the observed results in 2008 and 2010 are also introduced. 展开更多
