This study is focused on the estimation of water fluxes exchanged between the river Niger (and its tributaries) and the transboundary Iullemeden Aquifer System. In that framework, an innovative approach based on the application of the Bayesian Mixing Model (MixSIAR) analysis on water isotopes (oxygen-18, deuterium and tritium) was performed. Moreover, to assess the relevance of the model outputs, Pearson’s correlation and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) have been done. A complex relationship between surface water and groundwater has been found. Sixty percent (60%) of groundwater samples are made of more than 70% river water and rainwater;while 31.25% of surface water samples are made of about 84% groundwater. To safeguard sustainable water resources for the well-being of the local communities, surface water and groundwater must be managed as a unique component in the Kandi basin.展开更多

The effect of using different code-specified lateral load patterns on the seismic performance of fixed-base buildings has been investigated by researchers during the past two decades. However, no investigation has yet been carried out for the case of soil-structure systems. In the present study, through intensive parametric analyses of 21,600 linear and nonlinear MDOF systems and considering five different shear strength and stiffness distribution patterns, including three code-specified patterns as well as uniform and concentric patterns subjected to a group of earthquakes recorded on alluvium and soft soils, the effect of structural characteristics distribution on the strength demand and ductility reduction factor of MDOF fixed-base and soil-structure systems are parametrically investigated. The results of this study show that depending on the level of inelasticity, soil flexibility and number of degrees-of-freedoms (DOFs), structural characteristics distribution can significantly affect the strength demand and ductility reduction factor of MDOF systems. It is also found that at high levels of inelasticity, the ductility reduction factor of low-rise MDOF soil-structure systems could be significantly less than that of fixed-base structures and the reduction is less pronounced as the number of stories increases.展开更多

In order to calculate the effect of wind forcing on waves and currents, and vice versa, it is necessary to employ a consistent formula- tion of the energy and momentum balance within the airflow, wave field, and water column. It is very advantageous to apply sur- face-following coordinate systems, whereby the steep gradients in mean flow properties near the air-water interface in the cross-interface direction may be resolved over distances which are much smaller than the height of the waves themselves. We may account for the waves explicitly by employing a numerical spectral wave model, and applying a suitable theory of wave–mean flow interaction. If the mean flow is small compared with the wave phase speed, perturbation expansions of the hydrodynamic equations in a Lagrangian or generalized Lagrangian mean framework are useful: for stronger flows, such as for wind blowing over waves, the presence of critical levels where the mean flow velocity is equal to the wave phase speed necessitates the application of more general types of surface-following coordinate system. The interaction of the flow of air and water and associated differences in temperature and the concentration of various substances (such as gas species) gives rise to a complex boundary-layer structure at a wide range of vertical scales, from the sub-millimetre scales of gaseous diffusion, to several tens of metres for the turbulent Ekman layer. The bal- ance of momentum, heat, and mass is also affected significantly by breaking waves, which act to increase the effective area of the surface for mass transfer, and increase turbulent diffusive fluxes via the conversion of wave energy to turbulent kinetic energy.展开更多

This paper follows the previous initial results claimed by simple examples to further mathematically investigate the natural vibrations of generalized Sommerfeld systems. A new parameter representing the speed of radiation wave for generalized 3-D problems with more complicated boundary conditions is introduced into the Sommerfeld condition which allows investigation of the natural vibrations of a Sommerfeld system involving both free surface and compressible waves. The mathematical demonstrations and selected examples confirm and reveal the natural behaviour of generalized Sommerfeld systems defined above. These generalized conclusions can be used in theoretical or engineering analysis of the vibrations of various Sommerfeld systems in engineering.展开更多

文摘The interface mechanical behavior of a monopile is an important component of the overall offshore wind turbine structure design.Understanding the soil-structure interaction, particularly the initial soil-structure stiffness, has a significant impact on the study of natural frequency and dynamic response of the monopile. In this paper,a simplified method for estimating the interface mechanical behavior of monopiles under initial lateral loads is proposed.Depending on the principle of minimum potential energy and virtual work theory, the functions of soil reaction components at the interface of monopiles are derived;MATLAB programming has been used to simplify the functions of the initial stiffness by fitting a large number of examples;then the functions are validated against the field test data and FDM results. This method can modify the modulus of the subgrade reaction in the p-y curve method for the monopile-supported offshore wind turbine system.
文摘Surface waves comprise an important aspect of the interaction between the atmosphere and the ocean, so a dynamically consistent framework for modelling atmosphere-ocean interaction must take account of surface waves, either implicitly or explicitly. The bal- ance of momentum, heat, and mass is also affected significantly by breaking waves, which act to increase the effective area of the surface for mass transfer, and increase turbulent diffusive fluxes via the conversion of wave energy to turbulent kinetic energy.
文摘The coupling effects of depletion interactions in three-sphere systems with different size ratio of large- to small-sphere are studied by Monte Carlosimulations in this paper. The numerical results show that this coupling effect is affected by the size ratio of large- to small-sphere: the larger the size ratio is, the larger the coupling effect will be.
文摘The interaction of shock waves is investigated for the following nonstrictly hyperbolic system: [GRAPHICS] The interaction of shock waves is complicated, with new types of shock waves, and new singula rities in the dependence of interaction on the relative positions of the three states separated by shock waves. Several ideas are introduced to helo organize and clarify the new phenomena.
文摘The intramolecular aromatic-ring stacking interaction of mixed- ligand complex Pd(A)(UTP)^(2-)in the system pd^(2+)-A-UTP^(4-)has been determined by ~1HNMR,where A=1,10-phenanthroline(phen),2,2'-bipyridyl(bpy)and DL- tryptophan(trp^-);UTP^(4-)=uridine 5-triphosphate.The result indicates that it is the partial stacking between the uracil ring of UTP^(4-)and the heterocyclic ring of A that makes H(5),H(6)and H(1')in the UTP^(4-)shift upfield signifi- cantly.Accordingly, the order of aromatic-ring interaction in the mixed- ligand complex has been obtained as follows:Pd(phen)(UTP)^(2-)(?)Pd(bpy)(UTP)^(2-) Pd(trp)(UTP)^(3-).
文摘A fluid-structure interaction system subject to Sommerfeld's condition is defined as a Sommerfeld system which is divided into three categories: Fluid Sommerfeld (FS) System, Solid Sommerfeld (SS) System and Fluid Solid Sommerfeld (FSS) System of which Sommerfeld conditions are imposed on a fluid boundary only, a solid boundary only and both fluid and solid boundaries, respectively. These generalized conclusions can be used in theoretical or engineering analysis of the vibrations of various Sommerfeld systems in engineering.
文摘Aiming to the fact that the distribution modules of the C3I simulation system originally developed based on TCP/IP protocol has to be compatible with the present HLA (High Level of Architecture) rules, three methods for implementing the interaction of HLA and TCP/IP subsystems are presented to make the original TCP/IP modules directly used in the HLA-based C3I system without redevelopment. The three methods are agent method, middleware method and gateway method. Moreover, the implementation of gateway method via VC++ as well as the key technology is discussed.
