The Fok- ker-Planck equation was solved numerically to validify the theoretical solutions. The stable orientation and orientation period of fiber were obtained. The results showed that the fiber orientation distribution is dependent on the relative not absolute magnitude of the matrix rate-of-strain of flow. The effect of fiber aspect ratio on the orientation distribution of fiber is insignificant in most conditions except the simple shear case. It was proved that the results for a planar flow could be generalized to the case of 3-D fiber direction vector.展开更多

First, we take two theoretical approaches, the Lagrangian and the conditional closure formalisms, to study the PDFs of such an externally forced passive tracer. Then, we carry out numerical simulations for an idealized random flow on a sphere and for European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) stratospheric winds to test whether the mean-gradient model can be applied to studying stratospheric tracer mixing in midlatitude surf zones, in which a weak and poleward zonal-mean gradient is maintained by tracer leakage through polar and tropical mixing barriers, and whether the PDFs of tracer fluctuations in midlatitudes are consistent with the theoretical predictions. The numerical simulations show that when diffusive dissipation is balanced by the mean-gradient forcing, the PDF in the random flow and the Southern-Hemisphere PDFs in ECMWF winds show time-invariant exponential tails, consistent with theoretical predictions. In the Northern Hemisphere, the PDFs exhibit non-Gaussian tails. However, the PDF tails are not consistent with theoretical expectations. The long-term behavior of the PDF tails of the forced tracer is compared to that of a decaying tracer. It is found that the PDF tails of the decaying tracer are time-dependent, and evolve toward flatter than exponential.展开更多

Twenty years of wind data from 1989 to 2008 were collected from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) database and the blended wind data of the Quick Scatterometer (QSCAT) satellite data set and re-analysis data from the United States National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). Several typhoons were taken into account and merged with the background wind fields from the ECMWF or QSCAT/NCEP database. The 20-year data of significant wave height were calculated with the unstructured-grid version of the third-generation wind wave model Simulating WAves Nearshore (SWAN) under extreme wind process conditions. The Gumbel distribution was used for univariate and marginal distributions. The distribution parameters were estimated with the method of L-moments. Based on the marginal distributions, the joint probability distributions, the associated return periods, and the conditional probability distributions were obtained. The GH copula function was found to be optimal according to the ordinary least squares (OLS) test. The results show that wind waves are the prevailing type of wave in the Bohai Bay.展开更多

The control er is designed whose parameters are optimal y obtained through the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm. The parameters of the control er are viewed as the space position of a particle in particle swarm optimization algorithm and updated continual y until the control er makes the PDF of the state variable as close as possible to the expected PDF. The proposed PDF shape control technique is compared with the equivalent linearization technique through simulation experiments. The results show the superiority and the effectiveness of the proposed method. The control er is excellent in making the state PDF fol ow the expected PDF and has the very smal error between the state PDF and the expected PDF, solving the control problem of the PDF shape in stochastic systems effectively.展开更多

In this paper, we propose a control technique for PDF shape of the state variable in nonlinear stochastic systems. Firstly, we derive and prove the form of the controller by investigating the Fokker-PlanckKolmogorov(FPK) equation arising from the stochastic system. Secondly, an approach for getting approximate solution of the FPK equation is provided. A special function including some parameters is taken as the approximate stationary solution of the FPK equation. We use nonlinear least square method to solve the parameters in the function, and capture the approximate solution of the FPK equation. Substituting the approximate solution into the form of the controller, we can acquire the PDF shape controller. Lastly, some example simulations are conducted to verify the algorithm.展开更多

PDF contains important information about the spatial distribution of the phase points in the reconstructed attractor. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that the PDF method is put forward for the analysis of the reconstructed attractor structure. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the cardiac systems of healthy old men are about 6-6.5 dimensional complex dynamical systems. It is found that PDF is not symmetrically distributed when time delay is small, while PDF satisfies Gaussian distribution when time delay is big enough. A cluster effect mechanism is presented to explain this phenomenon. By studying the shape of PDFs, that the roles played by time delay are more important than embedding dimension in the reconstruction is clearly indicated. Results have demonstrated that the PDF method represents a promising numerical approach for the observation of the reconstructed attractor structure and may provide more information and new diagnostic potential of the analyzed cardiac system.展开更多

文摘The log-normal distribution function(LNDF)and Weibull cumulative density function(WCDF)represent two prevalent approaches for characterizing sediment grain size distributions. This study analyzes annual average suspended load grain size data(standardized to equivalent settling diameters)from seven hydrological stations in the lower Yellow River(LYR)spanning 1962–2020,employing various distribution functions for grain size fitting. Results demonstrate that the Weibull probability density function(WPDF)offers significant advantages over both LNDF and WCDF in terms of fitting accuracy, parameter stability, simplicity, and practical applicability for characterizing suspended load grain size distributions in the LYR.Based on these findings, universal formulas were developed for the suspended load grain size distribution across the seven stations and the entire lower reaches, yielding determination coefficients(R2)exceeding 0.9.These formulas can be applied to estimate suspended load grain size in data-scarce cross-sections.The existence of such universal formulas suggests that interannual fluctuations in suspended load grain size in the LYR are constrained within a limited range, suggesting that sediment grain size may represent an inherent property of the river channel. This limited variability may be attributed to the fact that sediments in the LYR are primarily derived from a relatively fixed source region—the Loess Plateau. The observed stability over an extended period also offers valuable insights into the fundamental properties of river systems and their long-term behavior.

文摘The probability distribution function (PDF) of a passive tracer, forced by a "mean gradient", is studied. It is found that the PDF tails of the decaying tracer are time-dependent, and evolve toward flatter than exponential.

The results show that wind waves are the prevailing type of wave in the Bohai Bay.

文摘A novel strategy of probability density function (PDF) shape control is proposed in stochastic systems. The control er is excellent in making the state PDF fol ow the expected PDF and has the very smal error between the state PDF and the expected PDF, solving the control problem of the PDF shape in stochastic systems effectively.

文摘The shape control of probability density function(PDF) of the system state is an important topic in stochastic systems. Lastly, some example simulations are conducted to verify the algorithm.
文摘Probability density function (PDF) method is proposed for analysing the structure of the reconstructed attractor in computing the correlation dimensions of RR intervals of ten normal old men. Results have demonstrated that the PDF method represents a promising numerical approach for the observation of the reconstructed attractor structure and may provide more information and new diagnostic potential of the analyzed cardiac system.

文摘The process of entrainment-mixing between cumulus clouds and the ambient air is important for the development of cumulus clouds.Accurately obtaining the entrainment rate(λ)is particularly important for its parameterization within the overall cumulus parameterization scheme. In this study,an improved bulk-plume method is proposed by solving the equations of two conserved variables simultaneously to calculateλof cumulus clouds in a large-eddy simulation. The results demonstrate that the improved bulk-plume method is more reliable than the traditional bulk-plume method, becauseλ,as calculated from the improved method, falls within the range ofλvalues obtained from the traditional method using different conserved variables. The probability density functions ofλfor all data, different times, and different heights can be well-fitted by a log-normal distribution, which supports the assumed stochastic entrainment process in previous studies.Further analysis demonstrate that the relationship betweenλand the vertical velocity is better than other thermodynamic/dynamical properties;thus, the vertical velocity is recommended as the primary influencing factor for the parameterization ofλin the future. The results of this study enhance the theoretical understanding ofλand its influencing factors and shed new light on the development ofλparameterization.

文摘As to the sonic fatigue problem of an aero-engine combustor liner structure under the random acoustic loadings,an effective method for predicting the fatigue life of a structure under random loadings was studied.Firstly, the probability distribution of Von Mises stress of thin-walled structure under random loadings was studied, analysis suggested that probability density function of Von Mises stress process accord approximately with two-parameter Weibull distribution. The formula for calculating Weibull parameters were given.Based on the Miner linear theory, the method for predicting the random sonic fatigue life based on the stress probability density was developed, and the model for fatigue life prediction was constructed. As an example,an aero-engine combustor liner structure was considered. The power spectrum density(PSD) of the vibrational stress response was calculated by using the coupled FEM/BEM(finite element method/boundary element method) model, the fatigue life was estimated by using the constructed model. And considering the influence of the wide frequency band, the calculated results were modified.Comparetive analysis shows that the estimated results of sonic fatigue of the combustor liner structure by using Weibull distribution of Von Mises stress are more conservative than using Dirlik distribution to some extend. The results show that the methods presented in this paper are practical for the random fatigue life analysis of the aeronautical thin-walled structures.
文摘The famous de Moivre’s Laplace limit theorem proved the probability density function of Gaussian distribution from binomial probability mass function under specified conditions. De Moivre’s Laplace approach is cumbersome as it relies heavily on many lemmas and theorems. This paper invented an alternative and less rigorous method of deriving Gaussian distribution from basic random experiment conditional on some assumptions.
