Development of a Micro-Spectrophotometer and Its Application in Water Quality Testing

Traditional spectrophotometers have a large volume and slow scanning speed,which limits their applicability for rapid on-site detection.Herein,a micro-spectrophotometer(named ATOM)is fabricated,and its performance is verified in water quality testing.An M-type Czerny-Turner light path structure,a broadband light emitting diode(LED)light source,and a linear charge-coupled device(CCD)photodetector were adopted in ATOM.The performance of ATOM was validated through iron content determination by using o-phenanthroline spectrophotometry.The experiment results showed that the linear correlation coefficient of determination R^(2) was 0.9997 for mass concentrations ranging from 0 to 2.0μg/mL.The relative standard deviation was 0.37%,and the relative error compared to a commercial large-scale spectrophotometer was below 1.4%.The dimensions of ATOM are 75 mm×60 mm×25 mm,with hardware costs of approximately 1000 CNY.ATOM features compact size,low cost,rapid measurement,high integration and high precision,making it suitable for portable on-site rapid detection. 展开更多

In the event of the ever-increasing growth of the beauty industry and the burgeoning market for facial masks,high-performance and high-safety mask products have emerged.Among these,light-cured collagen peptide-based hydrogels,which are non-toxic,photocurable natural materials,exhibit significant potential for use in facial masks.We developed a novel collagen peptide-lithium chloride hydrogel-based facial mask.Light-cured collagen peptide hydrogel is a non-toxic,light-activated natural material that holds considerable promise for application in facial masks.Nonetheless,there is a significant lack of effective methodologies for real-time assessment of skin quality currently available in the market.To address this deficiency,we have developed an innovative collagen peptide-lithium chloride hydrogel mask,which is characterized by exceptional transparency(98%within the visible spectrum of 400-800 nm),commendable tensile properties(tensile strength of 428.6±2.1 kPa,with a tensile strength increase of 123.9%),substantial water retention capacity(61%),and favorable antimicrobial efficacy(89%).The incorporation of lithium chloride enhances ionic conduction at the interface between the human body and hydrogel,thereby enabling quantitative evaluation of skin quality through impedance analysis.Our collagen peptide-lithium chloride hydrogel facial mask demonstrated effectiveness in distinguishing various skin types,including D+(severely dry),D(mildly to moderately dry),N(moderate),O(mildly to moderately oily),and O+(severely oily).This study presents significant opportunities for the advancement of hydrogel masks and provides a new application platform for polymer hydrogels. 展开更多

Methods An instrument was presented based on WHOQOL-BREF ... Objectives This study aims to assess the impacts of hypertension on health-related quality of life (HRQOL), as well as cardiovascular functional status (CVFS). Methods An instrument was presented based on WHOQOL-BREF and SP-16 questionnaire and exercise testing. 57 normotensive and 76 hypertensive subjects aged 35-65 year-old participated the health survey using this instrument. Based on the exercise testing results of the two groups, a discriminate function was established and used to investigate cardiovascular risk factors for hypertensive population. Results The results showed that persons with hypertension rated significantly lower scores on physical health (i.e. limitation in performing daily activities and problems with work or mobility) than did normotensives (P < 0.01). The discriminant score obtained from the exercise testing results was capable of reflecting the impacts of hypertension on CVFS. Conclusions The method presented in this paper provides a more powerful tool to estimate the effects of health interventions and medical therapy for hypertensive population than just self-rated HRQOL questionnaire. 展开更多

Due to the increasingly stringent standards, it is important to assess whether the proposed emission reduction will result in ambient concentrations that meet the standards. The Software for Model Attainment Test-Community Edition (SMAT-CE) is developed for demonstrating attainment of air quality standards of O3 and PM2.5. SMAT-CE improves computational efficiency and provides a number of advanced visualization and analytical functionalities on an integrated GIS platform. SMAT-CE incorporates historical measurements of air quality parameters and simulated air pollutant concentrations under a number of emission inventory scenarios to project the level of compliance to air quality standards in a targeted future year. An application case study of the software based on the U.S. National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) shows that SMAT-CE is capable of demonstrating the air quality attainment of annual PM2.5 and 8-hour O3 for a proposed emission control policy. 展开更多

The results show that the software can manage intelligently all aspects of the quality analysis and test of ascorbic acid products, uploading timely the data and results of the analysis and inspection to the network and saving it for users, enterprises and quality management, which set up a network of information sharing platform to ensure the authenticity and reliability of measurement results, improving greatly the speed of data processing, saving valuable time, reducing production costs with good economic efficiency and social benefit. Kayam Churna is proprietary ayurvedic formulation which is blend of seven ingredients which are Senna leaves(Cassia angustifolia),Black Salt,Mulethi(Glycyrrhiza glabra),Nishoth(Operculina turpethum),Ajwain(Trachyspermum ammi),Haritaki(Terminalia chebula)and Svarjikshara(Sodium bicarbonate)with Senna as a major ingredient.Standardization and stability studies play a vital role for each herbal formulation,so the research was carried out to prepare the formulation in the laboratory and to standardize the Churna,by means of its physicochemical properties,phytochemical analysis and microbiology study.The organoleptic and powdered characteristics were studied and compared with monographs.Various physicochemical analysis was carried out like bulk density,tapped density,percent compressibility,loss on drying,ash value and heavy metal determination.Phytochemical analysis was carried out to find the presence of tannins,alkaloids,glycosides,flavonoids and steroids.Microbiological analysis was evaluated using the Total Viable Count method.HPTLC Chromatographic technique was used for fingerprinting.Microscopic analysis of Formulation showed the presence of Vessels,Fibre,Calcium oxalate crystals,etc.Tannins,Alkaloids,flavonoids were found to be present in the formulation.Microbial count and all physicochemical parameters were found to be within the limits as per the WHO guidelines.Further studies can be carried out for finding out its efficacy and potency. 展开更多

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of Korea introduced the ITS system performance evaluation about six and a half years ago. The main purpose is to make sure that accurate and reliable real-time traffic data are collected from the ITS system installed. There are three types of performance evaluations, which are Quality Certification Test, Pre-Delivery Test and Periodic Check in Operation. In this paper the accuracy levels of vehicle detectors commonly used in Korea are analyzed based on the results of quality certification tests conducted during 2008-2012. The test items consist of volume, speed and occupancy. The analysis shows that loop detectors have the best levels of accuracy in all three test items and their levels of accuracy have been steady. Video image detectors do not have so good levels of accuracy as loop detectors, but the levels of accuracy have improved as time passes. Radar detectors do not have good levels of accuracy. However, their levels of accuracy have improved as time passes. The last vehicle detectors, geomagnetism detectors have the worst accuracy in the occupancy item. 展开更多

[ Result] Among uncertainties in determination of reducing sugar content in sugarcane with Lane-Ernon method, the greatest uncertainty was introduced by duplicate determination. According to results of statistical analysis, the expanded uncertainty in determination of reducing sugar content was 0.012%.
