The effect of hydraulic loading rate(HLR) on the efficiency of effluent treatment by CWs was examined for over a month. The CWs were operated under brackish conditions(salinity 7.4–7.6) at 3 different HLRs(0.762, 0.633, and 0.458 m d–1) 3 times, 10 days each. Overall, the CWs exhibited high efficiency in removal of total ammonium nitrogen(by 81.03–92.81%) and nitrite nitrogen(by 99.40%–99.68%). The efficiency of CWs in removal of total ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, total Kjeldahl nitrogen, total phosphorous, and total suspended solids(TSS) increased with the decrease of HLR. The CWs operated at the 3 HLRs in a decreasing trend proves to be effective, providing a useful method for effluent treatment in commercial puffer aquaculture systems.展开更多

In this paper, the pressure variation of four locations in the nozzle was measured by piezoresistive and fiber optical pressure sensors at two current levels of 10 kA and 50 kA. An arc voltage measurement was also taken. The results demonstrate that using either type of sensor with a connecting tube is able to detect the fast pressure variation in circuit breakers, however the possible distortion and delay to the pressure transient caused by the tube need further study.展开更多

The model takes into account the moving parts in the ...A numerical simulation model for 252 kV puffer circuit breaker is constructed, by using a proven commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package, PHOENICS. The model takes into account the moving parts in the circuit breaker, turbulence enhanced momentum and energy transport, radiation transport. The arcing process in a SF6 puffer circuit breaker with two hollow contacts is simulated under different conditions, and the simulation results are verified with experimental results. Through simulation, the pressure, temperature and velocity in the arc quenching chamber can be obtained. The simulation model is also capable of predicting the influence of design parameters variations on breaker performance, and can thus help to reduce the number of short-circuit tests during the design stage.展开更多
Puffer fish poisoning is a common seafood poisoning.The problem is due to tetradotoxin in puffy fish meat.It can be seen in many countries with seacoasts.The problem is resulted from tetradotoxin(TTX)in puffer fish me...Puffer fish poisoning is a common seafood poisoning.The problem is due to tetradotoxin in puffy fish meat.It can be seen in many countries with seacoasts.The problem is resulted from tetradotoxin(TTX)in puffer fish meat.This toxin is an important natural toxin.Here,the authors report summary of case reports from Thailand.The authors use standard search engines(PubMed and Thai Index Medicus)for searching on the reports on puffer fish poisoning from Thailand.According to this work,there are at least 3 reports on 55 cases of puffer fish poisoning.All cases visit to the physician within 30 min.Focusing on severity,stage 1,2,3 and 4 can be seen in 16%,8%,4%and 72%,respectively.In the present report,the summary of the cases presenting to the physician at hospital is shown.Of interest,most patients have severe intoxication and the respirator failure is an important problem to be managed.It is clearly shown in the present report that if good respiratory support is done,the full recovery without problem can be derived.It is no doubt that there is no death case in the present series since the present report focuses on the cases that are successfully delivered to the hospital for management.展开更多
Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial activity and brine shrimp lethality activity of six different species of puffer fishes,includingCyclichthys orbicularis,Diodon holocanthus,Canthigaster solandri,Arthron hispidus...Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial activity and brine shrimp lethality activity of six different species of puffer fishes,includingCyclichthys orbicularis,Diodon holocanthus,Canthigaster solandri,Arthron hispidus,A.inermis andLagocephalua inermis(L.inermis).Methodology:The puffer fishes were collected from Annangkovil Fish Landing Centre(Lattitude 11°30.47'N;Longitude 79°47.02'E),Parangipettai,Southeast Coast of India during summer season because of availability.Fresh tissue samples were collected from the clearly washed specimens,extracted with methanol at 37°C for 3 days and filtered through Whatman No.1 filter paper.The solvents such as methanol and ethanol were concentrated by using rotary evaporator under reduced pressure.The dark brown gummy mass was stored at 4°C for further analysis.Prepared crude samples were analysed with human pathogens to assess the antibacterial activity and this was carried out by using standard disc diffusion method.The brine shrimp lethality was calculated as the percentage of mortality which was firstly calculated by dividing the number of dead larvae by the total number and then multiplied to 100%.Results:The antibacterial activity of crude extract of puffer fishes were exhibited against 10 different human bacterial pathogens.Among the ten human pathogens,Arthron hispidus showed maximum zone of inhibition(8 mm)againstStaphylococcus aureus whileL.inermis showed minimum activity(1 mm)againstProteus mirabilis and no zone of inhibition was observed againstStaphylococcus aureus.Brine shrimp lethality was examined with six puffer fish extracts.Cyclichthys orbicularis showed maximum mortalities as 100%andL.inermis showed minimum mortalities as 70%at a concentration of 500μg/mL.Conclusion:In conclusion,the study showed the preliminary investigation of crude extracts of puffer fishes about the prominent activity against human bacterial pathogens.The extracts had a good cytotoxic potential against brine shrimpArtemina salina.展开更多
